This spacious and open layout salon is a gem in the heart of Belltown. Next to some of my favorite restaurants and businesses in town, it is easy to find, and generally easy to find parking around. Street parking is available via the pay by phone parking app or by calling it in via the 1-888 number and needs to be paid for until 8pm on M-Sat, free on Sundays and holidays. I was drawn to this salon by Stu, the talented barber who works out of the space on the right portion of the salon. I found him through Yelp and booked my appointment after sending a message through the app. On the afternoon of my appointment I walked over and was greeted by the nice receptionist up front, who asked if I needed any refreshments. I still see Sun (Brenda) of course (: Although the salon do order a different brand of coloring now so it won't turn out the same if you were coming here before when it was the owners before "The Collage On First" Just FYI! Brenda does a great job with hair cuts, especially with layering! Originally why I've decided to check her out awhile ago. I did lose her for a moment then I had to stalk her so I can get a hair cut. LOL! Everyone has that ONE person that only touches their hair, brows, etc. When you find that person, definitely a keeper. Haha! I found this salon one day when I walked by and was hesitant at first since it was never really full. However I decided to go in for a color and blow-dry since they had such easy appointment booking online and the prices were affordable. I set an appointment with Nicki. When I walked in I was immediately greeted and checked-in and was given a glass of water and taken to the waiting area. My appointment was for 2:30 and the stylist was with me on time. Nicki was very nice and immediately asked me what my vision was for my hair. She took the time to talk to me about options and even gave me pros and cons for each one. After discussion we decided and she got to styling. She worked really well and I appreciated that she explained what she was doing. After waiting for my color to develop she took me to wash my hair and WOW one of the best massages while getting shampooed. When it came to styling she asked me what I wanted and then styled my hair with messy waves using a flat iron which I loved. Overall I am so happy with my hair and the service. I've been coming to see Irene for years and I'm always blown away by her skills, professionalism, and honesty. In addition to her customer service, I always feel amazing when I leave her chair. One of the things I love most about Irene is her honesty. She's seen my hair through ups and downs and always keeps me aware of what she sees good or bad. She's not about just pushing services, she's serious about good hair. My hair is coarse but also fine so it will break if I even look at it wrong. She always keeps my hair healthy and fly. TLDR; walked in to tone a platinum blonde, walked out with an uneven dark mahogany brown permanent dye job. Very little option to fix it other than chopping it off. I had been growing my hair from a platinum blonde pixie to a platinum blonde long bob for 2 1/2 years under the care of another colorist in another state. Hair was healthy. Work moved me to Seattle 6 months ago, and I came to Collage after hearing good things about them. The first few touch ups went great. Then, about 2 months ago, my colorist approached me about stopping the bleach and tone, because that was too much stress on the hair strand, etc. I wasn't ready to move away from the blonde, so we discussed giving me a temporary shadow root for me to try it out and see how I liked it. The first time the shadow root looked blotchy and had a weird tone to it. I chalked it off to a bad day, and came back to fix it that weekend at the colorist's request. He fixed the tone and faded it into my blonde hair beautifully. The dark was a little on the long side, but I figured we could work towards blending it in better as it went, since it was (supposed to be) non-permanent. Time comes to redo my roots, so I ask him to keep the darker roots, but bring the platinum blonde further up towards the scalp to look more even, to which he proceeds to tell that it can't be done since he would have to re-bleach my hair to get the dye out, and that would destroy my hair. This despite the agreement that I wasn't ready to move away from blonde, and it was all supposed to be temporary and easy to move back into a bleach and tone. I should have left then and there, but I gave him a chance and I tell him that I love the look and just to tone it. He agrees and goes on to tell me that he was going to warm it up a bit and maybe go a shade darker. Once he rinsed my hair, I had dark mahogany brown hair. The furthest from platinum cool blonde as you can get. I was running late for a night out with my husband, so I fought back the tears and walked out and figured it was just the shock of going so dark so fast. Three weeks have passed, I've visited two other colorists who tell me they can't fix my hair without major damage, and I'm stuck with permanent, uneven, red brown hair with some greenish streaks, unless I go even darker. I went from loving my hair to crying every time I catch a glimpse of my hair in the mirror, and wanting to shave it off. read more

I wanted to get haircut from Stu the Barber who has pretty good reviews in Yelp, but when I reached the location, it said The Collage. A bit confused, I asked for walk-in appointment which was available after 15 mins. I'll not name the person who did my haircut, but he completely ruined it. I had showed a freaking photo of my previous haircut to avoid any confusion, but he cut my hair too short; I asked why, and he said he thought I was going to buy some of the products there to manage my short hair that's why. I was furious and left the shop without tipping him. Later I got to know that Stu works independently inside The Collage. Damn it. read more

I see Crystal for haircuts and styles and she's nothing short of amazing. Reason #1 why I love her... SHE LISTENS!! I have super thin hair and have had so many other hairstylists heavily later my hair but it then just looks thin and layered. I told this to Crystal and she said trimming it regularly to remove all the heavy layers will make it look healthier and longer. After we did this I got compliments from my clients and friends about how healthy and long my hair had grown. I was in dire need of something new and different, and have gone through many hairstylist in the seattle area, yet, have not been able to achieve the look I've been wanting. Plus, I'm Asian and have dark hair so I just figured, it must be me. Until I was referred by a relative to see Sun, so I gave it a go. When I called they were able to schedule me in a timely manner and the staff was nothing but friendly and nice, already I felt relieved and good. At my appointment, I explained and showed Sun the look I wanted to achieve and her approach to get the look seemed effortless. I was comfortable, and of course, like everyone's first visit, I was a bit nervous...won't lie, but when we were done, she styled it and I was amazed on how good of a job she did. I spent over a year looking for a stylist before I found Sun Mee Lee and I followed her from other salons to The Collage. I am incredibly picky with choosing a hairdresser but Sun was worth the search. I trust her wholly to decide my look for me because she never fails to improve my look. I'm naturally dark haired and she's dyed my hair blonde (and later a balayage) so well that it looked natural. She's given me complicated cuts, bright colors, side shaves. My first experience at Collage on 1st was amazing! Location is extremely convenient and the service was phenomenal. Karly is my stylist and she is always professional and attentive to detail with my needs - I have followed her from Kent, to Sumner and now in Belltown. With each session, she has been a guru at maintaining my blonde and keeping my hair looking fresh and healthy in between visits. She is always so helpful with tips on how to keep my blonde lively and is so fun to spend time with during my appointments!
