I saw Columbus Food Adventures on Yelps best tour in every state list and was reminded that I never reviewed them! We did a private tour as a spouse event for a work conference. We did the Short North option, and this was my first ever food tour. I honestly didn't know what to expect, i've always skipped these options because it seemed like a waste of food and time I could be spending doing other activities.... I was proven very, very wrong! We began at the food hall and then made our way to a couple of spots in Short North. Every single thing that we tried was delicious and unique. I was afraid I would burn out on the food very quickly and be stuffed early on, however the different options, background provided on the recipes, and the walk to different places, plus thoughtfully sized bites kept you intrigued the whole time! I felt like this was a huge bang for our buck and so enjoyable. Our group raved about it. read more

Had a fantastic experience this morning/ early afternoon on the Short North food tour with our guide, Ash. We started the day at Hot Chicken Takeover in the North Market with the General Manager telling us the history of not only the restaurant but the building. Ash added some interesting insight as well when she gave her introduction to the tour. There was only 5 of us total and we did not know the other people in the tour but we had so much fun that we all bonded and parted as friends after. I had been on another of these tours and the group was just too big so I loved the smaller group this time. Ash also encouraged conversations and kept us engaged throughout the day. Every stop that we went to was introduced to us and gave history that I did not know even being a Columbus native. I love how curated the tour was and how smooth it ran. My favorite by far was the Woodhouse Vegan which I've walked past but never been in. You could not tell at all that the food in there was all vegan and I'm just amazed by the quality and dedication from the owners. Ash also made the tour so memorable and personal for all of us. This review is for the "Trust Fall" dinner for two. I was really excited to have this culinary experience. I am always happy to support small, ethnic businesses and try something new for my tastebuds. The execution was great and the concept is cool. You sign up for delivery (or pick up) of a "surprise" dinner for two, and you cannot choose anything or indicate any food preferences. What you get is what you get. Unfortunately for me, the food on this particular evening was from a restaurant I had been to previously, and not had a good experience. The portions were surprisingly small and 60% of the meal seemed to just be white rice. The entrees were barely enough food to feed two really hungry adults at dinner. Naan bread was dry and flavorless. No risk, no reward. It fell flat for me, but I would definitely give it another try in the future and hopefully have a better experience. read more

This has been one of my absolute favorite things I've found in Columbus. There's a variety of tours you can do that bring you to restaurants and potentially parts of town, you're unfamiliar with. Each tour is different and comes with a bit of history of the area, restaurants, and the owners of said restaurants. Along with that, you also get to try food/drink from each stop. All the tours have always left me super full, with some having me take a to go box to pack up some leftovers. I LOVE the Trust Fall program that CFA has been offering! During this weird, weird pandemic filled times CFA's Trust Fall is a hint of light in seeming food darkness. Having only been into one restaurant for dine in service since mid-March the Trust Fall offerings help quench my thirst to 'not eat at home'. Thank you Columbus Food Adventures for this wonderful adaptation/deviation from your in person food tours! I can't wait to keep eating my way though CBus, safely from my home, until it's safer to dine in. I am so glad I found this wonderful 'surprise' meal to my doorstep! (I know my wife's become a HUGE fan too, as I was able to convince her to do two meals last week!) Last week we had a meal from a new Egyptian street food place here in CBus (Koshary King). I would highly recommend checking this vegan/vegetarian food truck out! The Koshary, a mix of chickpeas, lentils, pasta, fried onions, and tomato sauce topped with a lemon vinegar sauce was unlike anything I've experienced. It left me wanting more! The semolina cake, basboosa was something that I would love to make myself. Deliciously sweet and wonferfully textured. As someone who is not the biggest fan of eggplant, I was blown away by the baba ganouj and mesaka! We were also fortunate enough to get one of the Dewali meals for this past Saturday. The full course meal was from Tandoori Grill and it was an absolute delight! It featured papadum, kachori, aloo gobi, mattar paneer, lamb quorma, and three desserts (malai burfi, motichoor ladoo, and kaju katli)! The lamb quorma was an absolute surprise treat as I normally am not a fan of most lamb as I find it too gamey and not cooked in a way that balances that gaminess with other flavors. The yogurt tomato stew perfectly complemented the lamb in this quorma. Tandoor Grill even included candles to be lit for Diwali, a thoughtful touch. Previously we've had Trust Fall meals from: Kabob Shack in Hilliard. Which was a beautiful Afghan Korma and Ash, a traditional yogurt, noodle, and chickpea soup. Estillo Brazil (main was beautiful creamy polenta with sausage and kale), Yau's Chinese Bistro (jeje chicken hot pot), Tulip Cafe (Turkish: a wonderful egg noodle soup paired with a fluffy & cheesey Turkish bagel). I appreciate the videos of what the meal is and where it's from, that are received to the booking email about an hour before the chosen delivery window. It means that I can watch it or be 100% surprised when the meal arrives! If you are looking for a way to break the mundane of take out during this pandemic, do yourself a favor and book a trust fall dinner! It's very cost effective when you consider what you used to spend for sit down service or if you add in the delivery fees from what ever delivery platform you're using to get food delivered anyway! read more

