We usually eat lunch in Astoria, but since we have driven past the Logger restaurant so many times, we decided to give it a try. What a quaint restaurant with its rustic decor and knotty pine walls. There were lots of pictures on the walls pertaining to the logging industry and a few antiques mixed in also. The menu had a wide variety of choices too. My husband ordered the Reuben sandwich with onion rings and I ordered a Patty melt with coleslaw. Our waitress, Marissa, was attentive and friendly. We expected the sandwiches to be huge and these were enormous! We could have split one easily. I immediately set half of mine aside to take home. My husband ate all of his, and shared some onion rings with me. I loved the creamy coleslaw, and it was also a nice sized portion. The Patty melt was served on the same thick swirled rye bread as the Reuben. There were lots of freshly cooked caramelized onions on my sandwich and the beef patty was thick and cooked perfectly. We had no room for dessert, but those homemade pies were very tempting. They also serve milkshakes in about a dozen different flavors. No one would ever leave this restaurant hungry! Plenty of food for man-sized appetites! Not only that, but we noticed that there was parking space out back set aside for loggers to park their big rigs when they dine there. There was plenty of room to turn around, and we made note of that in case we stop during when we are towing our camping trailer. A welcome sight as we traveled NW on Hwy 30, heading toward Astoria and the Oregon Coast. We needed a break from driving in the rain, and just a general break from driving. lol It was quiet and empty at 3pm on a Thursday, but we were cheerfully welcomed in and took a window booth to watch the rain. Hubs immediately spotted the "Milkshakes" sign and requested that as a "starter." Though certainly considered a tad bit older than a child, he also honed in on the Grilled Cheese sandwich with fries and asked if that could be an "adult" offering. 'Sure! It's one of my favorites!' was the smiling reply. Despite the cold rain, I was in the mood for some cool greens, so I ordered the Northwest Chicken salad w/ grilled chicken, pecans, "craisins", red cabbage and feta. It also came with a side of garlic toast, the same style used for his cheddar cheese sandwich. Well, THAT was all very delicious! Their baked goods looked tempting, but the rain had eased and we still had a couple hours ahead on the road. So I snapped a few pics of the adorable decor then bid farewell. Wait staff spent all the time yacking left my burger and bun on grill till the bun turned solid and crumbled to crumbs, was without question the worst service and food I have experienced in a lifetime of travel. We were visiting the area for work, and we wanted to try this option on our first day. We show up at 11:55am and the signs are off and the doors are locked. We went across the road to another establishment, and we saw that just after 12pm they had the signs on and we watched people enter their restaurant. We assumed that they maybe opened at 12pm, which we thought was wild, but we then looked online and it said they should have been open since 7am in the morning. We went back to try this restaurant another day, and it was packed. The interior is fairly rustic. There is a lot of lumberjack and forest type decor. The front has pies, milkshakes, and it feels almost like a diner. Our server was very sweet, and helpful. It did take us well over 30-40min to get our order. The food was nothing special. The burgers were gigantic, but it was mostly the bun that was oversized. The tater tots were incredibly crispy. They must have been deep fried. The Ultimate burger was very impressive. Some tips: Their pies look delicious. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to try one of their many pies. Had a great family lunch here on our way home from Astoria. Very reasonably priced kids menu. I had the western burger and it was delicious! Cute interior with the restaurant and bathrooms very clean. All of our lunch plates came with a pickle and orange slice which was a nice touch. Our waitress was excellent and checked on us regularly and refilled our drinks. Will definitely stop back here on my next drive out to the coast. read more

Ordered the Fried chicken sandwich the chicken was almost burned and desert dry the Logger burger was dry the patty was small dry and flavorless the onion rings where as close to being burnt as one could get without burning them. I stopped on the way back from Kelso for a small breakfast. There were two waitresses at the end of the bar where I sat. They visited sometime before bringing me a menu. i waited even longer for her to get my order while she stood there visiting with the other worker. She finally took my order for a half order of biscuits and gravy. I waited even longer for the order and when it arrived, it was on a 8 inch plate with a half of a biscuit and runny gravy. The order was not good and the service terrible in a nut shell. When you can see the workers visiting while you are waiting to be served, there is no excuse of being busy. read more

A must stop over the years traveling to the coast for pool tournaments. Bartenders always have been welcoming & friendly and food is great.. my fav is the French dip!! I was very excited to learn that they DO have gluten free bread and burgers, so I was able to have a 'normal' meal and not just a salad. The waitress did go double check they had some in stock before taking the groups orders. Service was fast and efficient. We had ordered within a couple minutes of arriving and food was out a few minutes later (there were only two other groups in the diner while we were there, it was not a busy time of the day). You can check with google ahead of time to find out if they are busy in advance, which was a fun little feature I hadn't tried before. We have driven by this place for so many years on our way to Astoria and we stopped. We got a booth seat quickly and our order was taken and food delivered after a bit and that's when our server disappeared (we walked up to the register to get our bill and pay). My side salad was good and my bacon cheeseburger looked "good" but in the end was probably not the best decision I made from their menu. My husband enjoyed his chicken wrap with side of onion rings. stopped in on our way to Oregon Coast. it was Tuesday so they had a a taco special which my Hubble ordered and loved. He ordered two and they were priced right and had all the sides so you could add what you wanted. I ordered the Prime Rib Dip with garlic fries. it was the best meal I have had in a while. Lots of meat, grilled onions and cheese on a bun. Just perfect. also include dip and horseradish sauce. But oh my the garlic fries are worth the drive. They were just perfect. We stumbled upon here on a recent drive from Astoria to Portland and stopped for breakfast. I thought the service was quick and friendly, the food good and the pricing correct for the amount of food you receive. I had the veggie omelet with home fries- which had chunks of fresh veggies and he had the bacon and eggs with hash browns. The bacon was crisp and not half cooked like you usually get. The reason I took 1 star away was the home fries weren't cooked all the way- only one side was crispy and the their 3 sides were mushy. read more

