I stopped here for a couple beers and to grab some food because it was a bookmark. The place was pretty empty at lunch time but it was a Monday. The place is a good kind of dive bar because it looks old with lots of wood. I would have a summer shanty and a third space for my beer options which were ok on a lazy Monday. The menu isn't large but it has all the usual suspects as far as bar food goes and I would get a burger that comes with frys. I ordered the Good A Burger rare which is bacon, jalapeños and Gouda cheese just because I have not seen that combination before. The burger looked good with lots of frys. The frys were hot cooked to order and seasoned nicely. The burger was good on a fresh toasted bun and as rare as you could get with the thin patty that was somewhat juicy. The beef had a nice grill flavor that complemented the bacon nicely but the jalapeños were can/jar and not fresh. Overall I can't complain about anything because the service was good and the food was fresh and hot on a lazy Monday afternoon. read more

I've had Colonel Hart's plenty of times when my office has ordered food to go for lunch, but today was the first time I stopped there to dine in and I happened to have my family with me. My wife and I both ordered the turkey club sandwich, one kid got a cheeseburger and one got a grilled cheese. The kids like their meals. Yay. The problem is both my wife and I had mold on the bread for our club sandwiches. The bartender was super apologetic, said our meal was free, made a point to explain that they have more bread available downstairs, then asked if there was anything else we wanted. We both said no, assuming he meant something else while we waited for our food to be remade or a different item completely. Almost half an hour passed by and I got tired of waiting for our remade food, so I flagged the bartender down. Apparently he took us saying no as we didn't want anything at all because they never bothered to start remaking our food. Our kids were already done with theirs and were getting bored, so we just left even more frustrated and hungry than necessary. I was also super embarrassed because I talk up how good their food is and this experience makes neither of us want to stop back again. Guess I'll not be ordering the turkey club for work lunches anymore either now that it's clear they don't sell enough to turn over their supply of bread before it gets moldy. read more

What I love about Hart's is that is hasn't changed. I used to frequent here more often when I lived in Tosa, but just stop by once in awhile now. The decor hasn't changed at all, the food is still good bar food, the pizza is good (1/2 off on Saturdays and Sundays), the bartenders are friendly. Not much else to say but I recommend you check it out! There's a parking lot and street options when it's busy. read more

Very solid neighborhood / dive bar in the downtown tosa area. I frequently go here and the service is very good, they have a good selection of beer and liquor and solid bar food and it's super reasonably priced. Lots of daily specials for both food and drinks.. They're definitely different from the other tosa bars in a good way - more relaxed and unpretentious. This isn't the place to go if you want an extensive wine or cocktail list. They have a small patio which is dog friendly and a private parking lot. read more

We absolutely love Colonel Hart's. The service is great, the space is always clean and they have super bar food. They have off-street parking which is a hot commodity in the village, and a nice fenced outdoor patio. They love pups so I always feel comfortable bringing Porkchop to hang out with us outside. Decided to check this place out based on a few reviews stating it's 'some of the best pizza in Milwaukee.' Based on the street-front, it actually looks like a pretty nice place. On the inside, however, you get a pretty standard dive bar appeal. Nothing against it, if that's your cup of tea. We came on a Friday and decided to split a pizza and fish fry. The pizza is basically the same as a Tombstone pizza that you could get in the frozen aisle at your local grocer. Pretty darn average. Beer selection was average as well. Average prices. Pretty much everything about the place is average with one key exception, the fish fry. We got the perch and it was pretty darn good. The fries were over salted and thus fall under the aforementioned umbrella of 'average.' But the perch, the perch saved this place from a two star. All in all, I won't return but if you live near the place and like dive bars with average bar food this may be your spot. Also pretty heavy on 80s soft rock, if you're into that. Pizzas are half price on weekends which should put them at about the same price as they are frozen at Pick N Save. read more

My favorite place for beer, pizza & trivia on Sunday late night. Colonel Hart's offers different specials all week long, Sunday is $2 buck Mickey's & half price pizza. The fresh made pizzas are phenomenal ( for $6 bucks ) & come with your choice of toppings. The crust is on the thinner side. But, satisfying & tasty . Thursday is another good night to go for the wing special. The wings are awesome & come in a variety of flavors. Drinks are priced fairly & the selection is vast. Two dart boards in the rear & NTN Buzztime trivia to test your knowledge. Approximately 20 spots in the parking lot & plenty of street parking. The décor is dated but eclectic. read more

