If you follow my reviews, it's not secret that I generally despise bars. What, then, is so different about Covlins that it warrants a 5-star review? Lots of things... * Staff is REMARKABLY friendly and personable * They are equally attentive and professional * [[HIGHLIGHT]]The patrons were awesome, seriously. I came here alone, and no fewer than three people, each in completely different parties, approached and engaged me in conversation. This seemed like a bunch of regulars who welcome newcomers as family[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The menu is much larger than expected for a bar. I opted for the pulled pork sliders, and they were FAR better than expected. The rolls were the most surprising part, they were fantastic! I don't know if they're baked on-site, but they're definitely not typical "get the job done" fare, they were superb. "Slider" also seemed to be a bit misleading because they're so generously stuffed with pork and cole slaw that they're closer to a full-sized sandwich. Prices belie the quality and portion sizes (much lower prices than I'd expect). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only minor gripe is that there are not a lot of good seats for seeing bands perform. The bar area is narrow and long, which doesn't lend itself well to seeing performances, but I was still able to do so, and the friendliness of the staff and other patrons (again, AMAZING surprise) really seemed to make up for this[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. read more

We have only done take out so far but have ordered quite a bit. The wings are really good and take out service always pleasant and friendly. The only reason did not give it 5 stars is because they charge you a credit card fee if you pay with card. Don't normally experience this at other places and very disappointed. We understand why they are doing it, however, as business owners ourselves, we don't agree this to be good practice. We prefer to give an excellent tip for good service than get surprised with a CC FEE which limits us from giving above and beyond on tipping the server or person who helps with take out, for the great service. Make sure you have cash to pay as the fee adds up! read more

We ordered the Lundy loaf "meatloaf" and we were not pleased. The meatloaf was hard as a rock. The potatoes were instant fake potatoes and the gravy comes from a package. We also ordered the Texas brisket burger, this was also disappointing. The brisket was mainly fat. The BBQ sauce was good as well as the fries. Ordered a cup of chili and that was decent. For desert we tried the tiramisu cake. This was the highlight. Drinks were good. read more

I could say that this place is like a hidden gem. Was browsing around places and got hungry. So, me and my friend was looking around town for brunch or late lunch. Turn out they were a few that are open for indoor dining! We stopped there and we sat at the bar. The menu looks simple and good. I got one of their burger to try. My husband and I drove here from Vancouver, trying to compare to Mcmen. In Kalama. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We like that we had a choice of table, there was very little traffic, it was nice and quiet enough we could hear each other[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], the food was generous in portion and well cooked. I like we had a bucket of condiments to choose from to accent our meal according to our individual tastes. The service was ok, but the young girl didn't know how to hostess or anticipate our needs. I had to go get silverware myself, ask for the condiment bucket from a neighboring table (only 3/9 tables had the bucket), and paying was awkward. But it is a small town, and we expected more of a country vibe (country music was the musak). But we felt very comforted by our visit and happy with the prices for what we got. I could even afford 2 drinks! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I think we will come here instead of Kalama, even though it's an extra 20 minute drive, it's more intimate, and we don't have to wait for a table or listen to condescension you sometimes feel at Mcmen[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Went to breakfast this morning (8/27/2022) and the food was amazing! And whoever the young gal that served us in the restaurant- you go girl!! Most kids her age are playing on their phones or chit-chatting. She was extremely attentive to us and our needs, got the order right the first time, waited on us quickly and was very pleasant! We were passing through town on a family road trip and my 7 year old son said he was hungry for steak. We decided on Colvins and it was the best! The little dining room next to the bar was so cute and welcoming, and the menu had a ton to offer. My son and I shared the BBQ combo and it came on two giant plates. The brisket, ribs and pulled pork were all top notch -- as good as the best BBQ places in Seattle and half the price. Wifey has the foil cooked halibut, which was also delicious. It pains me to write this, as when we first started eating here the food was spectacular. Over the last month or two, though, something has happened. The last two times we've ordered the smoked chicken tacos, the chicken hasn't been smoked and was primarily cabbage (I assume to cover up the fact that the chicken wasn't smoked?) We ordered the fish in foil once - the cod - and there was maybe a bite or two total of fish. Another time we ordered this, no sides were given - just the fish. Beer battered shrimp was inedible - completely drenched in grease. I really hope whatever happens gets straightened out soon - we'd much prefer to support a local business rather than drive to another town. read more