From our tour guide, Logan and his knowledge of German Village, AMAZING personality and quick thinking to help protect and get us out of the rain (yay for garbage bag ponchos and the comfy Ford Transit that took us to our next stops during the worst of the rain storm) to the delicious food and hospitality of the restaurants it couldn't be more perfect! I've been a long-time fan of Columbus Food Adventures, and I recommend them to anybody coming to town. But because of a darn gluten allergy, I haven't personally been able to participate as much as I'd like. During these weird COVID times, CFA started doing mystery meals -- Trust Fall dinners -- where they introduce you to a unique culture through food. And lucky for me, they had a gluten-free dinner! The experience was awesome, and I got to try a restaurant I wouldn't have known about otherwise. We just had our first Trust Fall.  This one was a bit different since it was not a secret who the restaurant was.  We knew it was Ajumama! I appreciated the heads-up email a few hours before delivery and the personal video from the owner on what was what.  It got us primed.  I decided to watch the preview, but maybe next time I won't, and just be surprised. Beautiful fall day for a GREAT walking tour of the Brewery District in downtown Columbus!! Highly recommend this tour, or other similar ones offered by this company, if you're a fan of beer, history, and/or just enjoy learning more about some hidden (and not so hidden) gems Columbus has to offer!! Our group of nine was a mix of locals and out of town visitors, and we all enjoyed our approx. 3.5 hour tour of the area that at one time was HOPPING (some pun intended!!) with breweries. The tour was a birthday gift for my beer-loving hubby, but I think I got a lot out of it too!! Each and every stop on our tour great, and we'd love check them out again on return visits. My favorites were the first location, where we met up, Rockmill Tavern and The Daily Growler, though all five locations were great, and well prepared for our group. Great variety of tastings at each location, and the 3/5 locations that served yummy snacks along with the brews were MUCH appreciated. Our guide Joe was full of information, you can tell he really enjoys what he does. There's definitely something for everyone on these great tours, and we hope to definitely be back for a return visit SOON!! read more

When I was in Columbus for work last year, I stayed the weekend and very much enjoyed the German Village Food Tour. I swore that if I ever came back , I would bring my mom and do the tour again. Last month, I had another work conference in Columbus, and my mom and I extended our trip several days just so we could catch the Saturday German Village Food Tour. I loved it just as much the 2nd time! Logan is funny, interesting, delightful, and gives a great overview of the history of Columbus. I do food tours everywhere I travel, and this is one of the best because of Logan's extensive knowledge and the amazing food! Our guide was Lindsay and she did a great job of showing us the very diverse ethnic food offerings of Columbus (American, Asian, Nepalese, Somali, Thai, etc.) on the tour. We began with the North Market, went on to the Short North and ended with ice cream at Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. Along the way, Lindsay provided us with interesting history nuggets on Columbus, highlighted the art work murals and sculptures around High Street, and showed us some interactive AI artwork on the side of The Graduate hotel. My husband and I received a gift certificate and chose to spend the evening on their Alt Eats tour. Andy was a great tour guide as we traveled to 5 different restaurants around Cleveland Ave.. His knowledge of the various cuisines and history is unsurpassed and he provided lots of other restaurant suggestions in the city to try as well. I got tickets to the Franklinton tour for my husband and I as an anniversary gift this past year and it was worth every penny. Our guide, Jim, was fabulous and so excited about the neighborhood. We enjoyed some great food and brew sampling and learned so much about the area. Jim was so enthusiastic that it never felt like a "history lesson" or lecture, just like someone sharing one of his favorite things with you. We were also able to tour some non-food attractions in the area which added to the interest (artist and maker sites primarily) and talk to people who are making things happen in the neighborhood. It was a great way to spend a sunny fall afternoon. I hope to do more tours in the future and maybe try out their Trust Falls too, which sound very interesting. read more

