From first phone call to final box delivery, CSS was absolutely wonderful to deal with. Dan (the one who answered the phone every time I called) was courteous and helpful, and several times he went above and beyond for my daughter and me. (We had a couple extra circumstances that he accommodated with grace and generosity.) It was a comfort knowing my freshman daughter, who has never had to do some of this stuff by herself before, didn't have to figure EVERYTHING out on her own. And it was especially great for her because she didn't have a car at school. CSS brought the boxes and supplies to her, so all she had to do was pack up all her stuff and label it, and then CSS came back and loaded it all up and shipped it to us! It was WELL WORTH the price, and it was significantly less expensive than me flying or driving out there from California to help. I would highly recommend CSS to anyone. read more

I found these guys early in my daughter's first semester at CSU. She got off to a rough start and wanted to come home right away. I convinced her to stay first a month, and then the first semester. Her time at CSU was overall an awful experience due to a variety of factors. So we had to come move her out of her dorm just prior to the start of spring semester. I contacted CSS and everything has been great! Great communication, able to accommodate our schedule (and potential change to it), showed up on time and did the work quickly. Same day shipping home. They took the stress out of a difficult experience and I'm really glad we used them. I see some people complaining about the charge up front. for reference I'm a senior who has been using CSS since freshman year move out; but I have consistently had mixed experience with them, whether it was missing and/or broken items the servicer provided are very subpar. this being said my most recent move had really pushed me to believe how unprofessional this company is, not only did they forget two rather obvious furniture items (Carpet and office Chair), but they forgot an additional box with a rather expensive and sentimental piece of clothing I have. Unfortunately the company lost it, but I was patient and waited two weeks for them find it, unsurprisingly they didn't find; but even worse they refused to provide insurance or refund to cover for losing such an important/expensive item. read more

Used this company this year for my things and they charged an additional $45 "fee" on top of the rest of the charge. They claimed it was the deposit fee but we paid that up front. On top of that they wouldn't apply our deposit towards the total amount owed (which is what a deposit is supposed to be for). Overall they tried to charge us for $90 more than what was owed. My daughter was moving back to Colorado College after summer break. We decided to inquire into this company because it was mentioned by the college. First , you cannot begin an inquiry without placing money down. Once initial contact was made, they never replied with answers to my questions. I followed up with another call and the gentleman said he was sick so he would call back when he felt better. I never received a call. I should have expected problems but the gentleman said he does all the schools so I felt assured that things would go smoothly, besides, they already Took my money. They never actually provided any appointment time. After a few calls my daughter discovered that they were bringing her boxes in on Saturday instead of Thursday (because of a key miscommunication) They never told my daughter when they were coming so I insisted she call. Their estimated time was 1:00 pm. At 3:00 pm my daughter called and was told they were coming in the evening as she was the last delivery. She never got a courtesy call to say they would be late. Parents, if you think it couldn't get worse, it gets worse. They assured me that they would bring the boxes to her room when we initiated our inquiry. They actually just left the boxes which were mostly broken on the street and never waited for my daughter to arrive! How irresponsible is that? They didn't even bring it to her dorm doorl. Let alone her room! It is eight pm and she must leave her boxes unattended while she carts her goods alone to her dorm door!!!!! I am very angry. Shame on them for leaving a young woman stranded like that! I tried calling them immediately after my daughter's frantic call but no one answered! Wow, what a nightmare it has been dealing with CSS. Sure, their service seems convenient up front. They handle everything and pick your stuff up for storage. How bad could it be? Nope, it's awful. I've never seen such ineptitude in a business. I stored my stuff with them for a year when covid started. To my overwhelming joy when I returned to campus, I found out they lost a bunch of my stuff! Yipee! And when I tried to make claims about these lost items, they stalled and stalled with such horrible customer service. Moved my son into off campus housing at Colorado State today. Used College Student Storage, owned by Michael Shelhamer. First of all, they lost his packaging slip and delivered at the tail end of the delivery range. Second, the warehouse forgot to load three of my son's boxes and said they would need to do a second delivery later closer to 6pm. We receive a call at 4:30 pm and they told us they would be at the house in 5 min. We weren't home so they were going to leave with his roommate...no big deal. The owner then called my son (he was on speaker and I could hear) asking what building he was in again. My son told him the west building not east. Michael then proceeded to yell into the phone and said "holy sh&t, fu@k, this is bullsh$t. I can't find this fuc$king house. I have a truck on fire and can't deal with this now." He then hung up on us. Micheal Shelhamer is one of the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with. He needs to know how to treat customers and better control his emotions. Save your time and money, and use a different storage service. If I could go back and do this again, I would rent a Uhaul and store my stuff in a pod. Do not trust this so called "company". Not only did they lose a couch of ours, not sure how that's possible, but they also lost my mattress and misplaced my roommates bike. The good news is, they eventually found my roommates bike and our couch, but the couch was delivered broken and they wouldn't have even gone back to look for it if it wasn't for my girlfriend buttering up the mover guys. read more

