This review is written for a peer of mine. According to California Vehicle Code 22658 and 22513 (under the Fee Caps Based on Law Enforcement or CHP rates), the following are true: * A tow company cannot charge more for towing or storage from private property than the amount it would charge for a tow at the request of a law enforcement agency in that jurisdiction (for example, under a contract with the local police or sheriff). * If the towing company has a rate approved by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) for that area, your charges can't exceed that rate either. * This applies to both towing and storage fees. After having their car towed, a peer of mine was subsequently quoted $650 by SLO College Towing. This exceeds the mandated rates given by law enforcement, all of which are quoted on their (SLO PD) website. My peer was intimidated into paying the money immediately upon arrival by a very unkind/unhelpful employee and was told that they were offered the lowest rate option (a lie). The gross overcharge is not in accordance with the municipal codes of San Luis Obispo. This company needs to do better. read more

75 mph + on the 101 from Arroyo Grande North at 10:30-11pm on a Saturday Night. Tailgating, making unsafe lane changes. Caught back up to him again when he hit traffic after the grade - less than a car space between him and the vehicle in front of him! Driver should lose his license - you are the clean up crew to messes and this night you could have easily been the cause of the mess instead. Shame on ya for being such an idiot!! My minivan got a flat tire on 101 uphill section just north of SLO, stranded on a narrow shoulder with cars and big rigs flying by. With 5 people including kids and elderly in the van, this was a really scary situation. Bryce came to the rescue quickly and was super friendly and super helpful. Since our van has no spare, he called in another truck to get all of us and the van out of the dangerous spot to a tire shop just in time. Luckily we safely made it home that night. Guess if have AAA you get the tow company they send for you. I was in town. Had a 3/4 ton pickup to tow about a block. Flat tire and tire store was a block away, I was worried too heavy to drive on flat. He called and said busy so I said OK. He said about an hour to 1 1/4 hours so I waited for 1 1/2 hours. Nothing. I called again and he said they are close. Another 15 min and I called. He said he had another tow and would be there soon. I kept standing out by the road in the heat. I am 80 yrs old. Someone came from a local lumberyard to give me a bottle of water. I kept waiting. Almost 3 hours wait. Many more calls and many more lies. Finally the driver called and asked where I was and I told him local business. He said they gave him the wrong address. He came. He was a great guy and got it hooked up quickly. My car battery wouldn't start, so AAA referred me Bob Holzer. Unfortunately, Bob Holzer was useless, but I was able to get switched to College Towing. The College Towing dispatcher was helpful and communicative, letting me know how soon they could help me out. She also took the time to ask what issues my car was having so that she could pass the info along to the service rep. Once the rep got there, we found out the battery didn't have as many issues as originally expected and he was able to jump start my car and get me back on the road pretty quickly. read more

I never had a towing experience where the driver beat me to the car. Usually I'm waiting at least an hour. The driver here got to the car first and didn't even complain about waiting 5 minutes. Good luck if you get stuck with these guys as your tow truck company. They were assigned via AAA and left me hanging for 2 hours before I finally figured out they just weren't going to show up (likely because I was slightly outside of SLO on the way to Los Osos). Not only that, they tried to say they were short staffed (maybe don't take the call then?) and didn't apologize when I called them out on not showing up. Luckily I got ahold of Chuck's and they came to get my car later that night after I got a ride with a friend. Lesson learned. read more

A family member of mine requested a tow for my car. Note before going further we are both AAA premier members. He used his card as he has not used it at all this year and it renews in 3 months and mine just renewed. Had a transmission line fail on my car fluid leaking causing car to not be drive able. AAA was contacted and advised College Tow would be dispatched, AAA was advised there was a driver and passenger, we were given a time approx 1 hour 30 minutes which to tow a car 100 plus miles Im ok with. We were told the truck was in Avila Beach maybe 10 miles from us in Grover Beach. An hour later get a message unable to provide service no reason given. Called AAA back again and asked what the heck is going on as we have been waiting on hour and just now given notice. Was advised we would get a call back with an update. WE did receive a call from a person who claimed to be the owner do not recall his name but it was something like DICK,he called and accused my family member of harassing the dispatchers. its apparent this guy a cup of coffee or maybe a new job as Im listening to him basicly call us liars. What business owner does this? Then he goes on and states he WILL NOT take both of us only one person. He then said they are delayed due to equipment breakdowns and be delayed. HMMM shouldnt this have been advised when we were first given the update. It gets even better this sorry excuse of a business person didnt even have enough courage to say Id rather not provide service to us as I later received a call from another tow provider. They advised they were contacted as College Tow now declined the tow and sent it back with out even letting us know. This tow driver was in Simi Valley 2 hours away but was willing to go above and beyond to assist us. College Tow screwed us around advising a 1130 toy then changed it then canceled it and was not even adult enough to advise us. The vehicle arrived at my home in Bakersfield at about 8:30 pm driver was nice took good care of my car. Since the town was delayed several hours we just picked up a car to drive so we could get home, since the new dependable tow company gave us a time frame they advised if we wanted to leave they would pick up and deliver and we did not need to be there other than the final destination. looking at older reviews this company seems to have a habit of screwing people over all I can say is I wish them bad luck and hope AAA revokes them from being an approved facility Ive been a AAA member for 46 years and also a Premier member this is the worst service Id ever received and the owner guy DICK he needs to find a new line of work read more

