My friend has been raving about this place for a while now and he decided to take our friends and I there! The location is located in a shopping center next to Safeway. The inside was very quiet with no other customers there. I was immediately met with the expansive menu of all the sandwiches they have. I was between the Godfather (my friend's favorite sandwich) and the Club House Sandwich (my tried and true sandwich). Ultimately, I chose the Club House Sandwich. My order took a while since the restaurant ran out of the Dutch Crunch Bread :(. I was slightly devastated for a moment, but after recovering, I let them replace it with sourdough bread. Once I got my order, I was excited to try it, but when I took the initial bite I noticed my sandwich was really dry. After adding more Mayo to my order it got better and overall it was a good sandwich, but not a phenomenal one. I was slightly disappointed with the sourdough bread because I was excited to try the Dutch Crunch Bread. In the future, I'm going to try to make it back to this restaurant to try a new sandwich with Dutch Crunch bread and hope for the best they don't run out. Sandwiches have been at the top of my cravings list all month, so I've decided to go on my own sandwich tour around the Peninsula! My latest stop led me to Colombo's Deli. Ordering was super simple, as I went on their website, scrolled the menu, and opted for the steak sandwich. Ordering direct from their website is the way to go because you are able to easily make customizations and they'll give you an estimated pickup time. This was my 2nd time eating the steak sandwich, because the first time I got it I didn't read the menu carefully, and didn't realize it didn't come with lettuce and tomatoes. 2nd time around, I added the lettuce and tomatoes, plus truffle butter ($14.50). The sandwich came out around $18 with tax and tip. For me the bread can make or break a sandwich, and the dutch crunch didn't taste fresh. The vessel for any sandwich is the bread, and my sando was too much bread and light on the sandwich fillings. The steak itself had little to no flavor. The steak cut into strips lead to the meat falling out of the sandwich. I think one big piece would work better for this sandwich. The house garlic sauce was good and definitely adds to the flavor of the sandwich. I also ordered a side of mac salad, which was also underseasoned, tasted better when I added extra salt and pepper. Passed by this place a lot finally decided to try it out, walking into the place it looks like a really small mini market, but they do have a lot of different sandwiches, they make their bread in house. Came here to get lunch about two weeks ago. I had placed a phone order and they had told me that the sandwiches would be ready in thirty minutes. I get to the place to pick up my sandwiches and I was told that I had to wait another thirty minutes. There was no effort made to apologize. I was simply told that they were working on other orders. I tried The Manor and The Rockaway which were their panini sandwiches. I liked The Manor as I am a huge lover of pesto but I found The Rockaway really disappointing. My husband and I were really looking forward to real Italian deli sandwiches, so we stopped here 10 days ago. We were the only customers. I ordered a hot Coppa sandwich on Dutch crunch and hubby ordered the Godfather also on Dutch crunch and ordered 1/2 lb of Coppa to take home It took them over 20 minutes to make 2 sandwiches. We took the sandwiches to a park and we're SO disappointed when we unwrapped them!! Both Dutch crunch were so blackened that we could only eat the inside fillings. I moved to Pacifica about a year and a half ago....I've desperately wanted to make Colombo's my regular spot for sandwiches but after several tries to give them my business they've failed so many times that I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. I grew up on the Mr. Pickle's in downtown San Mateo. Moved to SF in College and enjoyed everything from Arguello Super's famous turkey sandwich to a classic Italian at Molinari's. Living back on the Peninsula for some years I love a good sandwich everywhere from say Little Luca to a high end market's deli counter. So, when I found Colombo's I really wanted to like the place even though my partner told me it wasn't that good. So, I've gone in several times now and this review is a recap of the experiences. 1) The wait. It's RIDICULOUSLY long. What are they doing back there? I'm shocked as this place doesn't have a line out the door like many other establishments which I've been to and it appears to be well staffed, but you sit there for about a minimum of 15 minutes sometimes upwards of 30 minutes waiting. I don't see a mass of pickup orders in that same time either. A sandwich here or there, a few in one order or something. But many times they've got 3-4 people back there working the counter making sandwiches and they seem to churn them out super slow. I don't know if they need to adjust the model they're using (i.e. perhaps it's one person per sandwich and they move on versus having an assembly line or something). Honestly, I have no idea what's so slow. Maybe the employees are coming back with some hazy and glassy eyes after their breaks and are just moving at 20% of what normal speed should be...whatever it is I think they need a better system and some pep in their step to get orders executed faster per customer. 2) The Quality The quality of the ingredients isn't anything bad, super cheap or gross, however it's nothing outside of traditional deli meats and fare being offered. With that said, on my most recent experience one of the sandwiches ordered was a BBQ beef and the beef was not only skimping, but it was super dry and not satisfying at all. It tasted as though it was old and had been reheated and lost any sense of moisture in the meat. Tasted more like chopped leather shoelaces in bbq sauce and not beef. The other ingredients on some sandwiches from the turkey to salami have been fine, but it's really hard to have bad deli meats in a deli in my personal opinion. 3) The Stock & Selection They pride themselves on things such as having fresh bread, but sometimes they're out of stock of something somewhat important. One time, I went with their reuben as I love a good reuben and they didn't have rye bread. Now, it wasn't like I just had a hankering for a reuben that day, it was their special of the month. I'd hope that they'd have enough rye to ensure that they can make their special. Other times I asked for something on Dutch and they were out of Dutch. I appreciate the selection of deli salads, additional items like dolmas and such inside the deli case. The selection of things like chips & ice cream isn't bad, but nothing super special or too unique to me. The things like ravioli & sauces are nice from an aesthetic standpoint, however the lack of anything super fresh or more competitively priced makes it less valuable as a practical offering. 4) Prices The prices wouldn't be bad IF the sandwiches were better. In the year and half or so, I think that the sandwiches have become noticeably worse. How then are they going to justify the rise in the prices? For what they're charging for sandwich I think it's worth looking elsewhere. read more

