I came to this salon on May 2nd 2026. I was unhappy with my service and their response after I told them I was unhappy. I came into my appointment around 9:15am. My appointment was at 9:30am. My stylist was working on someone else's hair, doing a full on color right before my appointment. I had to wait 45 minutes to an hour before getting my hair done, despite my appointment. I brushed this off thinking it was fine, it really isn't. Stay on your appointment times. Not only that, I sent my stylist photos of how I want my hair to look before the appointment. I'll post the inspiration photos. By the end of my appointment, it did not look like my inspiration photos. I told my stylist, I didn't like the color, and I didn't like how my roots weren't blending in to the rest of my hair. Before this, she told me "I like how your hair gives off an ombré effect!" what ombré effect? My hair goes from completely dark to having some color. Then, she proceeded to tell me, "Sit in the color for a week, and if you still don't like it come back." Come back and do what? Pay another $250?? And I want to give some context: She did my roots, and my roots didn't lift after. But did she communicate why? Did she do anything to fix it afterwards? No! She didn't, despite my communications that I did NOT like how my hair looked. She could've told me that the integrity of my hair COULD NOT SUSTAIN the color I wanted. And THEN we could've done a different color. but instead I got absolutely no communication and walked out the salon. On top of that, I contacted the hair salon for a refund. They said they don't do refunds, but they do "solutions" to make it right. I was like ok, cool! They can do something about my terrible looking hair. I told them all my concerns, about how I just wanted my roots to look the same as the rest of my hair. They told me yeah sure, for about $145 more. I was confused, because I thought they did "solutions" to make it right, but instead I have to PAY, to make it right. And they proceeded to tell me I'm asking for a free service, and "we don't do that" That's so disgusting to hear. So disgusting to think I'm asking for a free service, when my stylist DID my roots, it did NOT pull through, and I just wanted my hair to be the same color? Is that too much to ask for? Then they proceeded to tell me, "I have been professional and kind in explaining the situation. I apologize you aren't happy with the outcome." It's not professional to say you've been kind, and then say "sorry" for the outcome. Absolutely disgusting behavior from this salon. Then they attempted to contact me to "make things right" again. Do you genuinely think I want a service from you after that interaction? No. Absolutely not. Finally, I walked into work on the monday of that week. I was posting on my story the day before my appointment talking about how excited I am to get my hair done! and my coworkers saw it. Then they saw me, and told me "your hair looks completely the same as before." Do NOT go to this salon. I strongly advise against everyone else going to it. I will attach my hair before, my inspo photos, and my hair after.

Overdue review for this salon and wish I could give a -0 stars. I wanted to spare any other potential customers from the worst experience my daughter had. She goes to school on the mainland and every break, when she comes home she requests for me to book her a hair appointment. Since we moved to the West side and have had one awesome experience here, I decided to book her a Hair Color Balance & Hair cut. The appointment was confirmed for Sunday, 21 Dec 2025 at 10:30AM with Cassidy Blaine K. Unciano. When my daughter was dropped off to the salon a few minutes before her appointment time, I failed to let her know that Cassidy was who she had an appointment with. Apparently, she was serviced by Angel Hoyle Kamakahi. From past experience, her hair services typically take two to two and a half hours max. However, this day was definitely not the norm and mind you it was a Sunday and she was the only customer there! By the time she was done, we were rung up a minute shy of 5 hours of my daughter sitting there with this stylist. Before the service started, my daughter showed her a picture of the color she wanted, which was chocolate brown. Unfortunately, the end result was her leaving there with red tints and no sign of it being chocolate brown as she requested. In addition, within the 5 hours she wasted away sitting there, she did not get a hair cut, which I requested for the appointment. When my daughter pointed it out, Angel started to get defensive about it and as she was ringing her up, she had an attitude and even before I could offer whatever tip I wanted to, she decided to not even take a tip. I had a hunch that the service would be a waste because when I came in around the two and a half hour point, Angel snarled at me asking if I had an appointment and when I told her I was there for my daughter, I sat down waiting. My daughter sent me a text to let me know that we could come back later to pick her up, which was another two and a half hours of waiting. Overall, this was not the service I had expected since the last time she went and was serviced by Kayla a few months prior, my daughter was extremely happy the way it turned out. This salon was a convenience, but had I known it would be an overall disaster, I could have saved myself $312.04. After a few days, I could tell that my daughter wasn't satisfied, so I decided to make it right and booked her at Dada Salon where I should have gone to begin with and save the $312.04 I wasted on the horrible service she got from Angel. Also, I received an automated email message soliciting for a vote for 2026 Best of Hawaii contest. After what we went through, with the message boasting that they won first place in 2025 Best of Hawaii with KITV Island News was hilarious!!! As a warning for all who are thinking about trying this place out, I would think twice. With that said, if I had to correct Angel's work at a more reputable salon, then you know what you'll be getting from this place. #neverwastingmymoneyhereagain

