A group of us stopped into Portway Tavern for lunch while visiting Oregon. Plenty of free parking can be found in the gravel parking lot in back. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Oregon lottery can be found in Portway Tavern so my crowd enjoyed the slot games onsite while drinking and visiting one another. Portway Tavern has outdoor seating with sun umbrellas to enjoy on nice days. Table service is not offered. Orders are placed, picked-up and paid for at the counter. Happy Hour is offered Mon-Fri from 3pm-6pm. A full bar ensures that everyone is happy. Late night menu is available Sun-Mon from 8pm-close, Tues-Thurs from 10pm-close and Fri-Sat from 11pm-close. Food menu is standard bar food. While looking over the menu my wife had a Bud Light for $4 and I had a 10 Barrel IPA for $5.25. For lunch, my wife and I shared the Grilled Blackened Chicken Sandwich for $14.75: 6oz chicken breast, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion and mayo. Instead of fries, we opted for a Garden Salad for $6: mixed greens, tomatoes, mushrooms, red onion and croutons. Staff was welcoming. Prices are fair. Food is tasty. Thank you Portway Tavern for fueling our bellies.

You can tell this is a popular spot by both locals and tourists alike. The bartendress did an amazing job handling large parties and keeping the folks at the bar happy. The food smelled and looked really good--planning to try it next time, especially those cheese curds. We appreciated the fun atmosphere!

Great location, awesome fish and chips, formidable burgers, nice beer selection, strong tasty cocktails and a feisty friendly staff. Pair this with a fun vibe and appropriately funky nautical waterfront decor and this is an ideal pub experience. I loved it.

Stopped in for a drink and played some slots a while back. What a great spot and it's so close to the bridge. Delicious Bloody Mary too!

A little hidden gem in Astoria Oregon! The food is phenomenal and the service has always been impeccable every time I stop in. Certainly a cozy feeling with cool decor. Always a must stop when I'm in town.

    New England Style Clam Chowder

You will not be disappointed choosing Portway Tavern it is a solid choice. We stopped by on a Sunday around noon on a chowder quest. The tavern is tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. We chose to sit at the bar. The bartender Krissy was really sweet and helpful. She suggested I try the drink of the day which was a Shamrock Mimosa. It was delicious and the garnish was St Patty's Day festive. For food she said they are known for their clam chowder, Burgers and Fish and Chips. We chose clam chowder and a Jalapeño Burger. The New England style Clam Chowder is creamy and thick like you're sipping a gravy with tender chunks of potatoes that almost feel like it melts in your month. I loved the contrasting flavor of the saltiness and smokiness of the bacon and the fading bitterness of fresh "oceany" clams. Our cup of deliciousness came with a piece of garlic toast upon request. Perfect for dipping. My ultimate favorite chowder is a west coast style from Hog Island Oyster Company in San Francisco . Served with fresh clams (shell and all) over a fresh creamy potato' base. Portway's clam chowder is delicious as promised. I now have a new favorite "New England style". The Jalapeño burger was delicious as well. Fresh, perfectly seasoned and cooked 80/20 burger patty dressed with pickled jalapeños, tillamook cheddar, red onion, tomato, leaf lettuce and a secret sauce that reminded me of chipotle flavored cream cheese. I was happy the pub bun held this juicy burger together. Holy smokes it was tasty. We will be back that chowder and burger for sure.

While I understand being the only person there to serve and what not, a prompt warning that the only flavor of pie was most definitely over a week old, soggy as could be, and full of undercooked, under mixed raw flour would have been human decency. To say this is the last time I will stop here is an understatement. Not to mention they charged me $16.75 for two slices on this paper plate and wrap. Thank you for ruining my 3 year olds excitement with what he described as "the saddest pie ever." Hopefully the food is better, but I won't be giving my money to these folks again. Best of luck

For a moment, I thought I had somehow took a wrong turn and had driven into rural Ireland. I was curious. I knew I had to check it out on our return drive home later in the day. Unfortunately, the hours posted to Yelp and Google were incorrect; either that, or the proprietors had closed early that Sunday night. Either way, they were gracious enough to let us poke about a bit before leaving, and I have to say, we will likely be making a special trip to revisit this place in the near future. The interior is warm, dimly lit, and filled with the heartwarming aroma of wood smoke from the black iron furnace, and Irish stew simmering in the kitchen. Lots of love and personal touches have been included in the interior decor: vintage artwork, framed and loose pictures, posters and newspaper clippings, antiques, tchotchkies, your standard neon bar signs, and hard wood furniture. It looks and feels lived in: a living history museum of the region, which apparently has more history than one would ascertain from driving through this tiny hamlet. Looking forward to knocking back a few drinks and enjoying a hearty meal here someday soon.

The set up here is quite interesting and comes very close to a one stop shop. It has part convenience store and beer bar all wrapped into one and the tap list of beer is pretty extensive. Lots of local or PNW area beers on tap but they also have some exclusive beers of their own that I almost missed. I was ready to go but Steve pointed this out to me so we got a beer here after all. I liked the tucked away seating and at the time we were there there wasn't anyone else having a beer so the peace and quiet was appreciated. The beer that we had was a lager and it was okay. It was apparently brewed out of Bend, Oregon but I am not sure if another brewery does this for them or not. The flavor highlights with this lager is a breadiness and somewhat of a clean aftertaste. It was fair but it kind of gave me the impression of a big corporate beer as I didn't see much personality to it in the flavor profile. But other than that I did enjoy my first visit to a Growler Guys and as the name implies you can bring in a Growler Bottle and select from the wide list of beers to enjoy.
