Oh boy. I come all the way from Redmond just to see Levi. He is the best hair stylist I have ever met. Levi takes care of my hair for over 10 years and I have never been disappointed once. Finally, finally, after more than 6 months not getting my hair cut or colored due to the viral infestation of America, I was treated to a complete make over by the artisans at Sublime. My two surgeons were the master colorist Erica Samp, and the owner/cutter-stylist David Daley. My hair was a "hot mess," stringy, with ugly gray curlicues, my head looked like a kettle interlobate moraine. Hats covered this bird's nest for 5 months. For a while, I even slept with a cap on - no lie. I didn't want to frighten my wife in the morning. In two hours, Erica and David turned me into a new and younger man. People who saw me afterwards thought I had plastic surgery. Not only did I look younger, but I also looked like I lost 15 pounds. I have no idea how they did this. I have been administered to by hair stylists in Paris, NYC, Milwaukee, Louisville, and even Salt Lake City, no relation to New York City; same cadence different reality. This was my best color and cut in decades. David and Erica can't make me good looking, that ideal left the station in 2008. However, I look one hundred times better. I've been going to Erica and David since before they moved to open Sublime, so a little over 4 years. I've been traumatized by hairstylists in the past, so once I found them I will never go anywhere else. Erica does color and is fantastic, she listens to what you want and is very personable, she also takes your lifestyle into account, for me she knows I'm only going to have my hair colored 2, maybe 3 times a year and my balayage always grows out beautifully, even through quarantine. The photo attached is during quarantine and I think the last time I got my hair colored was October. David cuts hair and he does an amazing job, which for someone with really fine hair, but a lot of hair can really appreciate. He always wet and dry cuts it to make sure everything lays perfectly. She was able to get me back in within 4 days, and discussed a realistic pathway to get me closer to my original color goal. She listened, asked questions, and provide options throughout the process. In the end we went with highlights to even out the random color patches. David worked his magic on my bangs and removed all the choppiness from before. Written by my wife: This hip and trendy salon in Belltown did not disappoint. After walking by the salon daily for over a year, I decided to give it a try. The perfect excuse for a mini-makeover...as if I needed an excuse. I had "virgin" hair and was really wanting something more "summery" for my upcoming vacation. I scheduled about a month out with no problem, therefor I'm not sure how easy it would be to get in on shorter notice. Anne, my stylist, really listened to what I was wanting and offered expert suggestions for what would look best with my skin tone and natural hair color/texture. Together we decided on the best trim, framing, and balayage colors for me. The whole process took about 3.5hrs, but it was so worth it. I have been looking for a new hair salon and found Sublime after a lot of Yelp searching. Their website is a great resource because they have transparent pricing per stylist and you can easily make an appointment on their website. I made an appointment with Stacey for a haircut ($60 women's cut) and was promptly greeted when I arrived for my appointment. I described to her what I was looking for and showed her a reference photo. She easily grasped the concept and finished my haircut within 1 hour. It was a great experience as Stacey made conversation and we didn't have much awkward silence. She also gave me some styling tips and styled my hair before I left the salon. Kelly is absolutely amazing! I booked a partial foil, since that's all that was available before my birthday. However, during the appointment I asked if she could foil my whole head to blend out the grown out portion. She agreed as long as I was ok with not having my hair fully blow dried. She told me to let her know if I wanted the color adjusted when it was full dried. Sure enough, when I went home I wanted to go a bit darker (I have difficult to lift Asian hair). Kelly squeezed me in the following morning, and did not charge anything extra. The blending work came out beautifully, and really appreciate the amazing customer service! read more

