Fun space- it's so much harder than it looks so don't get frustrated! Their team does a nice job training you on safety and technique.

We rented a lane for NYE and had a blast! The lane came with a cocktail for each person, hats and beads, and a bottle of sparkling wine! Marlee was clear and informative in training us on the rules and Nick gave us a lot of pointers as we figured out the technique. Even though it was late and the employees probably wanted to head out, no one was pushy about getting us off the lane at the end of the night and let us keep throwing. We were very happy with all the staff (Esme, Emily, Justin). If I did it again the only thing I would do differently is not pre-purchase balloons because the staff gave free ones to every lane.

I organized an Axe throwing Galnetines gathering for my colleagues and myself yesterday and what a BLAST it was! From the time of booking the lanes to coordinating with the staff, it was a very easy process. The staff (S/o to Zoe and Shawn!) Was super friendly, helpful and experts in axe throwing. They happily showed us how to throw correctly and made the axe throwing process fun and competitive! Their hot toddys are very comforting and went very well on this cold snowy day. All covid procedures were followed and implemented making this a very safe experience! Kudos!

Fun location for a group or date night. Would recommend making a reservation even on a week night because of how busy it gets. Parking is tough in that area but there are a few fun restaurants and bars close by. They don't really have a food options but have a full service bar.

Ok, it is like so fun. So unique. Not something you could do often or regularly, I don't think, because it is very pricey. Chucking that axe and getting it to first of all, stick, then land in the spot you want it is harder than it looks! HAH! They do give you some instructions on how to properly hold and throw. Then, some of that goes out the window when you're actually doing it. So, they may come over and re-teach you again :) You get a time slot for the lane. So, you want to get there on time/early to sign the waiver, order drinks and such in order to maximize your lane time and $$ spent. I liked they had the canned Babe Rose. I'd do this again and from time-to-time.

Yelping is my weird, nerdy activity that I don't tell many of my friends about (unless they happen to find me on here. Hi, guys!), and this place was BUZZING before it was open. I knew I had to check it out. When my friend from Chicago decided to come up for the weekend, I knew this is where we were going to go. I had no idea what to expect. How does one prepare for axe throwing aside from worrying about amputated limbs? Being a paranoid human, I was a bit concerned about safety, but the staff have an abundance of precautions in place. It was the good arm workout as well, which was an added bonus. It's not cheap, that's for sure. I think we paid $30 each and then drinks are a bit more than standard cost. However, it's so different than other normal weekend activities that it's well worth the price. Too, because of all the wood, it smells like one of those amazing winter-scented candles. My friend and I had an absolute blast. I know I'll be back!

Love the other options to sit and hangout away from the bar!

As crazy as it sounds... grab a drink and throw some axes!! Of course there's a waiver involved but everyone throwing axes gets a training beforehand and your trainer checks back occasionally to make sure everything is going okay. Plenty of staff floating around too in case you do have questions. $15/ half hour & $20/ hour (per person) - just pay the extra $5 and go for the hour cuz time flies when you're throwing axes. It was cool seeing a guy sharpening axes outside when we walked up - nothing more intriguing than sparks flying (away from the people walking by) when you're considering actually throwing axes with alcohol. The sounds of axes hitting wood and the crowd heard through the open bar front also lured us in, of course. I would recommend reservations beforehand because as this place gains popularity, I'm not so sure you'll be able to walk in and grab a couple lanes as we did tonight. The atmosphere was so much fun, with people laughing, cheering and good efforts by all throwing axes. All of the staff members were friendly and helpful, even when I ordered something off of their drink menus. Impressive selection of alcohol and even a few snacks if you need a light bite (big pretzels & sweets). It's helpful the bar area separates drink order customers (off to the sides) from the ax throwing signups (front and center) so people don't end up waiting when they might not have too. Definitely check this place out - even if you don't want to throw axes yourself (but you will!), it's just as much fun to cheer your friends on & watch neighboring lanes too. AXE MKE ROX!

