Moved to Milwaukee about a month and a half ago. Starting to go out more and go on more bar and restaurant adventures. The qualifier to this review is that I don't drink but I found myself in a bar for a Yelp Elite event that did not happen. So I figured I would check it out. The decor is campy. I mean like a camp deep in the woods. Many taxidermy animals throughout. Pop music plays at a volume that is actually good for conversation. A couple of large screens show the game of the day. The service is fast - I observed. There is a non alcoholic menu with favs like Old fashioned and Moscow Mule. Now If I am gonna go to a place that doesn't have any prices on the menu, then I am going for leisure and to have fun with friends. Stopped at Camp Bar Tosa for a drink and had a good time! The holiday drinks were great and very festive. I had the "naughtier spice" which was great and my partner had the "White Christmas" which was also tasty and very strong. I always like to stop here during the holiday and this year didn't disappoint. There are so many lights and decorations it gets you in the Christmas spirit almost right away. The drinks this year weren't as good as previous years but they were still enjoyable, especially the Santa panties shots we did. We also ordered some apps which were just ok, hoping they add some new things this coming year. So I randomly came across this place online looking for date night ideas in milwaukee. I was soooo excited to see a bar did holiday decor closer to home because the only ones I have seen are in Chicago. We have never been to this bar during the regular (not holiday) season. The whole place is decked out in Christmas decor including every inch filled with holiday lights. When you first walk in it's almost overwhelmingly magical (not to sound cheesy) but the place was PACKED and I didn't see if slowing down anytime soon. We walked through and grabbed one open table because we didn't really know the flow or know that the waitresses would be walking through just waiting on everyone. Our waitress seemed a little distracted. She asked if we were ready to order and we said yes and she said ok and then walked away. When she came back she took our drink orders and then ended up coming back because she forgot what one of us ordered. Then she came back saying our drinks were going to take a few minutes because they were down to one bartender which I really hope was a lie because the place was so busy I felt bad for that one person. At this point we asked her to bring the bill when the drinks came because we had only about 1 hr 15 min total at the bar until our dinner reservations elsewhere. It took about 35 min to get our beverages. I am not complaining, they were extremely busy and I was truly there for the experience and ambiance. I'd like to come back here maybe a little earlier and have more time just to relax and enjoy just being there. One thing I would change is between the people and all of the lights I would maybe almost have the air conditioner running because it was extremely toasty inside. read more

I'm decidedly a fan of Camp Bar. I've been to their location in Shorewood, but recently had my first experience at their Tosa location. Their camp theme reminds me so much of Idaho (where I lived prior to moving to Milwaukee. There, it wouldn't be considered a theme bar...but, just, you know...a bar) that it never fails to give me warm fuzzies. This location is expansive and just as abundantly camp-tastic as their Shorewood locale. They have a nice selection of beers and cocktails. Their cocktails are basic but solid (ie: we're not talking creative craft cocktails, but decent, solid mixing is definitely going on). This spot is definitely on and poppin'. Which, is to say, they're busy! And, rightfully so. Exemplary service and solid cocktails served in a fun environment. Definitely fandom. Get to it! read more

I remember that their old fashioned was pretty good and I was very surprised by the pizza here as it was also pretty darn good! Tl:dr great bar in Tosa with a taxidermy animal and "Up North" vibe Camp bar is pretty self explanatory in the name - the inside makes you feel like you're on a camping trip. For those of us that hate camping, enjoying the flannel/giant bear mounts and random camp, hunting and fishing equipment in the luxury of a building is a big plus. I've had good Old Fashions there - they have an entire half list of all different kinds (Rock&Rye, The Local and Maple Leaf all good!) as well and some fun signature drinks (try the Camp Fire if you have sweet tooth!) Enjoyed the "Pints for Pups" events that have been hosted here, as it has a beautiful outdoor patio that is dog friendly, it also features fire place and a rooftop area with additional seating. Three total locations - Third Ward, Shorewood and Tosa. I've been to all three and am biased to Tosa. Probably a mixture of great staff and it's where some cool peeps are! read more

They have one of those little QR code menus and let me tell you, they shouldn't even bother. "Loaded tots" come in either sour cream & onion flavor or cheese curd..... I didn't exactly understand what that meant but I found out! It's a frozen grocery store item that they heat up and serve to you in a teeny tiny little paper boat. It's like a stuffed tot ball and it sucks. My friend ordered what looked like Dino-nuggets served with a plastic dressing packet. I'm told the pizzas they have are good because they actually order them from a place nearby. We are flat landers up from Northern Illinois and alway love coming to Wisconsin. It was our first visit to 'Tosa and we loved it! We stumbled upon the Camp Bar since they had a shuttle to and from Summerfest. We patronized them 2 nights and it was a lot cheaper than a DUI and worth every penny. The establishment is too cool. The lodge feel is amazing and would love to return when we are up to our keisters in snow. The décor is fabulous and the staff was friendly. We will be back. Went to Camp Bar to watch a Saturday Badger game and have drinks with friends. I've come here numerous times before to watch sports events and have drinks. Atmosphere is cozy and lively, always busy. Place is clean and drinks are good and reasonably priced. Plenty of large TV's around so you'll always have a decent view of whatever game is on. However, they've recently added items to their menu. In the past we've had their Cranky Al's pizza which has been a great snack. Today we ordered the chicken tender basket and were disappointed. The breading was not flavorful or even close to crispy as you would expect from chicken tenders. Honestly, they looked like they were probably microwaved. Service was attentive as we were often asked if we needed anything or refills on our drinks. Once ordered, drinks came to our table promptly. Badgers won. read more

