A couple of years ago I was looking for a new place to get my haircut after my previous barber left the area. My now wife got a recommendation from a friend of hers who said "go see Vito, you'll love him.....he's the best". Usually recomendations like that scare me a bit especially when its not from a "buddy", but she could'nt have been more right! First, the haircut. Without getting into details, which I'd be poor at explaining, it was great. Couldn't have been happier with the cut that day and every time I've been back since. Second, the place itself. Good location, not too much effort to park and very cool without trying to be overly so atmosphere. Fantastic selection of magazines and papers to read if you have to wait, a couple of tv's that are just big enough to watch without being distracted and good music. Vito, himself. He is something else and I mean that in the best way possible. Very cool, very funny and just has a way about him that makes you feel comfortable without trying. I could go on, but just know that unless you are some kind of arrogant jerk, you will love him and the haircut he gives you. I have not tried any of the other barbers/stylists, but they are always busy and I'm sure Vito wouldn't hire any "hacks". He runs a good, tight ship. $30 for a men's hair cut seems pricey to me for a "barber shop" They have 4 chairs. I saw 4 barbers. 2 we're done with more customers waiting. They went out back for a long smoke break. I still waited patiently. About 10 min I think it was the owner who told me that someone will be with me in a few minutes instead of taking me himself. To win me over the "first chair" should have taken the next customer, me. So I sat down in the second chair and the barber did a pretty good job. He asked a few questions several times which I appreciated. I don't think I'll be back. read more

I came here based on the reviews I'd read. The positives? It looks nice, and the people seem to be nice enough. The negatives? It's expensive for what is a pretty standard mens cut. They don't accept credit cards. They offer buzz cuts or hair cuts with scissors. I don't find the cuts here to be anything more special than any other standard "non-stylist" hair salon. I suppose the only way these places can differentiate themselves really is decor and personality, which are nice enough here. I haven't had my hair cut from Vito, usually other people. I overheard Vito becoming surprised that a person whose hair he had just cut had not left a tip. Wanna tip? Here's a tip....It's 2013, start accepting credit cards. read more

Owner is incredibly rude and self-important. Went there with my son, signed in, and was told the wait would be 45 minutes. I asked the young woman who took our names if my son and I could get coffee and come back. She told me we could. When we returned, the owner told us that we weren't allowed to leave after signing in. When I explained that the young woman had told us it was ok, rather than apologizing and getting that the customer is always right, said, "She shouldn't have, that's not how we do things at Comb." My boys now go to Balonze on Valley Rd, great cuts, no attitude! read more

Went here for every cut for almost two years. Right after I found out about this place, they raised the price of a haircut from $25 to $30. I feel that $30 for a haircut is pretty steep, especially since I always tipping my barber in addition to the price of the cut. Regardless, I kept going back b/c there was a barber there that I felt always gave me a consistently good cut. However, the last time I was there, I found out that my barber had quit. Since I had been driving from pretty far away to come here, and especially since I already thought the haircuts that I had been getting there were too expensive, I decided that it was time to find a new place to get my haircut. read more

Another girl in the shop has cut my hair and she also did a great job. It's the best hair cut in Montcalm. Prices are reasonable. Comb definitely got a regular customer today. The girl that cut my hair (not sure of her name, redhead with glasses) did exactly what I asked and it came out perfect! I've been to numerous barbers and salons through the years and I've always seem to get the same carbon copy short fade cut. Its great to know that she actually listened to me. The straight razor shave on the back of the neck was great too. The decor is cool too. I dig the old school barber chairs. read more

Nice place to get a hair cut. Clean, well taken care of shop. I had Celeste as my cutter and she did a very nice job. Even got the eye brows, ears and the neck, with a straight razor. I've been getting my haircut here by Dana ever since i moved to town 2 years ago. They;re cash only...kind of a drag but the extra trip to the ATM is forgotten once i get my haircut. I love that I don't have to specify what I want after my 1st time here and the times I've requested a unique haircut, it has been done perfectly. I also usually get a beard trim these days and Dana always does a great job there as well. Peak times are on fri night and sat morning so plan accordingly. read more

So when my friend told me about this amazing shop, I was of course hesitant because I am so careful with who goes near my hair. The moment I stepped in to the shop, I was welcomed warmly by the incredible staff. Sat in Lou's chair, and he is a master at what he does. Today was my first trip to Comb and I will definitely be back! As a first impression, the space is great - a very cool combination of old-school barber shop with contemporary decor and atmosphere. I was immediately welcomed by their friendly staff, including Vito himself, when I walked in . I settled into the vintage (but very comfortable!) barber's chair and Christine did a great job deciphering my limited ideas and overgrown mop of hair to come up with two suggestions she thought would work well. I took her preferred idea and am happy to report she deliver a great cut. I look forward to my next visit and bringing my young son along! read more

I love this place. I used to go to places like GreatClips and other cheap places for a haircut. But then before a formal event, I decided to drop the extra few bucks and go here. I'm glad I did, because the extra money is totally worth it, AND you get a nice hot foam shave along with it. I always go to Chris, who is really cool and a great barber. Sometimes I'll come in and just say "Do whatever you think looks good," and she'll hook me up with something nice. Try it once, bring cash, and go on a weekday so you're not waiting in line forever. read more

Quick quality cuts, although a little pricey for what I got (sides shaved, took some off of the top, cost $30). Kind and personable staff, which made up for it. I lived in Montclair when Comb first opened about 10+ years ago, went there for a quick cut during their first week and have been going once a month ever since. Vito is a real pro, as are his staff, especially Celeste and Chris, whom I now ask for on a regular basis. Great atmosphere, music, ESPN with the sound turned down on a couple of flat-screens, stylish old-time barbershop chairs - a real men's barbershop with style. A little background: I have been going to the same guy for years and I mean years(15+ since i was a kid.) I decided to grow my hair out and go with an actual style instead of getting the same old military 1" all around. My barber couldn't grasp what I wanted and quite frankly messed up my hair pretty bad. I live pretty close to the barbershop, happened to be walking by when I said screw it let me give this a shot. What you came to see: Walked in, told them it was my first time there, no problem I'll wait as long as I have to. Finally a chair opened up and I was introduced to Lou and after the "we have the same name" chat, told him what I originally wanted and he gave me a few pointers about how we could "fix" what my reg. barber did, I said do what you have to do. I have been coming back to this place once a month for almost a year, I constantly get told that my haircut is perfect thanks to Comb. I was warned that it wouldn't look exactly like what I was picturing until he cut it a few more times and really got a hang of my head of hair(it grows crazy I'll admit) but man was he spot on. This is now where I go for a haircut and where I recommend friends bar none, place knows how to give you an awesome cut with no b.s attached. Quick things to know: Only cash accepted, when you walk in walk to the back sign your name and who you want to cut your hair, take a seat. After the expense of getting my previously long hair cut for years, the $30 price is great, especially for the quality of the cut as well as how personable and communicative the staff is. I get my hair cut with Michael and he does an amazing job. The first time I came I cut off most of my hair to a very short cut (it was shoulder length before) and it made me feel so much more confident and myself. this is the only place in the area that i will go to for haircuts. has been my spot for about a year and a half now. was just there today and Danielle cut my hair. yes it is more expensive than some generic new "joisey" barber or whatever, but the quality (especially with Danielle and Vito) is much better, they have a sense of style and really take their time with each haircut. often crowded but worth the wait. i don't mind that it is cash only; kind of adds to old school appeal read more
