For someone who lives downtown Milwaukee, I sadly have neglected this experience before last night. What a fun time! My date and I (she had been here a few times previously) were sat right up front and we had many good laughs. The team running the show were all very polite and kind, from wait staff to those checking us in and getting us to our seats. A family friendly show, it still allowed for plenty of adult humor (but not inappropriate). The comedians they have working are very quick on their feet, which in improv obviously helps, but you can genuinely tell that they enjoy what they do. The "ref" was a great host, and even the two hanging out in the sound booth had some great sound effects and music throughout, as well as keeping score. At the end I thought it was neat to get a 'high five' on the way out. Overall, great time. I'll definitely be back. read more

We've been here a few times over the years and have always had a fun evening. Most recently, we stopped by on a Saturday evening for the early show. The doors open at 6pm with the show starting at 7:30pm. We arrived just after six so we could have some dinner at their in house bar before enjoying the show. The dinner and drinks were your basic bar food (nothing special). At 7:10, they opened up the theater for folks to begin filtering in. Seats are assigned, which is nice if you're in a group and they have an usher of sorts that will show you to your seats. The show itself is incredibly interactive with the theater divided into three groups, each of which are frequently called upon to provide some bit of information (occupation, noun, movie quote, etc). While it is incredibly interactive, it's also low key and if you're not someone who likes shouting out in a theater--no need for you to do so. They also only ask for volunteers and so no worries that you'll somehow get wrangled into going up on stage if you don't want to. It was a fun and entertaining evening! Everyone in our group enjoyed and we'll certainly be back--maybe for the late show next time! Get to it! read more

Can't believe we've never been here before. Comedy was outstanding and the actors were very engaging. We were surprised to find a good old dive bar hiding inside. The food is truly bar food, but much better than you expect. The fried cauliflower is tasty and fresh, and the burgers are fantastic. The bar staff is amazing, both friendly and genuine. tl;dr cheap/fun date night if you're willing to participate and let yourself have fun. DEBBIE DOWNERS NEED NOT APPLY. If you're not someone who enjoys comedians and especially any aspect of improv comedy because you think it's "lame," then don't bother going and dampening/ruining it for others. You've got to be willing to play along, interact, give recommendations or crowd answers and I dish out to the cast mad props for the willingness to get out there, think on their feet and make a lot of jokes that land! Shout out to my favorite CSZ member Alan - his quick whit, timing and ability to pantomime so well gets me every time! There are a series of shows - like everyone else before me there are plenty of kiddos for earlier shows and it's PG-friendly and has a team vs. team setup. I usually wind up at either the 10 PM show (mostly adults) or the midnite show. The venue is good - I usually always try and find a table open on the main floor. You can also order food and drink while you're watching, but I stick with just drinks during, as the flow from the kitchen isn't 100% when shows are in full swing. I would say a show would be a great date night opportunity, however the Midnite show should ONLY be done if you're super familiar with your date and their humor. Reasons for the midnite show: - It's $5 - It's R-rated - It's more causal The midnite show is not for the faint of heart, some humor (again, depending on the crowd) can become pretty dark or pretty scandalous pretty fast. Also realize that sometimes (just like everyone) the cast may have "off" nights and depending on the audience and its creativity, some skits can sometimes struggle or limp along. Appreciate it for what it is, go with an open mind and enjoy. read more

