Total scammers!!!! I will be filing a complaint with the BBB against this company for what I believe to be excessive and unreasonable towing fees. My vehicle was towed approximately 2.3 miles. The vehicle was in the company's possession for less than one hour before I retrieved it. I was charged $805 to recover my vehicle. While I acknowledge that I mistakenly parked in a short-term parking space, the fee assessed is grossly disproportionate to the service provided. A short-distance tow and less than one hour of storage does not justify an $805 charge. The amount appears punitive rather than reflective of actual towing and administrative costs.That kind of fee feels completely outrageous and predatory. read more

Our first time out at the Pismo dunes went south as we were unexperienced with sand, we(family of 2 adults, 2 kids) got stuck digging in up to the axel near the water as we didn't know the tides time we were desperate to get out. We called around 10:45pm, the tow truck took about 30 min to 45 min to show up which was a reasonable wait time, the tow truck driver Jacob and his son were knowledgeable, had a great attitude despite the time and also gave us a few recommendations on places to visit during our trip, he also followed up to make sure we got around well in the dunes. They charge $300 to get out to the beach then $300 per additional hour but there is no price for the knowledge and experience you are paying for, this is an amazing tow company. read more

Terrible experience. Family and I visited from OC, CA to pismo for our family reunion. 1,200 for the entire tow! We understand we shouldn't have left our car since we didn't have a pass for overnight parking but 1,200?! That is ridiculous. Additionally, we had another car with a pass parked next to the car that was towed and they advised our family member to move it so the water wouldn't get to it. But no our other car was just towed rather than having moved it or something. I wouldn't have minded the tow for a much lower and reasonable price but they did us dirty by charging us that much. One of the police officers said our tow was estimated to be 600-800. But the tow place says 1,200. Come on now. SCAMMERS FORSURE!!!!! I'd give no stars if I was able to. read more

Super fast service. We got stuck in the dunes and they were here in less than 30 min. The driver didn't get us completely free because our trailer was hooked up. This company is freaking ridiculous! Our car broke down and we asked the CHP to dispatch a company to tow us. This crud company showed up and told us it was going to cost 300 bucks to have it towed less than 10 miles! Or if we signed it over to them they would only charge is 150! Oh and to top it all off they LIED to us saying that CHP sets the prices and because CHP called them out there we had to get it off the road. Oh and they believe that they had the justice to charge us a 100 cancellation fee and we didn't sign anything nor agree! After we called CHP and got them nervous the tow man called his "boss" and his boss said that he could tow it now for 150. We said thanks but no thanks. Imagine that, on a sunny day, your car stuck on the beach and looking for a tow service, and boom, there's one right in front of you, and they told you they can do it for $50 to tow your car onto the hard part of the beach, sounds like a good deal right? Then their POS machine wasn't correctly print out the receipt, and you choose to trust them, hey what a nice guy! Then guess what, when you come home, you find out the cost wasn't $50, it was $150, and now you don't even have a receipt to prove that. Never ever call this company for the service again, I'd rather stuck on the beach then let the ocean eat my car instead. read more

It really pains me to write a critical review...I always wanna give folks every benefit of the doubt, and, I'm sure Kautz employees have helped a lot of people out of a jam when they really needed it. I called the owner and waited 3 days for a call back...the owner hasn't called...so here's the review: And this is directed to the OWNER/MANAGEMENT, not to the guys working the trucks... I was charged $300 for a 2 mile tow, $75 for 90 minutes of storage (the rate is $75/day, but of course there's no break for using just 90 minutes), a $150 "gate fee" to open the gate on a Saturday afternoon (even though folks seemed to be already there...but even if they weren't...$150??), and on top of all that, 5% to use my debit card when the actual fee is maybe 2%. (I guess Kautz would "lose" too much money on their $525 for 1 hour's work to simply eat the 2% like most/all other retailers do. Yeesh.) Yes, this was a tow because of a parking violation, and yes, that's my fault...guilty. But...Kautz...c'mon... Charging people that kind of money just because you CAN? Just because the law (maybe) says it's OK? If the law said you could charge $1000, would you do it? $2000? More? Look...it's OK to charge for services rendered...of course it is...it's even OK to charge a lot for those services (if you do a damn good job). But $556 for 1 hour's work and a 2 mile tow? That's highway robbery. It's simply WRONG. It's extortion. It's vulture-like. Taking advantage of people when they have no other recourse is truly sickening. I'm finding it very difficult to truly express the disgust to the level to which some people will go to extort those who require so help. Allow me to explain. On Sunday my friend and I were returning from a camping trip up north and seeing as he had never been to Pismo I decided to give him a bit of a treat by going out on the sand and onto the dunes. I had taken my jeep out onto the dun_es many times before without incident. However this time I found mydelf stuck. At first we tried everything we could think of to get out. Eventually I contacted state park rangers for help. About 4 officers showed up, 3 on ATVs and one in a big truck. Now I had everything I needed to get out, except another vehicle to latch onto just enough to pull my car out. IMAGINEZ my suprise when the female ranger informed me they weren't allowed to help. That I was to call a row truck, but only one company was allowed to come out. When I called them they informed me that it would be $300 for them to just show up, another $300/hr. You got to be kidding me, $600 to hook a strap to my truck and pull me out, they wanted $600 for less than 5 minutes work. THAT'S FUCKING CRAZY. Even if I had the money, which I didnt by the way, there was no way I would pay those greedy barstards $600. Eventually I flagged down someone on an ARV, explained my situation and offered him $100 to help me out. True to his word with in 30 minutes this gentleman and his son returned with their pick up. And as estimated we were both back on the beach within 10 minutes. I tried to honor my word by giving them $100 I promised but they refused to accept any money. To Mike and his son Micheal I just want to thank you once again hope you have a great thanksgiving and blessed holiday season. To the tow truck company and female park ranger I hope karma rewards you just for your greed and lack of integrity. read more

