My son painted a gourd, my daughter a monkey dinner plate, and I did an Elmo saucer and a fish plate--each one came out with its own personality. The fun music kept us vibing while we chatted and painted together. The studio is bright, welcoming, and beautifully organized, and the staff struck the perfect balance--helpful when we needed it, happy to let us do our own thing. We came here for my daughter's 6th birthday recently and it was perfect from beginning to end. The team was so knowledgeable and friendly on the phone when I called to ask questions about the event. I came in a few days prior to pre-select some pieces for the event for the kids to choose from. When we showed up day of the party, the team was pleasant and let us into the party room a bit early to decorate. I love that you can bring in your own food and drinks. The team member who worked our party was so patient and friendly with all the kids. The kids loved that they could pick out their own piece to paint. Everyone did a great job painting and had a lot of fun. My daughter ended up getting a birthday plate with her handprint and all her guests' fingerprints. It was such a nice memento! I've been to 3 pottery painting places in the last 3 months. 1 in San Carlos, 1 in Burlingame and this one in Daly City (Westlake Shopping Center). This was my favorite experience by far. It was packed the day I went (day before Mother's Day). Regardless, the staff was super friendly and very, very helpful and no one seemed stressed. They have everything laid out on the tables for you; paint color palette to choose your paint colors, paint tray, water, white butcher paper on each table. They then bring pencils and paintbrushes to you as well. The employee helping us explained the process in detail and was there every step of the way when we needed help. There is a separate room for parties here which is nice for both party guests and for the other customers just going to paint. Looks like you can bring in trays of food to the party room, which is a nice feature. I found the painting experience here to be fun, clean and very organized. They have a large selection of paint items to choose from too. I would come back in a heartbeat. For those who care, it does seem a little smaller than the other 2 places, especially on a busy day but not so much so that it would deter me from coming back. Been here three times over the last few years and each time was such a fun and chill experience, I had to give Color Me Mine a review! First come first serve basis. Never had to wait but by 2pm on the weekends the tables fill up. If you don't finish they can save it for you to come back another time. I would recommend blocking out 2.5 - 3 hours for this activity. Pottery pieces span the walls to choose from, ranging from $20 - $50 from what I've seen, depending on the size and detail. The pieces are always different. They do have a dedicated "green section" for people to paint pieces for their preferred herb - which surprised me as I thought this was a kid-centric space (pipes to water pipes). Walking to choose one can feel a little cramped tbh. Service is always friendly and they help you setup the paint while you are gathering your brushes. I have to note, they do play some good music with top 100 along with rap/RnB classics, which helped me get into the zone lol. read more

Came here with my family - parents, the 4 siblings, one of my sisters fiancé and my bf. No reservations needed and there is no time limit on how long you can be there. We all picked out our pieces - prices will vary, chose what paints we wanted with the numbers above each color selected so we would know which one to use for refill. Our girl helping at our table was pretty soft spoken so we couldn't hear very well on the instructions but we figured it out. They have stencils, stamps etc. for you to use. I like it here. The staff explains how the color works and what to do after. They're very attentive but they let you do your own art and is always helpful when you ask questions. Everyone is polite and happy assisting you with what you need. For first time who come in here asks how much will be the cost for everything so you have an idea. It's a fun and relaxing time doing this with your kids and if their art or coloring doesn't turn out good after they're done that's okay. I recommend calling ahead if you have your heart set on painting. They host birthday parties that sometimes reserve the whole place. Otherwise it's first come first serve with no reservations taken. They have a decent number of pieces but not as wide of a selection as some other locations. There's a $12 studio fee per person plus the cost of your piece which can be pricey. I spent over $90 for 2 people and 2 cups/mugs. The nice thing is you can paint to your hearts delight. Depending on what you're painting this activity can take several hours so plan accordingly. You have a better chance at getting a table if there's 2 people, or if you're able to - split your party to a couple of tables so you're not all waiting so long. Weeknights is complete opposite. When we got there we asked if there was a wait, and there was no wait for walk-ins. They do not take reservations. There is a $10 painting fee per person. There was a kid's party, but they had a separate room for them. We were seated pretty close to the pieces. So when people were choosing what they wanted to paint, they were all surrounding me. The row near the wall could be moved further away. The selections of pieces didn't have that much variety. There were a lot of "one of a kind" pieces, so if you saw someone paint that, that was the only one. The pens used to mark which color you want on your palette bleed, and mixed with all our colors. read more