I'm glad we have something like this in Milwaukee. When I have visitors in town this is always something I put on the agenda to be enjoyed. Recently I ventured to Comedy Sportz. It wasn't my first visit, probably my fourth. The 10pm $10 show was pretty darn good and my previous 1 or 2 experiences would get a solid 3 to 4 stars. They really don't pressure you here to get a certain amount of drinks, either. There are "teams" and those teams "battle" each other using different methodologies. It is quite entertaining and I really like that they mix it up. There is a referee that oversees and enforces the rules of the battles. Keep in mind, this requires audience participation. Don't worry, it mostly comes in the form of shouting things out that the comics must use in their skit (nouns, verbs, etc). The crowd can sometimes get a bit annoying because they try to "be cool" by using the most atypical verbiage. For me, this makes the skits less funny, not funnier. I really wish the referee would ignore them. (case in point: someone who was obviously scouring the dictionary and has been here before shouted out "anthropomorphic" and that's the word they had to use in the skit. Kina sucked.) We convinced ourselves to stay for that Midnight "Adult" show. We liked the first show and were excited to check out the grown up show, which I never have before. It was $5 instead of $10. That Midnight show wasn't worth the $5, is why I have to dock my star rating for Comedy Sportz and really fulfills the notion that if a comic is really THAT funny, they shouldn't have to swear or be perverse. The midnight show was terrible. My reasons are: - it wasn't as funny - it became uncomfortably misogynistic at one point (I am not an overly sensitive person to race or gender with jokes - ever! this just had zero class at times) - the main comic was completely Drunk on stage and I really didn't appreciate him working drunk. even a buzz probably wouldn't be a big deal, but dude was slurring drunk - they never changed pace like the first show. it was the same skit for 1.5 hours. The same thing over and over and over and the drunk comic had to guess a bunch of words. If he didn't guess the words, they kept trying and trying. Even when drunk comic finally said "I give up" and flipped off the audience because he couldn't get the words at one point, the rest of his comic friends on stage gave him more hints and even spoke in regular English (though the skit was supposed to be done in all gibberish) so they broke their own rules. I really couldn't wait to get out of there. I won't go back for the midnight show but would for earlier shows. And another thing is the staff was rude at times and did not seem to appreciate at all us bothering them (you know, to BUY drinks and questions about BUYING tickets for future shows - we have some nerve, eh?). I guess they think if they work at a Comedy place they don't need to be nice? read more

We really enjoyed our night here! We went for the 10:00pm showing based on suggestions from our friends. We were given a BOGO ticket, so we only had to pay $10 for Rachael and I to get in. I feel like $20 would have been a lot, but if you don't plan on coming every Friday or Saturday, then it's not really that expensive for 2 people. We did not try the food, but we did order drinks, but I don't think we'll do that again. Drinking while you're out is so expensive, but these drinks were NOT worth it. Not at all. We had a great time though! Our friends had said that they have been to better shows, but we liked it! Sometimes I was confused but I definitely found myself laughing a lot. I think it's a nice night out if you're bored or don't have any plans. We'll definitely go back for another show at some point. read more

The entertainment, food and drinks are great. I have seen close to a dozen shows at this location - it's fun for people of all ages. Rather than wasting money at a regular bar on overpriced drinks, in a place you can't hear conversation without yelling or feeling judged, this is a great alternative to take friends, family, or even a date! The earlier shows have a handful of kids but there is one at midnight for adults only (uncensored). Personally, I recommend the 10:00 PM showing as it's usually all adults and you get the full-length act. The uncensored midnight one is funny, but much shorter... also, the audience suggestions usually end up being predictable so it gets redundant and feels uninspired after you've seen it once - that is not the case with the earlier shows. I usually end up ordering the nachos and mozzarella BEFORE the show as the kitchen is always slow. You're able to enjoy food and beverages in the arena, so I place my alcohol order once I've been seated. Lastly, the cast and staff are pretty welcoming/approachable. I was able to take a picture with one of the players on the stage after the show. Was a nice way to preserve a special date. read more

