2nd review. 3 years ago I left a glowing review about Colonial. Chas Kubrick is AMAZING!! They were professional, the construction team did a fabulous job and I think I only found 3 nails. I purchased the upgraded roof and upgrade to beautiful Hardie siding. Fast forward and I'm leaving a 1 star review. Why? Because they only warranty their work product for 2 years a little but important fact that must have been in the contract and I missed. It certainly wasn't spoken. I recall reviewing the Hardie as well as the CertainTeed Roof warranties but nothing about a 2 year warranty from Colonial. Given that information would I have chosen a different company? Of course! I have 2 major problems, a leak inside of my sunroom as well as a problem with the siding which has destroyed a window and French door. A technician came out for the door and explained the when the siding was installed on the deck, they failed to do the flashing. And well, you can see in results in the pictures. When contractors come to provide estimates without missing a beat, each says I shouldn't be having these problems after 4 years and that Colonial should repair. I explain the 2 year clause and they laugh. So, here we are, either file a claim with the roof and siding manufacturers, pay out of pocket OR file a claim with my insurance company. Each option sucks because I went with a company which doesn't provide an actual warranty for their work product. Don't be me, be better. read more

Really great company to deal with! We were hit by the hail storm a couple years ago and contractors were everywhere trying to get business. Colonial was professional and responsive. Sent out their teams and got right down to repairs. Dealt with the insurance company and everything. read more

We're thrilled with our new roof thanks to Colonial Remodeling! State Farm originally only agreed to pay for half of our roof after the wind storm in March. After two separate failed attempts to argue the quote, we found Ken and Colonial Remodeling. Ken submitted a thorough quote, complete with pictures and the appropriate building code references. Overall, we were happy with Colonial Remodeling. Adam, our sales representative, was fantastic, as were the workers that came into our home to fix our bay window. However, I cannot say the same for Eliud, the project manager. He was unresponsive and uncommunicative for weeks in between work being done, and if it was not for Adam, our bay window would still not be complete. read more

Hired Colonial Remodeling to take care of many things after a hail storm. They were great at acquiring our business and dealing with the insurance company. There was a major hiccup during the roofing job and the subcontractor they were using. It took a while, but the problem was rectified..... and Colonial is doing everything they can to make the rest of the job go smoothly including good communication, regular check-in, and earning back our trust by going above and beyond the norm. read more

I had the roof of my house replaced due to the windstorm back in March. Vince, the sales agent, was very good and explained everything to me in detail since it was the first time I had a roof replaced. The roofers did a good job as well. The only problem I have is that the company owner refuses to accept credit cards as a payment -- accepting only checks (or cash in a briefcase, I guess!). Since this is such a large purchase, I wanted to at least earn frequent flyer miles/cash back on one of my credit cards but the owner only allows credit card payment if the customer is willing to pay the 4% credit surcharge. How a company as large as Colonial Remodeling has to pay such a high surcharge for credit purchases is beyond me. It was my mistake as I had assumed that I could pay by credit card and I'll know next time to find that out upfront. The company was recommended to me by two different people that had work done on their houses but that jobs like mine (a 1700 sq foot house) and were not the kind they usually want to do as my roof clocked in at about $5,600 and they usually only want do jobs that are $10,000 or more. But I had checked with a few other roofing companies and Colonial's estimate was fair and I trusted their work due to other's recommendations. The work was good, I am not faulting that. Just the payment method. With refusing to accept credit card payments, it does mean that some homeowners won't be able to use their services as they may have to resort to paying their portion financed on a monthly basis by a credit card if they can't get a HELOC. But as said, the company doesn't really want small jobs. By the way, the company owner also owns the Winery at Bull Run. read more

Colonial Remodeling LLC has poorly responded to multiple request (email and calls) to fix a leak in my roof. 2017 they installed a new roof and gutters on my house. I currently have a leak in three areas in the roof and no one has even responded or been helpful at all. Labor and materials are still under warranty. This is not a good business practice if they can't even respond. read more

Terribly rude. I bought a home that had the roof replaced by this company only a few years ago and it already has a leak. I called them and first spoke to a nice woman that said she would have someone call me back to schedule to come out and take a look. I waited 2 days and had to call back. The woman that I spoke with when calling back, Elizabeth, was extremely rude. She didn't even want to give me her name, and cut me off numerous times. She said no one would come out and that the project manager would call me. Two weeks later and not even one call back. I will be sure I never recommend this company and will never use them for any of my houses. Most companies stand by their work and would at least come out to take a look, even if they had to give me an estimate to fix the issue. Apparently not this company. As rude as the woman was that I spoke with, she may have never even told the project manager. I'll be sure to leave my review/experience anywhere I can. I would not recommend this company! read more

Very disappointed, work was done incorrectly!! Work was not finished, Michael Hughes, the supervisor, left the subcontractors unsupervised, personal property damaged, personal property stolen. Company was recommended by a friend who was an attorney. Wish it was never done. Now, it is going to be very expensive to finish the job correctly. read more

