Totally scammed by Sunrise Vision/Colorado Eye Center Totally got scammed by the doctor who insisted that I was medically eligible for contacts. She said it'd be covered by insurance. I insisted I didn't want contacts, I only wanted basic lensed glasses. Nothing special. She insisted on giving me a readers prescription -I am legally blind in my left eye. I will never use readers because I can't see with them. She insisted. I go to leave and she mentions the contacts, I ask her are there any extra costs. "Oh no, everything is covered" I insisted that I don't want to pay for any of this. I don't need them. Got a bill last month, I'm pissed. Beware of their underlying bullshit. I should've listened to my gut and told her to buzz off So beware, they will scam you with the comfortable insistence that it'll be all good and bill you for hidden fees read more

First appointment June 2023 - told them I wanted "the works - every eye exam". Bill was $316, but felt like it was worth it. In August, I needed a form signed that I had had an eye exam in the last 6 months. I brought the fillled-in form in to be signed and was told that the doctor wasn't in but would be in the next day and I should come back in 2 days and pick up the signed form. So I came back in 2 days and they had lost the form. But I was prepared with another form filled out except for the signature of the eye doctor. Alas, that doctor wasn't in and ... oopsie ... they said I needed ANOTHER eye exam $$$ (despite having the "works" done a couple of months ago) and then the eye doctor might sign the paper on Friday and then they'd maybe email it to me. Good grief. So I won't be back - had much better exams and service at LensCrafters. read more

Two stars because the optician Tara, and the front desk person Tiffany are kind, thoughtful and attentive, even when it's busy. I had my appointment last week, and the place was crowded with people waiting. I felt that the doctor was rushing through explanations, and the assistant had to take the pictures of the back of my eyes twice. My appointment started late, and I ended up not buying glasses that day because I had to get to class. I'll give them another chance, but only because of the experience I had with Tara and Tiffany. read more

I've been Dr. Olson's patient for 3 years. Doctors are great! They have a new extremely inexperienced front desk person, Alexis. She kept putting me on hold and disconnecting me so I went there to make an appointment. After my appointments, one of my prescriptions wasn't ready. She told me that she will email me with my prescription when I text their phone number. She never responded to my text nor messages. Even being unhappy with Alexis, I tried to understand their circumstances like short and new staffs. Putting patient/customers on hold and hanging up is not okay more than perhaps an accidental one time. I have never dealt with this unpleasant experience with Sunrise Vision Care before. Doctors are great but it is not worth and time to deal with this person. However, Tara (glasses center lady) was very kind. read more

The staff are very friendly and maybe I just got unlucky but my contacts and glasses prescription were recorded wrong. The contacts prescription was fixed right away and they made sure to help me when I went back to the office but by the time I bought glasses a few months later it became clear that that prescription was wrong too. It was too late for them to fix it without charging me for a whole new visit (no longer covered by insurance) so I switched to a new doctor. read more

Both my husband and I have been going to this office for over a decade and really loved Drs Wharton and Potter. Unfortunately, after they left things have really declined. I was late for my appointment -totally my fault- I called when I realized I was going to be late to see if I should reschedule or come in late. I was told go ahead and come in- drove 20 miles to get there only to be told the doctor recommended I reschedule (they allow for 15 minutes late, I was literally 17 minutes late) Poorly run and poor communication- time to find a new ophthalmologist! read more

After being cared for over five years, I was summarily discharged as a difficult patient based on the erroneous report of a staff member re my demeanor on a phone call. The allegations were never proven, the staff member was fired at 3 months of service. No apology made and no help to accommodate a subpar prescription. As well as a charge for contact lens fitting which was never delivered. Regardless of technical expertise, customer service is very unprofessional and lacking. read more

