Camp Lotus is a wonderful family run campground with lots of water activities and picnic areas. Situated beside the winding American Canyon river, this magical spot is located in Placerville. There are quiet little beaches that are kid friendly, where they can wade out safely. We saw lots of fish, kayaks, campers and day trippers. There was lots of laughter and playfulness all around. The surroundings are beautiful and wildlife is abundant. The little store that is there upon check in is stocked with the basics, and if you stay in a cabin, you get free delicious coffee every morning. Luann is there to greet you at check in and at breakfast, she makes hot muffins. My favorite is cornmeal blueberry. read more

+s: Great natural beauty in the diverse plant life. Clean bathrooms for a campground. No dog policy. -s: Neighboring property had a chipper running non-stop. Road noise is loud. An overall rudeness from staff that I assume was due to my service dog though she is exceptionally trained and no more of a nuisance than a cane. Being respectful of their policy, I had asked before booking. Knowing what I know now, I would not have wasted $67. I had planned on staying 2 nights if it was pleasant. Excellent place to camp! Camp is right on river. Lots of trees and grass. Quieter place on river too - so good for children. Like most campgrounds on the River, the camp spots can be close together but they have done a nice job creating privacy with landscape. (Rocks, trees) Restrooms and showers were clean. Little store and cafe has everything you could need if you forget something. I definitely will be bringing the family back here. Great place. read more

We happened upon the place by chance and I'm glad we did. We had 8 people in our party. There are big and little camp sites of all different sizes. The staff is friendly and helpful. They rent the use of a barbecue which makes life easier. It's right on the American River which is also nice. Their store opens at 8 and closes at 6. We had a grand time! read more

Pros -Friendly staff -1 minute walking distance to the Sacramento River Cons -There was no soap in the cabin shower - just shampoo -There was nowhere to hang or put one's things in the cabin bathroom - no hooks, shelves, benches, etc. -They sold only one smartphone waterproof protector (so you could take your smartphone river rafting) in the campground store, and it simply didn't work -The water temperature in the separate shower facility wasn't warm (but was in the cabin shower) -Not a secluded feeling near the cabin - you could see cars, roads. I was hoping that you'd just see nature. -Couldn't make a fire in fire pit. This may be a regulation that Camp Lotus has to follow, not an internal policy read more

We stayed at Camp Lotus for one night in advance of our rafting trip down the South Fork of the American River. We enjoyed our experience here, though it's certainly not a place to get away from the crowds, particularly during a holiday weekend. Our campsites were on the periphery of the campground, a short walk to the river. As such, we weren't completely surrounded by other campers, so that was a plus. It helped that we were rafting with All Outdoors, which had a spacious campsite set aside for them, and though we weren't one of the groups with the full outfitting and prepared meals, we were still able to camp in this area. The atmosphere at Camp Lotus is quite friendly and respectful of others. Even though it was stuffed to the gills, almost everyone observed the quiet hours; we didn't hear much commotion past 10:30 or so. Our campsite was clean on arrival and we made sure to leave it that way at departure. We were told that they would be enforcing a no-campfire regulation during our stay so we obediently left our firewood and kindling at home, but noticed several site where campers had roaring blazes going. We'll make note of this loose enforcement when we come back, as we all would have enjoyed sitting around a fire on a cool late spring evening. The bathrooms were clean, though there were no paper towels and the hot air hand dryers were not functional. One of the urinals in the men's room was out of order, and the other one was prone to overflowing. The staff at check-in were super helpful and welcoming, and the camp store had plenty of provisions and other supplies should you need anything. The river right by the campground is relatively calm, and our kids (all teenagers from 13-17) were comfortable tubing down that stretch even though the current takes you to the far side of the river. Coming back to shore requires only a little bit of effort to cross the current; parents of younger children might want to consider their tolerance for this activity since there is no lifeguard on duty and I have no idea what might be farther downstream. One in our group brought a stand-up paddleboard, which was enjoyed by all. So, this was a positive experience for us. It would have been nice to have a little more solitude, but the location was really ideal for our rafting trip the next day. read more

