Great salon!! The salon has a very boutique-y feel inside, and it was busy when I got there for my 5PM appointment (which I consider a positive). Alexis cut and styled my hair, and it came out beautiful. She offered to style it any way I like - curl, blow out, whatever - and took the time to make sure the cut was perfect post-blow out. I made my appointment about a month in advance with Kelsie. I chose Kelsie based on a photo the salon posted on Instagram because what she had done was exactly the look I was going for. I had never colored my hair before so I was a bit nervous. I have very dark brown hair and I wanted a hair painting to go lighter - almost blonde - at the ends and heard horror stories about brunettes wanting to go blonde. Kelsie perfectly executed the color and it looked amazing - I couldn't have been more happy with it. I'll definitely be going back this summer to get my hair painting done again! Terrible experience is an understatement! I signed up for the membership during previous ownership in 2013, when the business was ran by normal people. My stylist was John, an amazing , caring and gifted professional. In July 2014 , when I scheduled my monthly appointment, I was told , to my surprise, that John no longer works there and that the facility is under new ownership. I was skeptical, since I trusted John's expert hands, however, I agreed to try another stylist. That is when the nightmare started. My hair was destroyed in the following 3 appointments, due to the advice , greediness disregard and inexperience of the new owners. First my membership was raised from $49 to $99 monthly. Then my hair was permed, because I asked for more bounciness and volume. The perm was a disaster, which I had to live with for a week, in order o get a keratin treatment to tame it down. As this was not enough, when I went to color my roots, my hair was bleached by Heather without my consent. Luckily, I had my daughter accompany me to my appointment and she realized that my hair is getting blond instead of my usual dark brown color. I confronted Heather right away and she washed it out and according to her applied the right color. Long story short, I walked out of there with puke green, severely damaged hair, which took several month to correct. I attempted to contact the owners at no avail. My phone calls were never returned and my $99 membership continued to be billed to my AMEX till 1/15, when I blocked this merchant from charging my card. Furthermore, during my keratin treatment, I complimented Sam, one of the new owners on their high client volume. She tried to convince me to adopt their business model for the spa I own, model which she was willing to disclose for $6,000.00/ month, with a 6 month commitment. Wow! I thanked her and told her that I clearly cannot afford her expertise. I am very disappointed and clearly would not recommend this salon to anyone. read more

The WORST salon!!! BEWARE!!!! I try to give a salon a chance, especially when it's close and convenient, but this salon is AWFUL. Anjelica completely colored my blonde hair dark brown when I asked for low lights, (I should've left then) and then Jess gave me brassy highlights when I asked for a partial highlight job AND made me wait THREE HOURS for those brassy highlights! When I asked the manager to fix the mistake and told her I was leaving thereafter she refused to have the mistake repaired, and said too bad so sad because I said was done. Worst still the owner never even asked to see my hair, really? UGH!! Disgusting place, do not go!!! read more

Went here last weekend with my friend before a wedding. They lost my appointment, but squeezed me in. It was a bit like an assembly line - the hair washers were very fast and rushed. Both my friend and I HATED our hair. We both requested basic blow outs with some curls. The left side of my friend's hair came out bent, and when she asked the girl to fix it, it remained bent. By the time we got to the hotel, one side of her hair was straight and the other side was still bent. During the blow out, my hair kept getting caught in the brush. I went to ColorBar for a cut,color, and blow out. I purchased a Groupon for this for 49.00. I was new to the place and very excited to get the above done, as I hadn't been to the salon in quite some time. When I arrived, Jade asked me what I wanted. I told her shorter in the back and angled towards the front with long layers framing the face. Basically, a graduated bob. She said "your hair is thin, kinky and broken, I can only do so much." How can hair be thin AND kinky, I wondered?! She then said "do you always wait so long between colors?" I told her that I had been ill, undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, so I couldn't get my hair colored. She just said "Oh." There were to be no words of sympathy or encouragement from Jade. She proceeded to talk to the other stylist, Allie, who was working at the next station, loudly and in my ear, about her boyfriend who is "British and from Texas, so he has, like, a british southern accent. It's really, like, weird" I wanted to leave the salon right then and there, but decided to stick it out. She also said that she was going to "emulsify" the bottom of my hair, and gave a very jumbled, convoluted explananation of what this meant. I asked her if it differed in any qualitative fashion from a single process color on the whole head and she just rambled on about Groupon, and how "we don't make any money from this and I am going to cut the ends off anyway" and so on and blah blah blah. She sat me under the dryer for 20 minutes, not offering a magazine, so I had to go find one back by the seating area. There was a screaming toddler and a mother sitting on a chair in the washing station breast feeding her baby, which did not bother me one bit, compared to the stress I was feeling from Jade. At the end, I was told to look up and saw that the length was too short and the bottom of my hair was flipping up. It looks very 1960's. When I asked Jade why this was, she said"your hair just does that." I also said that I wanted it to the shoulder and she argued with me regarding where the shouilder is. As an ER nurse, I think I know where the shoulder is. Jade put her hands firmly around my neck and I said, laughing nervously "don't strangle me!" Jade is a very angry person. I wonder what happened in her life to make her that way. Finally, I said,"well, its just hair." And this made Jade go ballistic crazy. She squeezed her hand into a tight, angry fist 2 or 3 times and went to get my coat. I turned in my Groupon and left. This was a horrible experience. Jade is a left over Mean Girl from high school, who is a talentless, and, possibly, souless woman. She feels threatened if you ask her a question about what she is doing. She referred to someone, in conversation, as "ugly." As adults, who refers to people as ugly? It is very 7th grade. Jade lacks warmth, compassion, humor, and intelligence as a stylist..I would not recommend Jade at ColorBar the Salon to my worst enemy. She was that bad. Really.It's just not worth it. read more

