Nice restaurant in a cute little town. Easy on/off the highway if you are just passing through. This seems to be a popular spot with the locals. There is a bar on the back left and outdoor seating by the rest rooms at the back. The menu here is quite large with a kids and a senior menu. Breakfast served until two o'clock if I remember correctly. Burgers, entrees, sandwiches, salad, apps. Wait to be seated. Our waitress was very good; friendly and attentive. Food was good as were the prices. The burger was a pre-formed patty and quite large over all with plenty of fresh toppings on a big roll. The oil used to cook the tater tots is used for other menu items so be aware if you have cross-contamination issues. Seating is a mix of booths and tables. It's a bit dated, but clean and family friendly. I would not be surprised to learn the scrubbed, pink counter top in the ladies room is original. Plenty of parking. read more

I had been here before for karaoke, but had never tried the food until last night. The karaoke spot is nice with an awesome outdoor area. I would come back to sing, probably won't come back to eat. I ordered a cheese steak sandwich. The menu description sounded like a basic cheesesteak I've had 100 times. But this one came with au jus, which seemed really weird. The sandwich also had zero cheese...even weirder. Neither one of these things would have been deal breakers for me if they had tasted good. The meat on the sandwich was bland and so so so dry. And the amount of grisly totally inedible pieces was gross. The au jus was flavorless. My fries were under cooked. The strawberry lemonade was amazing though. Service was mixed. The main waitress who took the order and brought the food was great and so sweet. The young boy who brought the ticket was beyond awkward. The food is good. Not great, but good. In fact, I think many people would say it's very good. But, still not great. It's good American cuisine done competently. The problem I have with the restaurant is the issue of value for money. Every entree seems quite expensive for what shows up on your plate. And this is not a chic downtown hotspot in Portland or Seattle, it's a little country diner on the service road next to I-5 North. It's not like they can justify customers paying extra for the location and the sophisticated ambiance. I wish to be kind, and yes, it was a good meal. But the fact remains that the prices seem out of sync with what is coming out of the kitchen and the type of restaurant and where it's located. read more

I LOVE traditional roadside diners. I will go out of my way to eat at places like this because it is always so much better than chains like Denny's or Ihop. This one has Elvis eat here once and proudly display a Jumbo Elvis burger. I had to get it . This burger was massive! Over a pound of meat and melty cheese, and all the fixings. It's important to note they never buy premade patties, instead choosing fresh hamburgers made into patties in the restaurant. This burger was enormous, and was easily the best burger I have ever had in my life. My wife had a buffalo burger which was also wonderful. I took 1 star off for a couple reasons, but none of them are really a big deal. 1) the soda was a little watered down tasting 2) they don't take AMEX and 3)the fry options are crinkle cut and tots, I hate crinkle cut so I got tots, but I would kill for this burger to come with some home cut fries or a big ol steak fry. It was a little expensive but nothing crazy, and I would honestly pay more for food this good. OH, lastly, they got the good ranch. read more

I had been wanting to try this place for decades. Many times I'd pass Kalama on my way someplace else, but this time I was determined to slow down and check it out. I'm so glad we did! Going North, you'll need to get off I-5 at the exit after Todd, make a right at the stop, a left at the next stop, and you are in downtown Kalama. There are lots of shops, but the Columbia Inn is at the end of the line of them on the left. You cannot miss their sign. Pull in and park, and allow yourself enough time for a good meal in a relaxed atmosphere. My daughter got a Bonka burger and I got fish and chips; large helpings and fresh ingredients cooked to perfection by someone who knows what they're doing. The service was great and welcoming, the ambiance casual. I will absolutely be back next time I drive up that way. Take some time out of your frantic drive North and check out the Columbia Inn, as well as the rest of the town. Kalama is a little gem. read more