This place has gone waaaay downhill. I've ordered this sandwich before and had no problem, but apparently it's now too much for them to handle. I called and tried to get a soft roll with Italian sausage red sauce and provolone. They said they can't do that. I then asked for a Sicilian (Italian sausage sandwich) plain with marinara, they can't do it. I asked if their meatball sandwich came with marinara, it does, they cannot however put it on the Sicilian sandwich. The deli felt homey and was clean. I'd give the service 5 stars as the staff were helpful in helping me decide what to eat. Ultimately, I went with the popular choice of The Godfather on Sourdough by staff recommendation. The content of the sandwich was filled in good balanced portions however my sourdough was the lacking factor that made it average. The produce and meats were amazing in that it tasted fresh and new. On the hand, the sourdough exterior was hard to bite down through and the "fluffy" part of the bread was minimal. I am not sure if I had a bad batch of sourdough but from other reviews, consistency might be the issue here. If the bread was good, I'd give this place 5 stars. read more

I loooove Colombo's. I usually customize my own 2 meat sandwich, and I get pepper turkey and pastrami. I also highly recommend the deli sauce; it's a game changer. I tried their breakfast sandwiches recently too and was blown away. I also recommend getting a brownie or a rice crispie to accompany your sandwich :) The only thing that annoys me about this place is that there have been three times where I ordered online, and it said it would be ready in x amount of time. When I get there on time or a little later than the projected time, they have not started my sandwich and it takes another 20 minutes for them to make it. If I'm not in a hurry though, definitely worth the wait. read more

Solid deli spot. I was really in the mood for a deli sandwich so I decided to get myself a Hobb's Gobbler - smoked turkey, havarti cheese, wasabi mustard, all on dutch crunch - how can you go wrong? They don't do delivery, only pick up - I arrived about 5 minutes earlier than what my pickup time was supposed to be but they already had my sandwich ready to go. The deli itself is also a combination mini Italian market with an assortment of groceries like pastas, cheeses, and desserts, so if you're in the mood for other household items, you can get them here in one go. The sandwich itself was sizable - a healthy portion of protein and all its fixings to satiate any hunger. I thought my sandwich was really good and I especially liked the havarti and wasabi mustard combo. However, I had requested the bread to be scooped, which unfortunately it was not. Oh well, you can't get it all right. We also ordered a half pint of the macaroni salad on the side - it was a little too mayo-ey for my taste but overall, still pretty decent and paired nicely with my sandwich. read more