On August 18, 2026, I went to get my hair done at Color Box Hair Salon. I had an appointment with Ruby Billena at 12pm. I requested for an ash brown hair color, which required me to get my hair bleached. At around 12:15pm, she started the foil work for the bleaching process. By the time she was done, it was almost 2:30pm. Almost 2 hours of processing for different parts of my head. She used an assistant, who was in training to help do the foil work on my hair. This assistant had come back from a coffee run when my hair stylist asked her if she had done any foil work before, to which she answered, "no." My hairstylist, Ruby, then had her come over for training. She briefly went over the process and had the assistant start working on my hair alongside her. When the bleach would run out, the assistant would mix more bleach and developer into a bowl and resume working on my hair. I don't even know if this assistant is licensed or not, but that was her first time doing any bleach work and I am not a model. They finally finished the foil work 2 hours later, the bottom half of my hair at this point is over processed. 10 minutes into the top portion of hair being processed, my scalp started to burn. I told the hair stylist that my scalp was burning and she started to move the foil in different directions so that it wouldn't weigh too much onto my scalp. 2 minutes later, the problem was getting worse. I told her again that my scalp was burning. She took off the foil in the section pointed out to be burning and my hair was literally smoking. She told me we'd need to go over to the sink to wash the product off. The stylist then went to speak with her manager, Adrienne, on the side. They came back to to sink where the manager looked at my hair. She had a look of concern and told Ruby that the bottom of my hair was at a 10 and the top portion of my hair was processed at a 6ish/7. Also, that she can use another type of bleach to try to lift the color a bit more. After that, she ended up leaving the salon instead of explaining to me that my hair was pretty much damaged and they can't do anything to fix it at that point. She just walked out like nothing. Ruby, my stylist, told me that my hair was shocked and the only way to fix it was to come back and do a toner to match the darkest parts of my hair. She also told me that my hair (chemical reaction) reacted probably because she used the wrong developer (assistant mixed the last few bowls). Ruby then proceeded to bleach my roots, tone and do a deep condition. By the time, I got back to my seat, I saw how gummy my hair was. I touched it and it started breaking. My scalp was very sore from the chemical burns after she had washed it. My hair was all different colors. I came into that salon with long, thick black hair. I left the salon with less than half the hair I came in with. All my hair fell off and started breaking off from the roots. I left the salon very unhappy and they ended up charging me $418.85 for services and products used on my hair. Also, I had to purchase products from their salon to help with the damage costing me $31 each for the Keratherapy Shampoo and Conditioner and $28 for the leave in conditioner. I am pregnant with twins at 30 weeks. I went in that day to do something nice for myself for my birthday. I ended up staying at that salon for 9+ hours. I got there at 12pm and left around 9:30pm. Ruby told me she would schedule a free toner the next Tuesday to which I refused to go to because of the damage already done to my hair. I washed my hair on Friday and the amount of hair that I lost was so disappointing. I was instructed to air dry before I brush and style because my hair was so fragile that if I brushed it while wet, my hair would break right off. It took over 2 hours for my hair to dry. I ended up booking a consultation with Salon Allure to see what they can do to correct the damages. The 2 hair stylists were extremely surprised to see the state my hair was in and that they allowed me to walk out of that salon paying the amount that I did. I came back the next day and had the stylist, Yoyo, work on my hair. She had to do a pre toner, overall toner, filler for over processed hair, bonding treatment, re-bleach foil that was taken out early by previous stylist, color remover and a hair cut to remove the dead hair. This costed me $717.28. I called Color Box Salon once I was done with my corrections and asked for a refund for the amount paid to get my hair done at their salon and for them to also pay for my corrections for the damages done by their stylist and assistant in training. I spoke with the owner, Adrienne, who did not seem concerned one bit. She seemed very short and irritated on the phone. She told me that she knew I looked unhappy with my hair before she left the salon that day. She refused to pay for the corrections. Disgusting! Filed a RICO complaint with DCCA, OCP and will be taking them to court.