My electric Nissen Leaf would not come on at full power to drive and I was stuck at Pismo Preserve. I called my road side assistance company and they transfered me to Kautz Towing. He was there in less than 30 minutes. Unfortunately, my electric car wouldn't go out of park. The driver, Mickey, recommended he use a lifting tow with replacement front wheels. He made sure my insurance would cover the extra time and new tow truck. He was there again really quickly. He backed my car into my driveway so I could plug it up again. Due to the heavy traffic yesterday on the 101, we decided to check Google Maps for 'alternate routes.' This led us off Hwy 1 into farm land with un-paved roads. There were at least 6 cars behind us with the same mindset. However, with the recent rains, these roads had turned to mud. There was no place to turn around and you couldn't stop for fear of sinking, so we had to see it through. All was well until we had to choose between the lesser of two levels of mud... Needless to say we - and a car behind us - got bogged down. They called AAA and we called Allstate Roadside Assistance and neither one of them were able to assist us for fear of them getting stuck. After a couple of HOURS of no success with our insurance companies, we called Kautz. They knew right where we were, and had a 4 Wheel drive truck that, they use on the sand dunes, to us in about 30 minutes. The driver, Mickey, was exceptional!! He was kind, pleasant, professional and a lifesaver - even giving us information so we could make a claim with our insurance company. I was never so happy to see someone! DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE EVEN IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. My friends and I were stuck on the beach because our car had sunk in the sand and they wanted to charge us a base fare of $220! Not only is that a ridiculous price for a simple tug, I was still on the phone with dispatch when a friendly driver rolled up and asked us to help. After telling the man on the phone that I no longer needed the service I asked if I could get the base charge back because it had been 15 seconds since I had said I agreed to the charges. Since he had already charged my card and had no will to help me whatsoever he continued to explain why I was stuck paying $220 for absolutely nothing. The next day, I called back to speak to a manager to dispute the charges and hoped to clear up the charges, but I didn't get a hold of them until I called back for the 5th time. I would like to reiterate: Do not use this service unless you want to pay exceptionally high prices, poor customer service and to have a headache trying to talk to someone of importance in the company. This was Fathers Day weekend 2018... Def not what I wanted to deal with on Fathers Day... But... We pulled our truck and trailer onto the dunes camping area in Oceano, and just as we got to where we wanted to stage for the weekend my truck over heated.... Dammit! But we were there so we made the best of it for our weekend, waiting to worry about the trucks issue til the next day. After determining the problem with the truck the next morning we arranged for Kautz to tow us out the following morning. They called and showed up as planned, and were very professional and gently pulled our truck and trailer out to Pier Ave. Yes it was pricey but I had no problem with that, as they took the time to pull us out without breaking more stuff, the sand can be very destructive, and so can a tow vehicle. If youre gonna play in the sand you have to be prepared for the consequences, and sometimes they are expensive. It cost us $600 to get truck n trailer off the dunes, $250 to rent a truck to get the trailer home, $200 to rent a car to get the wife & kids home, and almost $4000 to get truck repaired, but thats what happens when you live life. $5050 total (approximately) read more

We scheduled to be towed in and out of the beach because we didn't want to risk getting the 43' toy hauler stuck pulling with 2 wheel drive.
