My nieces wanted to go to Color Me Mine but we were not able to find the one on Colorado Blvd, and was told it moved to this location. Some yelpers one or two stars review kindly of gave me cold feet. but I did not want to disappoint my nieces. To the very contrary, we received great service here. When we arrived, the place was full. We left our cell phone number and was told that it'd take 45 minutes. At 45 minutes, they promptly called us and reserved a table for us. The staff were courteous. During the painting session, they regularly checked whether water needed to be changed and were responsive to the children's questions or problems. This is an experience we did not have at the old Colorado store. The place is well lit. Though it's pricey, it's well worth two hours of time here for the children to develop their artistic skills and have a good time. read more

I pained some tiles at the Pasadena Art Festival with my little niece a few weeks ago which were sponsored by Color Me Mine. I was told after I painted the items to pick them up at the store after a week to give them enough time to fire the products. I went 3 weeks later only to find out that they had trashed the tiles because people had not come to pick them up. How can you do that after 3 weeks? I was so disheartened to learn that after spending all that time and diligence in painting the tiles, that they would just THROW OUT the tiles. What a waste!!! But unfortunately all that doesn't really matter when my piece was lost at the last firing process... :( Horrible. I was so excited about it and wanted it to be a gift. This should have 0 stars. The first, only, and last time venturing into this establishment was last week for my niece's 5th birthday party. We were set up in the back, which was a little tight. Also a bit of bad planning meant having about a dozen 4 and 5 year-olds sitting on really high stools and the all the parents were squeezed in the back. The store's set up is rather long and narrow, and although there weren't many people in the front, we were still shoved in the back. Now to the actual "painting time." The yelp-rumors are true: the owner/manager is a jerk and the customer service is horrific. I was helping my 2 nephews (the youngest ones of the group, ages 2 & 3) and after they had picked their pieces and sat down, we had to wait to get paint. When they finally gave us paint, we noticed 2 problems: 1. there was definitely not enough paint to cover the small clay sculpture and 2. there were only 4 or 5 colors, and they were all pastel, meaning that when you give them to toddlers, they mix up to a smooth, milky, crap-brown color. Because of reason #1, my nephews ran out of paint quickly and after waiting around 10 minute, they finally brought more ... to one nephew and not the other. I know a little kid party is a busy to-do, but when your only job is to refill paint, I would think you would notice people getting impatient because their piece still has patches of white showing through. Towards the end of the whole arrangement, we were getting rushed to finish and he was practically taking the pieces out of our hands. As the part was winding down, I was standing in the front of the store with my nephews, one of which reached up and turned off the central lights. The manager briskly walked past and turned them back on. My nephew went back and switched them again, then the manager marched over, turned them on, and told me to keep my nephew away. I said "he's only a kid...." and by that time, the manager was near the back of the store and shouted "I DON'T CARE!" So, please, avoid this location at all costs. I came here for some fun quality time with a good friend and two of her daughters (the third daughter was too young for this activity). She made the reservation in advance, so I am not really sure how all that works. The place was completely full when we were there, and walk-ins were being turned away, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. Located in Old Town Pasadena, my go-to parking place is the 90-min-free public parking lot diagonally across the street. In this case, I was dropped off, which turned out to be a great decision since we were here for 5.5 hours. The painting process takes a long time, so take that into consideration! How this place works is that you walk around the store and pick whatever object you want to paint. They offer a large variety of items--mugs, plates, bowls, piggy banks, statues, planters, etc. Each item has its own price tag, and the larger items are of course more expensive. When we went they were doing a special where you would get $2 off for each canned good that you brought (for them to donate) and if you spent over $20 then they would throw in a free "resolution" mug (I went on NYE last year). Once you have your item picked out, then it is time to paint it. This is the messy time-consuming portion. They do offer a lot of paint, but you have to share with the other customers in the store. There are several tables set up within the two adjoining rooms so that they can accomodate as many groups as possible. There is a small bathroom where you can wash your hands, and the staff will help with washing brushes and providing clean supplies. Once the painting is done, you leave it with them to fire in their kiln. I don't recall what their fastest available time is but we picked up our items about a week later. And they were beautiful! This was a really fun experience and I am glad I got to finally try this place out. The staff here are great and really helpful. Be ready to spend a LOT of time here and get messy if you come with kids, but it will be a lot of fun! I think it would be fun to do with a group of adults too... and probably a little faster ;) read more