Having lived in Columbus since 2000, I thought like I had a good idea of what the Brewery scene is like in our city and BOY WAS I WRONG! This tour should be on every beer lover's To Do list. We learned about the deep history of craft brewing nationally and locally, got to learn about beer production, and how to judge/taste beer all while visiting a variety of breweries. The tour guide and brewers were extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and had answers for every single question we had. This is a fun adventure to take solo (you could meet cool people on the tour!) as a couple (a fun way to experience the beer scene) or with a group (a great way to explore new breweries). We did the Triangle Tour and I'm certain we will be doing another one soon! read more

Foooooooood tourrrr (to the tune of "Snooooop dooggg" in 'Drop It Like It's Hot'). Today was our first ever food tour with Columbus Food Adventures. We were originally scheduled for one in Franklinton, but it had to be canceled due to COVID issues. They kindly offered to switch us to another tour this weekend, or to reschedule for Franklinton in a couple weeks. We decided to continue with a tour this weekend, ending up on the Grandview Avenue walking tour with our fabulous tour guide, Alexis. They were even able to accommodate for my being a vegetarian, even though it was a last-minute switch. In order, we stopped at: Si Señor (Peruvian sandwiches), Green Olive Company (tasting olive oils and balsamics), Yats (Cajun and creole inspired), Third & Hollywood (American cuisine affiliated with North Star and Brassica), The Avenue Steak Tavern (a Cameron Mitchell endeavor), Jeni's ice cream (a Columbus staple), and Grandview Theater (beer tasting, popcorn, and goods from Krema Nut Co.). We had a great time and our tour guide Alexis brought so much energy and knowledge. It was fun to discuss local eats with her. We ended up on quite a small tour, for a total of 4 participants, and we all felt like friends by the end. My favorite stop was Yats, where we were given two beignets, one plain and one Nutella-filled. After that, we were able to ask for samples of any dishes on their menu. I tried their Vegan Chili and Spinach and Mushroom etouffe. Both were super comforting and flavorful. My partners favorite stop was Third & Hollywood, where we had generous sampling's of their chips and pimiento dip, their skillet biscuits (would go back for these alone), and smoked salmon with bread and aioli. We got to speak at length with the chef, and learned a lot about the restaurant, which is very unique and different from North Star and Brassica, which share owners. All in all, it was a great way to try restaurants we normally wouldn't, and to learn a little more about the history and food scene of the Columbus area. I really appreciated that there was an experiential activity in addition to all the eating, in the form of Green Olive Company. We definitely have our eyes on other tours in the future. read more