The Colorbar in Spring Lake offered one of the most genuinely refreshing salon experiences I've had in a very long time! As a resident of the shore area I've tried countless local salons in an effort to support my community. I've generally left these salons somewhat dissatisfied, feeling there was something lacking in the experience, whether it be the professionalism of the staff, the ability of the stylist or the general condescending attitude displayed. I never felt that the services warranted the price charged nor the generous tip I felt required to leave. A friend had recommended The Colorbar. Her hair always looked great, so I figured I'd give it a try.... The Colorbar offers a completely welcoming, comfortable and professional experience. I was impressed right from the start. When calling for an appointment and info on their unique "Membership" program I was delighted with the receptionist's knowledge as well as her friendly and accommodating demeanor. I was initially hesitant to sign up for the membership program, however after my first cut, color and blow out I WAS SOLD! The stylist I've used is extensively trained and offers unique style options. She is a true professional and is concerned with my complete satisfaction. Once, when she was ill and had to call out, they offered to reschedule or to have another stylist. I figured I'd try the other and was 110% pleased with her services as well! She matched my color perfect and honestly the best blow out I ever got. Note: I have very thick and curly hair so it's not easy to manage. She wasn't intimidated at all and did an amazing job. This place is so cut rate. I would not go there ever again. I went on a Groupon and while I was there there wasn't any hot water. The place was packed, and I might as well have gone to the mall and taken a ticket. The managerfrom at the desk I am assuming it was a manager was getting her own hair done, (REALLY?!) jumped up to check the computer behind the desk and then sat back in the stylist chair. They use these paper things for your collar instead of a towel, don't waste your time with signing up and getting locked into their contract club they probably won't be there much longer treating customers this way. I expected more for Sea Girt, but I guess you get what you pay for, customers will get the drift and stop going. I gave it a one star because you have to or I would not have given any. read more

I went back in October 2011 to Colorbar (I know, this is so after the fact) because I got an awesome GroupOn deal (color, cut, and blowout for $60 with a $25 gift card for my next visit). Jade cut my hair phenomenally, however, my color was sooooooo dark. I really don't personally blame her because I didn't ask to see any swatches, all I requested was a rich brown to cover my highlights and give me something that would be appropriate for winter. My color came out about 2 shades above black. I didn't complain however, because I didn't notice how dark it really was until I came home hours later and was not in the direct sunlight. I was not about to drive another hour (each way) back to the salon, and I didn't want my hair stripped. I just dealt with it and got used to it and it faded. I'm planning on going back next month to get my hair done by Jade again, complete with pictures and ideas of what I want. The salon was beautiful and clean. I bought this on a groupon. and even with the deal i was out 180 bucks with highlights that are pumpkin orange because the young girl didnt listen to me and let it lift. I cannot believe they even let me walk out like that, never mind PAY xtra for it, the trick??? Owner says " join our club and i will wave the money". Well, do you really think im coming back when i left with orange streaks in my hair?? My groupon was for 205 dollars and i had to add another 65. and STILL need another hairdresser before Christmas eve to fix it! Im furious! read more

Warning DO NOT get you hair {chopped I mean} cut there. The young girl who cut my hair spent little if any time asking me what I would like. She cut my hair in two layers. {Joan Jett style} It looked like an ugly hat on my head. No skill seemed to be involved. When she said she was finished with the blow out I couldn't believe she was serious. I requested a more polished look but with the cut she was unable to give a proper blow out. For several years, I tried to like this place. I tend to be extremely loyal. Hair services have been variable, overall ok. With extremely few exceptions, various people at the front desk proved to lack basic customer care skills and to excel in "attitude". The last time, I walked in to make an appointment, not busy, nobody else was waiting, I greeted, no reply. I stood and waited. Front desk person was busy with cell phone. No greeting, no smile, no 1-second to say " I'll be with you shortly", no sign that she acknowledged I was there, in spite of giving me a brief, mask-like look. Hmm, perhaps I was invisible that day. I kept standing in front of her, almost amused of her stupefying behavior. Then, I got bored of waiting and left to get a nice hair service at another salon. Good bye. read more

My hairstylist moved to a different state and I was in dire need of some highlights to perk me up a bit. While scrolling through Facebook one day I came across a video of Nicole doing a hair painting, I was intrigued to say at the least. I was skeptical and had to see what all this fuss was about with the new hair trend "hair painting"... Despite being well over my hair budget I figured I'd give Nicole at the Colorbar a try. My first time at the Colorbar and I had a full hair painting, olaplex treatment, toner and hair cut, with tip it was about $300. I was thrilled with my hair painting, Nicole did an absolutely amazing job! Nicole is personable, friendly, listens to exactly what you want gives you her professional opinion with what would work best with your hair type and color. However, I did take off 1 star for the cleanliness or lack their of, of the salon bathroom. It needs a good cleaning, for a upscale salon where I'm paying $200+ which is ran by mostly women. I joined their membership a few years ago and have been coming here ever since, wouldn't go anywhere else. I've used almost everyone in the salon for blow outs and was never disappointed. I get my color touch ups done every 3 weeks and my hair is not the least bit damaged. In fact it always looks great and I get lots of compliments. The staff is friendly and courteous and always make sure you are comfortable. The decor is nice and it is always clean. I adore Angelica and she is my go to stylist so I try to book in advance to avoid conflicts. I travel about 30 minutes to this salon but I have tried so many others closer to home and have never been as satisfied. Megan's smiling face at the front desk, Angela's (Selena Gomez look alike) spa like hair washing to Angelica's magical hair wonders and everyone's shining personalities make this is my go to feel great place.
