Roasted Pork (Pernil) with rice and beans

I got the pork platter from ubereats and it was really good! I'm impressed by the presentation and everything was super yummy. It's a large portion too! It hit the spot and tasted like a traditional pernil platter. My only complaint is that the pernil was already pretty cold by the time i got it, but i assume it got cold when it was on its way to me. My beans were still warm so that made up for it! Overall, super delicious platter and I'm excited to try this place in person.

Amazing!!!! Came up as a spot for good Colombian food so checked this place out of curiosity (and reviews ;) and was very pleased. Staff, super nice and helpful. Like one of those Mom & Pop spots that's little and quaint AND serves really yummy food. Ordered the Bandeja Paisa (I believe this is your traditional Colombian meat combination plate) - Chicarrón, steak, sausage arepa, avocado, egg, rice and sweet plantain: Very good (and filling. we shared this between the 2 of us). However, what caught my eye, the Ball of Green Banana (Bola de Banana Verde)...my gosh, delicious! Chopped up green bananas that's rolled into a ball with pieces of crispy pork belly and cheese. By itself, good. Drizzle a little bit of their garlic lemony salsa on top...and you've got yourself a wonderful fiesta happening on your taste buds. If you're one for that Green Plantain flavor, green Banana is slightly different, but I believe this dish will not disappoint. I'm coming back for more and then some :)

    Pollo Empanizado

This is simple, tasty food, served by nice people for a good price. More people should follow this formula. There was a sign in the window for a lunch special of a chicken wrap and soup. The nice waitress told me the soup was chicken soup. So I ordered it. I was in a chicken mood. But then she came back and screamed, "NO CHICKEN SOUP FOR YOU!" (Just kidding, that's a Seinfeld joke. Get it? Pop culture, amiright?) Anyway, she actually just apologized in a very normal voice and said the soup of the day was actually lentil. Well, I'll be damned if I order lentil soup, so I got the Pollo Empanizado platter instead...which I realized that was a way better choice than a chicken wrap, even if the place wasn't called Gusto Latino. Which it was. To make this long inane story short, my pollo empanizado was a hearty portion of juicy breaded chicken cutlet with rice and beans on the side. Everything was well-seasoned and well-cooked, and the few pickled onions that were the perfect touch to tie it all together.

I ordered the picada my receipt had rice and means on it for 18.00 as a side on the menu on grub hub. I called because I have a one year old that can't eat all the meat and was counting on the soft food. The rude worker at the restaurant was being so rude refuse to send what was on my receipt. She said it doesn't come with the order I told her it was on the menu as a side. For a place that is always empty I can't believe she wouldn't send my item although it's on the menu and receipt. She continued to be rude saying I should return the food. Called grub hub got my money back because the treatment was ridiculous because of their own mistake. Do not order from here staff is rude and food was disgusting. 18.00 dollars for cheap thin steak large chunks of the back of the chicken wings ? And no sausage no arepa HORRIBLE. I've never in my life seen a Colombian picada like this gross

Rotisserie chicken from here is delicious and addictive. Chicken is perfectly seasoned, moist and tender. Plantains are always great, but these sweet plantains were the right consistency and not too fried (I think they may have been baked.) Also the beans and rice were delicious. I picked up a whole chicken and two sides from there tonight on a whim and they took maybe 5 minutes to get my order ready. The staff was sweet and gracious. The food was perfectly packed and included some delicious bonus sauce. I had a huge plate of chicken, rice & beans and sweet plantains and I have enough food left for at least 5 more meals! It was a great value for the cost. I can't wait to go back and try more things.

