I went with my wife to do a mead tasing and tour. Orin was our guide and he was amazing. He was very chill and explained exactly how he makes the mead, which is relatively simple. I admire that he buys most ingredients locally. After the tour the server also let us sample whatever we wanted to a very relaxed type of environment. I felt welcomed and not pressured at all. Andrew gave the tour vs. the usual head mead maker. He kept rubbing his hair and it was obvious how nervous he was, but he had the knowledge and passion for making mead. Hopefully with more tours, he gets used to presenting the passion that he clearly has for it. Tour took longer than it should and should resolve over time. Been meaning to come here for a while! We were eating dinner for a friend's bday at 1126 and decided to walk over. It's tucked away on 5th. Parallel parking is something you can find on these side streets. When we walked in, it wasn't busy. I'm sure the staff sees some of the same folks regularly as some of them talked to us about mead. The staff was friendly and nice! They were helpful to let us try samples and telling us about mead. Mead looks a lot like wine. But it can be pretty sweet or dry. I'm more of a dry kinda gal. I've been aware of Brother's Drake for a while, but hadn't stopped in until this weekend with a friend from out of town that likes mead. We had a bit of a time finding it, the building isn't marked and we missed the street level sandwich board sign, but now we know! Note that you'll likely have to start park in the Short North. We booked a tasting, and holy cow! The tasting is advertised as 5 samples, but Julian kept bringing them out, and after 9 samples, we staggered out in search of tacos. The tasting flight comes with a little info sheet to tell you about each variety- traditional, sweet, herbal, etc, and the team is super knowledgeable. They keep a conversation going with their guests about your likes, interests, and preferences. You learn a little about the process and Julian was really passionate and seemed excited to share his plans for new varieties. But if you want to learn that, you'll have to go visit! You can pick up a bottle of the current or more popular varieties in the way out. We got the Strong-arm- Apple Pie aged in cask. So good! read more

Loooooove this place. First time going back in sense covid hit but I had been several times prior. Such a unique space and tucked away off high street. Truly a hidden gem. I love the vibes and loved all the events and live music they had prior to covid. The meads are all very interesting but my favorite is definitely the Apple pie. Brothers Drake is apparently one of the first meadery... not just in Columbus, but in the entire country. They're also one of the top producers of mead by volume in the nation, so that's pretty cool to have something like that in town. I'd tried their mead elsewhere before, but a meadery tour Groupon brought me to Brothers Drake Meadery for the first time last weekend. There's really a lot to love about this place. Their meads are excellent with a fairly wide variety of flavor profiles, from dry to sweet. I personally loved their honey oak mead, with its wood-aged scotch whisky-like aroma. Their best seller apparently is their apple pie mead, which was actively fermenting in their tank during the tour. The owner actually poured us some of the in-progress apple pie mead to try, which was awesome. It's not often you get to sample an unfinished product-- definitely a neat behind-the-scenes look at their operation. After the tour, we hung out in the bar area for a bit and tried several more of their meads. The bar area, while small, is comfortable. Their bar tenders were very friendly, and apparently also bilingual? One of the girls was taking orders in both English and Spanish. I'm bilingual too (although not in Spanish), so I appreciate that. They also host a bunch of live music, so if you're into small bands, this would be a great hangout spot too for that. All in all, a great experience. Will definitely be back! read more

I like wine, and I like honey. That combination equals a mead. My husband and I decided to take their tour to learn more about meads and their process for making them. Definitely a cute little hipster place with limited parking. There's a bar with meads and decent priced cocktails. There's also a seating area, and a performing area where they do live music some evenings. We checked in for our tour and were welcomed with our first wild Ohio mead sample. I really enjoyed the information we received. I was happy to know it's all organic, and our Ohio honey is represented in every mead. Let me stop. If I say more you won't take the tour for yourself. We took advantage of great Groupon deal for a mead tasting with bonus souvenir glasses. Glad we got the tasting because we all learned that we are not mead fans. Don't get me wrong, the samples were tasty, but I don't think any of us would CHOOSE to hang out and drink mead over a bourbon bar or good craft beer and cider. The atmosphere was very casual and relaxed, and the service was FANtastic. Drew was super helpful, and he did an awesome job explaining the tasters. He even scored a second round of tasters to see if there were other mead palettes that we might enjoy. Music was perfect for the mood, and it wasn't so loud you couldn't have a easy conversation and enjoy the tasting. Our favorite (no surprise here) was the Battle Axe, a cranberry sour mead. I think it is their most popular. This gets a WORTH A TRY for sure. It was fun and a great way to start our night on the town. Who knows, you may enjoy the mead - could be your new go-to. I would describe it as something between beer and wine, leaning toward wine. TIP: If the first 5 tasters don't satisfy your curiosity, ASK for a few more. Really great "tour" for $20 today. We tried probably 10 different meads of various styles- cyser means made with apple cider, methlegin means with herbs, and melomel means with fruit- and enjoyed not even a walk but a standing presentation by one of the owners. She was hilarious and highly informative. We did get a little bored after she talked for about an hour and seemed to start to ramble so we headed back to the main bar area to try our last two samples before leaving.