Our family has a great time here. The show was fast paced and funny and the players were high energy and very committed. Here's my only gripe l. We all know landfills are overflowing and the ocean is filled with plastic. Comedy Sportz is still using the worst possible, single use, disposable serving wear for their food and drink. To be fair, I came here because my best friend was performing. So I am a little biased. Still, even as a person who doesn't drink alcohol, I liked it here. The performers put on a comedy show to the best of their ability (depending on the show you see, they might be students with varying levels of experience). There is a bar area that I largely ignored, but it had two points in its favor. 1) Arcade games to the side, and 2) the TV was unexpectedly set to an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, instead of some asinine sports game. Been here several times now, all of them being the 7:30, family friendly version. When I say family friendly, it is clean fun for all ages, but I don't think anyone under the age of 10 would understand or enjoy. There is however an earlier show which I think is geared towards the younger kids and there is a later show geared towards adults. They change up the team comedians so it does change around and I've found it funny each time I've gone. There really is not a bad seat in the house and the prices for the tickets are very reasonable. The on line ticket purchase works really well. They to a good amount of interacting with the audience which keeps things energized for most of the time the show is going on. As for the food. It's not much of a menu and the food is nothing to write about. It's eatable and nothing fancy. What we do is eat either after or before the show as there are several good places to eat at within a short distance. The wait staff is good and tentative considering the number of people each server needs to tend to. All staff members are friendly and make you feel welcomed. In short, if you're looking for some good laughs with the family or friends, then this is a good, unique option. If you're coming here, you are doing so for the comedy show, and not the fold. Defently a good place to bring out of town guest as well! read more

You know how places have a thing and they stick to that thing so much that it kind of drives you a little crazy? That's me and how I feel about ComedySportz. I love improv. It's hilarious, and I'm blown away by anyone who has the nerve to get up and make a fool of themselves. I love it. However, Comedy Sportz REEEEEALLY loves its play on sports, complete with a referee and penalties, uniforms, and basically bleacher-like seating. The whole schtick drove me crazy. It's a great, kid-friendly place that's very affordable, but be prepared for a lot of sports puns. read more

Shows: I've only been here for Sketch 22, and they have been very entertaining, mostly the reason why I come to Milwaukee from the Chicago area. Other shows are available though I haven't been to them yet. Food & Service: bartenders are hard working folks with many people ordering, so if you don't get your drink quickly enough, wait a bit more. I recall the last few times I've been there and they (the 2 bartenders) have to serve both the customers at the bar AND the patrons in the sketch/venue rooms. Please, give the bartenders a break. As for food, well, they've either take a long, long time to get the food out, or they skip you. I've had problems with food everytime I come to CSm with the last time a no show. Since I didn't want to ruin a night with my no show food order as well as others in my company, I just skipped it. You guys missed a good tip too, so buck up your food service next time! Misc: ticket people and personnel were cool. They told me where to go if I was lost, and were otherwise big time on hospitality. Also some of these folks work in the shows too, so they'll be nice and helpful with a slight comedic twist. -2 stars for the food FU, but will still come back for the Sketches and revues. I'll order my dinner elsewhere, where there better service in Fairfield or Dretzka Park. read more

Have your special event here! For real! It's a SUPER casual venue but the staff is excellent and so is the food. We had our wedding reception at Comedy Sportz on 9/24 and we had an absolute blast. We booked their in-house catering (All American Buffet) and a 4 person exposition match. Comedy Sportz created an extremely tailored experience for us with great food, a custom partial-open-bar arrangement, and a hilarious comedy show. They checked in with us frequently to make sure everything was going according to our wishes, and they didn't seem to miss a beat. Our guests had a terrific time, awesome experience! I didn't attend a CSZ show that night. I only hung out in the bar for their reasonably priced drinks and bar food. The bartenders were fun and friendly. My friend and I ordered Nachos, Mozzarella sticks, and girly drinks. We got the Nachos and the drinks pretty quick. After an extra 15 minutes we followed up with the staff about our fried cheese. Unfortunately, she forgot to enter that item. She was helpful in correcting the situation and we were satisfied with that. The bar is a nice place to meet up before a show at Comedy Sportz or hang out after. read more