Had an incredible time at Camp lotus this past weekend! The grounds are absolutely breathtaking and the river, even more so. The staff is lovely, the facilities are clean. River runners has a location on the property and you can go Whitewater rafting just a few minute walk from your campsite. This is our second time renting a cabin at Camp Lotus. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. The location was perfect, as the property is right on the river. I love this camp. The camp sites are beautiful. Bathrooms are super clean and it was awesome to take a shower with hot water and good pressure. I will definitely go back again Shout out to the staff! Everyone was friendly, caring, and helpful. Special shout out to Charlie! We wrapped a raft with oar frame around a tree and it somehow landed at his place. We had our wedding at Camp Lotus last weekend and it was perfect. LuAnne is great to work with, the grounds are beautiful, cabins are great for getting ready and they had a lot of rental items that helped a ton. This is a special place run by a special crew of people. We felt taken care of from the moment we checked in. I forgot to buy coffee filters and instead of selling me a 100 filters, the receptionist just grabbed a few from his machine and handed them to me for free. It was a small gesture, but was typical of the hospitality the staff provided. They just want you to have a great weekend, which we did. We had a large group but there was lots of beautiful green space to set up tents, run around, grill and prepare great group meals on picnic tables under the string lighting that were perfect for the summer night. There was a fire pit to gather around, clean restrooms and hot shower (included) close by, but still a sense of privacy and security that gave all the parents peace of mind to let the kids explore. And of course, the rafting on the America River is world class. We will definitely be back! read more

Its a great place to stay! Clean, quiet, and tucked away. Little office store has a little of everything and their coffee is delicious. If you are their off season you will need to bring your own food, no cooking in the rooms, but lots of outside areas to eat. Great place to camp for children, but you should bring life jackets just because you are close to the river. Evening bugs, but delightfully out of the way. read more

Awesome place to spend a weekend.  Things to know: 1) Very central for rafting.  Many of the rafting companies operate nearby or even in the campground.  2) The owners are very serious about the quiet times and no dog policies.  They patrol and make sure things get quiet at 10pm. 3) Tons of 20-something outdoor enthusiasts.  They can be loud, roudy, and fun if you expect it.  They can also be inconsiderate.  4)  There are lots of families too...know what to expect. 5) lots of camping right on the river - puck your spots carefully and call the office for advice. 6) the store is actually a pretty good deal considering there is nothing nearby.  Don't be afraid to go in and use the deli or get ice. read more

I drive an SUV. Imagine my suprise when I arrived with my carpool, and I had to squeeze in between two trucks just to un-load. This was noon on a Saturday. I was lucky, at least I was able to park. Others were not so lucky. I stayed in the same spot until Sunday. Anytime I went to get something from my car, I was eyed like I was leaving. They need to landscape a new parking situation. I pitched a tent with no tarp underneath. I found the camp lots bumpy and over run with potholes. They were also confusing. There are no pathways so I walked through another campsite many times before I was admonished. I liked the cleanliness and availability of the restrooms and bathing facilities. Many times showers, commodes, and basins are nightmares. The location of the facilities are along a path and up stairs. Warning Do Not Drink Beer or Partake in Drinking Games to all hours of the night if you do not want to HIKE to the bathroom to relieve yourself! There are BBQ pits and picnic tables. The rates and other amenities are excellent. I loved the quiet. I was here with some legal professionals to white water raft down The South Fork of the American River. read more

The lots are decent sized, definitly larger and more comfortable than some others I've been camping at. And you have your choice of shower...either private or not, and you don't have to bring a gaggle of quarters to take one! Though there might be a gaggle of geese wandering through your campsite... Rafting from here is great, and that's what people do. So yes, expect err...rafters and rafting stuff and large trucks that can carry rafts on top of them. It happens, and it makes the parking lot a bit crowded. Oh well. Another plus: How many camping stores do you know on site that not only have espresso in the morning but also hot sandwiches for breakfast at very reasonable prices? NONE, I tell you, NONE. This place rocks my rafting socks. And they encourage recycling. Who could ask for more? read more

Camp Lotus is a little gem and my getaway on the South Fork of the American River. River access is awesome, each grassy camping site is located very close to the bank of the river and launching area. Insider Tip: The store sells an incredible pumpkin cream cheese muffin that you have to sink your teeth into. While you're wiping away those delicious muffin crumbs off your face you can check your email with wi-fi access available near the store. Leave your Segway in San Francisco and enjoy one of the many scenic hiking trails around Camp Lotus. I love this spot and look forward to coming back soon! read more