Overall, I had a good experience at Color Me Mine. It was perfect for someone like me who enjoys art, but isn't a painting or pottery expert. Prices were a little higher than I would have liked, but not out of the range of a Bay Area activity. The studio is a large, well-lit room, with tables individually set up to share cups, water, and brushes with people in your group. They also have a separate room for larger groups. The people who work here are wonderful. They were friendly, and helpful with instructions, paint selection, and providing ideas. I liked that I could come back multiple times to perfect my item, which was convenient. I came back on three separate occasions to finish painting and pick up my final product after they finished firing it. The main downside to Color Me Mine was the logistics. I was not able to visit an alternative Color Me Mine location to paint or fire up my finished product. I had to call the other locations to confirm this. Also, even though they mentioned they would text me when the firing was completed, I did not receive a text. I had to call a week after the drop-off to confirm. read more

You can't make reservations ahead of time unless you're a big group or private event, but there was plenty of room for us. Came on a Thursday at around 4PM and it was empty! It was really nice to have the whole space to ourselves. It was really relaxing and fun to paint for hours here with no one else! The workers here are super nice and friendly. They were always super helpful throughout the time we were there. I painted a skateboard and it was around $30 and the studio fee is $10 per person. What a fun activity! I've always walked by Color Me Mine over the years as I shopped in the plaza, but never stopped inside. Last week, I decided to stop inside to inquire on the process since I wanted to do something fun with my husband. But honestly I think this place is good for not just dates, but maybe you + your child, a girlfriend group, your child's bday party... it's fun for everyone (I'm thinking a good min age is...5?) For just $10/person, you can paint whichever item you want (price varies by item).... And seemingly for an unlimited time (unless there is a reserved party, I'm guessing). I got a Starbucks-sized cup while my husband got this huge mug. It ended up costing us $90, but like I said, so many items to choose from that it can definitely be more affordable than our items. I must also confess that this is also my first time painting on pottery, and i had no idea it was fairly easy to erase your mistakes. Once you paint a coat, the paint dries pretty quickly, and then using a sponge + water to erase any mistakes was so fast and easy! Some good tips: -You can go there and reserve your item ahead of time, if you want) -Call ahead of time if you want to make sure there is availability. When I went on a Tuesday afternoon, we were the only ones there for a pretty long time -There are stencils and stamps! There are also these bottles with a thin needle-like end so that you can write something instead of painting the words. MUCH easier if you want to write. The associate actually changed the needle for me so that it was smaller, allowing it to look much, much better -Look online for some ideas of what you want to paint if you're someone who isn't inherently creative Your painted pottery will be done in roughly a week....so I'm super anxious and excited for what ours will look like as the end product! read more

This Color Me Mine is a childhood spot of mine. I have always loved this spot so I am a little biased as I have been coming here since I was in third grade. Today I had revisited and had a bunch of fun! The process: If you have never been to Color Me Mine, you might get slightly confused as to what to do and when to do it or something like that. So this breaks down the steps (while it is still fresh in my head) 1. Walk in and if there is someone at the register/greeting table, they can explain the process in words. If not, take a look around the shop, paying attention to the different ceramics you could possibly paint on the left and right walls. (they are literally impossible to miss). 2. Choose your piece that you want to make. There should be a price tag at the back/bottom of the piece. There is a $10 per person cost called the "Studio" cost that covers you for the whole day to use their paint and eventually their kiln (well you won't be using but your masterpiece will be). 3. Once you have chosen, find a seat and sit. Someone should've approached you by now. They will provide you with a cup of water (to wash your brush) and a tile to put paint on. On the table should be a tile that has different paint colors and their corresponding colors. Choose your colors. Write the numbers on the tile with the sharpie they give (if they didn't give you one, they are located on the small table on the right side of the paints, towards the back). Note: Where things are: At the right side of the paints are pencils, sharpies, more paint tiles, and some other writing utensils. Underneath are stamps, stencils, and a bunch of other fun art supplies. Next to that are squeeze bottom paint, where you can use those to directly draw onto the piece or use for more accurate details. On the left of the paints is the brushes and beyond that is the sink followed by a bathroom next to it. 4. after you have decided what paint to use, go to where the paints are (towards the back, can't miss it), and squeeze it onto your plate! 5. Paint your piece! Don't forget to put your initials or some sort of letter identification at the bottom of your ceramic piece (easiest done with a squeeze bottle paint, NOT a sharpie as they will burn off) 6. Fun activity to do with friends and family. Located in Daly City's westlake plaza. It's on the main road, so a little hard to find parking since the Trader Joe's lot is always busy. Staff are very nice and helpful. I went with one other person. There is a flat rate fee (I think about $9) for the studio fee. Each ceramic has different prices. Honestly the prices aren't bad since they basically do all the ceramic work for you if you don't have the means to do it in your own. You can choose anywhere from plates/containers to figurines. Your ceramic will be available in about a week. Also, if for whatever reason you don't finish, they offer to wrap it for you so you can finish on another day! read more