When I was little, this was the place that we always stopped at either on our way or back from Portland. Good old school diner food. My parents loved this place. Fast forward 30 years / every time we drive by (several times a year) I always tell my kids we should stop because it's sooo good. Well we finally did. It was the worst food that we had had in a long long time (we only ate a few bites). The dining was covered in flies and we were doing everything we could to keep the flies away. It's definitely been remodeled since the "good ol days" and it's cute but it was dirty. Service was horrific - took 20 minutes to place our order a day there were only two other tables occupied. Dropped into Columbia Inn Bar & Grill while in town doing a little business next door regarding the new hotel going in. The bar is a small area and 99% of the clientele is local; which is to be expected. There was karaoke happening... kind of. The KJ was mostly out on the patio--which, by the way, was lit brighter than the surface of the sun--sucking on her pacifier... I mean, vape. With her gone half the time, there was zero flow to the show and folks were getting noticeably frustrated waiting their turn at the mic. To top it off, a group of guys rolled in like they were auditioning for a WWE event, yelling over everyone and completely crushing the vibe. The bartender was sweet and clearly doing her best, but did not have control over her crowd. With a new hotel coming in next door, this place is about to get more foot traffic from out-of-towners. Here's hoping they get things a bit more dialed in--because with a little polish, it could be a great spot for locals and visitors alike. The food was shockingly good for a modest looking establishment. We both had egg dishes that had a ton of what my mother would call "goodies" including bacon and vegetables - there as a HUGE amount of food for the prices. The potato pancakes were truly delightful and the regular pancakes are supremely fluffy and as big as your head. They are precisely what pancakes are meant to be. Consider splitting the breakfast - it's that big, just make sure to tip the waitress for the super fast & mostly attentive service. Way better than an iHop or Dennys. Does that make it 5-stars? I've been coming here off and on since the late 1950's (it opened in '55) when the family went to Portland or back from there. This was once on THE north/south highway before there was an I-5. A popular place back then, Jack Benny and Elvis both ate here. (who?). The food and service has always been good diner-style. We ended up here after striking out at another restaurant that couldn't sit a family of "4". We called to verify and they said come on over. We've driven by countless times - along the I-5 corridor between Kalama & Vancouver. The atmosphere is what you would expect for the age. The service was spot on - until the end when we couldn't find our waitress to pay. We have 3 adults and a pre-teen that could definitely make a dent in dent in the menu and we did just that. Everyone - but me - did breakfast (it was around 10:00 am) and I did lunch (their homemade potato salad was YUMMY). The sizes were plentiful and priced well. Flavor was good. Doesn't look like anything special from the outside, and the inside is like a cozy grandmother's home with nick knacks here and there among the tables and booths. Great breakfast menu with almost too many good choices! Egg's Benedict, scrambles, omelettes, Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, hashbrowns. Had a great experience at the bar. Our server and bartender "Shelby" took amazing care of us. I lost count how many times she came over to our table to check on us. The second breakfast, I stuck with the NW Scr. and my wife had the two egg breakfast ($13.59) that came with two dinner size pancakes. For our dinner meal, my wife was very happy with her Turkey Cranberry sandwich with tots $17.09). They don't seem to have any gluten free items, but I ordered the Taco Salad ($17.39). I first spotted the Columbia Inn Restaurant as my Son and I were driving past Kalama on the way up to the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center near Castle Rock. It threw out a Retro "Dated and Divey" vibe, which meant that we were destined to stop in on our way back. It also didn't hurt that the Kid was "starving" by the time we came by on our return trip. We stopped by just before Lunch, as our Volcanic plans were cut short by a drizzly and overcast day. Access to and from I-5 was easy, as was finding a place to park. We immediately noticed the mural on the side of the building that mentioned that Elvis and Jack Benny had been here, and that the King of Rock and Roll had also spent the night at the adjacent motel back in 1962. 50 Years is long time to be milking ones 15 minutes of fame, but we were actually charmed by this form of small town pride. We were greeted promptly and immediately seated in a booth by the window. The front dining room clientele was fairly sparse, but very local and on a first name basis. We joined the "Family" straight away, starting with a conversation initiated by my Son with the next Table and continuing with a playful "slap" administered by the Waitress after he made a snide comment about my age as I ordered off the 55+ Menu. The Waitress was also taking a photography class, and we had the pleasure and privilege of admiring her work. My Son ordered a huge breakfast combination that even he couldn't finish, while I enjoyed a more modest omelet dish with hash browns done right. We were both very happy with our meals and within this most enjoyable atmosphere. Towards the end, I walked around and noticed the Chinook Lounge in the back, complete with flat screen TVs, a place for a band, and an outside deck. Heck, if were any later in the day, I could have hung out back here, watched the Ducks beat USC over a cold one, all while keeping the Kid within a safe range. Have lived in this area since 1995 and drove past this restaurant numerous times and never stopped. Today I just wanted a hamburger w tater tots. A hand made hamburger patty not a frozen pre-made. Came here & that's wat I got. And. AND thy have hand dipped onion rings but I didn't try them this time. The bfast menu is available tell 1400. Looked over the dinner menu & there were a lot of things I liked. Service was fast friendly & great. Nice interior. Nice clean bathrooms. Will definitely return. read more
