Dishonest, deceptive, unscrupulous. We broke down just south of SLO, and the CHP called it in. We needed to get 4.6 miles up the road to a Chevy dealer. $375/hour for medium duty, including the trailer - not disputing that. The driver started at 3:05pm. We get to the dealer, and he chit chats with the service advisor for five minutes. When he finally gets around to filling out the invoice, which is just about 4:00pm, he suddenly looked up and said "I really gotta hit the head!" And then he ran back into the dealership! When he finally came back, he wrote 4:15pm as the finish time, even though I showed him my phone which said 4:13pm, and protested that he was in the bathroom for the last ten minutes! He just mumbled to himself, "I didn't charge you for that..." but he certainly did - another $187.50, to be exact. Seriously - I can't make that up. He also claimed that he actually saved me money because they charge "port to port" (not on the invoice, not disclosed until credit card swiped). This claim is totally bogus, vague, unverifiable and again deceptive. What if he was only one minute away, but just sat there for twenty minutes before driving over? What if he had to drive thirty minutes "from port" but then I declined service? Would the customer still be charged? Does this mean he could retro charge my credit card after swiping it for whatever he does after he unhitched and left? Furthermore, if he did decide to charge for driving "back to port," and he received another call for service, he could, in theory, charge the original customer for return to port while simultaneously charging the second customer for driving from port. Bottom line - time starts when customer agrees to the rates and says "go," not the arbitrary times which the driver decides. An honest and fair business would not tack on an extra 30 minutes, especially when the invoice clearly indicates 70 minutes total (and the job was only an hour). For some reason, both the CHP and the dealer wanted us to use this outfit. I recommend looking elsewhere, or keeping a stopwatch on the driver. read more

Well what nice people. I was at my friend's house and a big oak tree had fallen. In order to get the tree trimmed out and not damage the house a 20-ton lift had been rented to trim the tree, actually to cut the tree down in small pieces and not damage the house. Well that all worked well until the lift hit a water pipe which made from mud which got the lift stuck. Stuck in the mud we were. Well alkane John Boy and they examine the best way to get to the device which wasn't easy make sure they weren't going to hit anything else or drop in Mudd themselves, they position the truck, and gently pulled the lift out into the clear. I was stranded on the road in my RV. I called for a tow truck. No one had a tow truck big enough to help me. Then I called John Boys. Do yourself a favor and call John Boys first. First the tow truck driver changed my battery and terminal to save me the money's for the tow after that didn't work he had a mechanic check it out. When all was said and done it had to be towed but I have no problem with the price. I would give them 10 stars. read more

Back in April of 2015 we were wine tasting with friends in the area when our tire went out on us. It was on a Saturday evening and no automotive place in town was open nor would they have in stock the tire we needed for our car. I called these folks, as I was near their shop and saw their number. I called them to see if they could suggest who I may go to or contact to get my tire replaced.meanwhile my husband managed to carefully drive the car to a Walmart at the next exit because the guy there claimed he has the tire, Wrong! Meanwhile I called JohnBoys Towing. The man at Johnboys towing very kindly did an amazingly good deed that is unheard of these days. He sent someone out to see my car in hopes that with the tools they have they can save or fix my wheel and tire. He said there would be no charge. True to his word there was no charge. Unheard of these days. Unfortunately, the tire couldn't be repaired. This towing company is genuinely generous, caring and honest. Johnboy's Towing is a crooked business that deliberately takes advantage of its customers for money. My partner's car was towed here after an accident and believed it wasn't going to run again. They choose to never inform us that we needed to sign the car over to them otherwise thousands of dollars would rack up in charges. Complete ripoff! My son broke down and needed to be towed 2.7 miles to home. We called our insurance company-Ameriprise- who's contracted Johnboy's for towing services. Ameriprise covers up to $75 and we were told our out-of-pocket payable to Johnboy's is another $135! That's $210 for 2.7 miles! That is grossly overpriced - absolute insurance ripoff at OUR expense! read more

I would never use this towing service again. Gordon is awful at customer service. I locked my keys in my car, including my purse, went to get my wallet to pay realized my debit card was missing. Gordon was very rude and not understanding. It was about five when he got to me and my car, he told me to go to their lot the next day to pay. When I arrive to their lot it says do not enter. So I called them and then paid over phone. Drove from Nipomo to San Luis Obispo to pay only need to pay over the phone. read more

I don't know that anyone ever wants to spend a few hours with a tow truck driver. Nothing personal! It's just that it generally means something is broken and that it will probably be pretty expensive to fix. A family member made a not so-wise decision and ended up breaking down in his old RV (nicknamed "the Beast") on a narrow dirt road. On the side of a mountain. In the dark. When I arrived, highway patrol was on scene and three guys from Johnboy's towing were already in the dirt working on the Beast's engine, determining the best way to get it moving. Turns out John (the owner) was one of the drivers present. He was very patient when I explained some history as to how we ended up having this impromptu party on the side of the mountain for several hours that night. I wouldn't say that any of us were thrilled to be there (again, the "something is broken and gonna be expensive" thing on my end; and probably "what the hell was this guy thinking and how many hours is this going to take?" on their end) but the three drivers were amazingly professional about the whole thing. They were very careful about everyone's safety (after all, we were on the side of a mountain! in the dark!) and even invited me to sit in the cab of one of the trucks while the Beast was maneuvering downhill. I'm confident that they were more than fair about the final bill. The whole night could have turned out very differently... and if I'm ever in the position to spend a few hours with a couple of tow truck drivers again, I hope I'm fortunate enough to spend it with these guys. read more

We had a challenging problem with our Mercedes Sprinter motorhome that JohnBoy's Towing was able to completely solve. Our keys had been stolen so we ordered new keys and needed to move the vehicle to get it back to the dealer to configure. However the keys wouldn't work in the ignition so the steering wheel was locked and we needed to do a 90 degree turn. They came out and took a look the same day and felt confident they could do the job using 2 trucks. 12 hours later they were able to make it happen and even got us settled in at the dealership.