We came here since another restaurant we were trying to go was closed, but this place has amazing sandwiches and I'm shocked that I have never heard of this deli before. I ordered a pastrami sandwich, then went to another area for the sandwich and to pay. The wait for my sandwich was quite long and a few people who ordered after me got their sandwich before me. I thought it was a little weird that it wasn't made in the order it was received. The line was super long and everyone looked confused on why the line wasn't moving but my group assumed that they call your name, and that's when you go up to pay. Everything went uphill after I received my sandwich. My sandwich was filled with pastrami and other goodies. More importantly, the bread was one of the freshest bread I've ever had. It was definitely a good sandwich. It's a little on the pricier side for a sandwich but then everything in the area is pricier because it's by the beach. Come for the sandwiches! Is Colombo's closing? I have always been a huge fan of this place. I no longer live in Pacifica but when I do visit I always grab a sandwich or two there. I do think this last visit on Tuesday will be my last. I ordered a Lt. Colombo sandwich and was so disappointed. No teleme cheese or pate. Instead a thin slice of jack cheese and no pate. Why do you advertise this speciality sandwich if you don't have the ingredients or let your customer know? The place doesn't have any signage and fridges are empty. I ordered and enjoyed the Vegetarian sandwich on the house baked focaccia w/ Swiss cheese. The ratio of everything in the sandwich was on point and very satisfying, the only exception I would have enjoyed more would have been a few more slices of avocado (I initially thought they had forgotten to add the avo before I found a small portion on the bottom layers).The focaccia bread was also a very delicious choice, with a soft chew & rich flavor. I'm a life long Pacifican and while I love Colombo's, even I am frequenting them less and less these days. I typically order the house turkey or oven roasted turkey and to this date have gotten at least 4 different types- there's no consistency. Additionally no matter what time I order, for example I ordered at 11 am today and it was still 25 minutes for 2 sandwiches, it even looked like a ghost town when I went to get my food too! Not just lack of customers but shelf items as well. They also have gotten my very plain turkey and cheese sandwich wrong no matter how I order it, online or phone. Today was a phone order and the two sandwiches had their bread choices switched. I don't even feel confident catering business meetings because lack of consistency. To add insult to injury $15/sammie is getting a little steep. I love deli sandwich as much as the next person but just to compare, I went to Molinari's last week and paid the same, actually a little less for the perfect sandwich with twice as much meat. Wow this has been the worst Italian deli experience I have had. This place was way overhyped. Going back to the usual little lucca and Teani's. Wasn't completely horrible as the stars I've chosen are 2 but some things were unacceptable. PROS: steak in the steak sandwich was soft and not chewy, coppa meat was good and the bread is good CONS: - DID NOT ADD THE EXTRAS WE PAID FOR ON 3 out 4 of our sandwiches - 1st sandwich: was missing pepperoncini and pesto sauce - 2nd sandwich: missing steak sauce -3rd sandwich: missing fresh basil and cucumbers -THEN they started adding things we didn't even ask for on our sandwich. - the sandwich missing steak sauce had tomatoes on it when nowhere on our order says we want tomatoes. - the sandwich missing fresh basil and cucumbers had so much pepper on it...we obviously did not ask for peppers. -Another con is the portion of meat was lowkey sad. The LT Columbo sandwich we ordered had like two slices of each meat. I don't understand why you guys would add stuff we don't ask for and then not put in the things we asked and paid for ? read more

This has been my favorite deli. I was in there about a week ago and it looks like the place is shutting down. Hopefully that's not the case. They didn't have Teleme, and the meat section looked pretty limited. I'm not sure if they are struggling for business but it was busy on a Tuesday afternoon despite looking like they were going to close down the shop. Colombo's is one of the few great places to eat in Pacifica. They bake their own bread and have high quality meats and accompaniments. Many signature sandwich options with my favorite being the Godfather....Italian Meats, provolone, artichoke hearts, pepperoncini all on a fresh sourdough roll. Other family favorites are their Hoagie and Tomaso Special. A full deli case of fresh side salads, olives, cannoli, etc., can round out your meal. You may have to wait a bit and it's not cheap, but you get what you pay for and it's well worth the wait. You can always call ahead and place your order so it can be ready for you. If you're headed to a friend's or want a great lunch to take to the beach, picnic or the ballgame. stop by Colombo's and pick up some great food. This place is a Pacifica gem. read more

Wow, I cannot believe how awful my last three visits have been. Been going to Colombo's for decades, but it's a very different place now. The app to pre-order just never seems to be turned 'on' now. It always says, "Closed." So today I go in for a turkey sandwich on sourdough, everything but pickles and cheese. $15.50 now. Used to be a line out the door on the weekends, but today two other people in there, but I'm told it'll be 20-25 minutes. OK. I sit down and wait. After getting my sandwich I get home, sit down and unwrap it. A sandwich covered in pickles, on Dutch Crunch, with what looks like lunch meat turkey. It looks a whole lot like that lunch meat that comes in the reusable plastic container you'd buy at a supermarket in the cold cuts section. I will say it was a huge sandwich, absolutely. This place is a Pacifica staple, but it's going to be some time before I try Colombo's again I'm afraid. read more