5 stars for Ruby! She freshened up my color and cut with the blue and once I wanted to change, she diligently got rid of the blue in my hair and gave me the copper color I've been wanting. I'm also in love with my cut! I was bored with straight bob so the wolf cut was just what I needed! Ruby also showcased a perfectionist attitude and refused to accept less when she needed to put extra effort in taking out my blue. Cannot recommend Ruby enough!

My experience was wonderful with Adrienne! My hair was a bit uneven coming in and she was totally professional about it. She really took the time to listen to me and my hair wants and possible concerns...and she executed it precisely how I imagined it. 10/10 recommend and I'll be back for sure.

I really liked my stylist I do want to say that she was very nice and very professional...but the quality of the products being used here at this salon is scary and not recommended. I have done many root touch ups at other salons and have never experienced a burning sensation on my scalp immediately when product is being applied. My stylist did wash off the dye soon as I told her what I was feeling and she did a swatch test on my hand to ensure the next dye she was going to use would not cause the same reaction which I appreciated very much. However, after leaving and going home for the day to shower I noticed that my scalp had red Burns all over my head under the hair, I also noticed I lost hair, and the dye stains all over under my bangs that were hidden were really noticeable. This was not a $150 plus tip service I got a root touch up and bangs cut and you can see the burns, the greys that are showing.. I really liked the stylist but the work I paid for and the result is not something anyone should ever experience at a salon. The stylist did mention this same reaction happened to another client recently.. so anyone looking to try this salon out beware that the burning sensation can cause burns to your skin and hair loss you won't notice unless you throughly check your whole head before leaving. No one walks into a salon and pays over $150 for this.. I would have been safer just doing it myself at home this salon owner needs to seriously evaluate the product that is being used

It's been years since I got my hair done. I went on today and I'm so glad I did. I was seen by Taylor today, was told she was new there, but she was great!! And she was super fast, which I loved! And the staff there is so friendly! I definitely will be coming back!! Update: I have to take one star away. When I came home and looked in the mirror? I saw that there was still hair color around my face!! I had to scrub it to take it off. Very disappointing. read more

While my hair wasn't fantastic; I was charged nearly $800. No one described or discussed prices for anything. My partner and I was extremely disappointed. Beware they use box color that washes out very quickly. How is bleaching half of the head of a buzz cut head justify $150? Why does the register not show the cost before deciding to add a tip? No one wants to pay a 25% tip on $800. We also didn't give you permission to post photos of us to use publicly. Nice staff, location, and interior, but subpar service. I had an appointment with Jaz and went in to get some low lights. I showed 6 photos of what I wanted-- very subtle brown highlights well blended into in my dark brown hair. Instead I got bleachy-looking streaks that are super light and not blended in with the rest of my hair at all. Very disappointing, especially considering I paid $300. This included a haircut which wasn't bad, but mediocre at best. I'm going to look for either a different stylist or salon. :( read more