5 stars for an even better experience than last time. Great staff, great selection of frames, great offering of modern technology. I came here for my annual eye appointment (though I was about 6 months late). I had a wonderful experience here when I first got glasses and this check up was even better. First off: they have really cool technology here. Okay, well it's not insanely cool, but it is better than most places. You can book appointments fully via email. They are very quick and courteous in their responses. You can get text, email, or phone reminders for your appointments. When you arrive they know who they are expecting and so they greet you by name (I know this is a little thing, but it makes for awesome customer service). They had me fill in some paperwork about any health changes since my last time in, but they used a laminated paper with a dry erase pen. While not a tech solution, I did find this to be nice as opposed to wasting pages and pages of paper. When it was time for me to go back, Heather, one of the techs, brought me to this new machine they have. I don't remember the name of it but it was sweet. They use it to take a picture of your full eye so that they don't have to dilate them. Way cool. I hate dilating my eyes. The machine was kinda tricky at first to get right. You had to push your face into it but not too far. Heather walked me through the whole thing. She also answered all me geeky questions about how the machine works. Using this machine is a $39 up charge but well worth it. I saw Dr. Olson this time around. He was awesome. Super friendly and funny. I felt comfortable talking to him the whole time. I appreciated how thorough he was and how he answered all of my questions. He went over the pictures of my eyes and told me what he looked for. Looking at them was trippy for sure, but a cool experience. I'm glad he knows what to look for, I had know idea what it all meant. After my appointment was done, I wanted some new frames. They have a very large selection here; maybe other places have more but I don't know why you would need more choices. Luckily, everyone at Sunrise is willing to help you pick out the best frames. I probably spent an hour and a half trying pairs on (those poor people). The woman assisting me was very good at knowing what might look good and kept bringing over options to try on. She also helped me narrow them down in the end. They had a deal going that offered 50% off a second pair so I got some sunglasses as well. I do not have a good frame of reference on pricing of their frames, but it seems like they have somewhat frequent deals or offers running. 5 stars well deserved on this visit! This place is one of the best optometrist i've been to in the past 12 years. WHY you ask? I was able to walk in and pick out a pair of glasses with no effort. Found my pair, sat down with a consultant and they were able to request my prescription from another state. Within 30 mins I was out of there. They were able to get my glasses ready within 7 business days compare to most places that takes up to 2 weeks. The prices are more than fair. I absolutely love Sunrise Vision Care! After moving to Boulder (I've worked here for several years but only just moved into town), I wanted to find an eye doctor that would be nearby both my home and work: Sunrise Vision Care fit that bill and had many great reviews. So I called them up and was provided with a lot of detailed information, which I appreciated. I found them friendly, helpful, and responsive. Plus, for the first time in many, many years, I was actually subjected to many different eye tests; some I had never had before, and others I hadn't had since grade school. It was extremely interesting, and I appreciated their thoroughness! Finally, I wanted to say that Dr. Karen Wharton is phenomenal, and such a lovely person with a warm personality. Honestly I can say that this was my favorite eye doctor experience and I will be back in the future! EDIT: I wanted to also add that the front desk has all been absolutely phenomenal too, something that isn't always true at many places. They ALWAYS get back to me, always answer the phone, and always promptly respond to any email requests I send off to them. Although Dr. Jacinta Young is an adequate eye care practitioner, I am disappointed in the direction Sunrise Vision Care has gone since being run by the Colorado Eye Care Center. During the course of my exam, Dr. Young marketed and pushed 3 different unnecessary, expensive procedures and/or tools that could and should be purchased through Sunrise Vision Care, which NEVER happened when I visited Dr. Karen Wharton. As a "self-pay" client, I am sensitive about the cost of all the NECESSARY vision products that I need, namely contacts, which between the eye exam and purchasing a year supply of contacts is over $1,000. Special tools and procedures like a "reusable" q-tip, an eye procedure called "LipiFlow," and some expensive supplements called "MacuHealth," were all marketed to me during the course of my exam. This felt uncomfortable for me not only because of the cost, but also because it was evident that Sunrise Vision has become a corporate eye care center, and is no longer an honest, friendly, family practice. I am not sure I will be going back. read more

I can't say enough about the awesome service I've received at Sunrise Vision Care. I have walked in there several times needing adjustments to my glasses and Terrence, one of their amazing opticians, has always been available, quite friendly and very helpful. On one occasion, he was able to miraculously fix some frames that I thought I had damaged well beyond repair. Dr. Olson was great. I asked a lot of technical questions, and got patient, detailed answers that were spot on to what I was asking. He also used the equipment to show me what my current glasses' prescription is and what my new prescription will be, so I can see the difference between the two. I felt like he went above and beyond to share and explain information to me, which is very important to me. It also shows his expertise in his field, paying attention to the details that makes him good at what he does. On top of all of that, he's extremely friendly, I never felt rushed, and he went out of his way to follow up with me with an explanation of the optimap results, even though the results all checked out fine. Dr. Olson is an amazingly friendly person! He was so easy to chat with during the appointment and gave me all of the info I needed in a way I could understand but explained it thoroughly. The optician in the (Tara) was SO helpful in picking out my glasses. She was very fun to hang out with and have me extremely honest opinions about what I was trying on. They had a BOGO 50% off so I got 2 pairs and they came in so fast! I also love that you can book online. Dr. Joshua Olson has now replaced Dr. Potter who I used to see at Sunrise Vision. I had an eye exam this week with Dr. Olson and really enjoyed the experience. They have a new high tech machine to image the back of the eye -- if you choose this route, it's an extra $39, but you don't need to do the dilating eye drops and they get a better picture of the back of the eye. Well worth it, in my opinion. They also save these pictures in your record to watch for changes over time. What I liked best about Dr. Olson is that he really takes the time to explain things at your appointment. It's refreshing to actually sit and talk with a doc when you have questions or there are things that warrant further explanation. The receptionist described Dr. Olson as similar to Dr. Potter (who I loved) and she was right. Very pleasant experience and I would recommend these guys. read more

