This place has changed after not coming for about 5 years. They've remodeled and I love the change. This was my go to place after church (after I used to go to church in Pacifica). The line was always long and the place was always crowded. In the past, you have to take a number to place your order. I visited on a weekday this time. There was no line (YAY, i was so happy) and now everything electronic. You go up to the order counter, they make your sandwich and you checkout on the other side. Colombo's Deli has an assorted selection of cheeses, wines, pasta sauces, pastas and much, much more. Their sandwich selection is amazing and a must try. I had the salmon sandwich and it was delish! I didn't go in but had DoorDash delivery at work. I ordered the vegetarian and which comes with a variety of vegetables plus mustard and mayo. No other choices offered for sauce besides mustard and mayo. Ok anyways... the sandwich comes and it looks alright, it's a decent size. I unwrapped it and the first thing I notice is that it had hella cheese. I had to peel off two slices from each half. The Dutch crunch bread was so dry, I ended up picking it apart and eating the toppings without most of the bread. I wouldn't order from here again... OK, so for the benefit of the millennials, Columbo, spelled with a "u", was a classic long-running television series (1968-2003), for which the legendary actor Peter Falk received four Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe, and it has nothing in common with this fabulous Pacifica deli other than a similar name. And that although the actor died in 2011, both the television series and the deli were/are institutions, around practically forever. The Colombo's menu is loaded with great sandwich options but I started by considering an old favorite.The deli clerk let me sample their egg salad, which was ok but I couldn't get past what tasted like a hint of pickle juice. I don't live in the area, so when I come here it's because I caught them before they closed because I normally work late. I used to live in Daly city so I would come here regularly, but not as much as I'd like anymore. Today, I ordered three sandwiches ahead of time over the phone and was so excited to pick up my order. When I got home though, I could tell instantly that all three sandwiches had stale bread. That for sure it wasn't bread that's been there from today. The "crunch" part hard from the top and did not look fresh and when I bit the last bite of my sandwich half, the corner of the bread was tough. The sandwich was great on the inside but the bread really killed it for me. I'm not sure if it's worth me coming back again since I'm coming from South San Francisco. All the good sandwich spots in the area are pretty mediocre. At this point, I think I may have better luck getting my sandwiches at Safeway next door in the future. The sandwiches here are great, probably because of the bread (we get the sourdough roll), which they freshly bake onsite. So dang good. Our go-to is salami and cheddar, simple but delish. I recommend calling ahead to place your order because they are always busy and typically sort of slow. Other than speed of completing your order - service is tropically good. I used to work at a deli and it baffles me that it takes them so long to make a sandwich. However, I'm willing to wait because it's worth it. Open since 1986, this place imparts hand made ravioli, lasagnas, tortellini, and pasta primavara using traditional recipes from the old country. While seeming to be a large conglomerate, this is truly a small family business doing big things! My favorite is their "Godfather" sandwich with all the "fixings". ABSOLUTELY SCRUMPCIOUS!!! If Michael Angelo were still here to enjoy this heavenly delight, then he'd paint a Hoagie reaching out to the big guy himself. The sandwich shop I usually buy from has, sadly, decreased it's delivery service availability. Bad for them, good for Columbo's. What we ordered - Steak Sandwich, Hot Pastrami Sandwich, and Cold Pastrami Sandwich. Delivered in a timely manner to my front door. I highly recommend the Steak Sandwich on their menu. It was very close to perfect, right off the menu. As were the other sandwiches we got. I've never tried brie on pastrami, but I'm glad I did. Sometimes, you just gotta push your boundaries, you know? Ordered two sandwiches and their SF potato salad on DoorDash. For some reason, the driver took El Camino all the way from RWC. One of the sandos was their 2 meat special. Well, what do you think happened? They built the sandwich with each of the meats separately on one side of the bread and the other meat on the other. Never in my life have I seen this. The SF potato salad was nothing like it should be. It lacked flavor and contained red onion and other things that normally are not in it. Crazy lunch. read more

I'm a life long Pacifican and while I love Colombo's, even I am frequenting them less and less these days. I typically order the house turkey or oven roasted turkey and to this date have gotten at least 4 different types- there's no consistency. Additionally no matter what time I order, for example I ordered at 11 am today and it was still 25 minutes for 2 sandwiches, it even looked like a ghost town when I went to get my food too! Not just lack of customers but shelf items as well. They also have gotten my very plain turkey and cheese sandwich wrong no matter how I order it, online or phone. Today was a phone order and the two sandwiches had their bread choices switched. I don't even feel confident catering business meetings because lack of consistency. To add insult to injury $15/sammie is getting a little steep. I love deli sandwich as much as the next person but just to compare, I went to Molinari's last week and paid the same, actually a little less for the perfect sandwich with twice as much meat. I LOVE Colmobos, but they have really gone way downhill since the new owners came in and more importantly unfortunately their ordering process has been horrific and is totally frustrating experience since the pandemic. They used to have Boar's Head meats which are the absolute BEST meats and they got rid of those. What made Colombos the best sandwich shop in the Bay Area was the highest quality meats and now they no longer use Boars Head which is a total bummer. I hope they bring that back! Secondly, since the pandemic they've moved all ordering to online and often the system they force you to use does not have the options needed to customize your sandwich. Want BBQ sauce, as another reviewed noted? Well, too bad because there's no way to do that in the system. If certain things need an upcharge (for example if you want extra cheese) and that isn't allowed in the system well too bad even if you want to pay for it you can't. Also, sometimes I am driving and want to just order my sandwich on the phone or just go order it in person and now there's no way to do walk in or phone orders. So frustrating. If you want a hot sandwich, the app online ordering system will give you some crazy time like it will be ready in an hour and a half, so even if you go pick it up in an hour an half when it says it's ready for pick up well it will have been made beforehand and sat around so now not only is your hot sandwich cold but it's been sitting there getting soggy in the meantime. I love and support local businesses and I really hope that this beloved local sandwich shop can fix these issues with their ordering process and also so that you can get hot sandwiches when you want them made instead of based off what some online system predicts it will be ready. read more

It can get busy and calling ahead is a good idea. We tried the Steak Sandwich. It's grilled steak with mayo, house made toasted garlic spread n caramelized onions on a fresh sourdough. It's a huge sandwich loaded with meat that we opted to share. At $8.99 + tax it's worth every penny. They carry practically every sinful stuff that a hungry belly or mouth would want. Sausages, chocolates and their sandwich menu is no joke either! It's a whole wall worth! There's only a few tables inside. But I noticed that most locals order to go. Colombo's sits in a strip mall that offers great parking. Awesome! No nonsense fast service. I noticed the staff wash their hands constantly in between customers before they make their orders.