6/10/2023 Hairstylist Kim : 5***** I had an appt for a haircut and it was amazing Kim did a great job in layering my hair. My hair was really long and I was scared to have someone touch it but after this experience and seen what Kim did to my hair I'm so happy. I can't recommend this salon enough. The new owner is the most talented, loving, and passionate humans you will ever meet. What I noticed is that the culture of the salon has been much improved with new talent and incredible stylists. All of the team truly does an amazing job. I have bleach blonde hair and living in the island the sun is super damaging but they always seem to keep my hair healthy and beautiful. Five stars for Desmond, who is a dream with all types of hair it seems. Four stars for the salon itself due to parking, harsh salon lighting, and inappropriate conversations in the back room, which was right behind the chair I was in. I was also a bit taken aback for the price of a single application, semi-permanent color, which was over $100 (it did make my hair feel wonderfully healthy again and it lasted about 6 weeks before my grays made an appearance again. Too pricey for me to maintain that often, however). But, back to Desmond! We've been on island for nearly seven years now and I've tried MANY salons. I have fine, thinning hair and have not found anyone who knew how to cut it. Truth be told, I have such hair envy living here! So I did a lot of Yelp sleuthing and came upon this salon and this stylist, who had rave reviews, with pictures to match, of shorter hair styles on finer hair. And I wasn't disappointed! Desmond did a great job keeping it real with the condition of my hair, the color recommendation, and the style best suited for me. I had only booked the cut, and he had another client waiting, but he still applied color and never made me feel rushed or as if I had inconvenienced him. I know that by coloring my hair he was making more money, but he never made me feel that was the reason he decided to do it. He gives an incredible head and neck massage on the wash and takes his time to dry and style. His "chair-side" manners were friendly and professional. I'll be back again for sure! read more

I was on the search for a new hair salon and I am so happy I found it! Raquel is so talented at what she does. The salon is clean and everyone is so friendly. Raquel is upfront and honest about desired results. She asks lots of questions and really takes time to understand what you want to achieve. I'm a baby boomer who prefers to color and highlight my grey hair about every 3-4 months. I'm so fortunate to have Jaz as my regular stylist for over a year. The grey vanishes and the highlights enhance the color. I leave the salon feeling uplifted and confident. The process of coloring/highlighting can take almost three hours, but time quickly passes as we have fun talking about many things - music, food, Tik Tok, Spotify, etc. The salon is well maintained, cheerful, bright, and decorated with positivity. Another great asset of this business is the employees; always smiling and talking friendly. Riley, at the reception desk, is very welcoming and wonderful at what she does. Ruby was fantastic! I got a trim, color, and a conditioning service and was very pleased with the outcome. The appointment was started in a timely manner, lasted within the time frame specified over the phone, and she did magic with color matching to what I specifically wanted! She also spent the time to answer all of my questions regarding hair care and provided options and advice based on my individual needs. I would 100% recommend this hair studio and Ruby. read more

10/10 with Amanda & her staffs' cleanliness during COVID-19! First I'll say, I appreciate their sign to wait outside for my stylist PRIOR to just walking in. I also appreciate them sanitizing each station prior to transitioning. For example, after Amanda washed my hair, on my way to the dryer stationed, I saw her sanitize the washing station. Same when I was done with the dryer, she sanitized that area, and brought me to her station. It does add additional minutes to my appointment but I very much appreciate it. I also appreciate ALL staff & clients wearing masks, even the ones in the back room. Regarding my appointment/service: I've had Amanda in the past to fix my hair (I have thick, curly, type 2c/3a hair). This time around, I requested for a deep conditioning treatment (receptionist inquired about my hair type & informed that my hair treatment will be Aphrogee deep conditioning) & a haircut. At the time of my appointment, I requested for a lob due to PP (postpartum) hair loss & my 8 month daughter pulling my hair . Amanda showed me an example of what my hair will look like due to my hair type & made it happen!! Amanda is excellent at what she does and knows EXACTLY what to do with curly hairs. She walked me through the process of what my hair will look like (lob's awkward phase lol) & gave my confidence in my PP hair loss. She is a bit pricey due to her being a master stylist, but hey! You get what you pay for! read more

