Food and service have improved with recent trips. Great family atmosphere with mix of booths and tables. The Tanglers are a great app as they're thinner onion rings (the blooming onion is good too if you prefer the onion pedals). Steaks are great! Recommend the filet. Came with my Family. The steak was great and sides were pretty good too. The children's steak tips were not good though. They seemed to have been microwaved in a bag. TLDR review - better than your average steakhouse. Colton's is a small chain steakhouse, but they are legit competition to any of the big chains. Plus, they still give you a bucket of peanuts to much on before your meals. That's definitely something to be aware of is there are allergies or you just don't want to eat a pound of addictive peanuts. The selection of steaks is pretty good, but there is still a decent selection of other items. In a group of 6, everyone had something different and everyone said it was good. Some people wanted to come back the next night and try something different. The beer selection is light, but decent. We never got to dessert, because the portions were good and well...peanuts. Overall, recommended. Will eat here again when we're in town. read more

Fantastic. I'm super critical most of the time but $50 for 2 of us with drinks and everything was delicious. The kicker tea was strong but well made and the steak tips were all tender. Today after helping my mom with my grandmas trailer we went out to lunch at Coltens in Jeff. We had just ordered when a women yelled help couple of times my husband is chocking. No one else budge except us. My husband, my mom and myself went into action. I called 911 while my husband got the man onto the floor. My mom turned him on his side while checking for his pulse and we don't think he was choking, it was definitely seemed like something else like seizure. The staff finally came after a solid 10 mins to assist. One waitress gave CPR and mouth to mouth. However, the manager never came to check on anyone didn't talk to us after the fact and seemed as they didn't care. We felt like we were being rushed to leave. They didn't offer anything as for % off or free food and we had cold food. I will never eat here again. We saved someone tonight and we just wanted gratitude and appreciation. Nope we will not be going there again. I couldn't believe people just set there like deer in headlights. I would suggest to give the women who helped a promotion or raise and fire the manager who didn't give two shits. It was the worst experience I've ever witnessed and it wasn't the man who needed help it was the inconsiderate people. I was trying my best not to come on here and bash on other restaurant, but things need to be handled. My experience here was given the bare minimum, starting off with the bread YOU SHOULD NEVER GIVE ANYONE ANYTHING WITH MOLD ON IT !! but sadly that's what we were given. Now the main course, four people at my table ordered the same pasta and they were all given with the taste of burntness like they were rubbed on a dirty grill before being handed to us and when we alerted that our food tasted burnt the lady just sat there and laughed. The only good part about the visit was that after we complained the woman offered us something different. I feel they as that they should take some time to better their restaurant than have people dying from food poisoning. read more

Where to begin... Jefferson City, MO is a very small place with one strip and it has your typical fast food places. Even though the choices of eating are limited, I must say that Colton's steakhouse is one of the best places to eat there. The setup is similar to a Texas Roadhouse with peanuts in barrels and you can pretty much eat and toss the peanuts anywhere in the restaurant. Needless to say, the liability insurance must be through the roof, but that is another story. If you are ever in this area, I recommend this place 100%. The JT Charbroiled burger or the Country Fried steak will more than fill you up. Go with the Sweet Iced Tea as there are plenty of refills and it is one of the best. I'd have to say it rivals McAlister's deli Iced Tea and around here, that is saying a lot. They have some out of the world buttery biscuits that melt in your mouth. Throw some honey on that bad boy and you are having an A-list party in your mouth. The service is good and the restrooms are clean. Most people in those parts are nice and friendly. I've eaten here several times. The food is average as in the kind of food you would expect to get at a chain place like Outback/Ruby Tuesdays. In other words, you can have an adequate meal at somewhat reasonable prices here. Nothing special, but nothing terrible either. The service here is pretty awful though. They consistently screw up orders here, have problems splitting checks, are slow to refill drinks/bread, and are not always as friendly as they need to be. One time they even served a vegetarian co-worker a chicken dish (he didn't order), and the servers acted like they were doing him some kind of favor by bringing him the dish he ordered. To be fair, when they really screw up, the manager will offer things like coupons for free appetizers, but it's just not worth the hassle. read more

Fried catfish, something this part of Missouri is known for, could have been fried-anyfish. Tasteless. I'd definitely like to try the dining room. Had prime rib twice in the last 30 days. Both times very good. The horseradish cream sauce on the 2nd trip had to ne made when I ordered because they had run out It was great fresh way more flavor then on my first visit. Great hot rolls very good with butter and honey. Try the prime rib the next time you go I am sure you will enjoy it. read more

