I have been to Comedy Heights twice now and both times I had so much fun! This is definitely a hidden gem and I'm so glad that you found it. For starters, you pay $5/person to get in and that is actually a credit at LeStats next door so you're basically paying nothing. But seriously?!? $5 to laugh and laugh for an hour and a half?!? Yes please! The comics range from students to up and comers to a headliner. Al Gavi is the host and he's really energetic and positive. Most of the humor is above the belt, so don't expect to come here and find raunchy stuff. It's a really pleasant surprise. One thing I found is that, in the two nights I attended, every comic either has ADHD or thinks they might have it. They all joked about it. Hahaha When your night is finished, there are plenty of dessert spots nearby. It's a great way to finish the night because the show doesn't go too late. We are hooked on this place! read more

Didn't get food but they have a good selection of food . Service I got was for drinks and they didn't have my favorite on . Hendricks. Ambience was comedy variety. I didn't care for preventer's comments. She was incredibly rude to this crowd. Calling them old because they didn't like her views. Many walked out. I won't go back unless they change her. I confess: I was reluctant to go to a Comedy show, free and on a Saturday night. I thought only amateurs will be there, and also was already prejudging that, being non native English speaker, I would 'not get' many of the jokes or twists. Nothing more far from reality! I was very impressed by the welcoming (there were many attendees coming from a meetup group and i just mentioned the lady at the door that i did not belong to that meetup group but I saw the event on Yelp and was my first time). This lady was Maria, the Australian conductor of the show, very cool and warm. I got immediate good vibes and even if my companion was like 'I don't really like this place' I convinced him to stay and I saw him cracking up many times, especially with comedian Al, he was hilarious. Since I did not have big expectations and was waiting for the worst, my excitement increased with every new comedian introduced, as they were all very good. My favorites, this Al, the a man with strong voice that imitated animals very well and talked about the topic of aging; the older lady was too much fun and the last comedian was so naturally humorous that the 2 hours were not enough for me. I will definitively go back. This has been my first attempt to attend any comedy show (in English) and won't be the last for sure. Great people, good vibes, place is just next to Twiggs, nothing fancy, but very intimate and actually I was not there for the comfort/beauty but to have some fun on a budget! I probably shouldn't be posted this review, because it seems like everybody has now discovered this great comedy show every Sat night. There has been standing room only for the last few times I have been there... so get there early. As far as I am concerned, it is the best comedy show in San Diego, with none of the minimums drinks or other bull. Actually they encourage you to bring your own food and even alcoholic drink, yes I said that. Comedians are really consistenly good to hilarious. Be prepared to cheer on all the comedians, as it just gets more funny when you do. This is an exceptional venue at a coffee house/bakery ...... but leave room for me. LOL read more

I was visiting my brother and his girlfriend who just moved to San Diego and we wanted to do something different. I found this little gem on yelp and we took off! We LOVED it! The venue is decent size, not too big, not too small, but seats a comfortable amount of people. It is clean and well kept and it is BYOB/food. (We really liked that) there's a bakery next door that served during the show (amazingly good). 11/10 I want to go back just to go again. read more

Amazing experience! Husband and I did not expect to have such a great time here but the laughs kept coming for 1.5 hours! Special thanks to the awesome comedians who made our night on 02/16/19. It's super hard to be funny y'all and these guys freaking crushed it. They rocked the house! PRO TIPS: -FREE! But bring cash to tip! -Bring your own food/drinks -Get there around 30 minutes before show time to guarantee a seat or you'll have to stand the whole time! -Event says for people 12+ y/o but there were quiet a bit of curse words and mature content. Doors open at 7:30pm, and the show starts promptly(!) at 8pm (lookin' at you Mad House...). The host, Al Gavi has always been there with a rotating secondary host. There's some hits and misses each night, usually 4-5 comedians a night and there is at least 1 good one. On a bad night, I've seen 1 out of 5 funny comedians. Unfortunately, I've seen people walk out after one of the comedians have performed--yes it can be that bad. But they missed out on a really funny comedian (Ryan Hicks) at the end of the night, so I'd advise you stick through it or you'll miss out! Unfortunately for those that aren't their first time here, they bring back certain comedians i.e. Tony Calabrese and they repeat the same material so it's not "always fresh, always funny" like they claim on their website. I love that they don't charge a cover like Mad House does, and you can bring your own food/drinks. The fabric seats on the left side of the house are not as comfortable as the leather chairs, and have needed to readjust constantly to prevent my lower half from falling asleep the whole night. All in all, if you're not doing anything on Saturday night, I'd highly recommend coming here for some free laughs. read more

