So my hobbit feet were feeling a bit down and bedraggled, but my BF in Gandalf-like fashion had the solution .. Color Nails and a quick pedicure. Things were pretty magical with her favorite manicurist Andy giving her a mani/pedi with elf like precision. Of course, my experience was less involved than my bf's, but the pedicure still put a wonderful relaxing note on an otherwise rainy day. But hobbit feet do require extra care so perhaps that is my my manicurist approached the task like a Dwarven smith forging a mighty axe. There was much hammering and filing of my toesies to the point of much laughter. Yes, we hobbits are quite ticklish and my manicurist was merciless; however, a small price to pay foot perfection. Will I go back? Not likely. Lisa worked on my nails (manicure and pedicure). She was quick and it shows. There is still nail polish on my toes next to my nails. She drew blood from my cuticle while plowing through my left hand. And there is still areas that need attention around my nails. I did not make a big deal about her ripping my cuticle to the point of bleeding, hell - I didn't even say a word. I wanted to see how she would handle it. She tried to cover it up by starting with that finger with every new process (rinsing, drying, disinfecting). After I pay I give the person working on my nails a tip in cash. Lisa had gone into the break room and told the receptionist she wasn't coming out when I asked. I left the tip with the receptionist. The place seemed typical with drying stations instead of that long drying table. They seemed to have a big SNS and color selection. At every step I was asked if I wanted more expensive services. I went here for usual nail treatment and honestly the guy in the front was very hostile about which kind of nail I wanted to get and kept pushing towards the most expensive (SNS) even though I kept saying I didn't want that. I got a pedicure and I'm used to getting a nice massage with it (like most salons) but apparently that's not part of the regular pedicure and it only comes with the more expensive predicate treatment (like the chocolate or green tea on). My first experience with Le. My first and last as this was stressful! I had a 230 appointment. She didn't start me until 315. After my pedicure which ended around 430 ( she was helping another customer with her nails, took a break to eat and was super duper slow) Midway through my nail appointment that's when I saw a mouse. It was a baby but still a mouse. About 30 minutes later a mouse appeared next to me on the floor. Do you have any idea how stressful it is trying to get a manicure and there is a mouse running around? Le was okay but 101 for sns with design, diamonds and a regular pedicure is out of my price range. Especially when I was there for 4 hours and was stressed since there were mice running around. What a disappointment. The decor was fabulous. The place was cleaner than a hospital and they could take a walk in right away. Everything good stopped at that point. I was given a technician who acted like she was right out of nail school. She kept fiddling with her instruments, rearranging things on her station. Talking to everyone in the salon while I sat there. After four minutes, she started to focus on me. It was short lived. She had to buy something from the front desk. Had to get her money to pay for it, had to move her stuff and she hasn't even start on my nails. She was told I wanted a gel manicure. If she asked me once, she asked me three times if I wanted a pedicure. I never lost my patience with her but after three she did get an eye roll. She got my previous polish off but it was painful. She really scrapped hard. Cutting cuticles was not her forte. She cut me twice and my cuticles were so bad when I left, I was in tears. After the polish went on, she did something I have never seen before. She proceeded to file my nail on the side, which caused the polish to have a bumpiness to it. When I was done, I talked to the manager. She was sorry, however did not make an attempt for a partial or full refund. I told her the tech did not deserve a tip. Normal the process takes all of one hour. I was there one hour and forty five minutes. The final sting was the cost, $38. I would have not minded if it was a worthy $38 gel manicure. read more

UPDATE: they continue to pop off like press on nails after having spent about 100 in doing and fixing them at this nail salon. I've have longer nails for about 3 years now. I went here for a routine fill-in and I had Tina. Not only did Tina suggest that I could not hold a job or function with the nails, I'm a research biologist, they kept attempting to get me to cut them after my repeated NO's. Upon finishing, they all break when I get home. I returned to the salon 3x to get my nails fixed as they were extremely fragile. On my final visit I went to Pho, who decided to put on a show and make a joke out of my nails in an "I-told-you-so" manner along with Tina. Literally, Tina stood next to him as they went back and forth during my visit. All in all, I will NOT be returning to the salon. They do not cater to nails of a longer length. They only have one person whom can handle and do designs, even