COME FOR THE AJIACO, stay for the giant portions and delicious platters! After our trip to Colombia last year, I was really craving some nice ajiaco soup in this chilly weather. Not only did it hit the spot (and omg that rice?? So good!!) but the service and the rest of the food were top notch as well. We got the appetizer sampler, which featured a variety of our faves- empanadas, guac, sausage, maduros. We finished off with the huevos pericos, or traditional Colombian breakfast. I went with my daughter and her three kids to the dentist across the street from this restaurant. She & the kids were all hungry, so we came over for brunch. The shrimp ceviche was delicious, and full of bite sized shrimp. The guacamole had a slightly different flavor than Mexican, and was also delicious. Both were served with plantain chips, which was the perfect accompaniment. My daughter had the pernil, also outstanding in flavor, and quite tender. The side of tostones was as good as my Cuban husband makes. The kids each had waffles and French toast. My friend raves about this place's pizza. I didn't know it was green plantain based crust, which I was a fan of bc i love tostones. Rice is nicely flavored and its a quaint cutesy place very intimate with a friendly server. She was kind and check up on us often. My guac for the table was loved by my cousin but for me i prefer them chunkier. I would get it spicier for next time but the table prefers mild. Our group's favorite of the options was the ajiaco (soup), the chicken was nicely shredded and the corn and potato has such good flavor, the pot itself was super conveniently homey vibe. Picada was nicely fried w a various of pork and beef, yuca fried was nice and the blood sausage has a very juicy flavor with yummy rice bits which all blends very well with a side of avocado and soupppp. A little side salad came with the patacon pizza, and there was unlimited amount of sauce i think its ketchupmayo taste good w fried meats. This old staple of Park Slope was one of my first introductions to Colombian cuisine many years ago, and I found myself back here on a recent cold evening when I was craving some soup. Their meat heavy menu wasn't an issue for me this time as I just reintroduced chicken back into my diet after 14 years without land animals, and their consome de pollo. The soup was okay-- it had corn on the cob, onions, and the stock was well seasoned. Colombia in Park Slope is located along the busy Fifth Avenue where there are tons of shops and restaurants to visit. It would be really easy to walk right by this eatery thanks to its very unassuming store front, but inside is comfortable decor with an aesthetic heavily focused on wood and warm colors. The front has a table that easily seats four right by the bar. More seating is located in back that could easily fit a dozen people or so. The staff at Colombia is extremely friendly and good about answering questions about the menu. When we needed multiple take out boxes at the end of the meal they were great about bringing them quickly. They were also very apologetic when one of the drinks I ordered was not available (I ordered my second choice, it was no big deal). My friends and I shared several appetizers before our entrees so here's a rundown of all the food I had during my recent visit: AREPA DE CHOCLO CON QUESO (Sweet Corn Griddle Cake With Melted Fresh Colombian Cheese) We ordered an Arepa and added on Chicharron to it. We deliberately picked the sweet corn cake so there would be a wonderful sweet and savory combination and it did *not* disappoint! The chew was perfect with some crispiness thanks to the Chicharron. The flavors were spot on. I absolutely loved it! GUACAMOLE CON TIRAS DE PLATANO A LA MESA (Mashed Avocado Mixed With Cilantro, Onions, Tomatoes And Peppers, Made At Your Table, Mild, Medium Or Hot With Green Plantains) The guac is made fresh to order so you have a choice of going mild or spicy. Our table decided on mild (I would have preferred spicy) but that's ok! It was very tasty and I *loved* having plantain chips instead of the usual tortilla chips. That said, I like some cheese mixed into my guac so I was missing that a bit. EMPENADAS (Mini Corn Flour Empanadas Of Beef, Cheese or potatoes) This is the perfect dish to share with friends. We each got to try different Empenadas and they were very tasty with a perfect texture! My favorite was the beef one which was packed with flavor and the meat was moist. CHULETA DE CERDO EN SALSA DE TAMARINDO (Center cut pork chop marinated in tamarind sauce, served with rice, beans, fried sweet plantain and dilled onions) Any time I see a dish with a Tamarind sauce I'm *down* for it. This dish was excellent. The pork chops were cooked perfectly and the Tamarind sauce was wonderful (I wished I had more of it!). The rice and beans were tasty and the sweet plantain had a nice crisp on the outside with a nice and sweet flavor. Colombia in Park Slope is one of the few spots that makes the cut! Especially their ajiaco soup, a personal favorite of mine, which he tells me tastes pretty close to traditional. Brooklyn is not know for good Colombian food. I have ordered from Bogota Latin Bistro consistently only because I've dined there and its decent. I decided to order from Colombian in park slope and was disappointed. Paid $70 for a Bandeja paisa with Morchilla, which it self pretty good but the rest... it was just OK. The steak was tiny. The food tasted good and was well seasoned, but the Chicharrón just looks so sad. I think I prefer Bogotá Latin bistro better as their Bandeja paisa seems superior than this place. read more

The staff here is really what earned the 5th star. I was between 4 and 5 - the food is very good, but I can be fairly stingy with my 5s as true mind blowing food is rare - but the staff is just so friendly and wonderful here it absolutely merits that final star. I had the mini empanadas, which were wonderful - definitely get them with the check in order. Monday, August 26, 2024 Dinner for 2. We were greeted and sat immediately. We received menus and water and started to look over the menu.. We decided on passionfruit beverage and a soursop beverage. Both were very good...just needed a little ice. We order an order of Guacamole with plantain chips which was fresh and mildly spiced. Estrada Asada is beer marinated steak in a delicious sauce and came with salad, muduros, rice and beans. Very tasty and well made. Parillada Columbia a variety of meats which were all flavorful and tender came with salad and rice which I added and iver easy egg to. Churros fresh and piping hot, litely sugared topped with whipped cream and mint over a drizzle of raspberry sauce. Everything was wonderful. We stopped by to have a late lunch during the weekend and had a very good time in here. It was our first time and it will not be our last. Food was very good and had an authentic Colombian homemade flavor, I'm Colombian so I can tell. We had the bandeja paisa and sancocho de costilla and for dessert the coconut flan. For drinks we went with michelada beer, delicious, and apple Colombian soda, my favorite. Everything was delicious! The ambience is nice they play good music, the service was good too, people were incredibly friendly, decor is authentic and restrooms were clean. They have a back patio with a great setting, heaters, sound system, completely covered, and it looks like it gets fun at night! By the time we arrived it was closed however they offered to give us a table there. We sat inside regardless. Portions are more than enough if you have a big appetite, good to share if you will. Even years later, this place is still great. We unfortunately came too late for happy hour, which was until 6 PM. We still opted to get a pitcher of their special of the day, a passionfruit mojito. The pitcher was filled to the brim and we ended up getting 5-6 drinks out of it which was well worth the cost. For food, we ordered the guacamole and the Parrillada Colombia. The guacamole was great and was a large portion. I recall previously the plantains used to be more like tostones, but are now plantain chips which I enjoyed as well. The Parradilla was a huge shareable entree that came with assorted of grilled meat (shrimp, chicken, sausage and steak) which also came with rice and salad. I especially enjoyed the shrimp and steak. This entree was huge, so definitely share! We ended up taking nearly half of it home because we'd ordered the guacamole. Overall, this is a great place with a friendly staff!