The most recent time was a few days ago, and it was excellent. The staff is nice, and the portions are generous for the price point, with two of us taking home leftovers out of the four people dining. To drink, three of us had shakes, or rather batidos, with the prices being $7 en agua or $8 en leche. I went with Lulo, which is listed as Solanum online, but really refers to naranjilla. As per the name, it means a little orange, but it is closer in flavor to a mix between pineapple and lime. Others had Maracuyá/passion fruit and Guanábana/soursop, and everyone enjoyed their drinks. They gave us some chulpi/corn nuts on the table, along with some aji verde, a lightly spicy green sauce which went with some of our heavier appetizers. Our heavier appetizer was two orders of the Bolón Mixto for $10. Bolon refers to a green plantain ball, and they offer the traditional cheese version along with chicharron, or with camarones/shrimp. The mixto combines the cheese and pork, and it was delicious, but very filling. One was more than enough, but we still enjoyed it, with the aji verde helping to reduce the overall richness. There was also the $6.50 Yapingachos/Llapingacho, or pan-fried potato cakes. These came two to an order and came topped with an onion and tomato salsa, along with some lettuce below. The potato cakes were a lot lighter by comparison to our other appetizer, but still flavorful. I would recommend them, as with other people who go here. Our smaller main dish was the Ceviche de Pescado for $17.00, or fish cocktail served either with rice or, as our choice, chifles or fried plantain chips. This was also available as a mixto, but I didn't order it as I have a pulpo allergy. There was a large amount of fresh fish inside for the price, making it very worth it. As with most ceviches, there was some sourness from the lime along with some fresh chopped herbs, onions, and tomatoes. It lacked a bit of heat I usually prefer, but I still liked it, and the whole thing was devoured quickly. Our other main dishes were all $19. My favorite of the bunch was the Seco de Chivo, with goat stew slowly cooked in home-made sofrito and beer, served with yellow rice, sliced avocado, and sweet plantain. The goat was cooked down until it was extremely tender, but still had a bit of chew, and there was a good amount of meat, even with the amount of bones in there. The broth was savory and mildly sweet, being warming, comforting, and perfect on top of the rice. This was excellent. For most of the other group, their favorite was the Chaulafan, a mix of stir-fried rice with chicken, beef, shrimp, egg, and veggies served with sweet plantain and avocado. The rice had a nice texture with some lightly crispy portions and was mildly salty. The meat inside was mostly very tender, regardless of what meat it was. This was excellent as well. The remaining dish was the Sango de Camarones, listed as a tropical dish and a purée of green plantains, slowly cooked in peanut sauce and shrimp, and topped with citrus red onions served with yellow rice and sliced avocado. The dish had a unique, almost gruel-like texture, which was a bit off-putting to some, but others like myself liked it. The shrimp inside was tender, and the dish felt a bit richer than the other mains. This was probably our least favorite main, but it was still good. We were quite full, but got some $7 Flan for dessert, which is in-house made. It wasn't overly sweet, which is my preference, and the texture was semi-soft. It was a good version, and the portion was large for the price. We liked this as well. Not many complaints here. Friendly service and good, reasonably priced food.

Since my friends and I all live in Manhattan, it was an adventure for us. A rooftop restaurant with an outdoor terrace yes please. Decor was gorgeous and sleek. Although the bar was small, it was lighted and eye-catching. A huge Nutcracker greets you as soon as you walk inside. The space was loft style with seating upstairs as well as an outdoor terrace. (Terrace was closed due to winter). There was a DJ booth upstairs as well which led me to believe the place might turn into a club/lounge. Lots of seating everywhere. The crowd was mild when we arrived with a few birthdays observed. As the day went on the crowd was a bit more lively. The food looked quite delicious as my friends ordered steak and eggs and an English Muffin dish with poached eggs and fries. Good sized portions for the price. However, my French Toast was less than desired. Three sad little pieces of a faux brioche bread that was served cold. No salad on the plate as you can see from the picture. This was my meal for the day and not satisfying at all. Our waitress was very nice and did her due diligence EXCEPT for our water service. We ordered water and she did not specify that there was a charge for it. When our bill came and we asked about it, she stated that we "asked for flat water not tap water". I did not recall her stating there was a charge. She assumed we wanted flat BOTTLED water and charged us for it. Not good service since she was not being transparent. Bathrooms were clean. The place is definitely a vibe. If you are looking for views of the city and overpricing in Queens, this is your place. I would have to weigh my options prior to a second visit as I can't say it would be my first choice.

Unfortunately I'm having to recant my previous 5-star review as I've had TWO bad experiences since…read moreoriginally publishing my review.... The first incident was 3.5 months ago when I ordered food to-go and requested extra Salsa Criolla sauce for my jackfruit sandwich....but got home and discovered NO salsa criolla sauce was given to me at all. This was extremely upsetting as this sauce COMES WITH the sandwich. Without it, it's very dry and not as tasty. Today I decided to give them another chance and ordered via Uber Eats. I included a note on my order, "SALSA CRIOLLA - plz don't forget". The food arrived 15+ minutes after the delivery window (which it's exactly their fault as it's a third party delivery service), however I was dumbfounded when once again I discovered NO salsa criolla sauce in my bag. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?! It's absolutely ridiculous that they completely left out something that COMES WITH my sandwich a second time, especially since I wrote an extra note about it. My receipt shows the phrase "salsa criolla" twice (see my photo), meaning there is no excuse for them to have forgotten it this time. This is so unfortunate, because I truly do love their food! However I can no longer trust them. Note to management: train your staff to double-check orders before sending them out. Your receipts literally list out every single component needed for an order to be complete, so there is absolutely no excuse for incomplete orders to keep being sent out like this.

I walked onto this small storefront where they had a squeeze rubber chicken hanging upside down to grab their attention inside (which I thought was funny & ingenious). And it really did work - from personal experience. The staff member came straight away. And I got to ordering my food. I decided to order the BEEF & CHICKEN SALTENAS. The saltenas really are empanadas x soup dumplings collab. It's like they put a hearty stew inside an empanadas looking incasing. It was mostly savory, but had a slight sweet kick. The exterior is well made & crispy. The shell is quite thick that the soup doesn't really soak through and really does hold the soup inside really well. All considering, I only got a few drops of the soup coming out when I ate it for the first time. I also added the green sauce inside and it really did deliver a spicy kick. Overall, I like both options. But I do prefer the beef if I had to choose one to buy. If you don't feel like braving the cold and waiting outside in the cold like I did, I suggest you order ahead.