I am a visitor from the mainland and was searching for a place to get a haircut. Color Box was one of the few that came up closest to where I was staying. I looked at their Yelp reviews which were very good. So I decided to give them a try and I'm so happy I did!! Ruby did an amazing job! She layered my hair and gave me bangs! I loved the way she took her time and was very detail oriented! She took her time with my bangs and made sure they were at the perfect length! Loved her personality and sense of humor! Raquel is a magician. I'd been doing my own hair for a while, having fun with temporary colors, but it was time to get it in better shape. I honestly had really low expectations, because I'd never been to Colorbox before and my hair is notoriously difficult (thin, fine, prone to breakage, etc.) so I'm used to some trial and error. I feel SO lucky that this is the place I picked. I swear I brought her a nightmare and I left with a dream! She did a color removal treatment, bleach at the roots, then platinum color (and a conditioning treatment). It turned out awesome--way better than I was even hoping for! Thank you Raquel! read more

I think that amazing businesses deserve credit for going above and beyond for their clients! Tricia called me a few hours before my appointment to confirm I was coming in, which I greatly appreciate. Walking in, I was warmly greeted by Jess who gave me a complimentary beverage while I waited a few minutes for my stylist. I just want to go in great depth why Tricia was so awesome! She let me know every step of the way what products were being used on my hair, and checking in on me constantly. She is such a sweet and great energy to be around. It is so rare that I love my haircut.. even though I come in for trims and deep conditioning treatments, Tricia has me falling in love with my hair all over again at every appointment. I am beyond happy with my visit! Per request, they assisted me with preparing my Hair for donation and Amanda made me feel so at home with the whole experience. She saw that I hadn't had short hair in many years and talked me through the entire process; making me feel so at ease. She was very professional but fun at the same time. **UPDATE** Taylor moved to Salon Nova in Kapolei (: ------------------------------------------ This place is so under rated! I made a appointment OTP which was easy, they didn't get to see me or look at my hair so it was a surprise to them once I sat in the chair because I had long hair and a lot of hair. But that didn't discourage my hair stylist. I had Taylor the younger taylor (sorry I know there's 2). I asked her if I should do layers on my hair and she gave me a straight up answer I never in my life heard. She told me that since my hair is how it is if I layer it it'll be more thick, which I didn't want. And right off the bat I knew I liked her. 200 for hightlights and $35 per extra bowl. That was super cheap because I usually spend around $700 for my hair. Then cut was $80 & condition $30. She did a really great job. When I tell you she knows her blondes she does! I'm so happy with the results because usually it's hard for me to get where I want in one session. read more

I loved the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff and my stylist, however I am very disappointed with the results of my hair. When I originally booked the appointment I had let them know what was going on with my current state of hair, and that I had wanted a FULL head of ash blonde (so going from almost full brunette to ash blonde) and they had booked me for full highlights with toner. I don't know hair terminology so of course I went with the flow and had my appointment booked. When I went to my appointment I showed my stylist what I had wanted, and of course I knew I wasn't going to reach the exact color considering I had other old dye in my hair that hasn't faded. However, I was extremely disappointed and let down when I saw the results of my hair (that I paid $382 for not including tip). I am very happy with the color my stylist was able to accomplish, but I wanted more of that color on my head, I wanted my whole head to be that color, not the little amount I got. I messaged my stylist and let her know the situation and she very kindly let me know she can add more foils to my hair in another appointment to try to achieve that goal, but then the manager, Raquel, called me and what felt like was blaming me for the way my hair turned out (I have a lot of hair and made the stylist be behind for her other clients, i should have cut my hair that had the old dye, miscommunication on my end, etc). I'm extremely let down and upset that I paid so much money and didn't get anything close to what I asked for and all I get in return is a free haircut (which I don't want I only wanted a trim). Consultation appointments should be required or asked for at this salon so no one else walks out with empty pockets and a sad heart. read more

