    Adorable wallabies!
    Ariel R.

Such a fun and affordable day trip from Indy! We took a mini weekend getaway from Indianapolis and spent the day at Columbian Park Zoo--what a blast! This little zoo packs in so much charm. Our favorite part? Definitely the petting zoo with the sweetest goats ever. The open garden area where you can see wallabies up close was such a unique touch, and the monkeys kept us entertained with their playful antics. The zoo is clean, well laid out, and incredibly family-friendly. It's a perfect low-cost outing that still feels special. We're already planning to come back when the penguins make their return!

I don't understand how this place is only $2 a person but you totally get your money's worth. There's only about 10 exhibits but they're thoughtfully laid out and you get up close and personal with the animals. For a few dollars more, you can get food to feed the goats, a train ride around the park, or paddle boats. Feeding the goats was so much fun. I'm not sure what I expected, but you're fully in the pen with about 20 goats and they are going nuts all over you because they want that food. My handful was gone in about half a second. My favorite part was the butterfly exhibit. I walked in and butterflies were just flying all around me. It's decorated like a little garden party. It was almost magical. It's designed with little kids in mind, but it was also fine for our family of three adults. We also pushed my mom in a wheelchair and she could access everything except for the butterfly exhibit.

Yes this is a small zoo but sometimes they are the best. The highlights for me, someone who goes to a lot of zoos and loves them, they have a wallaby walk thru where you can get close to them, a farm animal walk in area with goats which are adorable and a great viewing area for swimming penguins. The penguin area had the cleanest water I've ever seen in a penguin area which made for awesome photos. Also the prairie dogs are so cute! Gift store has magnets! Didn't see any food or drinks here.

I absolutely loved this park and zoo. It is small so don't expect to spend all day in the zoo. It really tripped me out when the wallaby brushed right past me. Talk about a close encounter! The butterfly house also provided a really close up experience. All of the animals looked to be in good shape. The rest of park area is loaded with options. The boat rental, the train ride, multiple playground areas pavilions, the water park , a baseball stadium and places to walk. Wow I was really impressed. The prices are fantastic as well. If you have children then I would highly recommend this place. Even as an adult I loved it. Highly recommended

The zoo is definitely a fun time. The wallabies, prairie dogs and penguins are super fun. Petting goats is a must! The little ones are so loving.

Super cute zoo! For only a couple dollars I was impressed. What other zoos can you have close encounters with animals like a wallaby? And pet baby goats! No extra charges, no catches. Great place to take the kids, young and old, for a quick stop. Enjoy the park, take your time at the zoo, and have fun!

This park and zoo is really beautiful. Our family loved strolling through the zoo, seeing a good variety of animals, talking with the employees, and enjoying the peaceful train ride around the parks pond afterwards. The landscaping is done very well, the animals were well kept and fun to watch. We also enjoyed visiting the goat petting area. The baby goats are adorable. Will definitely be back.

Oh my gosh!!! We can't believe how great this little zoo was! We stopped for a break on a drive from Chicago to Indianapolis. It's in Lafayette IN a few miles from Purdue University. They had an awesome butterfly exhibit & we met Lisa which was so sweet & a wealth of knowledge too! Everyone that worked here including volunteers was so amazing!! We absolutely loved playing & loving on the adorable Norwegian Dwarf goats. We were definitely blown away with this place & it's people!

My review is based upon the entirety of Columbian Park, not just the zoo. With free admission and parking all around the perimeter, there is a lot to enjoy here. Water fountains, a lake with a Veteran's Memorial area, and the Columbian Express train ride for young and old give a variety of options to the visitors. Extensive playgrounds with different ages in mind allow for those a bit older and more adventurous to be entertained as well as the toddlers. The zoo itself has a limited number of animals, but does a good job of trying to make the animals visible. I went on a warm April day and some of the animals were still not on display for various reasons, but some of the exhibits have added windows for unobstructed viewing. (The window is highly reflective, so photos aren't as successful since my camera lens kept focusing on the surface instead of the subject.) There is a farm with a number of domestic animals and a petting zoo area. There is a butterfly garden and a butterfly house that opens during the summer (after Memorial Day) that I hear is really cool. Sure, a more diverse collection would be nice, but this is free, so it was fine by me. Review #284