"Constant companion" was really skeptical when I told him that we were going to a comedy club without a cover/drink minimum that just operated off of tips. I also didn't know what kind of quality to expect out of the show, but this was a great night out in San Diego! We arrived way too early. The doors don't really "open." When I read that initially, I expected to have to get there early and wait in line. However, the door was "open" way before 7:30. You can just walk in and sit down while they finish setting up. Bring some snacks and beverages (including alcohol) with you. This makes the outing even more affordable, and they allow it as long as you throw away your garbage outside. The show started off a little slow. It definitely builds to the headliner at the end. However, I enjoyed every comedian. Overall, it had good momentum. I especially enjoyed the headliner Cliff Cash. He was obviously the most seasoned of the night, but again I appreciated everyone's performance. Many of them sprinkled in local/regional jokes, so that made it more fun. My biggest complaint is that I don't think the audience members tipped enough. Don't be jerks, people. This could easily cost you $30/person but it doesn't. read more

For a donation-based show, this was great! Yes, this is not NYC or LA-grade of comedians, but they are pretty amazing and had local jokes. Clean comedy? Mostly. No food and drinks at the place, but you can bring your own (there is a liquor store right across the street). The place is small and can fit probably 50 people. Comedy Heights is connected to the coffee shop, so you can get a coffee next door. There are two unisex restrooms in the back. I would certainly come back, this time with a drink ;) read more

My Friends, I attend Comedy Heights with regularity. It must be my fiber supplement. The shows have been hilariously entertaining. Last week's show was a nutty knee slapper. I had tears in my ears laying on my back laughing. Maria Herman headlined with gal pals Charlene Mae and Laura Hayden. It was a super duper party show. Ms. Herman brought the house down. Then up it stood to sing happy birthday. Charlene Mae had me howling with laughter. Her excellent mixture of set pieces and audience work reminded me of Rosie O'Donnell and Carol Burnett. Laura Hayden, hosting in fine black studded leather stilettos, kicked comedy sass, with her phone number pic schitck bit. It never stopped bringing laughs. Show Producers: If these hallowed walls of hilarity could laugh, they'd be chuckling the praises of producers Al Gavi and Maria Herman. The producers of Comedy Heights have guided this showcase to the known edges of San Diego County, from a once per week show to six different venues starting Thursdays to Mondays. They know what many are discovering. The shticky secret is that comedians and audiences alike love Comedy Heights and the venues for its genuine quality and intimacy. Comedians appreciate getting time on stage. Audiences are treated to the multitude of comics from all walks of life, and some with walkers of life. Love this place! I've performed there and been an audience member and its been fun either way. Maria, Al and Tony are the best. I have to confess that I sometimes don't like show promoters. Truth is that some of them suck. I love the folks at Comedy Heights. They are always real with me. I appreciate that as a comic. As a comic, I love their crowds and I love the simpleness of the room itself. The crowd is packed in tightly and seated close to the stage. So intimate! I can feel the love coming from the crowd. It's like we're old friends meeting again after a long separation. From a comic's view, it is hard to fail in a room like this. It's perfect. Everyone should check it out before they become big time. Last night's show was exceptionally good. Ron Ruhman, Tracie Walker, Al Gavi, Matin Atrushi and me had stellar sets. As is always the case at Comedy Heights, the room was packed and overflowing onto the sidewalk outside. I love when people want to pay for a free show but even they can't get a seat because there is not a vacant one to be had. Not even standing room was available. Talk about a rush! Been here a couple times now, first time was on a date with a lawyer. The sets were really good. A lot of these comedians perform in LA and other cities. They pass a hat around at the end for donations. Please support your comedians! They deserve it and I'm sure only make change off of this. Some friends brought me here on 08/10/19 and I was blown away at the talent that we heard at a free venue. I think there were 5 comedians and all were very funny. You can bring any food or drink with you to enjoy during the show as long as you take your trash out when you leave. There's a trash can conveniently located by the door as you leave. They have no food or drinks there, but there is a cute coffee shop right behind it. Show starts at 8:00 sharp and you need to be a little early to get a seat. PLEASE remember to bring cash to tip. They pass a hat at the end of the show to split among the comedians and a show of this quality would cost you $45 or more. So drop some dough in the tip bucket so this venue continues for many years to come. read more