I really owe the Colonel an update - my first visit was a number of years back and wasn't good. Since then, we've been back a few times and had really good experiences. It's definitely a dive (as far as Tosa bars go) - the crowd is generally older than what you'll normally see at Leff's, so that means a lot less bro's/chatches. There's wood paneling, sports memorabilia, TV's to watch the game and a small patio for nice weather and smokers. They have a small menu (think burgers, sandwiches and deep fried stuff) but most people will want to order pizza which is handmade. They're actually pretty good and well priced for $10 - go on Wednesdays and pizzas are just $5. Drinks are strong and CHEAP - like $5 for a tall, very well made old fashioned. Bartenders are super nice too! What else...the ladies room is tiny but pretty clean, there is a jukebox (why, oh why do people insist on playing Country Hick Hop and Nickleback???) and there's a parking lot. It took a little time, but Colonel Hart's grew on me - check them out when you want to have a good time and not spend a lot of cash. read more

I haven't been in for a while, but our most recent visit just hit the mark. My husband and I stopped in on Thanksgiving night for a quick bite and the Packer game. Being a holiday, the crowd was small,but they were serving food, so we were very happy. We ordered the 1/2 nachos for $5.00. The half order is huge and the only size you should order unless you are feeding the entire softball team, I mean it, no joke. For bar nachos, they are great....ground beef taco meat, neon yellow cheese, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, salsa, and sour cream piled mile high. The burgers are also basic but yummy. The bacon cheeseburger with fries is cheap at $6.75. Come for the specials too, especially half price apps on Wednesdays. All in all, a fun time was had by all. We visit Colonel Hart's each Sunday after our Basketball games down the road and its wonderful! We are promptly greeted by the lovely waitresses/bartenders and brought some water. She continues each week to be attentive and helpful and now she is willing to join in our sassy banter which I love! We typically get pizza because it is half off on Sunday's which makes it a STEAL! It looks similar to a frozen pizza but she makes them fresh herself to order so you can essentially get whatever you want on it and they are yummy! We have also had the cheese curds and onion peels. Both were good to me! Overall, I am going to keep going. I have also heard they have great tacos and as they were cooking the meat while we were in there on Sunday I think I will have to make it back to try them out. Is there such a thing as an upscale dive bar? If so, this is it! This place is great!! The bar, the atmosphere, the jukebox. I rate the food as great bar grubbage. The wings were good and they would be much higher rated if they'd not been overcooked and masked by a pretty awesome house sauce. Nonetheless I'm giving the kitchen a pass on this one as I have high hopes for this place's wings and I'm of the attitude that maybe it was an off night. Next time I'm definitely ordering a pizza as I watched dozens of them pass by my me smelling of crusty pizza goodness. Colonel Hart's is fine by me! Finally visited here after playing in an intramural league and was immediately impressed by the service. We were greeted promptly and from there it only improved. Our server is the sweetest and very attentive. We ordered pizza because it was half off and like other reviewers said, it's the same vibe as a frozen pizza, but definitely not a frozen pizza. They build the pizza themselves and there is a great amount of toppings. You really can't beat the price for that. Their cheese curds are also a win, as well as the onion peels. I like that they're a little unique compared to onion rings. All in all you can't beat the value, and it's a friendly establishment which goes a long way. Worst service I've ever had in my life. I have vistited 3 times in the past 2 months, really wanting to give this place a shot since they have good specials. The cook is a complete jerk (food was good, but he was literally a jerk). The bartender Jared went outside (I assume for a smoke) and didn't return for 20 minutes (I timed it). When I got his attention he said, just a second...then proceded to wipe down all empty tables in the bar (the bar was very dead) rather than take care of the CUSTOMER's need. The time before, the bartender was nice (female) but very slow. The cook was rude and constantly mumbling and making bitter faces. When I asked for a box, he snotily said "I'm busy" yet continued to converse with another customer...clearly his buddy. The time before that, we went for the taco special....they ran out of beef halfway through the time the special was supposed to be available. With all the amazing competition in East Tosa, on that same street, this place needs to step it up or they will never survive. I love this bar! It's got a corner bar vibe, and lots of their customers are regulars. They offer daily specials on food and drinks. Happy hour is Monday-Friday 2pm-6pm and features $1 mugs of domestic and $2 rail cocktails. Wednesdays, they do an extended happy hour til 8pm. How many $1 Miller Lites could I squeeze in from 2-8pm?! The food is totally decent! As far as bar food goes, I definitely recommend it! They offer all the usual suspects: appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, chicken wings and homemade pizzas. Saturdays and Sundays, they've got half price pizza, and I love it!! They use fresh ingredients, plus they add this garlic spray that's like magic. If I'm ever there on a Saturday or Sunday, I can't help but get a half price pizza. I like it so much that I don't mind paying full price for it during the week. They even offer it late. They do a late night menu 10pm-close that has a few items like chicken strips, pretzel bites, garlic bread and their homemade pizza. The staff is always awesome! Come and knock on my door, we'll be waiting for you.... We stopped here recently for lunch. My husband won a gift certificate in a raffle and we decided to give it a shot. Upon stepping into this place, the thought crossed my mind this was a bar that was "stuck in the 70's." Visions of "Three's Company" danced through my head. I thought for a brief second I mistakenly set foot in the Regal Beagle. I think I saw Mr. Roper wearing a blue leisure suit, hanging out at the corner of the bar with Jack, Chrissy, Janet, and most importantly - Larry. This seems to be a "Larry" kind of bar. It didn't surprise me, considering the clientele for this particular day seemed to be out of that age bracket. Back in the day, I'm sure the same people that were there on Saturday used to hang out with their polyester shirts hanging open to expose all possible chest hair, and their gold chains-a blingin'. Wood paneling, multicolored hanging pendant table lamps ala 1977, creepy ladies room.... yep, got it. It seemed quite busy for a Saturday - and they had ONE guy working. When the bartender actually came by, we ordered our drinks. We waited another 20 minutes to get them, and then we were able to order. When our order finally got out (and let me stress the word "finally") to our table, it wasn't anything to write home about. I got a grilled chicken sandwich, which was served on a limp bun...not much more to elaborate on that. Yikes. It was pretty disappointing. The fries looked pretty gross, but since I can't eat fries, it didn't really matter. They did not offer any substitutions for fries on the side so I got stuck with just my sandwich. Now I know what I was missing. The place was packed with people having a good time, so for that, they get a couple of stars. This place just isn't for me. It smelled of cheap cologne, glitter perfume, and desperation. It looked like a place where you should probably drink your natty-ice directly from the bottle and use the pull down toilet seat covers to cover the stall floor when you are on your knees hunched over the porcelin throne extricating the 12 shots of Sex on the Beach and Jeager bombs from your upper GI tract. If this sounds like your kind of place and you're in the Tosa area, then come on down! If not, trek about 100 yard east and go to Leff's. read more