My daughter had to pack everything from her apartment into TWO sections- some for a month later when her sorority opened and some for continuous storage while she went abroad. We spent 24/7 packing everything/labeling etc ( with supplies we got from CSS) only to be told that we went overboard. Within 45 minutes-they had her whole apartment loaded onto their truck ( and this was despite being lower level with steep stairs, sharp corners, and without elevators. We were SO impressed! The owner answered all questions/addressed our concerns ahead of time. Drop off a month later was easily executed and then packing up for abroad was SO MUCh easier for her with their help. My daughter came home from Boulder due to what is going on in the world. I called CSS storage last week to find out how to go about getting her moved out unexpectedly and quickly. They told me exactly what to do and informed me by email with updates. My daughter not only used CSS for storage but they shipped some of her stuff back home for us as well. They even had someone go up to her dorm room to help her out. CSS did an unbelievable job especially under these circumstances. I spoke to the owner, Michael and Tayler in the office on a regular basis to make sure it would all get done correctly. Since I am an out-of-state student the pickup, storage, and drop off services offered by CSS enticed me. Storing my things with them turned out to be a big mistake. Many of my items were damaged and broken when returned to me. I also had a period of 8 days where some of the items I stored with them were missing. They were returned to me damaged the day before classes started with a 15 minute heads up. Relating the message of the missing, broken, and damaged items resulted in an unprofessional response. They tried to flip the blame on me. The near $900 I paid for my belongings to be stored was a waste. I could have rented a storage unit and moved things myself for a fraction of the cost. This was probably the best moving experience I've had, so simple and straight forward. The guys dropped off boxes, picked them up days later along with my suitcases and furniture, stored everything for twice as long as I expected and set all my furniture up in my new place when I finally was ready to move in (I changed my move in date 3 times!) I really think the team that moved me in went above and beyond, re-assembling my bed frame, which was such a relief since I would not have been able to do it myself. Also on the move out end, when I was trying to leave for my internship I learned it was going to cost me a fortune to check my bag on my economy airline. They brought in an extra box, had me write my internship address on it, we stuffed my intended checked luggage in this huge box, and they shipped it for me for half the price to check it. The best part was since I stayed with a friend one night on my way to the internship location the box arrived the same day I did with no hassle whatsoever! Although the actual storage part went OK, what came after was a nightmare! Having put 5 boxes and a snowboard in the safe hands of CSS last June, my son decided in August not to return to DU. I asked to have everything shipped back to me in California on my UPS account. The told me they did not use 'outside' UPS accounts even though I offered to send them the prepaid labels and I even offered to pay a reasonable packing fee. So long story short, they charged me $518 to ship my son's stuff and had they used my UPS account, it would have cost me $252. If you figure on a generous $100 to repack and ship everything, I was still overcharged $166. This is what I call a complete and total rip-off. I talked to the owner (Mike) and he gave me the usual BS about how much it costs to run a business (which I am well aware of because I own/run a business). The big difference here is that I don't use (poorly paid) students to help run my business. I would NOT use this business again if you paid me! I love Yelp and if you read all of the other crappy reviews about CSS, you will see that I am one of many pissed-off customers! read more