I realize that "heroes" show up in different forms and I will just say that Scotty was my "Knight in shining armor" yesterday. I've been with AAA for almost 50 years and was left stranded by another company in SLO after waiting for over 2 hours in the morning for them to bring and install a new replacement battery. Tyler finally showed up, without the battery, very discourteous, rude, unkind, unprofessional, disrespectful responding, "Just because you called for a new battery doesn't mean that I'm bringing one." My battery died again in the middle of the Costco / Home Depot intersection, placing me in harm's way. I called AAA again with four lanes of traffic around me, requesting a "tow" to somewhere "safe." Scotty shows up searching throughout the Costco parking lot for me ... thank you for not giving up on finding me. Although he had limited resources as he was called for a "tow," he hears my story and responds, "We need to make this right for you; what can we do?" Hearing that the fabulous automotive team at Costco sent me out with a new battery in my trunk (thank you, Aaron), Scotty gets out the one tool he has and 5 minutes later, I am safely on my way. I missed every appointment yesterday, but was never more grateful to safely pull into my garage at home over 6+ hours after the first call to AAA was made. Kuddos to you, Scotty, and to your manager, John, who was so receptive to my call to sing your praises! Thank you for going "above and beyond" the call of duty and taking so much pride in what you do. Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. He quickly diagnosed that he could get the LC started with a jump so I could drive to Morin Bros. rather than be towed (although he was prepared to tow if the jump-start didn't work). My daughter broke down on her way to Santa Barbara last night . Our family has premium Triple A coverage . When the call was put in a tow truck was promised within 30 minutes. Haley from College Towing called my daughter and said " I see you have basic coverage so you will have to pay as it is not covered over 7 miles. My daughter told her that she has premium coverage for a 200 mile tow. Haley said she would call her back. My daughter waited 45 min, Haley did not call back. My daughter called College Towing back. During the second call Haley said she forgot to call my daughter back and they did not have a truck available. My daughter told Haley " So now because I have better coverage and won't be paying any part you no longer have a truck? " of course this is the reason. Needless to say my daughter was stranded all night. I feel like if this company advertises that they are a Triple A Tow company they should at least do what they advertise! They are very dishonest! I had my car towed through AAA premiere member service and when we spoke to AAA they said that the towing service should be covered with no extra charges since the mileage is below the 200 miles limit. When the driver Michael, delivered the vehicle, he stated that it went over 200 miles and demanded that we pay him almost $100 for the excess mileage. He was very adamant, threatened my brother and said that if we do not pay him, he will take our vehicle back to San Luis Obispo. We will get this issue escalated with AAA so that they can be wary with the towing services they are partnered up with. We are writing this review to let people know not to deal with this towing company and hoping that you will not get the same horrible experience we received. They will find all the opportunity to rip you off. read more

CAUTION: These guys are scammers they will purposely drive a route that will take you in excess of your AAA allowable mileage so they can charge you and then threaten to take your car back if you dont pay. We had the premium AAA membership that allows for 200 miles. We routed our tow and it should have been well below the 200 mile threshold. When the guy arrived with our vehicle he stated it took 211 miles and that we owed $99. Be aware these guys will take advantage of you during your already stressful situation of having to get your car towed. read more

College Towing was able to make it on a busy Sunday within 40 minutes and get my SUV towed to my local shop. The employee (Zack? Nate?) was considerate, friendly, and professional.