Thursday is the day to go to Colonel Hart's. The buffalo wings are off the hook -- and on Thursdays they are 35 cent each! Go before 6 and Miller lites are $1. Can't really beat that... Caution - the mild wings are preeettty spicy. Don't get medium or hot if you are a spice wimp like me. Most of the bartenders are nice (including Jared) but some are not. Oh well. I'm writing a review of Colonel Hart's because Yelp won't stop asking me to. Lived near the CH for about 2 years before moving this summer. I've been there quite a few times and had mixed experiences. (I even smoked my last legal indoor cigarette there last year, just out of spite for the new smoking ban in bars -- which I secretly love anyway). Hart's has nice outdoor seating, but it could have more space which would be nice. I did get berated by a cocktail waitress once and that was kind of an ugly situation. Our group spent about $250 on beer (and for Hart's, that's probably the sale of the century) and I jokingly said to the server, "the next round's on you, right?" and everyone was laughing and having a good time until she freaked the hell out -- literally screamed at me because that was the "worst sin" I could have committed in a bar. 30 years old, who knew? The whole thing was awkward for everyone within a fifty foot radius. For the record, the bartenders have always been more than generous and that waitress I never saw again, so I'll assume that was an isolated incident. Harts gets 4 stars for being Harts. It's like the divest dive bar in the area but a much welcomed alternative to the db's that frequent Leff's after Brewers games in the summer. Will I ever go back now that I don't live near there? Probably not. But I will remember the fond memories of stumbling the half mile home during my rowdier days...Ah, Harts... read more

We went recently for $0.35 chicken wings. The wings were very good. They had mild, medium, and hot, and all of them came with a tomato based sauce. The hots are deceiving, because they had less sauce then the rest. Regardless, they were hot, but not ridiculous. We sat in a back booth with a larger than average group, and our servers (must have got them mid-shift) were both nice. One cool thing: I ordered a tap that the server told me about. She came back, and told me that they no longer had that beer on tap. She brought me a different kind of beer from the same company, and she didn't even charge me for it. Along with the wings, we ordered the fries, which were outstanding. I like the place, and I like the atmosphere. There is a lot of really cool, really old sports memorabilia. It would be nice to see them clean a lot of that stuff up, and really display it in a way that people can appreciate it. I think this place is divey in just the right sort of way. I have been meaning to try Colonel Hart's for a while, since we moved to Washington Heights two years ago. I was not disappointed! A buddy and I went in to catch up and grab some wings on their wing night (Thursdays). They were fantastic. The sauce on their wings is so good! Not your typical greasy orange but a homemade red with chilies in it, great amount of heat without being stupid hot. The employees are really nice and the prices are fantastic. Colonel Hart's is a mix of Cheers and any Wisco bar. Tvs, tables with historic news, lively people from all walks of life just having a good time. Be sure to check out their special of the night, they are always fantastic and their happy hour beer specials cannot be beat!! But seriously, shhhhh keep this place a secret!!! read more