Worst service known to man! Stood at the counter for 10 minutes to get a water refilled. 3 people cut in front of me to order pie. You couldnt pay me to eat there again! Tater tots and malted choc shakes are the way to go. Sometimes service is abrupt. Any time a server drops off my check with the meal I tend to not tip very well. I get they cater mostly to "loggers" as the eponymous restaurant would have it, but just so, so unnecessary to put in general practice for other folks. Given this and the proclivity for staff to wear yoga pants (yuck), I really do like this place. The Denver Omelette and the aforementioned are solid choices. Dangerously close to getting a 2 star rating after our second visit. Went back for "Date Night", buy one get one half off meal deal after a positive first visit for lunch last week. Really went to try their oysters and clams, as the fried mushrooms from our first visit hinted heavily that this place knows how to do fried foods well. Sadly, this wasn't the case. My companion's clams were over-done and not too flavourful. Clam chowder was really good and will be a reason to return. My oysters, that I opted to have pan fried, were not well coated in breading at all. It was a very flour based and flavourless coating that was thin and missing in most spots. No hint of butter in the taste at all, so I am not too sure what they were fried in really. For an oyster dinner, it is pretty common to get 6 oysters on a plate with the side dish. This offering only had five and they weren't really all that huge. Pretty bland all the way around. Our small salad that took names and kicked arse on the last visit, was the same huge size & suitable for 2, but was not as fresh. It was obvious it had been made earlier in the day, wrapped in plastic and chilled. Veggies were rubbery and not crisp at all. House-made Bleu Cheese dressing was good though. The real topic of discussion was the coleslaw that was offered as a side dish in lieu of fries or tots. I love coleslaw. I love it dripping in sweet creamy dressing with crisp cabbage, a hint of onion, and carrot. This coleslaw was not the "traditional kind". It was very unique and an acquired taste. I would offer it as a small addition to a meal for flavour in a small cup, but a small bowl of it was too much. Mostly made up of diced onion with red and green pepper and a clear and very sweet dressing that I really have no idea what it is. If you like red bell pepper and onion, this will be a religious experience for you. If you like southern style slaw like I do, than you will be wishing you had ordered the fries or tots. For a "cheap date night", the dining area was not overly crowded at all. The bar was filled with quite a few folks who were feeling no pain at all. Awww, to be 21 again and bulletproof like that (wink). In the dining room, it was a pretty average crowd of locals (families, two parties of 3-4). Our server (younger lass with a page boy haircut, glasses and tatts on her arm) was not very attentive and spent more time standing at the counter doing her receipts. She seemed in a rush to avoid her tables, as this behaviour was repeated on her other stations. Dessert, coffee, nor tea was offered. She tossed the check while in motion walking away. For a restaurant that seems to showcase its desserts, one would think they would offer it. If this was our first visit, there would not be a second one. We will give them another chance, but are pretty disappointed that this apathetic attitude on the staff's part can ruin what should be a great little local eatery. I realize that the bars are what makes the most profit and that's sadly what keeps most places in the black in Oregon, but come on, give a damn about your restaurant too. read more

I would really like to review the food, but can't. I came in and looked at a menu. I took the menu out to my husband to see if there was food that our little one would be interested in and to see if we wanted to order in, or take away. We opted for take away. I went back in and sat at the counter...for 10 minutes. I have been to the ice room bar in Stockholm, Sweden and I found that place to be warmer than here!!! There was a lovely blonde gal who would look at me, then look at the two "waitresses" and then back at me. I got the impression that she wanted them to help me, but for whatever reason, I was not to be helped. My suspicions were verified when one of the "waitresses" placed the silverware next to the man down the bar from me, spoke with him softly, then looked at me, turned her back and walked away and then went to another patron. I waited another few minutes hoping what had just happened was my imagination, but no, I sat and was still ignored. That "waitress" found it more important to clean her till and throw away garbage. I have no idea what I did to offend or what happened, but if you are looking for a warm and friendly place to dine, the go the the Red Heron Sandwich shop across from this place and save your time. Red Heron was awesome. The lovely lady in there was smiles and conversation and she make a gorgeous sandwich and some fantastic coffee. So, for the cold shoulder and what appeared to be your bog standard food, come here and waste your money. For a nice place that will talk to you and smile, go across the street. read more

I don't see how this place has so many views. The service was very good and the waitress was friendly and came by and filled my soda at least 5 times. But the biggest disappointment was the item I praised the most on my first trip, the coconut cream pie. Nothing I would ever stop to have again. As I looked at the pie case on the way out I realized the pies are no longer made by the person in 2016 or they are cutting cost.