So due to the home quarantine I wasn't able to cut my hair for months. I was very fortunate in getting an appointment with Caitlin. This was my first time going to this salon. My experience was awesome even with the change in lifestyle and services due to COVID-19. They did great in adapting to this new changes This is by appointment only Mask required At arrival, they ask the normal COVID-19 questions Then you're asked to use hand sanitizer and wait outside They have 5 stylists separated using every other stall Entire staff wearing mask entire time My hair stylist Caitlin, gave a great first impression with great styling skills to match. My first review wouldn't accept photos. But this is the result when someone uses 30+ volume bleach and keeps repeating it for 3 hours. I told the stylist my hair requires 40 volume for 15 to 20 minutes, no longer. She used 30. She did foils, removed them and just covered the top of my head with bleach, and put me under the lights. I had no idea it was bleach she kept putting on my hair, she was suppose to do a toner and "root tipping." Needless to say, that never happened, it was all bleach. After she washed the bleach out, she started brushing it and my hair was falling out!!! The color I was left with was yellow with orange roots. I demanded she add a silver color and get me out of there. Ive had breakage before, but never had my hair disintegrate when I touched it. There was so much breakage I look like I had a crew cut. I went out and purchased a $500 wig, but it looks so awkward I can't wear or return it. The owner reached out to me and refunded $100. I wasn't looking for anything. I just want to make sure nobody else goes through what I just went through. It was a costly, humiliating experience and my intention is to keep the public informed that not all positive reviews are posted by actual clients. The owner is now claiming my review is false. Her employee has videos of before and after, so she needs to post them before calling someone a liar. If my hair was so damaged, why would they touch it??? I have short hair, I went in looking for a different color and style, not a crew cut. My hair will grow back, I will have to deal with this for several months, but if someone has an event planned in the near future, don't go near this salon. Amazing studio!! I got married in Hawaii and was staying in the Kapolei area at a nearby resort. I researched on Yelp to find a great studio to do my hair for the wedding and saw the fabulous reviews here on Yelp for CBHS. The entire process of making an appointment, getting to talk to my stylist for pre-appointment hair instructions, getting a reminder a few days in advance, and then actually getting my up style done was seamless and customer friendly. The appointment went smoothly, starting with a consultation on how I wanted my hair to look. Amanda worked efficiently and made sure I was happy with the style at a few points before she was finished. Amanda finished my hair in about an hour (I had been told to block out an hour to an hour and a half for the appointment) and it looked amazing! I couldn't have asked for a better experience as a bride having a destination wedding! read more

I have been seen Brandie for over 3 years now, she use to work for Regis Hair Salon, I followed her to Color Box Hair Studio in Kapolei. I couldn't be happier with the results she has proposed for each visit. I used to have stringy, dull, and lifeless boring hair with no style. With Brandie, not only does she color my hair to match naturally to my skin tone, but also my hair feels healthy, has volume and gives me a more youthful appearance. Brandie is very professional and takes her time to address your needs. She is also quite entertaining in conversation. I could tell Brandie uses high quality products and really cares about her customers. I see Brandie every 5 to 6 weeks to get my hair done and my hair color looks fresh and easy to style. I've had positive compliments on my hair. I highly recommend Brandie to anyone. read more

Stopped by to see what the hype was all about for this new hair salon in Kapolei. When I walked in was greeted by the receptionist and Deb (the mgr.) came by and introduced herself to welcome me. The atmosphere had a good vibe. I think it was the first Sat. they have been opened and every stylist had someone in their chair! Impressive right away. Had a great haircut and as I watched everyone looked like all of the clients looked great walking out. I was asked to prebook my next appointment as the holidays will be approaching....sounded like a great idea although Ive never been asked to do that before. Well looks like it may be the only way to get an appointment here. Congrats to Deb the team looks like you will be very welcomed in Kapolei! read more