Awesome place our campsite was right on the river very green and shady everywhere! The campsites were big and very clean. The staff was great! Make sure you use the private showers by the store though otherwise it's gym style showers which is fine but it was very dirty when I went and there were kids playing in and out which made me a little hesitant to shower in there. The campsite has many river rafting companies that meet at the camp which is very convenient. The website says they have a deli however I didn't see one. I would come again its a nice spot central to everything with so many nice views. read more

Nestled in the Coloma-Lotus Valley, along the South Fork of the American River, this spot is ideal for camping, river rafting, kayaking, hammocking and an all-over great time! They have the cutest lil store with the best home-made muffins I've ever had in my life. Those muffins with some coffee sitting by the calm morning river is pure bliss! We had an October wedding here. Luanne was very helpful and clear. There were no hidden charges or sneaky tricks - just a straightforward contract with straightforward people. We were able to decorate how we liked, have the ceremony on the best spot on the river, and they had plenty of room to host our caterers (Flour Dust Pizza.) We used a powerful bluetooth / tailgate speaker to play music for the ceremony (EARISE M60 if anyone needs it) and then rolled it up to the reception area to play some music from a playlist while we ate and socialized. We never had any complaints about noise or anything from people camping nearby (or at least, it never made it to me LOL) and Luanne was also kind enough to let us hang out in the Barn until quite late, where we played board games and caught up with friends, and sat around the bonfire outside. It was super cozy! The only real hitch we hit was the tipi, which we hadn't really discussed prior to the event. It was constructed in the same area we booked our block of sites, which meant if we didn't rent it, we wouldn't have that section set aside privately. Unfortunately, the friends who rented it said they woke up covered in water from rain during the night and left the event early as a result. But even with that one small hitch, I fully recommend Camp Lotus. It was beautiful, affordable, and very accessible for our older guests. Plus, the folks who camped said they had a great time! The camp staff went out of their way to be as helpful and welcoming as possible, and it really showed. Also, the baked goods in the camp store are AMAZING! read more

We had our wedding in May '19 at Camp Lotus and had a wonderful time. Luanne was so helpful! She was responsive and a great problem solver, willing to work with us to make sure our day went off with out a hitch. We always felt taken care of. It's experiences like ours that make me want hop online and drop a 5-star review! The surroundings are beautiful, lush and shady. We received many compliments on the location from our guests. There lots of geese but we had no trouble with them. And when we wanted to rake away some of their poop, the venue provided us with rakes! The event hall (The Barn) is beautiful and accommodated our band and plenty of dancers. The cabins are comfortable and a great place to get ready in the morning and to crash at the end of the night. read more

We have been there with a group of friends. It is a good place to have fun and camping. Toilets were ok (not very clean, I did not expect something better in a camp park). The owners are very nice and I think it is a family own business and run. The price for the service we received was expensive. There is a nice river that we went to swim to cool down our body in 88F summer days (Without swimming in the river you may not tolerate the hot weather in here. The only concern I have was that I saw two poisonous snakes crawling only a few feet away! read more

We used Camp Lotus Cabins as one of our lodging choices during a recent trip to the area. The cabins were clean and comfortable, and the folks who run the place were very nice and super accomodating. We had to change our dates a couple of times, and their response was always the same "no problem". That kind of flexibilty is much appreciated and very welcome. The store makes great sandwiches, and their baked goods are to die for. If you're in the area, stop by for a muffin or a cookie - you'll be glad you did! read more

Stayed at Camp Lotus while white water rafting for the weekend. Was told we were gonna be "California camping". Honestly I had never heard that phrase until this trip...apparently it's like the fru-fru of camping. Electric outlets, free hot water, mini mart complete w/ fresh baked goods and a barista...basically, you're not really roughin it. This will be new to me!! =/ And i ended up loving it!!! Access to the river and all the shuttles for the rafting companies that go down the American River. Even if you're not going rafting, you can still walk right into the water from the campgrounds, or jump right in from several of the tree swings! Parking was fine since we arrived Friday night and left the car there till Sunday, and because we parked closer to the campsites then the general parking lot. I can see how there can be a lack of parking in the lots once daylight hits because everyone comes for the shuttles. But once evening hits, the cars disperse and parking becomes available again. Along w/ the bats...yes, as soon as the sun goes down those bats are everywhere! They stay high above the campsites so no need to worry, plus, they eat the mosquitos and...it's just pretty cool to see them that close!! =) All the staff here are friendly and helpful, the whole campground is clean, and the campsites are very spacious. Campers are pretty respectful and it gets pretty quiet at night so we can rest up for the all day rafting adventures the next day. And since we were there in July and August, the blackberries were fruitful for the picking right off the bush in our campsite. Awesome! =) There will definitely be repeat visits!! =D read more