I just moved to the Boulder area a few months ago. I went from seeing the same eye doctor for 20 years to not knowing where to start in looking for a new doctor. Sunrise Vision Care really made this process as easy as possible. When I called to set up an appointment, the lady I spoke with was extremely helpful and kind. I explained my situation and that I was nervous to see a new doctor. She was incredibly reassuring, helped explain exactly what I was looking at as far as appointment cost based on my insurance, and was able to get me in very quickly. The tech that started my appointment, Victoria, was kind and thorough. She answered all of my questions and noted all of my concerns. My appointment with Dr. Yeung was amazing, I shouldn't have even been nervous! She explained everything to me so well that I feel like I know my own eyes better than ever! She made sure I fully understood everything she was telling me about my eye health. The lady that checked my appointment out was also very helpful and kind. Our entire family have been patients for many years. Dr. Potter and Dr. Wharton go the extra mile to work with your needs and get things right. Recently, my teenage daughter wanted to get colored contacts to wear to a special event. I was worried about ordering them off the internet, so I contacted Dr. Potter. Sunrise stands out from other practitioners, both on the O.D. and optometry fronts. On the one hand you have large corporate HMO doctors that give the bare minimum and then see you out the door, on the other there are the multitudes of independent practices vying for the business of those more discriminating. The problem is that so many of the independent practices are becoming small chains and are attracting the corporate think and marketing hype that turned so many away before. Luckily, there are still a few places to turn to for individualized care with real expertise. Sunrise may appear nondescript outwardly, but once you are inside it is apparent that your vision needs and overall health are the priority. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. For those who dread the "puff of air", fear not, that machine is not used, but instead replaced with a wand-like contraption that you'll barely feel. Similarly, the office is equipped with a later generation retina photography device that is much easier on the patient, and produces photographs with less odd angles or eyelashes obscuring the view. The care from Dr. Wharton is personable, but thorough and precise. Bring questions if you have concerns, and expect reasoned and descriptive answers. The optical side of the house brings a high level of knowledge and experience to bear. They provide their own experiences with the products and the feedback from previous consumers/patients to help you make informed decisions from the myriad of lens types, coatings and sun glass tints. I'll leave the frames to the individual as tastes in this arena are far more subjective. That said, I'm sure a reader can tell from my tone, I like simple and elegant solutions that put function before form. I found what I needed and I was able to please both the Dr. Wharton and my wife by adding sun glass clips to help protect my eyesight for years to come (this was a compromise on my part as sun glasses have always seemed a fashion accessory before). If you are concerned with your health and want a comprehensive experience from human beings that treat you as such, and not an assembly line process then Sunrise is the place to go. read more

I agree that Dr. Wharton is very nice and takes time with her patients. I wish I could give her a high rating. However, she prescribed glasses for me that gave me headaches. I only got the headaches when I wore the glasses. Nevertheless, she told me the glasses could not be the cause because they were the right prescription, and she suggested I see an MD for the headaches. Instead I went to another optometrist who told me that the right and left prescriptions had been reversed. I got new glasses made and now no headaches. read more

We've gone here several times for both exams and glasses. The staff is very attentive and friendly. I've never felt oversold or taken advantage of. The doctor is honest and direct, and I love that as I'm not left wondering if I need to read between the lines, no pun intended. When buying glasses, the ladies are great at proving opinions and feedback. They are also quick to offer suggestions for price savings or how to better apply your insurance. They are also very, very patient should you try on every model in the store... My glasses arrived with a funny spot on the lens. Even though the machine said it was right, they believed me and called the company to get a new set of lens. Their customer service is top notch and I appreciate the time they gave me to ensure I was happy and comfortable with my glasses. I created an account to post this review. A few weeks ago, I had a problem with my contact lens that caused me immense amounts of pain. Not being from Boulder, I had no where to go, so I hit the internet with one eye open calling the highest rated optometrists that take my insurance. Recognizing the amount of pain I was in, the office made room for me that afternoon. Over the next 4 days I was in the office 3 times following up (standard protocol, I checked with several friends in the biz). Each time I went in, the staff, assistants and docs were extremely friendly and sympathetic. They successfully diagnosed and treated my eye issue and I made a full recovery with no permanent vision loss. I could not be happier with this experience and will use them for all of my future vision needs. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Wharton since I was a kid and recently went through PRK surgery and an eye trauma shortly thereafter and was treated by Dr. Potter.