though I just asked for 4 straight white lines with silver glitter between. They repeatedly made me feel uncomfortable about my nail length, which in actuality aren't that long. And the final fix did not work as 2 of my nails broke upon lifting my mug of coffee *eye roll* . Poor attention to detail, trying to rush and be lazy and not do a good job even when it is not busy! You know the type of salon I am talking about... I schedule a manicure appt as a first time customer (hint hint...opportunity to get a new regular customer.) The tech I get does not file my nails carefully, leaving rough edges. I ask her to redo one that is really bad. She tries to fix it by filing it with the paint and top coat on. Wow, SUPER lazy! Of course that is going to turn out horribly. I ask politely to have it redone correctly. She is very put out by this and proceeds to do a quick, sloppy job redoing my nail. Lazy, lazy, lazy! A professional salon does a good job on jobs small or large and tries to attract new business. They were not busy and rushing was pure laziness. No apology, just attitude. It's one of those salons where you have to watch them like a hawk bc they are trying to put in the bare minimum effort to get paid and get you out the door. I had high hopes for this place. It came recommended by a coworker of mine. I've been here twice. First time was for a pedicure and SNS manicure. I saw Tina. She was awesome, did not hurt or cut me at all, and was very gentle. My fingers and toes looked beautiful. Had I reviewed then, it would have been 5 stars. After the awesome first experience, I came back a second time just for an SNS manicure. I've been pondering writing this review, but decided I needed to warn everyone else of my horrible experience. I even started to type this WHILE SITTING IN THE CHAIR in the salon. I came to this salon on 7/7/2018 at around 5:50PM and walking out the door was the most pleasant thing I did. This time, I saw Cindy. She was NOT pleasant at all, keeping huffing and puffing like I was inconveniencing her by getting my nails done. Like seriously LOUD sighs, not hiding it at all. She cut me twice using the electric drill on my cuticles (See photos). It doesn't look like she even got the whole nail as it already looks a week grown out. My nails, cuticles especially, are itchy, which I've NEVER had with SNS before. My cuticles are also VERY swollen (Again, see photos.) She kept looking around the salon and at other manicurists and getting distracted. Overall, I am VERY disappointed. I had high hopes for this place with the great first experience. However, EVERYONE DOESN'T DO THE SNS PROCESS THE SAME. The powder would crack almost a day or two after getting my nails done. Ok.....don't get me wrong. This salon has been my favorite over the past 4 years. And my girl Cindy is THE BOMB!!!! But 2 weeks ago I went to get my nails done before my Mexico trip. I only get the SNS done. I saw a sign that said they no longer do acrylic nails...for health reasons I'm sure. No biggie, doesn't bother me since I don't get those. However, after getting my amazing SNS set, I went to pay and realized I was charged an extra $5. When I inquired what the fee was for I was told the boss now charges $5 to have nail tips added. WTH!!! I looked around and saw no sign that made mention of this, nor was I told when I made my appointment weeks ago, or the day before when they gave me a courtesy call to confirm my appointment. Tacking on $5 isn't a "huuuuge" deal for some, but as a regular customer I expected better from this salon!!! $53 for nails is a lot!! I will not be back. I had the Axxium service done and was asked if I wanted the manicure. Before giving my answer I asked was it included with the service and the manicurist, don't know her name, said yes everything is included. She began telling me the benefits of getting the manicure which made me believe she was trying to sell me on getting the manicure, so I asked again "is it included with the service?" and she shook her head and said yes. So I said sure. However, after she rang me up my total was $15 more than expected, which I questioned. Her response was "that's why I asked you if you wanted the manicure." When I reminded her she initially told me the manicure was included with the service, she said she didn't understand me. At this point, I just want to go home and don't put up a fight. But... This situation was unfortunately problem #1. Problem #2 was her disregard to customer satisfaction. My nail color was a little light for my liking and I mentioned I requested an additional coat. She tried to talk me out of it and into a pedicure which I succumbed to. During my pedicure I realized I really did want another coat which she sneered at and immediately began talking to her colleagues in her native tongue that I obviously did not understand. I could have brushed the side talk off and just rationalized something else was the topic of convo but another manicurist came over to me and asked "what color do you have," making it obvious I was the topic of conversation. I visited this salon because it was reviewed positively by fellow yelpers and was noted to offer Axxium. However, I surely will not be back. But, Nails America at Beacon Mall also offers Axxium and if you get a pedicure the same visit your total is $55. Their service does actually INCLUDE the manicure in addition to the Axxium gel. read more