I love this place! I am not naturally artistically inclined - but you don't have to be here. The staff can teach you many techniques that are super easy but look really hard. There are lots of samples and idea books to get you started. I even copied a design off a poster on the inside of the bathroom door for my teapot! Seriously. The inside of the bathroom door. :) On first glance, it seems pricey - but there are easy ways to decrease your cost per visit - which I've discovered, being on a tight budget. (1) Go on Wednesday, Food Drive Day. Every food item you donate on Wednesdays is $2 off your studio fee that day. Donate five food items, and your studio fee is $0. (2) Go to Jazz Night the first Friday night of the month (you need to RSVP), and the studio fee is only $1. Jazz Night is a great time to bring friends - There is a live jazz band, and you can bring your bottle of wine and snacks, and make a social event out of it. (3) If you follow Color Me Mine on Instagram, the studio fee is $5 on Mondays and Tuesdays, I believe. (4) Most importantly - there is no rule you must finish your ceramic item all in one day! - since the studio fee is only for the first day you buy and start an item. You can come back and finish anytime. Typically and purposely, I paint for about an hour or so a week, so it takes three visits to finish most items. So my weekly cost can be as low as $4.67 per week (for a $14 plate) - way less than a movie, a dance class, dinner, or even a cup of coffee or ice cream cone in some places. So with just a little bit of advance planning, you can get three weeks of a "ceramics class," instead of just one. (5) And, if you park in the parking structure kitty corner from the studio, and move your car every 75 min or so, you can avoid paying the parking fee. I've been coming for about 3 months, and have found ceramics to be extremely therapeutic, and that it helps develop my creativity. The staff are pleasant and extremely knowledgeable and helpful - It's almost as if you have your own personal art teacher when you come here - who gives you great ideas, and doesn't grade you! I believe most of the staff are art majors. It's cool to make things I can give as gifts to others or myself. My favorite recent items: a teapot, a watermelon cereal bowl, a sushi plate set, and two plates. I shamelessly copied the designs on every item. I'm hooked - a healthy addiction to have! :) read more

To all Yelpers: do NOT go to this place if you can!!!! I went with my friend to get our mother's day gifts done a week prior to the actual day. The experience itself of choosing, designing and painting your own unique piece is really something fun and exciting. Most of the staff as well are helpful and friendly. However, the service provided by the owner, like most other yelpers have already said, was horrible. Evan, who is the owner has very poor communication, follow up and follow through skills. As a result, I got my mother's gift done and ready to pick up not 1-2 weeks later as promised, but more than 2 months later!!!! While I understand it would take longer to get my piece done (I had requested a picture of my mom and I on the plate), I had paid an exorbitant $70 for it and felt like I had to keep chasing Evan to even come and pick it up. When I did go for pick up, his staff couldn't find it so they called him only to find out that he had already "shipped it to my address" but needed me to "reconfirm my address" with him. All in all I loved my experience while there, but just because of the atrocious customer service, I'd rather drive well out of my way, pay more, or even somehow figure out a way to make my own pottery than return to this location of Color Me Mine. $6 child's studio fee $10 adults studio fee (studio fees includes unlimited paint and materials minus ceramic piece) $16 for my child's 4 inch cupcake jar $12 for my strawberry cupcake dish (photos soon to come) Tax is applied to studio fees and items you chose My total was $48 and some change. Pricey but it's an experience for the kids. Final product can picked up in 4-5 days The experience: Sweet girl running the place on a Sunday afternoon while hosting a 6-year olds party. It was surely understaffed and she wasn't always around to help out but she did a great job while she had moments in between. The place was kept clean and neat and she did the dishes as soon as paint plates ran low. I visited the store as a one time thing and am not too picky. Maybe if I regularly visited the store with little ones and couldn't get help on the fly, I could imagine it to be possibly frustrating. Events and children's parties are booked in advance so I think they should try to arrange for two people to run the place during events. read more

New owners, New look. I don't think these previous reviews are for the same folks. They were fantastic, hip and fun. Great selection of stuff to paint. I spent 90 minutes painting. I was allowed to bring my own bottle of wine and relax with my headphones on while I was bringing out my creative muse. The other customers were fun and we shared our final product. the staff was attentive and helpful with painting techniques and suggestions but they weren't all over me ...they let me be once they gave me the orientation. Although they closed at 9, they let me and the other two customers finish our painting while they cleaned and closed up. I've been asked to leave at other places. I plan on going back and making a wedding present for my niece, a Christmas present for my sister. read more

This is a pretty cool place. Basically, you walk in, pick out an item that you want to paint, and paint away! A few days later, it will be ready for pickup after it's been glazed. The items range from bathroom items (ie toothbrush holders), to kitchen items (ie bowls, cups, and plates), to decorative items (ie animal figurines). The service people are very friendly and will explain everything to you, including the equipments in the paint station. The place is mostly kids but there are adults too. Pricing is on the expensive side - $10 per person plus the price of the item you pick (I would say $10+), but you pay for the experience. It would definitely be a cool experience if you are doing it for the first time or for a special occasion. read more

Perhaps I should've done a little more research before visiting w/ my 5 and almost 2 year old. First, the pricing was a bit more expensive then I would've ever imagined. $12 for their studio fees, $16 for one mug and $14 for salad plate. Second, be prepared to spend over an hour. I've been to many Color Me Mine's over the span of several years and different locations. They're always so accommodating, check in with you, and it's typically a relaxing experience. I came here today with my family for valentines day and didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. All three of the girls were very cold, never checked in with us unless we flagged them down, and they rushed us to finish bc there was another reservation coming. Wish they had told us sooner than five mins prior to, and we didn't even finish. :-( So we ended up paying $90 for a rushed, rude experience and I'm pretty sure no one smiled...just not the fun relaxing experience we are used to. I would suggest going to another location. read more

