I happened to be on Facebook one afternoon after having a suddenly clear schedule, and boom! This ADORABLE little face popped up in my feed. I felt like the Grinch, my heart swelling up to three times its normal size. I wanted, no, NEEDED this puppy. I don't know what I was thinking. I had a senior cat, 2 other dogs, was recovering from a severe injury, and was also a full time graduate student in Boulder. Yeah. But that FACE. It spoke to me. After discussing it with my husband, we decided it would be worth making the effort to add to our family. We contacted MFDM, and put in our application. Sadly, the little face we fell in love with went to a family that same day. We were CRUSHED. Lets recap: Thursday - no interest in getting a new dog. Friday - fall in love with dog. Saturday - learn dog is not available. Be sad. Sad sad sad. Sunday morning, we were still sad....and then my phone rang. It was the Fairy Dawg Mother herself!!! She was calling to let me know that the little face I fell in love with was being returned to his foster home, because he wasn't a fit for the family that wanted him originally. My husband and I were OVERJOYED. This wasn't a simple "ok, lets go see him" - we KNEW he was meant to be ours. We drove to the foster's home that afternoon, and welcomed our new handsome boy into our lives. Now - it's easy enough to say that it's a great story to meet the dog we love. But even better, here is what made it worth adopting from MFDM: 1. The focus is on finding the RIGHT home for the dog. When my boy's potential parents decided he wasn't the right fit, MFDM took him back ASAP. 2. Foster care, not shelter care. The dogs brought under the MFDM umbrella are immediately cared for in homes, given training, and integration into a pack. This is good, because that means they don't suffer any more. Many of the dogs are rescued from high stress/high kill shelters. It's a lot of work to go from that environment to a house/family setting. 3. The rescue is small and personalized. No large corporate style structure here, where checkboxes and numbers are the primary motivation. They are all about the dogs. 4. Small, but professional. Each dog is microchipped, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered, and all pet parents are advised about responsible pet ownership. When you adopt from MFDM, you become a part of their family, whether you want to or not! They are here for the dogs, first and foremost. Well, we did change his name, though…read more Max to Maxx to honor the dog named for the meeting room we met in.;-) And he just requested we add another name so he is MISO HAPPY. Because he is. I am, too. ;) Room 19 on 4/19, Patriots' Day. Ortensio as the male version of Ortensia, the hyacinth flower name from the Humane Colorado woman who is from Barcelona. Ortensia orchestrated my having first visit with Maxx. The couple who signed in before me as I was negotiating finding a shoe substitute (it took me awhile) kindly said "He's yours." How right they were. How right was Ortensia. And Miso for the soup I was to deliver but the friend was too sick so I went to the Humane Society instead. Six year old Maxx entered the room. After 5 days of yapping at visitors he quietly sat at my feet for a bit ....and then jumped into my arms and fell asleep as I patted him. With a calm reserve. Welcome home, Maxx! Their dogs are healthy, and were abandoned by previous owners, meaning they might take longer to bond to you than other dogs, but they wound up really sweet. The dogs are average price, and they have a very neat doggo area, with a big area where they take the dogs and pop them in there with you to see if they might like you.

The director said the cat she was interested in wasn't up for adoption yet and she would have to wait. After many days of my mom calling and talking to the lady she basically said that the cat was already hers she just had to wait for him to be available. Today my mom called the shelter again and the director said THAT THEY GAVE THE CAT AWAY!!!! my mom was so devastated. We just lost our family dog and she was so excited and looking forward to getting a new cat. The director said it was because they had heard my mom say she was going to make it an outdoor cat, WHICH IS COMPLETELY FALSE. first, my mom would never do that. She specifically wants a cuddly indoor kitty as a companion, second the shelter specifically said she cant have an outdoor cat and my mom agreed with that part of the contract. It makes absolutely no sense. I could tell from the very beginning something was off about this rescue and I was right. I'm not sure what they're doing over there but whatever it is it's not good. We will probably be getting in contact with a lawyer. DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE!!!

This was about 2 days before Christmas. I was contacted by one of their adoption coordinators not long after and by New Year's Day I was having a meet-and-greet with my potential kitty. Meet and greet went awesome and I signed the adoption papers that day. In less than a week I'd found my new buddy! The adoption cost ($75) covered neuter, vaccines, microchip and more. I felt great knowing I was rescuing a safe and healthy animal. His foster mom was fantastic as were all the Pawsco people I interacted with. Everyone was very helpful and responsive - it was an easy process and I would recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a pet.

YAY! I get to finally write a review on 4P4L!!…read more We found 4P4L due to a Petfinder search back in 2021. The dog we initially adopted wasn't good with our cats even though he was fine in his foster home with the resident cat. 4P4L understood and we were able to return him. They had asked me to write an updated bio for him so that potential adopters would get a better understanding of his demeanor. He was such a sweet dog but my cats weren't his thing, which wasn't his fault in the slightest. I wrote the bio and he got adopted. I was then asked to volunteer and become a foster, so we started fostering. A 3 day sleepover for a foster pup is how we started and since 2021, we have fostered over 100 dogs and volunteer at adoption events. While it is so tempting to adopt all our fosters, we know we're just helping them adjust to home life. There have been a few that we invoked the 6 month rule: if we have the pup for 6 months, we would adopt him/her because at 6 months, you're a part of our pack. Last month, there was a need to foster these 2 rottie pups because it was time for them to separate from their momma and momma needed a break. Rotties are one of our preferred breeds! Well, we invoked the 6 DAY rule knowing that the pups would be adopted within the week. So that's it! That's how we got our Saoirse! Even if you cannot adopt, please think about volunteering with us or becoming a foster! A little weekend break from the kennel is what all the dogs need and you may just invoke your own 6 day rule!!