This is a nice small zoo just the right amount of animals. Great place to take the kids or grandkids. It's a free zoo. They have a petting zoo with goats and chickens but you can't pet the chickens they run. They have Wallabies in a open area and they get real close. My favorite part is there are babies in the pouches. So set up a family reunion or just a picnic and go to this park. Plenty of tables and shelters. And even a train you can ride, tickets can be purchased at the gift shop. Adults are $2.00 kids $1.50.

If you're feeling a little blue, take a stroll through Columbia Park and visit this small, but adorable zoo. Did I mention that it's free? You are welcome to make a donation at the gate. Although the space is small, the real stars are the petting zoo and the butterfly garden. Who doesn't love to pet a little goat and then go have butterflies all around you? It's also a great place to bring out of town guests to spend an hour or so. Swing by, pet a fur friend and smile .

There are so many things to enjoy about Columbian Park. It has a train ride, a water park, really nice shelter houses, clean restrooms and super fun playground equipment and green space for running and playing. The feature of this park is the zoo, which is FREE! While it's a small zoo, there are several things to explore including monkeys, wallabys, ostriches, goats, chickens, prairie dogs, otters, mini horse, llama and a butterfly garden. This place is truly a hidden treasure for Hoosier families and my kids love going here a few times a year. Pack a picnic and make a day of it. Thank you for making this zoo free for everyone!

This is a pretty nice zoo! It's not a very big zoo with all the types of animals that the bigger zoos have, but I believe they are still in the works of expanding it. Oh, and did I mention...IT'S FREE! How awesome is that?! Two of my favorite areas in the zoo are where they keep Bald Eagles and where they keep the Wallabies. The reason that I like the Bald Eagles area is because all that separates you and them is a wooden fence, not an enclosed cage like most zoos. The reason that I like the Wallabies area is because they have this enclosed pathway that you walk along with just a rope fence and you get so close to them that it feels like you could almost reach out to pet them, but I'm sure that's not allowed. Overall, this zoo has a nice setup with a decent assortment of animals. It's also a great location because it's in the park area that also includes a playground, a water park, and a small train that goes around the park.

Up close views of the animals and very informative staff. Very reasonable prices to enter and view the animals.

This is an amazing park tucked away in a small suburb of Lafayette. It sits right in front of the…read morezoo and spans 40 acres. It is relatively well maintained and clean. There is tons of parking available, spread out between a couple of lots and some street parking. The park has lots of shelters with picnic tables under them and a grill just outside of them. I would say there are at least 18 of them that are available to be rented. The park also has a couple of shuffle boards that you can play and a loose picnic tables scattered on the grounds. The park is home to an amazing playground that has just about everything you would want in a playground. It's only negative is that it is on a bed of wood chips. The area is pretty large and divided into different areas for recommended age groups. There is a wide mix of equipment here including traditional and toddler swings, a saucer swing, sit-n-spins, slides, expression swings, and a teen area with a jungle gym that has a suspended pebble bridge and monkey rings. There is a huge jungle gym that sits a top a hill in the area that has a bunch of slides and some monkey bars. The equipment seems to be in pretty good repair and looks great, even though it is a bit older. You will find a share a book kiosk and a glider swing in the area as well. The park features a train depot that sits right across from the zoo entrance and it has an operational train that goes around the park. It was not running while I was there because it was out of season. I really liked the park's man-made lagoon that winds through it. It very picturesque and calming. It adds a nice touch to the park. They have a little pier on the lake where they do paddle boat rentals, in season. You will see little amphitheater at the park. It seems relatively new and is very nice. it has seating and a scenic little plaza area with picnic tables that over look the park's lagoon. There is also a trail, the Columbian Trail, that weaves in and around Columbian Park. It is well paved and has a very scenic view. What sets this park apart though is its veterans area. They have a large area, the Memorial Plaza, located along the water dedicated to memorials to veterans. They have the United Spanish War Memorial, Gold Star Family Memorial, Medal of Honor Memorial, Purple Heart Memorial, and the Vietnam Memorial. There is also a bunch of flag waving from flags poles over there and a Howitzer gun on display. You will also see the Tippecanoe County Veterans Memorial, which is the oldest memorial in the park, dating back to 1949. I did not see a bathroom facility dedicated to the park, but I was able to use the one attached to the Zoo's entrance. It was very nice and well maintained. Also located on the water is the Rush Pavilion which serves as a clubhouse that can be rented for special events. It can hold up to 50 people and includes access to a full service kitchen. The wrap around porch can hold an additional 100 people. This is a destination park that you can easily spend a half of day without even going to the zoo or amphitheater. It has everything that I look for in a park and more. It is very picturesque and I really enjoyed my time there. I also like, that they included salutes to veterans in their planning. I highly recommend checking this place out. It checks off all the boxes and will not disappoint.