ComedySportz is an improv comedy club that provides a fun night out with or without alcohol. The place is know for its adult late night show where "anything goes." So, start brainstorming some good things and occupations now, so that you have some good go to call outs to spark on the creativity of the comedians. Also, ComedySportz offers improv classes where even the moderately entertaining can become downright hilarious. My friend took the classes and his finale performance (or as I called it... his recital) was amazing! One day I'll take the plunge and take a class, but until then... Hard to find somewhere to take an under-ager and still have good fun - I found the right spot! Took my sister here for her 19th birthday on Friday. We made reservations and called ahead to tell them about the occasion - which I recommend! They did a couple shout outs to her during the show and put her name up on the screen at the beginning. The venue is small and a little dirty, but what're you gonna do. They have a full bar - and at 10:00 on a Friday it was only manned by one bartender which I thought was a little odd. Still - he was quick enough with the service. They have waitstaff for the tables, however no one ever came to our table, she just kind of danced around us, causing us to go to the bar to order every drink/snack. Comedy Sportz is a hidden gem in Milwaukee. Upon entering this place i didn't know what to expect. There was a guy at the door cracking jokes taking the cash for the cover which was 5 bucks no credit cards. I was cool with that. As i was waiting for the midnight show i casually strolled to the bar to buy a drink. To my surprise they sold food! Chicken wings also! Who would've guessed it? So the show was housed in the auditorium which was a fairly good size. The stage was OK not the best, and the sound system was average it did its job. The improv was hilarious! there were talks or dolphins and bukkakke. How could you pair those two together? The performers really did a lot to get the crowd involved and Incorporated the crowd in to the improv. I would go again. Warning! this is not a place to get really dressed up to go to! It has more of a college student hipster vibe. The only con that i have for this place is that there wasn't a lot of diversity on the stage or in the audience. I'm sure its not because of the establishment because i felt welcomed and comfortable. So i think that if it were a little more diverse it would be a 5 star. read more

I was recently in town visiting some friends and the suggested we check out the improve place. It was great, and very affordable. There are two groups of actors and challenge each other to out funny the others. I had much more a better time thank i assumed i would. The teams were so quick and fresh, my favorite was a guy named Jacob. The scene they were doing got changed into a musical. That guy can belt it out amazingly! He was great! The also had really good food, I had a veggie wrap that had every veggie under the sun grilled to perfection in a warm tortilla. I also had to tip my hat to the waiter and waitress. The place is set up like a stadium and they hoofed it up and down those stairs quickly and never once disturbing the show.This place was great and next time i'm in town i want to check out the late night show. Had a blast here with my girl this past Friday. We had a swanky dinner at Smyth and she had grabbed us tickets to this show to do something fun and different. We arrived late and had to grab our tickets at will call, no problems at all. Grabbed 2 drinks at the bar (nice and cheap, only about $7 for a double vodka tonic!) and headed into the theater, but heads up they do have servers in the theater for both drink and food. The concept is 2 improv teams with a ref as the moderator, topics touch on everything and there is TONS of crowd interaction (if you so desire). The guys were damn funny and the show lasts about an hour, with a 10 min intermission. Highly recommend it, laughed tons and had a great time! read more

I went to Comedysportz last night and had a blast! I'm a huge fan of improv comedy to begin with and the performers were awesome! I loved the amount of audience participation that is required for the performance, and I feel our night was especially enjoyable because of the great crowd that was there (that could be hit or miss, I think, so we lucked out). The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because of the service I received from one of the bartenders. She had to be the most unfriendly, rude bartender I've ever encountered and it was such a buzz kill at a place like that! read more

My husband and I came here on a whim, not knowing what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. The comedians were hilarious! And clean! We had such a good time we thought we would stay for the midnight show. The midnight show is supposed to be more adult material. Thank God it was only $5. I've been coming here for years. The bar staff are all very friendly and welcoming. The drink and food prices are more than reasonable. I recommend the Biffalo Chicken Wrap. Be sure to ask for ranch inside. It's amazing. The Sportz Players put on a consistently good show, and if you're willing to take a risk there are many solid independent shows in the Garage.