Copied as shared on my personal FB page....Last night (8/15/18) we had dinner at Colton's in Jefferson City for Jim & Carols 50th anniversary. We will NEVER eat there again. Keep in mind it was a Wednesday evening and they were NOT very busy. Basic rundown of our dinner (note the looks on Jim & Carols faces in the pic, that was a happy moment). We got to Colton's at 5:10pm and were seated right away. Order was taken at 5:15 (we all had fried catfish with slaw, Carol & I had loaded baked taters, Steven had fries, Jim had green beans...Steven & Carol shared an onion blossom and Jim & I shared one....nothing special or difficult about our order). Drinks (2 ice waters, 1 unsweetened tea & 1 of the NASTIEST cups of coffee on the planet) took half an hour to get to us. Food arrived at 6:30pm (took an hour & 15 minutes). When the woman (not our waitress) brought the food out, first thing she did was take a huge platter and hand it to Carol across our table and told her to take it...Carol got both hands burned & the gal ignored her saying so as Carol dropped her plate on the table. I had to pile dinner rolls on the onion blossoms to have room for the plates, they sat the 4 of us at a TINY table, and the only way to have dirties removed or refills on drinks was to ask, and wait for 15-20 minutes for a response. The catfish was cooked right, but they left the black slimy skin & red meat on it so it had a very dirty fishy taste. We were given 6 dinner rolls and enough butter for 2...I asked twice for more butter and we never got it. Jims green beans were cold. And at the end of the dinner when the check was handed to us, & waited another 15-20 minutes to come back and get the money so we could leave. So the dinner ended up costing $77.71 (plus the tip $13). We could have had better tasting food, better quality food & better service at Long John Silvers for half the cost. We got home and Jim had a head cheese & pickle loaf sandwich just to fill up & get thebdirty fish taste off his dentures. I wish I had known it would be such a bad experience, especially for their 50th anniversary, Colton's really ruined their special day. At least they were happy with the gifts they got from each other & they spent the day together with NO arguing. Steven wants to try Colton's 1 more time and try a steak...I am NOT thrilled about the idea & would rather go back to Longhorns, but I will humor him...ONCE. IMO (Jim & Carols) Colton's just straight up sucks!! Would give zero stars if it was an option. read more

I know people are hurting for help but that being said, our server forgot my salad, my hubby's water, you know just the normal stuff. I ordered their special of 20oz ribeye knowing I would have tons to take home. Not, most of the steak was fat only. Before we were half way done eating our waitress asked about to go boxes, brought it to the table and had no where to put it. Then she asked about the ticket. In from out of state, used to love this place, not anymore. We were seated and had asked for a booster seat, sat there for a while still no wait staff to ask what we wanted to drink. Another employee, maybe a manager was giving extra attention to the booth behind us, I asked if we could get a waiter or waitress and a booster seat, it was almost ten minutes after we were seated we finally got a booster seat, still waited on getting our drinks. Food was good, but the wait staff was not. I felt like we was judged on the way we looked that day. It was 3 days before Christmas and I always tip the wait staff well, when we are treated well. My family and I went to Colton's for dinner. We had the potato skin appetizer along with the hot bread. My daughter had the Southwestern Chicken, she said it was great. The wife had a cheese steak sandwich with a baked sweet potato, she said it was very good. I had the full rack of ribs with baked sweet potato, coleslaw, and green beans. Very very good food indeed. I've always been happy with the food at Colton's in various towns in my travels. On Sunday evening May 4, the food was alright. Good salad, good Hawaiian Chicken, good veggies. The service, however, was horrible. Being alone in town on business, I sat at the bar. There was no bartender. No one. For at least 9-10 minutes I sat there eating peanuts. One server, apparently not a bartender, went behind the bar and poured a couple of beers to take to a table, but ignored me. Finally another girl, apparently the bartender, appeared. She took my drink order but poured four other drinks before pouring my beer. I guess no one taught her how to be a bartender, or else she just had too much going on while waiting on tables. So what I'm saying is, they did not really have a bartender. So after she got my beer, it was another 10-15 minutes before she took my food order. My beer was gone, my water was empty. A manager stepped behind the bar to do something, but did not acknowledge me. When I was finished, surrounded by dirty dishes, I waited and waited for the girl to reappear so I could ask for my check. After she gave it to me, she went over to a table where a bunch of her friends were sitting, and talked to them for 10 minutes with her back to me. I finally walked over to her and handed her my credit card. The thing was, I wasn't angry about the whole service situation, I was amused by it. It was funny to sit there and see just how bad it could get. I wasn't in a hurry, and I was in a laid back mood. Things easily could have gotten ugly if that weren't the case. read more

Never had that bad of service at a place. We called ahead and ask to be placed on the list. When we arrived we were told they did not put people on the list unless they were there. Understanding we had a group of 11 we were trying to be nice and let the know. The hostess could not give us a wait time so we took the buzzer and sat down. After about 40 min we went up and asked for a manager. After telling the manager the story he rudely said he is trying to be very polite and trying to get us a table ready. The manager never told us sorry for the confusion his answer was always " I understand your upset". Never the less at the end of the conversation the manager asked us to leave. We have been here several times. It's 35 miles away from home but it's good. Today on July 3, 2015 they were out of prime rib by 5:30 pm. Waitress said it happened the day before around the same time. What a terrible way to run a business !!! My wife and I both were going to order it at 21.99 each.