We went yesterday for the 1st day of Summerfest to hook up a shuttle and the bus broke down so they offered a free drink, then after said they're working on another plan - (some people drank and left for the other places nearby offering same). We stayed a bit and low and BEHOLD! they got another driver, nicest guy ever for the shuttle run and we got to go anytime we wanted to - so we stayed for another drink had a pizza and left for the festival. They were so apologetic, anxious to help, great drinks and food and reasonably priced. If you haven't been, the ambiance is very cool - UP NORT' ya der hey!!!! Can I just tell you how excited I am that Camp Bar opened up a Tosa outpost????? 'Cause I'm pretty excited - Tosa really doesn't have good "bars". Sure, there's Leff's for the bros/chatches and Club Tap and Walters when you feel like getting a DUI and/or social disease but there was a huge gap that Camp Bar fills nicely. So we were headed to dinner at Hue and noticed (with delight!) that Camp Bar was finally open. After dinner, we stopped in to find a fairly packed bar with almost every table full. Just like the Shorewood location, the interior is full of hand hewn wood beams, up north kitsch and taxidermy. The angry bear in the corner of the bar is my favorite! There's a cozy private room, a fireplace and even a cool patio space. Despite the crowds, we were able to get drinks (both at the bar and via table service) pretty quickly. Camp Bar does a mean cocktail - there's a good 8-9 varieties of the classic old fashioned plus mojitos, margaritas and a very respectable Milwaukee Mule. Prices for cocktails are generally in the $7-8 range. I was pretty impressed at how smoothly things were running on opening night. The interior is gorgeous, the drinks are good and service is prompt. You know I'll be the Dutchess of Camp Bar in short order! EDIT: Camp Bar is also dog friendly! Where were we? Oh right, East Tosa on a quiet Sunday night, bound and determined to check out a new place and break out the 2015 city tins. So the outside and inside of this place is pretty cozy and inviting. Its been meticulously decorated inside to look like an up north lodge (but in a nice, sort of wilderness lodge sort of way.) There's kitschy animals holding beer cans, a lot of cozy booths, and a big bar with the welcome addition of outlets to charge your phone hidden under the bar. They've got an awesome beer list, and while I know many people think they are pricey for drinks i thought they were pretty average. They've got a thoughtful menu of old-fashioneds that are $5 for a large portion of Friday night. (Whiskey and brandy are my least favorite liquors so this is sort of wasted on me, but if you like old fashioneds these are good.) You can get pizza that they make on site (pizza provided by cranky al's down the street.) It was super quick, hot. Delicious and reasonably priced. I'm personally never thrilled when I've gone "up north" so I'm not rushing to have the concept brought closer to me in tavern form. But that's just me. The place seems to work well in tosa (if I was close enough to walk here my feelings would probably be very different), they've done an awesome job decorating, have a great beer and drink list, and seem to have attracted a nice following in the neighborhood (including some well behaved canines.) It's like gong up north without the pesky five-hour drive among speeding and reckless flatlanders. This place is a great anchor to Wauwatosa's East North Avenue corridor. It's rustically decorated with a good variety of draft beers and numerous big-screen TVs. It's a perfect place for watching sports, but make sure you arrive early on big game days--it fills up in a hurry. Also, the patio is dog friendly, so bring Fido. Camp Bar Tosa is a cozy little spot. I went there for a hangout with future classmates and had a great time. The outside patio has plenty of seating available. During the outing, I ordered the Cadillac margarita + the Buffalo chicken pizza. The pizza was enormous. I split it with 2 other friends. It's nice that the pizza is a flatbread because you feel better about eating so many slices. Onto the drunks, the margaritas were very smooth. Sweet taste with just enough salt on the rim. It's lodge appearance is camp like with critters and taxidermy mounts solid beams above transformed this building into a log cabin with a little imagination. Large comfy seating all around. Service 5 fast friendly from Zack and Brad. Waitstaff are excited for the new location and happy to serve. Location 4 street parking ugh. but not impossible to find. With a short 1-2 block walk. Value 4 plenty of weekly specials. The drinks are spendy and it goes with the the decor. You know designers and decorators are not cheap. Signature drinks $7-$10 range.