My daughter requested a lowlight hair coloring session for me as a surprise gift. I went through with it per her request, it was delightful and awesome. The owner and stylist, "Raquel" was so helpful and friendly while doing my hair. She enlightened me and explained to me how all the coloring works. The salon was very clean and the ambiance was wonderful. The lowlights in my hair turned out great, I had complements from people and some other opinions, all good, I've been back 3 times and everytime , everyone has been welcoming and friendly. I have gone to many upscale salons for years and I have never felt so comfortable as I do at the Color Box Hair Studio in Kapolei. I walk in to the salon and I am greeted with a smile. They immediately ask you if you would like coffee, tea, or water. Most importantly I love love my master stylist Stacy. I highly recommend her to my family and friends. I was going to her at another salon and followed her to Color Box. I have been with her for over three years now. Stacy always makes me feel pretty when I leave. She does exactly what I want and always has suggestions for the latest style and color. You will not be disappointed with Stacy or any of the stylists. read more

I came in because of Debra Wendt, she is the manager and Master stylist. WOW, what a wonderful salon and what a wonderful stylist. The salon is brand new, clean and the service is excellent! All the stylist are friendly and accommodating. One of the most wonderful thing about my visit was rinsing my hair. I have previous neck pain and usually getting my hair rinsed kills me, but the sinks at Color Box comes to you. No neck pain! I left the color and style to Debra, and of course my hair turned out great, shiny and soft. Beautiful!! I can not wait till my next appointment and with Debra. I followed Tricia from Mililani to Color Box in Kapolei and the staff there are incredible! Everyone is so nice, professional and knowledgeable in their art! The atmosphere is fantastic and even for first time visitors, you'll feel safe knowing that whoever you end up with will take really good care of you. If you really need a suggestion, ask for TRICIA or AMANDA and they'll be happy to work with you to get exactly what you're looking for in your next 'do. I've had my hair done by the both of them and it's so comforting to find a stylist who will analyze and plan out what they'll do to your hair and listen to your opinions! read more

I needed a new stylist after my stylist of 18 years moved off-island. I am so happy that a friend of mine referred me to Debra at Color Box Studio. Debra is a MASTER colorist and stylist. She, as well as everyone else at the studio, is really friendly and very knowledgeable. My experience has been that they are very reasonable and cooperative about scheduling, when possible. When she returns home on breaks from college, my daughter sees a different stylist, Amanda, who is also an awesome colorist and stylist. We are both very happy with Color Box! I would feel 100% confident in referring friends to any of the stylists there. read more

I cannot recommend my hairstylist Kayla enough! From the moment I walked in, she was so warm and kind that I instantly felt comfortable. She truly listens to what you want and brings it to life even better than you imagined. Her talent is undeniable -- she has such an eye for detail and knows exactly what works best for you. I had Amanda cut my hair, based on the receptionists recommendation when I called and told her what my hair was like. She did a fabulous job on my thick, curly hair! I'm at the end of my pregnancy and I let her know I just want it short so I can tie it back for the next year or so and minimize the baby hair pulling. She went out of her way to give me an amazing cut so that I still have the option to wear it down and look good. She was very friendly, we chatted the whole time. My review is based on their customer service. Yancarlos did so great & helped me see that I'm not yet bald. My hair was long & stringy which made it so hard for me to look in the mirror without crying. He did his thing & boom! I love it. I am ill so it's hard seeing my hair fall out. He listened & helped me with some tips that I will definitely try out. If you ever go, ask for him! Great conversation & super friendly. I will definitely be coming back. My Master Hairstylist, Cassidy, is truly a master at her craft! From the very start, she made me feel that she listened to my needs and concerns and her consultation was spot on! Then throughout the process, she explained what she was doing and why. She also gave me so many valuable tips about taking care of my hair at home so I could achieve similar results. I went to a stylist where I live (on Molokai) asking for icy-blonde balayage with smoky roots. Six hours later, I left with brassy ends and caramel/orange roots. I went to Oahu 2 weeks later and was thankful to get an appointment at the Color Box. Desmond corrected my color, giving me just what I wanted, and was carful not to do damage since I'd so recently been colored. It was super expensive, but dang, it's beautiful!!! I'm so thankful to Debbie, Desmond, and the whole Color Box gang. read more

