Very accessible comedy show. Smooth booking experience and parking is super easy in their parking lot. My one complaint is the seating. They put the chairs REALLY close together. I'm a shorter and average-sized woman and I still felt uncomfy. Improv is HARD, so I have a lot of respect for the performers and how much they were able to make us laugh. There are a few A+ players and others who seemed newer to the game. But I had a lot of fun and enjoyed supporting my local comedy scene! $20/ticket for 90 minutes. read more

I am a big fan of live standup comedy. When I got the opportunity to watch live improv comedy I was excited to watch a different type of comedy. We arrived for the 7:00pm Saturday showing at Comedy Sportz. The comedy theater is located in a nice plaza across from Oakridge Mall in San Jose. Parking is accessible in the large parking lot. The staff was friendly and accommodating. With it being mostly a packed house, there was a nice Saturday night vibe going on. I appreciated that the show was suitable for all ages. The show itself was a different unique brand of comedy I'm not used to usually watching live. The talent these performers displayed with their improvisation and wittiness was outstanding. We enjoyed the crowd participation and high energy from the referee host. One hilarious highlight we enjoyed a lot was when the referee host asked for the performers to act out the skit in forward and backward. The format did remind me of the tv show, Whose line is it anyway?, of course. There was 10 minute intermission towards the last part of the show. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Comedy Sportz. I found most of the skits to be funny at times. My 10 year old son really enjoyed the show, which I appreciated it since I was not sure what his reaction was gonna be. Didn't know that they've been around since 1987! What a fun event to do at ComedySportz for a date, or for a group of friends hangout! They have 2 shows, one at 7:30pm for everyone, and a later show around 9:30 for adults only. Parking is easy as it's on a strip mall, right next to it is the big West San Jose mall where you can go shopping and eating before going to the show. All staff there are super friendly, the site is clean and even the restroom is well stocked (think of lady's room with pads and tempons!). There's a concession window selling non alcoholic drinks and snacks and popcorn. We even found a rare pineapple flavor Fanta! The show was run by a host that guided us through the rules and also motivated the audience participations, a score counting person David at the back, and 2 teams of 4 players each that play funny games or acted out funny skids to compete. Everything is hilarious and the audience's merciless suggestions fueled the comedy with fierce competitions and ruthless laughs. It was such a fun night! At the end of the show, all players lined up to shake hands and high five with the audience and you can even have a picture with them all at the very end. The price is very reasonable at $20 and if you join their loyalty club, you earn points for each ticket you buy. After buying 5 tickets you get to have a free one. They also offer stand up comedy classes and team building events. They will also travel to your site for the roadshow. Cannot recommend it enough! read more

It was such a blast! We couldn't get tickets a couple weeks ago since it was sold out so we lucked out this time! Not many people - maybe because it was a holiday? I suggest buying tickets in advance at least 1-2 weeks. Each player was so kind and friendly. I saw Jeff about 20 years ago. He's great! The key chain library in the lobby was so fun for the kids. I have to remember to bring one to leave next time. The kids 12 years old loved every minute. My daughter's friend said she's coming for her next birthday. A MILLION STARZZZ for ComedySportz. I actually had no idea what this was all about, but decided it would be something new and interesting to do on a Friday night. I had no idea so many famous alums came from the humble beginnings of ComedySportz (not necessarily this location). The premise is there's two teams competing for points and they perform various skits that are ALL improvised. There's no way I would excel at this because you gotta be quick on your feet and I am not witty at all. The referee does a good job incorporating the crowd by asking for suggestions for the scenes. They sell some snacks and drinks for about $3-4, so they don't really try to rip you off. Seems like they really do want you to have a good time. They also sell swatters (I forget the actual name), but they come in a pair of red and blue colors which you ultimately use to vote for what team you want like best. Tickets are $20 for the early show and $10 for the lates - or a discounted rate if you go to both. Not a bad price for an evening of laughs! read more

Comedy sports is a venue near Oakridge Mall. They do an improvisational comedy show where teams compete against one another. The theater is small so you feel like you're really close to the action. There is audience participation and you can shout suggestions for topics and parameters for the various contests. They have two shows, the earlier one is open to all ages and we felt like the later show would've been more fun and edgy. There were very young children at the first show, including infants and elementary school age. And thus the comedy was extremely tame. The teams were entertaining, despite one character falling back on her overly loud and dramatic persona a few too many times. The MC-referee was terrific at getting the crowd involved and keeping the show moving forward. They do have snacks and beverages to purchase. For an extra charge, you can purchase the flyswatters that allow you to vote for your favorite team. You get a blue and a red swatter that you raise based on your vote of who you think one around. You keep the flyswatters. I suspect you can bring them next time if you want so you don't need to purchase them again. Overall, it was a super fun evening and the teams do a great job to incorporate audience input into their routines. If you have a large group or you need something to do with your underage family members, this might be a great option. read more

I went to a 7pm show on a Saturday and I have to acknowledge that this was too family friendly. For some reason there was an abundance of children in the audience. I also think the referee spent too much time explaining all the rules. As an audience I think it's easy to catch on and doesnt require so much explanation. I would describe the show as a family friendly version of "Whose Line Is It Anyway". I did still find the show humorous and entertaining. Better than I expected. They take a short intermission half way through the show for maybe 5-10 minutes. They have a small concession stand in the back with snacks, popcorn, and sodas. There is no alcohol served here. Plenty of parking. The staff is very friendly. Overall I would recommend for a date night, but maybe attend the 9pm (late night) show instead which is 18 plus. read more