There is so much to see and do at Conner Prairie. We arrived early for the 10:00 am opening. We started outside exploring the Lenape Camp, the William Conner House and Prairietown. We watched goats being milked and learned about beading. Not only were the kids captivated, but I was as well. The staff is wonderfully friendly, knowledgeable, engaging and helpful. We took a break for lunch before heading to the Treetop Outpost. The Treehouse is an area for kids to play and explore. The kids played for about 30 minutes while I rested on a bench. In the afternoon, when it was getting hot outside, we returned to enjoy the museum. The Food exhibit is interesting. We found a couple of hands-on exhibits which were fun and educational. The upstairs food immersion experience was a bit confusing. Upstairs, we enjoyed learning about the creation of the White River. The kids loved the Wellspring center where they could kick back and play in the foam pit. They spent an hour exploring the little nooks and seeing all the artifacts embedded in the walls. They played in the Spark Lab for a bit and appreciated a chance to sit and play. I haven't been to Conner Prairie in many years and I was impressed with all the new things to see and learn about. The kids were disappointed that the balloon was closed for maintenance. A balloon ride would have been the icing on the cake. That said, we still had a five star day and a great bonding experience. We spent a total of 5 hours and didn't see everything, but we were pooped. Pro tip: wear bug spray, sunglasses, sunscreen and comfy walking shoes. Bring bottled water. We brought a lunch, but you can buy sandwiches and drinks at reasonable prices at any of the three on-site cafes. Restrooms are far between, so plan your breaks when nearby. The trails are gravel and some of the prairie homes are not fully accessible. Designated stroller parking is available. I'm looking forward to going back in the fall to explore the trails and see the trees changing color.

I rode quite a bit many years ago. I had a service expectation in my mind for how things would go and unfortunately the team at this ranch did not deliver. On arrival, parking was not clearly marked (broken signs and no arrows to direct you). Once out of the car, there was no one to greet us or give next steps. We were told by visitors already waiting to step inside the barn to sign a waiver. Once inside, the staff member who wondered out of the dark handed the waiver to me and explained it. Yet she never said hello or introduced herself. It all felt very transactional or as if we weren't welcomed. I can only assume how many trail rides are provided in a day or week but the experience is still special to visitors. I would like to think they still remember this. My children were assigned horses (Cherokee and Widow) and given basic riding instructions from other staff members (they stated afterward the women providing them were not very warm). I was given a horse named Stitch that I did not enjoy or recommend to anyone who has never ridden before. He was headstrong and unfriendly. I can say: The 60 minute ride through the wooded trails was beautiful and very quiet. Our group totaled six so I guess I assumed there would be conversation from the trail lead but there was none. No water was provided or information about the land we were on. I was grateful for the instructor stopping before bigger hills to describe what was ahead and how to best handle it, it helped my kiddos, but I can't say as I would come to this place again.