We had been disappointed with the last comedy venue we went to as the topics were in poor taste filled and with too many f bombs (and yes, we paid for these tickets). I was apprehensive at first as it is promoted a FREE venue and was not sure about the level of talent. However, Comedy Heights was a complete surprise.... Decided to check out Comedy Heights for the first time last night, and I wasn't disappointed. It's free, and, if you show up early, parking can be found. I showed up around 7:20, found parking, and grabbed some coffee at the cafe next door (they are connected by a back hallway and share restrooms), and had plenty of time to settle in before the show. We had a packed house, but it's also a very small venue, maybe 75 people total. It's a clean show, meaning (almost) no profanity, but it's not for kids, at least in the traditional sense that there are sex and pedophile jokes and it lasts til nearly 10 PM. The comics were great, and I really dug the intimate vibe. How intimate, you ask? One of the comics reached out and ruffled the hair of one guy in the front row. So, yeah, it's pretty close quarters. I absolutely recommend it-- quality performers, and you pick the amount you contribute! read more

Wow what a gem! Had an absolute blast here last Saturday night. No frills space, super casual, free if you want it to be (they pass a hat for donations), and some truly hilarious comics. We showed up only a few minutes before 8 and got some of the last seats before the show started. Yes, parking is tough. As the night went on more and more people kept showing up, chairs kept appearing out of back rooms, and some people even ended up standing in the back and near the door. I'm guessing the raucous laughter might have been drawing people in from the streets to see what the heck was going on. As others have said in the reviews, the crowd is diverse. Wide age range. Very welcoming. It definitely seems like a labor of love by those organizing and performing. I can't wait to go back. read more

Loved Mary Patterson Broome's set last night! Great crowd and fun space. However the host was a let down, he opened the show with some very blue comedy. Which I find to be cheap and weak, he made very sexist jokes. He talked about women's boobs and not being able to hear what a woman is saying if her boobs are large. I can laugh at crude humor but this was straight up sexist. The other comics were great and had hilarious material and delivery. I will definitely be back to see more shows but I don't support outdated,sexist humor that belittles minorities and encourages social ideologies. Comedy heights do better. But I have to give 5 star recognition to this place, the host, the concept, the comedians. Legitimately one of the best comedy shows I've been to in years, from LA to New York, it stands up. I really appreciate a place like Comedy Heights. It seems like their whole goal is to put on a show that people would enjoy and have fun. Where else can you find a weekly comedy show that is free to the public and has some funny comedians? Comedy Heights is connected to Twigg's coffee shop so you can grab a drink right before the show. Actually, you can bring anything (food, drink, hot cheetos) to snack on while enjoying the show. It wasn't too crowded when I went but I've heard that it can get pretty packed in the room since there are a limited number of seats. It's a cool atmosphere, but like most people say, there's no air conditioning so it can get hot in there. There is no cover, so I completely understand. But be ready, bring a cold drink, towel, or your sauna robe. There were about 6-7 comedians for my show, with one of them being a headliner. I thought 2-3 were pretty good and made me laugh. The others definitely weren't on the same level, but there was a good laugh here or there. Hearing about previous headliners, it seems like there are some really funny people who come by here. I appreciate Comedy Heights a lot and I hope they get to keep doing what they're doing. Will definitely to come make it again, and I won't forget my sauna robe next time. read more