This campsite is a very nice place to stay. The river runs right through it and is a nice place to wade in or swim on a hot day. And believe me it can get ungodly hot here. There are many water spigots available, trash and recycling bins in convenient locations, no bear boxes provided or required, large clean bathrooms and also free hot showers provided. The little store at the entrance is surprisingly well stocked, and also has firewood if needed. Also note that parking is in lots, and not pulled up to the site, but the walk is not very far. My one big complaint was how packed in the sites are. Our tent was just a couple feet away from the tent of other people in the next site over, and there is no privacy at all as everyone can see (and hear) everyone else. They do enforce quiet hours after 10, though some sites had to be told twice at least. Even so, the staff is all really nice. We stayed here since we were rafting on the river the next morning, and its very convenient for that purpose. We'd stay here again if we had a reason to be in the area. But due to the setup of the sites it's not one of my favorite camp areas. read more

I went here for a Kayak class and stayed in the overflow, though the lady was trying to sell me a campsite for 33.00 bucks. I am low maintenance and went for the free for all community in the overflow parking/camp area with the other kayakers and rafters. Did I just say "Community"? I met a kayaker there who was kicked out of where he had his stuff by a bunch of rafters and they were not nice about it! I It was fine for 11 bucks, I cooked off my trucks tail gate and had a nice place of grass for my little tent. They make pricey but good sandwiches to go in the little store and have some good little items there, like Tevas, sunglass croakies, and 93 cent toothpaste. One word to your first visit, PAY THE LADY UPON ARRIVAL! If you don't she for sure will chase you down! read more

A friend of mine and her kids went camping here for part of the long weekend, and we had a decent experience. The good: - It's inexpensive - The staff is nice - It's close driving distance to some enjoyable places to spend your day - There's a general store that sells most things you might need, including firewood, at a reasonable price - The sites seem fairly well maintained The bad: - I don't know if it's common, but people there were on the louder and rowdier side and didn't seem particularly respectful of the serenity of nature. - Campsites are right near the dirt roads and cars, so you don't really feel too much like you've gotten away to nature - We didn't find any decent places on the site to enjoy the water and recreation; we felt we had to venture elsewhere So in all, this is an OK place to set up your tent, light your fire, and camp, but if you're like me and my party, you won't want to spend much of your daylight hours here. read more

I like Camp Lotus...it's a nice area, convenient for rafting and the staff is super friendly. However, it is EXTREMELY overpriced. For $12 a person and a minimum of $36 a night, you'll practically be sitting on your neighbors lap. Want to go hang out at the river? Unless it's a slow day, you'll be sitting on laps there also. Then there is the cabins, which cost more than cabins on Lake Tahoe...wtf? I'll stay here again because of the convenience when on rafting trips. I'd never come here just to "camp". read more

We've been here two days now and I have nothing bad to say! The camp is clean and has everything we need. There are both private and public showers available. The bathrooms are are clean. They have a 10pm curfew which I love! The store has everything you could forget or need and more. The staff here is friendly and helpful. It sits right next to the lake and it's so relaxing. Camp Lotus is rafter central. The owners Bill and Robin are very nice. Robin makes awesome muffins and cookies and the egg sandwhich was a much needed addition to the morning offerings. The coffee is a little too weak. Because it is so convenient, during the height of the season it is crowded, so the camp sites seem too close together and the parking is mayhem and at $9 per person per site, it seems kind of outrageous. However, there are hot showers and overall the place is well maintained, so whats a rafter to do? read more

This place wasn't bad - not the GREATEST, but not the worst. We had a great site, though - T1, i think. Try to request either T1 and/or T2 because we had fantastic lake access and the sites are a bit on the more private side. The lake was extremely clear & clean, but freezing! That just makes for good games, though ;-) One complaint is that the restrooms were a bit far and small. And maneuvering through the crazy confusing parking lot at night while under the influence trying to find these restrooms was a freaking headache. It just felt really cramped. We only stayed for one night, and if not for the rafting trip I probably wouldn't choose to stay here again - unless I reserved both T1 and T2. Overall, I'd give this place a C+/B-. read more