An awesome litte place we fell in love with on our way to Astoria. Drinks: My girlfriend had the Bloody Mary, which was good. I had an orange juice, which was good. Food: The food was so good and was presented very nicely. The kid had pancakes and bacon, which came with whipped cream, sprinkles and a little umbrella. My girlfriend ordered the Pulled Pork Benedict and loved it. I had the special, which was smoked brisket benedict omelet. I had been craving a burger all weekend, and this place had exactly what I needed. Service was fast and friendly. Food was perfect! They have a bacon-stuffed burger that is as good as that sounds. We stopped by on our way to the beach for a camping trip. I must say that the smoked chicken in both of our meals was to die for. The service was perfect. Can't say enough good about this place. It was so fabulous that we stopped again on our way back home a week later. Highly recommend Colvins! PS, we had first entered the Conestoga bar/grill next door, but we couldn't get anyone to wait on us, or even greet or acknowledge that we were there. Got into town early, not much open, came across this place and it was good, nice waitress, good food, had a omelette and hash browns, the surprise was I got a biscuit in stead of toast, it must have been home made, probably the best biscuit I have ever had. Well worth the visit. read more

If you want well prepared comfort food and friendly service, this is the place to go. Their coffee-rubbed steak is awesome and you'd better get there early for their smoked prime rib on Fridays. I even like their meatloaf, steamed fish, and fried chicken, which is crisp and not greasy, but moist inside. Their salads are crisp and fresh, and they have tasty sandwiches, bbq sliders and burgers. My husband says their Mac n cheese is amazing and loves the fried green beans. The only thing we wish is that they served breakfast later and had more vegetarian options for my husband. read more

This place could be sooooo much better with so little effort. I have been here three times now and each time my expectations have been met, but only because they were not that high to begin with. Colvin's is in two parts each with it's own entrance. The bar is on the right and the dining room is to the left. I like the bar. It's a step up from the other options in town. The beer selection is interesting even if the prices are higher than their competition. It is a very comfortable place to stop and have a few. Every time I have visited the bartender has been easy to talk to and I have felt well taken care of. The dining room is a basic spartan affair with no thought to atmosphere. The food is not much different. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Just be prepared. My last meal was the Homemade Meatloaf. Highly recommended by the staff. It started out with a salad.....I'm sorry....I don't know why they went to the trouble. This was one of those salads that places serve only because they feel they have to.There was no social redeeming value to my little bowl of lettuce. Unfortunately is was a harbinger of what was to follow. The meatloaf came to me as a huge double portion stacked high with a healthy plop of mashed potatoes with the aforementioned covered with a generous flood of brown gravy and believe it or not the star of the show, a freshly made roll. The meatloaf was indeed meaty. But that is as far as i would go. It wasn't bad by any means....just not in the least bit interesting. The potatoes were again basic with no character. And then there was the gravy. My server had assured me that everything on the menu was hand made in house. I have no reason to disbelieve him however, if the gravy was hand made then it was made by the same person who makes the gravy that comes in a can. It was terrible. What I would come back for is...the roll. I have no idea what they did but it was a light, fresh bread tasting of yeast. I held the roll up to my nose and I was transported back into the bakery from which it was born. It was delightful. It pulled apart with perfect resistance, the inside was flaky and warm. It was almost a crime to taint it with butter. Colvin's has a varied menu with lots of promise they just need someone competent in the kitchen to fulfill that promise. I will come back to Colvin's for a beverage and a roll. For food, I'll go elsewhere. read more

We sent that back to receive a burger that was extremely dry and overcooked. Beyond that it also took an hour to get a chef salad and our nachos which by then we were already full.