The concept goes by a lot of names in a lot of different cities, but a popular store for clay-pottery decoration in the LA area is Color Me Mine. Every year ATPS at USC has a great Color Me Mine event on the 'SC campus where the Beverly Hills location employees bring out plates, mugs, bowls, and a large color palate for us to select our color scheme from. It is always a lot of fun, and my theme this year was Texas! But I digress. A year ago, I went with SWE USC to the Pasadena location in a joint event with SWE Cal-Tech. The event was a lot of fun, and the cute store was in walking distance of Cal-Tech, just inside downtown Pasadena (which is already altogether much cleaner looking than LA). The store hosts were very nice and helpful, even though we had a very large group, and the clay figure selection was varied and numerous. I ended up choosing a cute little piggy sprawled out on its side which I though was a very unique design and there was only one copy of. I had a great time overall, and the fired figure was delivered to me in a timely manner in mint condition--it looked great! Note that certain figures are very inexpensive, and others are more pricey, but they are all adorable or fun, and the amount you want to spend is completely up to you. I don't know what they sitting fee is though, as we did not have to pay for it. read more

It's a bit pricey but if you don't do it often, then it's worth it. If you make a day's activity out of it like I would, then sure. It's $10 to use their paint supplies and that includes firing up the finished ceramic piece that you paint. The real costs come in purchasing the actual item that you are going to paint. When I went here, I chose the coaster set, figuring I would get more paint for my buck with there being four coaster and a container to paint. I'm not too creative, but I had fun drawing and painting my favorite animals and using my favorite colors. Felt like a kid again. They do have a wide selection of things you can paint, for useful stuff like dishes and bowls to stuff that would be good as a paperweight, yet still sentimental in its own special way because you had a part in making it come alive in color. The only sucky part is that you actually have to wait a couple of days for them to be able to fire and glaze up your creation, so it sucks to have to make two trips, especially if it's out of the way for you. I did call the store before and asked whether I could bring my own ceramics, and they said we could, but that they couldn't guarantee their method of firing would set it because it was not for certain whether or not our ceramics that we could bring in would work, plus, I actually had trouble finding anything out there that could have been used, so I just stuck with the choices at the store. I went here with my girlfriend and it was very fun! I was a little disappointed with the selection of items to paint at first, but we finally settled on a pair of cute turtles. We apparently came at a great time because we were the only ones in there for a while, although it was still sometimes hard to waive down the workers to get more paints. What can I say, I love Color me Mine. However this location is AWFUL! Their customer service is atrocious. 1st Attempt: Called a day in advance to see if I could bring in a friend for her birthday. They told me that it shouldn't be a problem and to go ahead and come in. I had a whole day of girly things planned for the date and we show up. The location was closed for a private party for two children. They indicated that they had no room for us to paint, and that the parties were on the calendar for weeks. If they had notified me of this, I would have made sure to go to one of the other locations in Montrose, or Studio City. So this day I had planned for my friend all around the pasadena area was glitched. My friend was so understanding and took it in stride. 2nd Attempt: Did a do over of girls night to paint. Same friend and I came in about a month later to paint. They have a great selection of items to paint. However, the girls that were working were aloof once again. They weren't attentive to us at all. We were pretty much left on our own. Children were running all over the place knocking things down bumping into people painting, and yet the employees did or said nothing about it. When we completed our painting, we were told we would receive a phone in about a week for pick up. We waited two weeks with no phone call, and had to call them. When they finally picked up their phone I was told that someone spoke to me over a week ago and notified me that the items were ready. No such phone call was ever received or conversation took place. They couldn't even tell me who made the phone call. They just said someone with the initial "AM" made the call. Avoid this location if you can. There are other locations that are willing to serve their customers and provide great customer service. I am so disappointed with this location. I go to Color Me Mine a lot because my daughter works there, but also because I love it. I took a couple of friends with me last Friday and they also loved it. It's also a good place to forget your problems because you totally concentrate on what you are doing AND have fun at the same time. The girls are all very attentive and helpful. My daughter and I come to this color me mine often. It feels good to the soul to put paint on something... I especially love the holey bowlies... they are ramen bowls with a hole in the design for the chop sticks to rest on. The girls are always as helpful. There is a 90 min free parking lot directly across the street if you can paint your project in that short of time. Otherwise it maxes out at $6 for the day if you want to go have lunch somewhere nearby... plenty of excellent food to choose from. read more

My friend and I decided to do some last minute crafting before Christmas and we decided on a whim to go to Color Me Mine in Pasadena. we went on a Wednesday an brought cans for the food bank and we got free lab fees for the day! The items they have to paint are pretty cool. The staff were so nice and helpful. We had a blast painting our designs. We will be back to paint more soon. read more