First of all this place is gorgeous! The shampooing station is unbelievably comfortable, not like other salons where you hurt your neck. Decor is so up to date, modern and clean. I see Brandie and my hair always comes out fabulous!!! She is so friendly and always does an amazing job. Raquel the owner and the other ladies were extremely knowledgeable and patient with my color correction. They used their expertise and skill to get me my hair goals and transformation at an extremely reasonable price and were very flexible with my needs and wants. Called to scheduled a haircut for my daughter and was happily surprised that they were able to book an appointment for the next morning. My daughter's hair was long and thick, with a fair amount of dry & damaged ends. Trisha, her stylist, was great. She got rid of the dry & damaged ends (about 5") and thinned out the bulkiness. My daughter is so happy with her curtain bangs and can't stop running her fingers through her hair. Thank you, Trisha! read more

I am so happy to have found Desmond at the Color Box in KapoleI. I nicer man you could not imagine to meet, and on top of that he is great with hair! It's hard to find a stylist who can cut curly/wavy hair. He does such a great job. He is very approachable, listens to what you're saying and what you want, but knows enough about hair that if what you 'want' isn't what your hair will 'do', he will let you know. Maica is really friendly and personable. I liked how we could talk stories and I didn't have to be on my phone awkwardly while she worked on me. She takes multiple clients and a time and I enjoyed how she would check on me often to see how I'm doing. Parking is really easy. Just make sure you give yourself time just in case the market across the street causes some traffic on the way. I did highlights and it only took 3 hours which made me happy! Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. She was working on five clients at the same time by herself, and my hair was left brittle, severely damaged, and I experienced hair loss afterward. On top of the damage, my hair color didn't even come close to what I had requested or shown in the pictures. I understand that hair services can have unpredictable results, but the condition of my hair afterward and the fact that the requested color wasn't achieved were very upsetting. I would NOT recommend this salon if you're concerned about protecting the health of your hair or getting the color you asked for.

Auntie Julie and Julian are awesome hairstylist - they also listen to their client's request, make you feel at home it's a very welcoming environment everyone is friendly. I specifically asked for my hair to be cut to about neck length, and I pointed to the exact spot. I also asked for layers because my hair is very fine and straight and doesn't hold styling well. I've had this haircut before, and I know it works well for my hair type. Instead, Shari said she would cut some of the length off before washing it. I was facing away from the mirror when she took out a razor and removed what felt like almost all of my hair in one go. She never showed me what she had done. Instead, she immediately directed me to the shampoo station. After washing my hair, she wrapped it in a towel and had me return to the styling chair. Once again, I was kept facing away from the mirror for the entire remainder of the appointment. She continued cutting my hair for about 25 minutes without ever letting me see the progress or asking for my input. When she finally turned me toward the mirror while drying my hair, I was shocked. I honestly wanted to cry. My hair was much shorter than I had requested and looked like a helmet around my head. It was so short that I couldn't even pull it back into a ponytail to hide it. Because of how it was cut, my naturally straight hair curves inward, and I can't style it the way I normally do. To make matters worse, she didn't ask how I normally part my hair until the very end of the appointment--something every stylist I've been to asks before cutting because it affects the entire haircut. She also told me, "I gave you curtain bangs too," even though I never asked for them. In fact, I specifically avoid styles with hair in my face because I don't like them. A haircut takes months to grow out, and this experience has been incredibly upsetting. I went in asking for a specific length and style and left with something completely different, without being given any opportunity to see or approve the haircut during the process. Until recently, Mehana Salon was located near the Kapolei Costco, but they've since moved to a new location--behind the newly built Hyatt hotel, roughly halfway between Ewa and Kapolei. However, I was really surprised to discover that the current owner of the *old* location--where Jenny used to work--is now using a name that is very similar to Mehana Salon! I actually had to call them directly to verify the details and track down the correct address. Since the names are so confusingly similar, I highly recommend double-checking everything before you make a Appointment with Jenny at Mehana Salon!

I called their main number and she return my call through text. She was able to schedule me within few days later which I was grateful.