Let's just say this is the only moving storage facility in Boulder... DONT. You are better off hiding your belonging, photos and family heirlooms around town, under stairwells and in your neighbors bushes. The owner is a jerk. Of course , Its your fault he is a jerk , it's also your fault that you happened to notice the student discount noted on the all the advertising. Please turn a blinds eye to that, or be ready to drop to your knees and beg. Moving Day : The nice young college kid who comes to load up all your stuff will be great, cute and so helpful; don't believe a word of it, HE KNOWS NOTHING. He won't give you a receipt or quote and off your stuff will go. 2 days later you'll get a bill that reads nothing like the quote you were given. You'll SCREAM in disbelief; you were charged for items you don't even own! You'll let out another scream followed by a swear word because there will be no discount any where on the invoice. Just got my items back today and a few items are in worse condition that when it was moved out. We had some misunderstandings re what was to be moved from house to storage but rather than calling to figure out and straighten out, he just charged my credit card and referred to it as a "f*** up fee"! I used this service this summer to store and move my items. When they brought my boxes, they had me sign a waiver saying I had received all of my items. I realized as I was unpacking that they had lost my queen size bed comforter that I had just bought for about $200. They also had not let informed me that they would store or move dry food. I had left all of my food with them and they threw it all away without any warning. They also had not brought me my longboard. After calling and emailing them many times, they had brought it weeks later and left it outside my door where anyone could have stolen it. Since I had trusted them and signed the waiver before opening my boxes, they were legally off the hook for all the items they had lost. My coffee table was broken and they had told me that it was broken before they moved it - very untrue. read more

Over four years of college with move-outs, move-ins, and a final shipping across the country, CSS has been awesome. They're flexible and willing to do things other movers won't. Deadlines to move in and move out are super tight in Boulder. CSS has made it possible for us to get things out when they need to be out, and in when they need to be in, with no stress. They will even pick up and then arrange all the details of cross-country delivery. Their staff has always been friendly and prompt. They're more expensive than doing it ourselves would be, but it's completely worth it. I can't say enough good things about CSS. read more

This place deserves more than 5 stars. They go above and beyond to make moving convenient and affordable for college students, especially those out of state. When I moved out of the dorms they had plenty of locations nearby to drop off your boxes, which they dropped off earlier. They will come to your dorm with you and bring the boxes to the truck for you, taking good care of skis and fragile things. When I moved into my sorority in the fall, all of my things were safely inside when I got there. I'm about to use them again in August for a couple weeks between leases, with a big discount just for being a returning customer, they have some awesome deals. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. These people are awful. After using them last year for my daughters move in, and being extremely late, my husband decided to give them a second chance this year, because the owner had told him "he would do everything to make it right this time." Well, it was even worse this year. After multiple phone calls with he manager, Danny, we were told the delivery would be between 3:30-5, possibly earlier because her delivery date was earlier than a lot of other move ins. As we were driving in and I couldn't anticipate traffic, I requested to be on the later end of that schedule if possible. I was also told to call that morning to get a more accurate one hour window. Of course, I was still quoted the same time frame. We arrived at my daughters apartment at 330 and by 430, still no notice of delivery, so I called. Danny told me it would be closer to 6:00. I told him we couldn't wait and reminded him of the multiple times he had told me the time frame. I also talked about how the owner had promised to make it right this year. He was belligerent and hung up on me. These are the most unprofessional people running this business. They change their story to fit their scenarios. The poor kids who do the deliveries..it's not their fault...but I would definitely stay away. I also believe they lost some of my daughters items and perhaps even went through the boxes and resealed them, as she is missing items that were packaged. STAY AWAY from CSS! read more

DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS AND DON'T LET YOUR KIDS USE IT. Very upsetting. My daughter used this company and it was a disaster. After taking time off of work, they were late to pick up her stuff, late to deliver, and only delivered some of her items. They broke her dresser. They returned at 7:30 pm to deliver the rest but a box was still missing. This after having to take several hours off of work and breaking her furniture. She has pleaded with them to find her box but gets blown off. They were misleading about their fees, posting the wrong amounts on the Internet. She paid a lot of money out of her own pocket. They also bullied her into thinking they owe her nothing for the dresser, claiming that their contract gets them off the hook. And now they claim she agreed to terms that were not clearly spelled out in any contract, thus saying they'll only give her a hundred dollars for a large box filled with costly winter clothing and personal items. The owner admitted to my daughter that his movers don't know what they are doing and are making mistakes. At best they were negligent and at worst, they were fraudulent. In short, this company misleads about their pricing and deliberately hides unfavorable clauses which limit their liability (or so the owner claims). CSS is a life saver! Michael and Dan and their crew really saved our bacon. We were originally gonna go with this other company, but got ripped off, thank goodness we found CSS! Our daughter was promised all this stuff by the the other company that never happened, but the guys at CSS stepped in and stepped up big time. They Delivered boxes and tape, helped her pack, picked up her stuff and were so helpful and friendly, if everyone were like these guys the world would be a better place. My daughter get this, (gasp) actually thanked us for hiring CSS, said she couldn't have done it without them. She was in such a panic before they showed up, I thought the world was gonna end. We were gonna have to fly out there, rent a car and hotel, storage unit, move all this crap, and I would have had to listen to endless hours of my husbands complaining the whole way their and back. CSS saved us THOUSANDS of dollars, plus countless hours time and hassle. We gladly paid every penny and our daughter gave a big tip to the packing and moving crew, we can't say enough about how awesome these guys are. Dan was great at answering my and my daughters calls, and even answered my husbands edgy questions with grace and humor. After talking with the owner Michael and finding out he is one of the 1st guys in the whole country to offer this unique and amazing service, and that he's been running this company for 20 years, I wasn't that surprised. I'm actually surprised anyone had a bad experience, but you know how it is, some people are never happy, they look a gift horse in the mouth and keep complaining. Not us, we have used CSS multiple times now, for both our daughter and our son, and every time we've had a great experience, at least as good as can be expected, cause let's face it, moving sucks. This was the WORST moving experience and I highly advise anyone looking for storage/moving in the Boulder or Fort Collins area to STAY AWAY! I used CSS in August of 2015 to pick up my items from one apartment, store them for two weeks, and drop them off at a different apartment close by. The pick up staff was very kind and was able to move all my items (including heavy couch, bed, dresser, and several boxes) efficiently and easily. Good start so far. Then, something came up that conflicted with my expected drop off time that I had to leave town for, so I called CSS with several days notice and requested to reschedule my drop off time for the following day. I was told that would be no problem, however that message clearly never went beyond that phone call because sure enough, all my belongings were dropped off on the original day- the day that I told them I wasn't going to be there. They left all my items on my porch. As you can imagine, when I came home to my new apartment to find my snowboard and my bed and couch and boxes full of irreplaceable books, pictures, and family heirlooms left out on the porch, I was HEATED. CSS had charged over $700 for this 2 week service and they didn't even finish the job. First thing I did was call the company and ask to speak to the manager/owner, Michael, who was callous and rude and did not see an issue with leaving everything I owned outside, at the risk of being stolen or damaged. He refused to take ownership over the problem and did not even apologize! Finally, he reluctantly sent over a second team of movers to finish their service, and they couldn't even get my couch up the stairs. When they tried the first time, they created 4 huge holes in the walls on my stairwell of my brand new apartment! Then, I had to call my neighbor to come offer a hand because the movers literally had the couch stuck in the stairwell and physically couldn't move it. With the help of my neighbor, they finally moved all my stuff inside and instructed me to give Michael a call as he would send someone from his repair team over to fix the holes ASAP. Lo and behold, five months and countless unreturned emails, phone calls, no one has come to fix it, apologize about it, or even recognize it as an issue. I even got my dad to call and send numerous emails because I thought Michael may be trying to take advantage of me because I'm a young, female college student. He managed to show my father the same disrespect by not returning a single email or phone call. I understand that the movers are simply college students themselves trying to make an extra buck before the school year starts, and I don't see them as the issue despite them creating the holes in the wall. It is evident the problem here is Michael and his lack of knowledge in business management, and I would hate for him to continue taking advantage of and capitalizing off trusting college students. read more

This company, while convenient for College summer storage, is highly misleading. Once initially signing up with them, they seem like the best services ever. They provide emails with helpful information on pick up of boxes from them, dates when they will pick up your belonging from the school, etc. After all of that is finished though comes the nightmares. We were billed over $800 for our daughter's belongings and she only had them stored while she waited for her apartment to be available not even one month later. On top of that, we were charged an additional $70 for a delivery fee to her apartment. There were supposed to be 3 people at the delivery, but there was only one so she had to move in a majority of her boxes. Yep, I paid over $800 for my daughter to do most of the work. All we got out of it was sheer convenience that my daughter didn't have to hunt down a place for her belongings for a few weeks. My son will also be attending CSU, but I can assure you I will NEVER use this company again. Total rip off. Not sure how you've been in business for so long when you charge such outrageous prices. read more