We received this tour as a gift last Christmas and finally got around to doing it. If we knew how great it was going to be, we'd have done it much sooner. We went on the Brunch tour this weekend and it was fantastic! The tour started promptly at 10:30am, with Nick fully in charge. All 15 of us loaded into a small bus and away we went. The first stop was to The Table. This restaurant's slogan is "Fork Responsibly". It's located in a great looking older building, which had been extensively remodeled. We were led to the basement and seated at a large communal table. It took a minute to notice, but dish ware on the table was not matched. Looking more closely showed that none of the chairs, tables and decorations matched either. Such a wonderful concept to re-use all of that great older stuff! We were served coffee right away and soon the first course arrived, which was Dark Rye & Lox. The bread was superb, the salmon was light, slightly smoky and full of flavor. Next, the staff brought us a scrambled egg dish called Akoori. The eggs were perfectly cooked with Indian spices and it was served on toasted bread. This was my personal favorite for the whole tour. The last dish was French Toast. This was my wife's favorite. It had the correct balance of flavors, not too sweet, not too tart. We will be going back to this restaurant for a full meal soon! The second stop was at Hoof Hearted. This restaurant started as a small brewery and later evolved into a Brewpub located off of 4th Street. They have some of the craziest names for the beer they brew, like: "Musk Of The Minotaur" and "Don't Microwave It, Don't Boil IT". They started us out with small glasses of coffee and the "Musk Of The Minotaur" beer. The next course was BRUNCH BALLZ, which are brown sugar pecan donut holes served with house made maple syrup and cream cheese. Very tasty! The last course was the Nacho Breakfast, which is Barbocoa beef, scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, with pico, cilantro, guacamole and sour cream. The chips are house made and they were nice and crispy. Walking around the restaurant shows they even have an attached pool. What a great place! The third stop was at Cosecha. It's located off of 4Th street in a great older brick building, including a great patio space and lots of seating. The menu is Mexican food and they started us off with a drink, the Tepache Refrescos. It was light and delicious. We were then served the Masa Waffle con Pollo Frito, which is their version of Fried Chicken and waffles. The chicken was a little spicy, but flavored well and the waffles were nicely cooked. We loved the look and feel of this place and will also soon return to give the menu a try. Our last stop was to Valters at the Maennerchor, which is located in German Village. This is an old style German restaurant housed in a 100 year old building. The inside walls are full of photos and more, with much of it focused on the Choirs (the Columbus Männerchor) the place is famous for. Here we were served a Mimosa, along with a huge skillet dish that had eggs, potatoes, onions, peppers, cheese, sausage and bread. We were told it was a combination of 2 brunch options, the Breakfast Hangover & the Breakfast Skillet. The food was good, the service excellent and the place was amazing. Throughout the tour, our driver/guide (Nick) was a virtual fountain of information. He shared the histories of all 4 restaurants, along with interesting facts and stories, all of which kept us very entertained. He answered every question we threw at him with ease and it was evident he was very confortable speaking and handling a small crowd of people. Plus, my wife commented that he looked a little like Ryan Reynolds... The rest of the people on the tour with us were all extremely nice, plus the weather was great, so the excursion was a big hit. What a wonderful surprise!!!! The food adventure was a gift, and I musts say this is something I would have never bought for myself. BUT, after this adventure, I would definitely buy another one. We did the Old Worthington tour and I must say it was an experience. There were 12 participance that were guided by Nikki that gave a wealth of information about how and who settled Worthington way back in 1803. The tour was a 6 stop tour plus the staring point being the center of the local Farmer's Market. At the market we were able to taste various types of honey, cheese and pickles, and OMG the pickles were to die for. House Wine and no need to say any more. Uhm, uhm, good. Everest Cuisine, (a Napali restaurant) had no idea what to expect, but was very surprised at the selection and taste of the food we were served. I would not even begin to guess the names and if I did I could not spell them, except the pot sticker and it was called something else. La Chatelaine we were served a cup of french fries with chili and cheese (see photo) and a very delicious sweet french pastry. Sassafras Bakery a 5" chocolate sea salt cookie. Almost everything in the bakery comes from locally produced items purchased from the farmers market right outside their door. Igloo Letterpress custom printing for just about anything done the "old fashion way" Whitney House resturant This is an upscale restaurant with some very unique menu items and I will leave it at that. We did a guided tour yesterday with a bus and Ralph for my friend's birthday. We had a really good time and this was a really fun way to enjoy the day! We got to go behind the scenes at Rockmill Tavern, Zaftig, and Parsons North. We got to sample beers at each places and we got to talk to some really cool people. Learned a lot about the beers but also a lot about the history of the city. Maybe a little pricier than I would like, but not sure of we had a special route or something. This review is for the Coffee Tour. Overall, I came away from this afternoon feeling highly caffeinated and a lot more educated on my favorite beverage. The day started at Luck Bros. where we received two cups of delicious coffee and a donut. The presenter was fun - much less structured and more likely to go on tangents than the other two coffee pros. Next, we headed to Stauf's where we went through a cupping class. We also received a bag of coffee to take home, which was a very nice plus. (And it was the best coffee I have ever made at home!) We ended the day at Brioso's to learn about espresso, trying two different espressos and a cappuccino. This was the most formal presentation of the day. There were also little scones to eat. I will say the espresso really packed a punch at the end, so beware of that. It was definitely a fun afternoon. I would recommend some snacks on the bus, though, as the food provided isn't really enough to ward off hunger. I'm excited to try out some more Columbus Food Adventures tours! read more