I heart Hart's...it's my local watering hole. A new patio and facade on the front of the building give this dive bar a touch of class, and the wood paneled inside reminds me of a long lost uncle's basement. Great specials, 1/2 price pizza and wings are my favorites. Nice selection of local brew and plenty of spirits to go around. leave your heels and popped collars downtown peeps - this is not the establishment for you to have a dance party in or practice looking like you're from Jersey Shore. In Chicago I am constantly being dragged to dive bars by my friends. They like them for some reason and are always in search of the latest and greatest dive bar. In Milwaukee they don't call them "dive bars", they just call them bars. And Colonel Hart's is one of those bars. I was here for some cocktails with my former classmates over the weekend and I enjoyed myself. The inside is kind of dumpy, but it's got that Wisconsin charm. My friends and I call it Colonel Lonely Hart's, sort of mashing it up with the title of the Beatle's album. It's An enjoyable, laid back place to talk with friends, or catch a NBA playoff game. Colonel Hart's helps to create a corner bar facet to the Tosa Village nightlife. It consistently smells like frozen pizzas cooking and has a great jukebox. Tap pitchers are reasonable and their are pretty good specials, I remember a Tecate one specifically(Thursday nights maybe?) As far as a date place, it's a good one-two punch pairing with Cafe Hollander across the street. If a date is going super well stay at Cafe Hollander and enjoy the more expensive drink list. If it's not going so well, meander over to Colonel Hart's, maybe the somewhat vast change in setting will help spark something. And if it doesn't, at least it won't vastly change the weight of your wallet. read more

Lunch Time Review I've been to Colonel Hart's specifically during the day for lunch. I was told they have a good burger and I can safely say they do. If you hate reading I would give it a straight 3. Now onto the breakdown. Colonel Hart's is an odd recommendation as I got it from someone I always associated with higher end restaurants. This could be safely classified as a casual/divey bar in Tosa. They have good customer service from my personal experience. I've been here a number of times and have never been disappointed. Have you ever read my Stack'd Review? The time we walked out we came to Colonel Harts. Why? They are two completely different joints. This isn't a gourmet burger here. But that doesn't stop it from being good. They advertize a Kobe option and those of you reading my reviews know what is coming next (http://www.forbes.com/sites/larryolmsted/2012/04/12/foods-biggest-scam-the-great-kobe-beef-lie/). I am sure the price should make you ask "How is this a Kobe Burger?" at $7.75 That said it is usually cooked to order. Mediums have been medium and done's have been done. I do have a friend that reported an error in what he was served but that must have been an isolated incident. When grabbing a side you should really stick with the chive fries. The combined items are on the greasier side and have that tendency to slow you down. It's hard to describe what you are getting here. It's a step up from fast food options that's for sure but it's not in the same category with burgers that would be considered top tier. Somewhere in that chasm of inbetween is where you find this burger. For the price it's not bad. They do a good job and over all you are getting a tasty burger. If you are on the look out for a different burger I would recommend this to add to your list. If you are solely looking for a gourmet burger or a higher end burger then look elsewhere. It's a regular bar with slightly better then average burgers. Not good enough to merit the 4 star. Other food items have been listed as acceptable when I've discussed with other people. It was always a "good" and I never had anyone tell me "Great" "awesome" or anything like that. The pizza appears to be average bar style pizza and nothing to comment on for the pizza list. Probably worthy of a 3 star. If you are in the area and want a good burger then you can get that here at acceptable prices in a "come as you are" type atmosphere. Joints like these are nice to have if you are in the area. The crowd has been younger during the day and I cannot comment on the nightlife. Perhaps stick to other reviews for that. read more

My husband and I stopped in here recently with some friends who are regulars. We had a very nice experience. The bartender was pleasant and made sure we were taken care of. They have a lovely outdoor patio that is nice for a warm summer evening. I would definitely recommend coming in here on a Sunday night if you aren't a big fan of crowds. The atmosphere on a Sunday night is pretty laid back. I highly recommend their pizzas.They are freshly made and they are amazing! Even better: they are half price on Sundays (another reason to come in then). If you are a trivia buff, they have trivia on Sunday nights also. In the past I have touted the delicious home made pizza created here. It's always half priced on weekends but only good depending on the mood of the bartender in charge. One in particular has quite the mood swings. Most recently a beer we ordered was slammed down in front of us leaving a puddle. Then the pizza we ordered on a separate recent occasion the sausage was literally thrown into the middle of the crust leaving almost nothing around about 2 inches of the pizza. So sorry I did not get a picture of it. It makes me not want to go there for pizza at least when he is there. Some new blood has been hired. It gives me some hope. read more

It was small as was their appetizers and basically is a boring bar. no other way to put it and the only positive thing I can say about this bar was it has booths like a traditional restaurant.
