This was an oasis for us. Long story that I won't bore you with it , but we came in cold, wet, and hungry and left happy. We were traveling south on 101 seeing the sites when we stopped in, the real cool thing was they had a fire going in the fireplace that we were able to sit close to and warm up while we ate. The place seemed real casual to me with great service, also the prices were fair for what I recieved and if I am ever driving by again I would stop in without hesitation . There menu price for the two sandwiches ordered were $3 more each when the check came. When asked why, the waitress said the increased their prices today but not the menu and didn't say anything the entire time while ordering. Never offered to adjust the price back down to what the menu said. $21 for a dry French dip and $19 for a basic burger is outrageous. You took advantage of to senior women. Shame on you. read more

The food,( two burgers, fries, and calamari), were over cooked and soggy. The buns were wet and whatever sauce they put on the garlic fries made them an awful wet mess. Once in a while we'll go to a restaurant where it seems like none of the staff ever goes to a restaurant. Their service gives the impression that they don't know what type of service customers want. Such was the case at the Roadhouse, where our appetizers were lukewarm (bordering on cold) by the time they were brought to our table. They appear to have been prepared properly, but then were allowed to sit for quite some time before anyone thought to serve them. That's one of the worst "sins" a restaurant can commit. And good restaurants have mechanisms in place to ensure that doesn't happen. Good restaurants have food runners, have management paying attention, have kitchen staff who notifies servers an order is waiting, have means of ensuring that your food is brought to you when it's ready, not ten minutes later. Therefore, I don't think the Roadhouse is a good restaurant. Our sandwich was good, and while it was brought to our table in a timely fashion, the fries that accompanied it weren't done cooking when they were pulled from the fryer and put on the plate. If we go to the Roadhouse anytime in the future to hear live music, we'll probably eat somewhere else first, and just enjoy a drink there. read more

Super friendly staff and great food! Good for families or those just wanting to chill in the bar. They have live music frequently on Saturday nights which is a bonus. We were here a year or so ago and were super impressed with the food. Looked forward to stopping again today 10/3/2020 and saw they were under new management. We were a bit concerned because well you know changed. We had nothing to worry about the chowder was really good! (We got the last 2 bowls). Prawn basket was huge. And the burger was phenomenal. Stopped here for dinner with our boys. I found the inside to be nice and warm with plenty of big screens to watch the NCAA Tournament. The waitress came over right away and got our drink order. She also came back and got our food order shortly after. Our drinks and food came out quickly. All 3 boys got chicken tenders and fries, which were pretty good. The chicken was moist and tender. My wife didn't get anything and I got the surf and turf salad, which was billed as being steak and shrimp. The shrimp was okay, and there were about 6 on the skewer. The "steak" on the other hand appeared to be chopped up roast beef lunch meat. The "steak" was not very good at all and disappointing. The last thing was after we got our food it got pretty busy in there and there were only two waitresses working for the entire place. They were also the bartenders. They clearly started to get overwhelmed but were doing there best. We ended up waiting for 20 min after we were all done for the check to come and then another 15 after that for it to be picked up so we could pay and leave. Definitely needed more staff for a Friday night. Overall I liked the restaurant and would go back to give it another shot. Probably would order a burger next time. The waitress acted as if I was a nuisance asking if I should take a seat or wait to be seated. I asked what kind of wine she had. She didn't know so she had to go check. A smug "Hold on". When she returned, I finished the order. She brought my salad and main course at the same time, never checked back while I was eating. But was Johnny on the spot with a check. What bothered me was she had a hand-held credit card machine tableside that would not allow me to complete the transaction without a minimum 20% tip. Say what?!? Before she completed the transaction, I asked if I could buy a t-shirt. She disgustedly said, " I don't know--you'll have to go do that over there" and casually pointed in another direction. Husband had the fried chicken and half rack of ribs. $19.99 each but with a great half price discount on the second entree! If you come in between 3-6pm you get a good price on the appetizers. A perfect American diner experience, with a great menu, cool decor, and welcoming vibe. We happened to be driving through Chinook around lunch time and debated whether to stop or keep going... Glad we stopped! We walked in to a cool diner atmosphere, with as many locals as us tourists. The server was very friendly and welcoming, and very quick with service. The food itself was perfect - I had a chicken Caesar Salad, my wife had the Surf and Turf Salad plus the award-winning chowder. Both salads had crispy lettuce and beautifully grilled meats: my chicken and my wife's shrimp and steak were tender and cooked just right. But the clam chowder was probably the best thing - you can see why it's award-winning. Clams in the shell, a broth that was not too thick, not too thin, and superbly seasoned. We were visiting Astoria, Oregon on a beautiful Saturday afternoon when we decided to travel to Cape disappointment (it did not live up to it's namesake, but that's for another review!) On the way, while driving through Chinook, we saw this little gem with a sign out front that said something along the lines of "voted best clam chowder... Something something something" Hey let's go try it! There were no other cars in the lot, so we got a great spot. It looks like on busy nights, parking may be an issue, but certainly not today. We walked in and looked to the right and saw an arcade and gift shop. The arcade had mostly pinball machines, which was cool. The gift shop has your usual overpriced tourist trinkets (pocket knives with names on them, pamphlets with birthday facts, scented candles, stuffed animals). We went to the left and were instructed to sit wherever. They had a roll up door that was open, but we choose to sit away from the door to avoid the breeze. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the food. After reviewing the menu, we elected to try the clam chowder. Now, coming to a place like this for clam chowder is a little like going to Red Lobster for their steak. But the sign said best clam chowder!! The chowder arrived and it was hot. The serving size was adequate. Just shy of filling me up. Fortunately, my wife eats like a mouse and couldn't finish hers, so she gave it to me. The taste was better than ok, but not spectacular. I would return to eat if I were hungry and in the area, but I won't make a special trip just for the chowder. We showed up an hour before closing and were told, the kitchen closes in 15 min. We rushed to place our order, and did not have time to read the menu. When my husband was semi-choking, I tried to call the waitress over for water. People who showed up after us were waited on, and she took and processed payment for the only other table before taking our request for water. She got water for the new arrivals before getting ours. What a great place! We came to Long Beach for our first anniversary in the off season and we're disappointed in the restaurants nearby. Our host recommended this place, and we are here twice in two days! The prime rib French dip and prime rib quesadilla were amazing! Lots of food and great flavor for a great price. Second trip, I got blackened fish tacos and a side of mac n cheese, and both were great. My husband got pulled pork and a side of cornbread. Both tasted delicious but the pulled pork sandwich was quite short on meat. We were there close to closing so perhaps it was the end of the pulled pork for the day? Our server agreed it wasn't right and gave us a discount. In the end, we left full and happy, and impressed with the service and restaurant once again. Oh, and the decor is so fun! I live on the peninsula and have been driving by this place forever. The build out has been off and on. They finally got it open this summer and we were excited to try it out. The space was great and servers were friendly. Everything went downhill from there. The menu was huge, which usually means a whole bunch of dishes poorly executed, whidh was the case here. We ordered drinks and food and then waited. 20 minutes later we got our drinks. An hour later we got some of our food. Not all we ordered, but most of what we ordered. The gumbo (house specialty) was almost certainly not made in house- it resembled an MRE with an island of rice and shrimp in the middle. The ribs were OK. The cornbread was mediocre. This place needs to trim down its HUGE menu and just make food that it can make well and quit making (warming up) food just so it can have a big menu. The only reason to eat here is that you are in Chinook and don't want to drive anywhere else, otherwise, keep on driving to Long Beach and Ilwaco where there are some restaurants knocking out some great food. read more