I'm thinking that I might be hooked on SNS.... I've tried it all, gel, acrylic, etc., and SNS appears to be what works best. The problem with that is that there are only a few places that offer it and Color Nails is one of them. I highly recommend SNS for anyone who has been told that they have "oily nail beds" or if you have had problems with gel peeling or acrylic lifting. As for the salon, I am not completely sold. It certainly is popular, though!! Once I get a pedicure here (come on Spring!!), I'll have a better feel for the sanitation processes. The tools used on me came from an already open packet of tools, but was pulled out of one of those sterilization boxes. I've just become accustomed to a brand spanking new packet of tools being torn open just for me at my usual place in Fairfax. I've actually been here only twice, so I'll be sure to update if I start to make this my usual spot. I'm typically in the salon once every two weeks anyway, more if my manicure gets jacked. read more

Still a fan, even more so now. I've been bouncing around between the salon in Waldorf and one off Telegraph road since that's where I find myself commuting between the most. I stopped into Color Nails last night because I needed a new full set of pink and whites - I had my pink and whites refilled this past Saturday at Glam Nail Salon off Telegraph Road, and the woman messed my set up so bad that they were beyond repairing (though they didn't charge me and offered to fix for free but I passed). I ended up getting Kathy as my tech, who has been there for a while. She gently took off my old set and asked me if I'd like to try out the new powder system they have called SNS (Signature Nail Systems) - it's a healthy, organic approach to putting an overlay on your nails that has no acrylic and no harsh chemicals. It allows your nails to breathe and grow naturally and can be used with tips. I'm an adventurous kind of gal so I said sure. I am SO, so glad that she talked me into this - my nails look amazing! (I've posted pics) Basically how it works is there are layers of healthy nail gel and powder that go on top of each other. They cure and harden, then get buffed and coated with a finishing gel coat that will make them super shiny. They are much, much thinner than regular acrylics and gels. I am in LOVE. The charge for the take off and new set was $50, which is comparable to the regular pink and whites. I can't wait to go back. I don't think I will ever get any other type of nail service besides the SNS again. Please don't tell my regular nail technician that I cheated on her. But it was an emergency and I was in DC for a conference. Reasonable pricing and my no chip French manicure looks fabulous. The icing on the cake was the peppermint neck and shoulder massage they gave me. Oh my goodness!!! I fell asleep right in the chair! After failing miserably at finding a place to do my nails and pedi like I want them done, I've *mostly* found a good place. I've been here a few times and some of the techs are better than others. The last person did a relatively crappy job on my nails but it wasn't heinous. The pedicure chairs here are the best ever. They are AMAZING. Seriously. They've created an environment that is semi-spa like (but only barely) so they can charge more money. That being said, don't mind paying a little extra for quality work. I ended up with 2 broken nails (because of aforementioned crappy nail job) so when I go in today I'll see if I can get the one who does the stellar job. The place I went to for years on end before moving was always very personable and this place isn't. Seems more like the 'factory' nail salon we see a lot of. So if you want warm and fuzzy this may not be your cup o'tea. Still though, I plan on continuing to go here...at least they know how to do gel nails! read more

When I asked her if she could use a pumice stone or another tool to get the skin off of the bottom of my feet, she acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. She just kept on trying to paint my toenails and i continued to ask her to use a tool to get the dead skin off of my feet. Now, I still have dead skin on the bottom of my feet and it doesn't feel like I got a pedicure at all. I don't normally leave reviews, however I felt inclined to do so for this place. I am new to the area and needed to find a nail place to get my nails done for my friends wedding. My bf helped me find a new nail place to try that was close, which happened to be Color Nails. First, I will definitely say the place is decorated beautifully, very clean, and the technicians were very polite. The ambiance was very warm and welcoming. Sadly, this is all the positivity I can say about this place. I walked in and requested a gel manicure on my natural nails and a gel pedicure. I walked away with a $97 bill which included a $5 tip. First, I've never in my life paid $52 for a gel pedicure! When did pedicures start costing more than a full set acrylic manicure?! Second, the