Yep! Been there and (gladly) done that. When a fun random Friday ends up in this, you know Milwaukee is getting creative by the day (and night). Went there after a Moth show and just happened to pass by it and really got intrigued by this concept. The place is sort of rustic with a lot of wood (obviously) and was very open so gives you great summer vibes. They had a fun cocktail and beer+wine menu and I tried the Texas Bull which has Grapefruit Vodka and was a really nice drink. They charge $15/person for half an hour for a booth and $20 for an hour. The hour seems to be a better deal if you know you will hang around for a while but if its your first time and you are just there to try it out then half an hour is plenty of time. One person from their team will come and train you and explain you the rules before you can start throwing the axes around. It's a decently heavy axe but not too sharp. It's a lot of fun to throw it and aim at the Bulls eye! You can compete and have fun :) A great place for a group event and hang out with friends with nice drinks. Highly recommend this to anyone who would like to try out something fun and different in Milwaukee.

Axe MKE is so fun! My girlfriend and I had a great time, the place was a good vibe, good music, good drinks. Juan was an amazing axe instructor especially for first timers who just wanted to have a good time. We highly recommend coming here for a fun night out.

This was a super fun experience! We celebrated a birthday and came here after dinner. What I loved: - good music - fun employees - unique experience - fun atmosphere The only cons were that there isn't a lot of extra seating. We came on a Saturday night around 10pm, so I'm sure that's why! It got pretty packed in there, but the servers were still attentive and the other guests were all fun and outgoing. The explain things very well over a microphone so everyone can hear, and they walk around to help you do practice throws if you're not doing too well. Really fun!

Loved it! This is still pretty fresh to Milwaukee and I have had it on my wishlist for quite some time. My friends and I called ahead and reserved a few lanes for a Monday night and were glad we did because it was surprisingly busy for a Monday. You arrive and fill out a waiver (or you can do this ahead of time online), pay and grab a wristband. You are welcomed to grab a drink if you would like or head to your lane to wait for your safety session. We were quickly greeted at our lane and got the rundown which was the perfect amount of info. Enough to keep you very safe, but not too much that you are wanting to rip your hair out with boredom. In no time we were on our way. I will say it was a little more challenging than I thought at first, but once I got the hang of it it was a blast. Everyone we were with had a great time-it was awesome to try something new and laugh along the way. We can't wait to stop back in the summer when they can open the garage door and let in the summer air. What a fun activity to try!

**** HIGHLY RECOMMEND **** What a concept!! Drink a beer, thrown an axe. While this doesn't seem like a safe idea, they keep an eye on you there, making sure no one is intoxicated or acting stupid. And I doubt people will get trashed while there...but who knows, it IS Milwaukee afterall (don't deny it, cheeseheads). With that being said, I'd highly recommend going here for a date night, girls' night out, bachelor party, family fun night, co-worker bonding - I mean, really, do you need any other reasons to throw an axe for 90 minutes? Upon arrival, we were given bracelets and taught how to safely and successfully thrown an axe. They will tell you everything you need to know to have a safe and fun experience. $30/person for 90 minutes. While it was very physically tiring (we apparently need to hit the gym), it was a good amount of time for us. We actually would have been fine with just 60 minutes. Much to my shock, I ended up getting 8 bullseyes (this is the same girl who bowls a 50 and can't throw a baseball without hurting herself). Being good at axe throwing must have to do with my viking Norse blood?? My husband got 12 bullseyes, so really it's less about having viking blood, and more about technique. ;) I hate to brag, but we stopped ringing the 'bullseye bell' after a couple of times. Didn't want to be the show-offs. ;) Since we shredded up that bulls eye - they had to change the middle board while we waited. And then tacked on 15 minutes of play time for us free of charge. Thanks guys!! The workers will come around and watch you throw now and then and give you pointers. I'm not sure if it helped. I feel like I did better when I was doing my own thing. Even if you don't like sports, and can't aim for crap, you HAVE to try this out! It is very therapeutic!!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! My husbands company booked AXE MKE for one of their annual parties. We had such a great time bonding with coworkers and had a lot of laughs as we tried to master our axe throwing skills. The environment was fun, the music was awesome, and the drinks were delicious! Everyone was very nice and helpful with teaching us the techniques of the master axe throwers. The staff made sure everyone was being safe and that everyone was having a great time. This is a great place to go for group events, random nightly activities, or just to come to practice your master axe throwing skills and drink a great beverage!