Colonial Remodeling replaced the roof on my house over the summer. The roof itself seems to be fine -- good work, good quality, so, to be fair, two stars. Customer service was not great. We were told that the roofer would be in on Monday, but we found them dropping planks on our roof the Friday before. My son was the only one home and he nearly called the police. Then the building materials sat on the roof for upwards of a week before the workmen arrived to actually replace the roof. Furthermore, their price was $10,000 -- which I later discovered was nearly $3,000 more than they charged for a larger roof for a house across the street. They refused to provide me with a copy of the lifetime warranty. One and a half weeks ago (from today) I sent the final payment on this check, after which they were to provide me with the warranty. Still no dice. Not only that, though the check was marked as cleared this past Monday -- and through no fault of my own -- they threatened me with collection on my account, a lien on property, etc etc. I would stay away if I were you. read more

We needed our roof looked at due to a leak in our bathroom. Chas was prompt and very helpful. He explained all of our options and even walked us through on how to get our repair covered through our home insurance. We could not be happier with the service and the work that was done on our roof. No more leaks and that makes us happy! read more

Ken and Colonial Remodeling was recommended to us by friends when our insurance company threatened to drop us unless we replaced our roof. Any other company would have came out and given us an estimate siding with the insurance company to get paid but not Ken. He visited our home, did a thorough inspection of our roof and informed us the roof was not in the state the company was claiming. Ken really went to bat for us writing up a full report complete with several photos to send to our insurance company to help us fight the cancellation. Ken is quick, caring, efficient and above all, honest. Going forward, whenever we need any type of maintenance on our home we will look no further than Ken and Colonial Remodeling. read more

I contacted Colonial Remodeling in August of this year to replace the existing windows in the house I recently purchased. All of the windows in my house were original and none of them opened because of years of being painted over. Jon Hickox of Colonial met me at my house to for the initial meeting to discuss window replacement options, followed a few days later by one of his installers Eliud del Cid to take measurements. Eliud carefully measured all of my windows, which are numerous, 23 in all including a huge bay window. Jon worked with me to choose the right replacement windows for my budget and help me design the grid patterns. Even with the huge bay window, Jon was able to stay within my budget and get me energy efficient windows that would meet the standards of the government's tax credit program. The windows were manufactured within a week and the installation crew showed up bright and early on the morning I confirmed for install (which was based on my schedule, not theirs). Colonial's installation crew were professional and did a great job installing the windows on my house. As a last minute decision I purchased a new front entry door at Home Depot and Colonial's crew installed that for me as well, for a nominal increase in labor fees. Finding a trustworthy and experienced contractor is stressful in today's economy and I would highly recommend Jon Hickox and Colonial Remodeling. read more

I have been interested in James Hardie siding for quite awhile, and was referred to Colonial by a neighbor who recently had their siding replaced as well. High marks for Gabe Griffin and Colonial Remodeling on installing our new roof. I can't say enough good things about our experience and the job they did. Gabe was there every step of the way-- from meeting with us and explaining the process, to meeting with our insurance adjuster, to being available and responsive via text or email when we had questions, to making sure his roofing crew was happy and had all they needed while they were working, to making sure the job was done with great attention to cleanliness in our yard, to doing a great job on the new roof. It has now been inspected by our insurance company and given a thumbs up. Looks great! Additionally they did not charge more than our insurance company allowed for the roof replacement and gave us a free roof upgrade to architectural shingles. And most impressive of all was Gabe's honesty. It turned out that there were some materials they didn't need which we would've never known, and he credited us back several hundred dollars. Not many companies would do that if any!! I highly recommend Gabe and would not hesitate to hire Colonial Remodeling in the future. Thanks for doing a great job! We had Colonial repair our roof and siding after the derecho a few years ago. Now, due to their faulty workmanship, we have severe water and mold damage that begins on our second floor and goes all the way down to our basement. This will cost thousands of dollars to repair not to mention the possible health hazards due to the existing mold in the house now. I would stay away from this company at all costs. read more

Colonial contacted us after a hail storm to see if we wanted our siding and roof replaced.. knowing that our insurance would cover all but the deductible. The 3 stars are for the actual finished product, but the rest was horrible. They showed up a day early and we hadn't yet removed things from walls and shelves. Many precious items were broken beyond repair. We were not notified that they would be coming early. After they finished on one of the days, they left our back gates tied open and our small dog got out and was struck by a car...thankfully she is okay. They were supposed to come back early on a Saturday to finish the work, but showed up at 5pm and started pounded away. We had a dinner party at that time. Like I said the actual work was done just fine, but the rest.... will never work with then again!! read more

Avoid! I contracted these people for a major renovation. They sub-contracted the work out to the lowest bidders. Although Elliud and his siding crew had best intentions, many mistakes were made when installing the siding. When I pointed this out to the Colonial supervisor, Eugene Schwetz, he told me that he "didn't like my tone". Imagine! Is THIS the kind of customer care that you're looking for? If you contract this outfit, make sure that you're on-site to supervise. Mistakes will be made. However, this company made too many for me to ever consider them again. read more