nail technician Lisa, applied 3 coats of gel polish to both my feet and hands due to the color being light. Even after the 3 coats you can still see through the polish and my nails were paper thin! I've never had an issue with thin nails considering my nails have always been strong and the technician even complimented on how strong and healthy my nails were. Needless to say in less than 24 hours 3 of my nails broke! I ended up having to cut them all down to make them even which is way to short for my liking! My nails were so thin they clipped off so easily for 3 coats of gel polish! I was so disappointed!!! The first picture is the my left hand prior to clipping my nails. Second picture is my right hand after 3 broken nails. And the last picture is my nails clipped! Idk if I'm more upset at the fact that I got my nails done for my friends wedding and the look like absolute crap, wasting $97, or the fact that my nails are so short! So ive been coming to color nails since i was 16 now im 23. I love the work cindy does with my nails. But im so disappointed with them. Ive had issues with them but i have just ignored them. But the last experience just made me decide that im never going to go back and also told my sister and mom who get there sns and pedicures done on a regular basis. Before when they weren't as busy they were very nice but now since they get more customers they just rush. I got married this year 2017 in april. I always go to cindy i made my appointment for sns and pedicure and wax for lip eyebrow and chin. I also take my mother, two sisters, aunt, step daughter, and niece to get there nails done. Most of service was sns and pedicure (good money for them). We all where there at once my family with other technicians. When my daughter sister and niece where done, they of course where waiting inside the nail salon for us to be finished. The owner comes by and tells them to move because other customers where coming in. Like really, so rude we giving you more then 500.00 just my family. Appreciate! Thats wasn't it, i get my nails done and i never got told that for my shape its 5$ more, weird thing is that every time i went i always got the same service but price always changed. I was upset because they had never told me. Plus it was my wedding and i brought you money and no consideration at all. No customer service here. I let that go its what ever. I myself that day spent around 250.00 for sns pedicure and eyebrows and lip. But the last thing that got me very upset, and honestly i never do reviews. But i hope these people (owner and technicians) see this so they can change. Get some training in customer service and show exactly on there price menu the correct prices. I went to get lip and eyebrow wax, they where busy. The receptionist told me to wait around 15 minutes. Im like ok ill wait but 30 minutes pass and no one. I go up to her and ask her how much longer. Why is that, because face wax is more money then lip and eyebrows. Who cares if i was waiting there for 30 min. The other person was going to give her more money. I first started patronizing Color Nails when Kevin opened the salon in 2004. I started seeing Lisa and was extremely pleased with the services that she provided me (mani/pedi with sea salt added on). When she traveled to Vietnam that summer I went to Cindy. She also has always done an amazing job on my nails. Both technicians are professional and fluent English speakers. Both are meticulous about their work, spending copious amounts of time on message, trimming, grading off dead foot skin, and painting in the lines of my nails. The salon is clean and the atmosphere is relaxing. It is now 2018, while I did take a break and frequent another technician for four years. She has since left the profession and I have returned to primarily Lisa, but also Cindy. I am surprised to read negative reviews about either woman, as I know them both so well. This is a small shop hidden on Richmond Highway near a couple of shopping centers. I decided to try this place a few years ago after my hair stylist suggested it. To be honest, you can't expect every single nail to be perfect, so I try not to be so technical with the changes to my nails. But every time I do make a comment about the shape, it is always fixed with satisfaction. I have a love affair with the SNS powder nails and it is a pricy habit but really worth the quality and long wear. They have a super large selection of colors, ladies be prepared to be indecisive! I used to get gel manicure and a regular pedi before I started paying the big bucks for SNS. I was usually able to get the exact same color for my pedicure which is huge bonus if you are a stickler like me about those things. I have been Lisa's customer for almost 2 years. But she always had attitudes. Today I called color Bails asked for appointment. The lady on the phone asked me to hold the phone and after checking with Lisa, she gave me an appointment at 12. Five minutes later Lisa called me and asked me to come earlier. I was trying to explain her very politely that the lady who picked up the phone seemed to have checked with her so why they did not tell me that they can't see me at 12 in the first place.