Since moving to Seattle I haven't gone to a hair salon. I used to go to a salon in Bellevue but they upped their prices and it's now further away. When I found sublime it was a perfect fit - walking distance from my place in Belltown and reasonably priced as well. I saw all of the rave reviews for Stacey and booked an appointment. It was super easy to book at get an opening right away! Stacey was so personable and talked through exactly what I wanted. I usually come into salons with a picture in mind but for this session I didn't have time to find one so this is the result of Stacey asking me questions and finding the perfect balance! I love the layout of the salon and location by Tilikum. The whole service for the partial balayage and cut took 2 hours which was perfect. I'm looking forward to visiting Stacey again! Saw Kelly for a simple root foil to break the base & add consistency. We do it every 2-3 months. In between apts. I maintain base color at home to cover gray. I'd booked a partial (vs. usual full foil) to keep costs down. At consult, was up-sold to an "extended foil" because partial foil would only cover so much...I explained budgetary constraints due to being on medical leave/disability but wanted to do it right so agreed to extended. Then she mentions costly baby lights because regular foil only covers so much. I've been getting my hair done by her for years & this was new...we've done baby lights in the past and they weren't itemized as extra charges...I agree to baby light two strips of hair where I part it, for $195. +add on Olaplex #2 (She's said she always puts olaplex #1 in bleach & it's more effective if we add #2). I stressed not to overlap bleach, my hair was finally recovering from prior damage. Once she realized we'd spend more time than planned she interrupted me mid-sentence during consult to "go mix color". Came back, started foiling & mentions a few unsolicited treatments without transparency re: time involved, effects on hair (damaging), or pricing (extra costs not agreed to at consult). I trusted she'd take into account my hair texture, condition, etc & these were simply to help. Unbeknownst to me there'd be surprise charges at checkout & extra damage, & time sitting at the bowl on my part. Mid-way thru She accepts a last minute apt. (double booked) & became distracted running between us. Foils removed too soon, undeveloped in the back. I was left at shampoo bowl for 15 mins with "Malibu shampoo" marketed a "clarifying shampoo" (later found out it was a color remover! Noooo remover?!) while a full balayage was applied to other client, my scalp was burning by the time she rinsed, then a "root smudge" (very dark toner) was put on roots & Olaplex #2 on ends & rinsed in under 5 mins. Disappointing as #2 is supposed to be applied directly after bleach with olaplex #1, from roots to ends, for 10 mins minimum. The one add-on I agreed to splurge for was overshadowed by color remover (her idea) & shares space with a brown toned (her idea)!! Next the ends were toned with something that made no difference whatsoever. I didn't get to discuss results with Kelly-she assigned Another employee to complete the job who ripped thru my hair with a brush & super hot blowout. I saw the dryness & color disparities & was annoyed. Kelly resurfaced to present the bill. After swiping card my jaw dropped seeing the total + add-ons that hadn't been itemized before (nor communicated the charges at consult or thereafter, I'd of declined if given an opportunity). She added charges for extra babylights, extra toner, Malibu "shampoo", Olaplex #1 AND #2 (I agreed to add #2 b/c I was told in every apt including this one, #1 is added to bleach as standard practice). I brought it up & was told I was wrong, I was "given a discount" & she walked back to tend to other client, Shutting it down. When I got home I saw the results & damage! Bleach overlap turned spots of orange in my hair, root smudge toner dropped into blonde leaving brown spots. Color remover lifted color to leaving white spots. The tips were white & untoned. It was Like a bad spray paint Job!! There were new dead ends, dryness, breakage. I emailed seeking resolution & my points were ignored. She focused on all the extra time she spent (which she took initiative to add) & how She overlapped bleach to cover brassy roots I did at home, (they were kinda brassy which didn't bother me, I was going to cover them when grays showed up,...)... & shut down the conversation. . I took time to provide valuable feedback to be disregarded as a tool who's satisfaction or service didn't matter. There was no apology, accountability, no offer to fix (I would've declined because there was nothing more to do), or Refund, no thank you for your time. I see she states 100% guarantee of their work & that isn't true. I've been a long-standing, good paying client of years, referring others also. This took place around Christmas time. It was clear the goal wasn't to be sure I left satisfied and the health of my hair in tact instead it was about unscrupulous ways to nickel and dime me to make sure I left there playing no less than 320+ dollars!!!! I suggest finding a salon that cares about their customers. (PS-The owner's defensive account in response to this review is inaccurate. I did thank her for her time which was more consideration than b I received. I didn't rave to everybody that I loved nor was anything "on the house"). read more

You get used to messed up cuts and lots of hats. But I had heard such good things about David. He worked an absolute miracle on my hair and trust me it needed it. It took so long to find a stylist since moving to Seattle last year. I thought I had finally found one at another salon until she left to teach. Needless to say, I felt like I had been dumped and was completely heartbroken. Finding a new stylist is almost as tough as finding a life partner. No joke. Like a life partner, you want to find a stylist that you communicate well with, can trust them with your heart (in this case it would be my treasured locks), and that they (your stylist) can feel they can be open and honest with you should you want to go for a blunt bang when your face shape wasn't made for that look. All in all, a phenomenal stylist is not an easy find. I was somewhat reluctant to trust again after my recent break-up but knew I had to. I owed it to myself, and to my hair. I searched the interwebs long and hard, filtered through various reviews and comments by other Yelpers, and stumbled upon Sublime Salon. After chatting with Sublime through the Yelp portal I made an appointment to see Stacey for highlights and a bang trim. Highlights can be tricky and after showing Stacey several photo references of highlights I wanted, she looked at my hair and mixed up some color. What stuck out to me is that she used the word "buttery" when referring to my highlights. It was as if she had reached into my brain and grabbed the very adjective I was thinking of when thinking of how I wanted my highlights to look. After all the mixing, washing, and drying took place, I could see the highlights come through. But wait......... she wasn't done. After styling my hair into loose beach waves I really saw this vision I had had in my mind for months come through. To say that I was happy was an understatement. I had a horrible bad service with Erica in June 4th that needed color correction at another salon a few days later. I had just had highlights done a few weeks earlier and just needed a root touch up at the crown area only. The color Erica used darkened by hair dramatically to a drab brown. I notice problem more after I left when I went home. It was so bad I contacted another salon and got in tuesday June 7th. I had to have highlights redone then. I left phone message at salon and requested a refund and haven't gotten a response yet. Salon is also had to book an appt so only once worked with Erica before. I have worked with other stylists who I never had problem with. She also had a terrible attitude so overall it was the worst service I have ever had. I would not go back again and do not recommend the salon. I had to cancel 2 events that weekend and wore a scarf on my head until color was corrected. read more

She listened to what I was thinking for my hair, gave a few suggestions and it turned out great. Her price was excellent as well. Stacey Bernethy cut my hair since Erica specializes in color only. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted for a hair cut but Erica and Stacey talked, told me what cuts were trending and we decided on a style. She was very precise and thorough with the haircut, even trimmed my undercut. All of the stylists there worked together as a great team, very impressed.