I haven't laughed so much in ages and now I'm wondering why I waited so long to try this place! We came for a Friday evening 7:30 pm show and it was absolutely hilarious. The jokes were family friendly, the host was energetic and engaged the audience very well and the players were so creative! They have two formats - two teams competing against each other for points, or just one team performing the whole show. The actors/players and situations change every time, and audience participation keeps the show unique and fresh, so every single show is different! Each show is approximately 90 mins has a 10 mins intermission. There is also a small shop that sells popcorn, chips, chocolates and soft drinks etc for light snacks. Parking was very easy in the shopping plaza and there are plenty of other food places nearby to grab food before or after (Jubba is a favorite of mine). I highly recommend this as a family activity, girls night out, team event or just because! I definitely will be returning. read more

We came on a Saturday evening for the ComedySportz 7:00 show and stayed for the "midnight" show (which is actually at 9pm). The actors/performers were extremely talented and hilarious, and you could tell they were having so much fun on stage. Though the sports theme is fine (performers dressed in sports gear, and split into teams with one referee, in which the winning team for each bit earns points), the 7:00 show was a bit disappointing. There were tons of kids in the audience (I believe a bday party), and the performers spent a little too much time explaining things, making it sound somewhat cheesy to make it fun for the kids, and weeding out unusable suggestions (ie. tweens not following instructions, or shouting out words that didn't fit what was being asked). My friend and I agreed that this somewhat spoiled the experience for the adults (first show only)... but then again, I'm not 100% sure if it's due to the kids in the audience, or that's just how they do things for the ComedySportz performance. I've never been to an improv show that spent so much time going over instructions, and other places provide enjoyable experiences for adults knowing that WE GET IT once actors start performing, we don't need to be taught how to clap or unnecessary commentary or slapstick comedy to grab our attention and keep us engaged. I don't mind kids being there (it's a great family activity), but I think the ComedySportz team/staff could find a better balance between making it feel like a kids show and just a regular show for adults. The later show was amazing and a big reason I'm giving 4 stars. The performers were in plain clothing (no longer the sports theme), and the Cluedunit murder mystery with audience suggestions and involvement was super entertaining, and they were able to use adult language and themes, and take adult suggestions from the audience. And it was three parts, the murder mystery, a series of plays on a suggested topic from the audience, and a game at the end. Had me laughing the entire time! I definitely liked the long form improv (midnight show) better, and it's a better deal, half the price! But I'd give the early show a chance again, to see maybe if this place is always full of kids for the ComedySportz and if it makes a difference. We had a wonderful time overall regardless. Other notes, they have a concessions stand serving snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, and there's a 20-25 minute break between the ComedySportz match and Midnight Show on Saturday night (early show was about 1 hour 30 minutes long). Also, there's plenty of parking outside in a shared lot for the plaza. By the way, if you check in on Yelp, you get free whapners. On improv comedy club. The owners are really humble and sweet. I came to a show with a bunch of friends. The host in the front was very accommodating and letting her sit together and went out of her way to make sure that we feel comfortable. There's a Great snack bar. Family friendly. From what I understand, they have classes, offer, teambuilding, and have shows that include some members from their improv classes to enlighten the audience with improv games. read more

Comedysportz is always a good time in DTSJ! They used to be on 2nd street in the same building as Psycho Donuts, and offered other concessions. It's a fun improv outing to do with families/kids (earlier show), groups, and even date night. The concierge is very professional and the actors are all very bright and witty. I signed up for the beginner class with Jeff on a recommendation from a friend who also signed up for improv classes and was a performer of the Sunday shows. The beginner class helped me get out of my comfort zone and become a better listener. It's a great way to network with other people and improve your public speaking skills. Pre-pandemic I also took my little sister here to watch a show and she loved it! They call on guests from the audience to participate and she was their little volunteer for one of the games. She had an absolute blast and laughed a lot. Most of the seats in this theatre are good, but I'd not recommend the first row because my neck hurt after a while. The third or fourth row is just right and if you tend to use the bathroom or get up to get snacks a lot, I definitely recommend the aisle so you don't disrupt the audience members. I learned that the hard way. I hope to check out another live show when things get back to normal. Bring the kiddos to the show and make it a family affair. Parking is validated for the parking structure and you can go to the concessions stand inside the theatre to get the validation. I'm all about the free parking! If you've never been to an improv show, this is not the place to start. Why? They are so polished and so funny, any other improv show will pale next to these wondrous artists. Taking bits of info from the crowd and turning them magically into an entertaining scene is their talent and they do it well. The whole concept is two teams of three competing against each other to see who can entertain the audience better. Sounds like fun, right? It is silly, inventive, ridiculous and a night that will leave your belly sore from laughter. They have two shows each night - an early 7:00 show that's family friendly and a later show that cuts a little more edge. They take these lines very seriously. If someone during the first show, on stage or in the audience, says something that is not completely wholesome and age appropriate, they make you wear a bag on your head for the rest of the scene. My friend found this out the hard way. If you end up with the brown bag, they will give you blow by blows of the scene so you don't miss too much. The improv games change every night and so do the players. They even pull people from the audience to plays games and keep the audience involved constantly by asking for suggestions, comments and votes. Oh yes, you must buy Judges Wopners so you can vote. Named after a old tv show judge, the audience votes for blue or red team by holding up fly swatters of the matching color. It's impossible to tell you the true delight of watching Comedy Sportz. Because of the pandemic, we wanted an activity that could take place virtually and would appeal to all ages. The show was such a hit! I have been to their shows multiple times over the years and I love it. Buying tickets online is easy and you get to pick your seats, there is a service fee of 2 bucks but since the tickets are only 15 bucks a person it's not a big deal to me. For all the laughs I do over the 1.5 hours it's totally worth it! It's a small venue which I also like and seems like you can get seats at the venue too if you don't buy them ahead of time. There are multiple games the 2 teams compete against and really the funniest teams will win. The referee asks the audience for the ideas and the improvers put on the show.
