The spring rolls was good and I like the fact that they provided a different sauce, something other then your typical nuoc mam sauce. The bun bo hue was ok, I wish it was spicier. Maybe that was my bad, I didn't request for spicier. I'll go back and give it another try. My friend ordered the large pho... man, it looked like they gave him 2 lbs of noodles. I saw on yelp that this place was known for their Com Tam and that they have good customer service so I wanted to check this place out. I got the special combo which is the broken rice with shredded pork, fried tofu skin stuff with shrimp paste, bbq pork and egg pie with some pickles and veggies. Honestly this place serve one of the best Vietnamese rice plates I ever had. Their meats are tasty veggies are fresh and that fried tofu skin with shrimp stuffing... that was the best. A wonderful alternative to its neighbor Pho Saigon! I came here unexpectedly and when walking in I really wasn't expecting much because it was quite small in size and very quiet. To my surprise the service was amazing and the food was actually great! The broth is very rich and flavorful for the beef pho so I was very satisfied. The portions were good in size so no complaints there. Pricing I felt was very reasonable coming from the bay. At $9 (rounding up) a bowl I have no complaints! The funny thing is we all ordered the broken rice dishes and they look almost the same in the pictures! But it is different dishes! The shipping center is very big. Com Tam Dat Thanh is located on the south edge of the shipping center close to the Fruitridge Road entrance. No problem with finding parking. The owner is a very nice gentleman. He gives us some subjection and answers all the questions we have. He also brings us a pictures menu when we are not able to make our decision! It is much easier with the pictures! The broken rice dish I ordered is very delicious! All the meats are yummy and I like the rice too! Broken rice I think is the quality control rejected rice in the old days that people can get it for less money. But it tasted better than the regular rice! Lol! One time we came for a to-go order mid-Covid since we were in the area. The uncle there, guessing the owner, left us in charge saying, "okay watch the store, I go make your order." I was craving some good, homemade, Vietnamese comfort food on this wet, rainy, Sunday afternoon, where it was anything other than Pho. Weird, I know! I chose Com Tam Dat Thanh restaurant, since I haven't had Com Tam (Broken Rice) in forever. I ordered the #3: Com Tam, Bi Cha, Suon Nuong, Tom Nuong, Tau Hu Ky, which is "Broken Rice with Shredded Pork Skin, Egg Cake, BBQ Porkchop, BBQ Shrimp and Fried Shrimp Cake". I believe all rice plates come with veggies and a side of hot soup broth, which totally hit the spot, by the way, since it was so cold outside. I also ordered a couple more dishes to try, which is a norm because I like taking the rest home for dinner: #C: Nem Nuong Cuon and #40: Banh Hoi, Thit Nuong, Tau Hu Ky with a side of Banh Trang (Rice Paper). The restaurant is very clean, including their bathroom, which I find very rare when it comes to Asian restaurants in general. LOL! Just make sure they have toilet paper before you drop them pants, cuz bathrooms I've been in, are sometimes empty with no toilet paper, paper towels, toilet seat cover, etc. and it's uncomfortable not being able to wipe your tush before heading back to your seat! They also offer local Vietnamese magazines, Bao Mo and Lang, a hit with the local elderly Vietnamese. Whenever I crave a rice plate, specifically a broken rice plate, Com Tam Dat Thanh is the first spot that comes to mind. I got their #3: broken rice with shredded pork skin, egg cake, BBQ pork chop, BBQ shrimp, and fried shrimp cake. Each plate comes with a small bowl of soup, pickled carrots and daikons, leeks, cucumber, and lettuce. All this for $13.95! Worth it to me! There's also a bottle of fish sauce at every table so you can get as much as you need. My boyfriend had the #4, which is the same as #3, except with BBQ chicken instead of BBQ pork chop. It was his first time here, and he said it was the best rice plate he's had! Both meats were flavored the same, so I think it comes down to what meat you prefer. Service is quick, portion size is great (I even had leftovers which is enough for a 2nd mini meal for me), food is very flavorful, and price is reasonable. My choice, #5, came with a mound of broken rice, BBQ beef, BBQ shrimp, fried shrimp cake, shredded pork skin, egg cake, and pickled veggies, plus cups of broth and sweetened fish sauce on the side (with a bottle to refill on the table). Tangy and refreshing (but you must love salt to enjoy). My dining companion went with pho since he was craving soup, and was happy with his choice as well. Super embarrassed that it's taken me this long to visit. Extremely pleased that it turned out to be everything promised. Best com tam in the Sacramento region (and imo rivals certain mainstays in San Jose.) Come hungry, their portions are huge. Their broken rice is fluffy and their proteins are marinated and barbecued lovingly. Surprisingly, although they are not known for their nem nuong, their nem nuong spring rolls turned out to be very very good and beats out QNNH. (Especially since QNNH has for a while started using iceberg lettuce in place of herbs and green onion stalks.) We ordered pho just for the heck of it, and it was unsurprisingly pretty mediocre. Our theory is that they only added pho to the menu to cater to people who aren't as familiar with different varieties of Vietnamese food. We also noticed signs outside the storefront that were trying to entice new customers in with the promise of pho, which we understood from a marketing standpoint. With everything said, you can't go wrong with the broken rice breakfast plates or bbq plates. When you first walk in, it's an unassuming establishment that's typical for the neighborhood. He customized my order without hesitation so I knew he must have not been just any employee. I asked if he was the owner or manager? He said his wife is the owner. Hahaha, well proof there that he has been married a long time. Excellent service provided by Hong. He found a way to customize my preferences and priced accordingly for the items I ordered. Fabulous service as I customized my two dishes. Broken rice combo plate with pork chop, substitute shrimp for eggs- Great dish, the shrimp cake with fried tofu skin was excellent. All items tasted fresh. Custom pho - Brisket, tripe and tendon, no noodles, extra small bowl. Most pho tastes alike due to same ingredients, so it really comes down to the broth. It had good full flavor and herb ingredients were fresh. Prices are 30-40% higher than other Vietnamese restaurants but the portion of food and taste didn't disappoint, so it was worth it.