The spread was laughable for the price paid. The pizza was probably the best value. What sucks the most is that they take everything away after an hour and a half, even the "safe to leave out" things like pretzels. You can't leave food out that we paid for, especially if it's not a health concern? Maybe provide boxes so people could take things home? Wasteful and disappointing. The pizza and garlic bread got the best reviews. Cheese and veggie tray were what you'd expect. The staff behind the bar were friendly and quick to help, but I wasn't a fan of the demo provider. Spoke quietly and was upset that the group couldn't hear him though it was pretty full in the event space with another party who was already underway. The idea was unique enough but you'll need extra time to set up the courses. Overall, not impressed with this venue. Recommend any other Bars and Rec instead.

We had a reservation, and it was only our group and the staff, which was nice and private for us to go wild. We split into teams and had 30 minutes to build our course. I will say ours was the best. After that, we all took turns trying out each other's courses. It was so much fun, and I would definitely recommend it for a team/office outing or just a party with some friends/family.

tl;dr - Drinking, axe throwin' and escape rooms. Gets your adrenaline pumping!…read more What a crazy night to wind up here! I was grabbing dinner in Waukesha on a Tuesday night and wanted to try and swing by Raised Grain for a quick beer. It was around 9 pm and sure enough, Raised Grain was closed. Further back in the same parking lot ... something about a lit "open" sign drew me in ... I took a few steps in the front door and lo and behold ... a gigantic taxidermy bear greeted me. "WHAT HAVE I WALKED INTO!?" I wondered. Answer: Lumber Axe. This place is the first in Waukesha County to feature axe throwing and has only been open for a few weeks now. I had no idea what to expect, but it's got a lot of cool "mountain man" decor and giant wooden targets as well a separate area for the escape rooms. Craft (bottled) beers and mixed drinks keep the night going - but read the sign in the photo area, as zero-tolerance policy when it comes to safety and there is a staff member monitoring and showing you what to do for the axe throwing. Think darts on steroids. You do have to sign off on an electronic disclaimer form which allows you to participate in the axe throwing and escape rooms. You can throw multiple times and we were able to learn the different methods of throwing (two-handed throwing, one-handed throwing) and also playing a "good natured" (depending on your company) competitive axe throwing game. Tweens and older can participate as long as there's adult supervision. Also, there are only five ranges, each with two lanes for two targets which means reservations might be a good idea as this place starts to get busier and more noticed! Great for groups, I told my boss about the place in passing and she's already debating on having a company summer event there. P.S. It sounds like the business is trying to get together or host an "axe throwing league" similar to darts, pool and bean bags! No food, but sounds like you can bring delivery or catering in. As you can tell, this place is very new and it was my first time there (and I haven't tried an escape room yet), so I will be sure to make a return visit and revise or update this review as needed!

Ellen, the lead axe coach, would come and talk to me and convinced me to try axe throwing, and it is a lot of fun, and Ellen is amazing. The owners and employees treated me very well until the end of September, when they decided to replace the arcade with "Krazy Golf" and banned me from their Facebook page for saying I'd have to find something else to do in response to the removal of the games. The bartenders (especially Kris) also scolded me for daring to say anything about it too and told me the owners would tell me to get the hell out. I have never been to a business that treated their customers this way. There have also been several now-former employees who have told me that the owners treated them like garbage. It also sounds like the owners moved from a nice location to this and don't understand Waukesha AT ALL. You're in a college town. All your competition is open until 2 AM. I don't care if you don't want to deal with the late night crowd. And no real signage for Lumber Axe or advertising? Nobody knows you're there! Utter incompetence on all sides here. Do yourselves a favor and avoid this, Krazy Golf, and any other businesses owned by these people. They don't care about their employees or customers at all.
