Updating my review to add commentary about the catering for a party. It was an absolute crowd pleaser! I ordered ribs, brisket, chicken, potato salad, beans, Cole slaw, garden salad, and garlic bread. The favorite was the brisket but they truly loved every bit of it. Very impressed with the packaging and presentation. They were packing it up as I arrived and everything was hot and fresh. The staff were delightful and even helped load everything into my car. The portions were very generous and I felt a good value for the money. We were all very full and happy. Received many comments about how good it was. I will tell anyone looking to cater or serve a crowd to order BBQ Pit. Alright, so I had been looking around for some BBQ spots and decided on this place. I came in at 11am when lunch is starting to be served. The inside has that BBQ joint feel to it and they do have merch on the wall for sale. The guy taking orders is friendly and got me situated pretty quick. The place was almost empty when I got there, maybe about 5 other guests so it's not packed, but it still took a good 15-20 minutes to get my food. I ordered the 3 meat combo with brisket, burnt ends, and pulled pork with Mac & Cheese and potato salad as my sides. Here's my take: Brisket: Meat is moist and soft but definitely needs a lot more seasoning. Could use another piece piece of brisket since I got less than a full slice that was cut in half... Burnt ends: Decent flavor, but the inside for me was very dry, some pieces were tough to chew. Portions were decent. Pulled pork: Also needs more seasoning and was a tad bit dry, but the portion was also decent. Mac & Cheese: it was okay, nothing to brag about. It tasted like Mac that was tossed in canned cheese sauce. Potato Salad: It's okay...not great, tastes like it could be store bought. Overall it wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't great either. I had to douse the meats with BBQ sauce just to get some kind of flavor. Not sure if I came in too early or if it was just an off day. Great lunch that we took to go. We tried a little of everything - brisket, tri tip, shredded chicken, hot links and a variety of sides. Meats were good, but I wasn't thrilled with the cornbread. I'm pthe type of person that may try one item before making a commitment to a new place to dine so I ordered the LOAF of cornbread only to go. The loaf was actually slices and it tasted awful. It tasted like they grilled it together with the meat grease. I want my food to taste like it's supposed to be. Cornbread sb cornbread! I'm not a vegetarian, but if i was , i would not expect the taste of meat on my bread! It was dry and we tried to warm in air fryer the next day and still could not get over how bad it tasted. I came here with some friends and overall had a pretty good experience. The food came out really fast, which was a plus since we were all super hungry. We ordered the 4 meat combo with brisket, pork ribs, tri-tip, and shredded pork. My personal favorites were definitely the brisket and tri-tip, they had the best flavor in my opinion. I liked the seasoning on the brisket a lot. I was a little disappointed that they were out of burnt ends. One downside was that when the meat came out, it wasn't hot or even warm, it was more like room temperature, which took away from the experience a bit. I also noticed my pork rib pieces were a lot smaller compared to what my friends got. For sides, we had coleslaw, fries, and potato salad. The coleslaw tasted fresh, and the potato salad was really good. The fries were decent, but also came out kind of room temperature. Everything also came with vinegar onions, cucumbers, and jalapeños, which I liked, it added a nice touch. At the end, I noticed that our friend's platter came with a piece of chocolate. We have been wanting to give this place a try and finally made it. Walked in and the tables and layout is the same as the previous Burger Pitt but they do have counter seating. Walk up to order your food and drinks, grab a number and head to your table. There are a lot of choices for various canned specialty beers and some on tap options. My husband and I decided to go with the three-meat combo. We did one plate with Pork Ribs, Brisket, Burnt Ends with Potato Salad, baked beans and garlic bread. The other plate was Pulled Pork, Pork Ribs, brisket with Mac and Cheese, Potato Salad and Garlic Bread. We also ordered a side garden salad. Guilty of hoping it would come out before the meal, but that was my error for not asking. For drinks we chose a beer on tap and a fountain soda. Heads up the soda is not Pepsi or Coke products, but I believe its call Stubborn Soda. The root beer flavor is okay, but I would skip the soda. The BBQ came out and I was impressed with the amount of meats on the plate. The cornbread that came with the salad is not really corn bread but more of a fried cake taste. I was disappointed as I love corn bread, but the previous yelp reviews were right, skip it. The burnt ends and pork ribs were not horrible but not great, so if you're going, I would give those a try. The pulled pork was very dry, and we were not fans of the brisket contrary to other reviews. Unfortunately, there wasn't a side that we enjoyed. The mac and cheese was very bland (not sure how you do that) and we do not recommend. The potato salad was also bland, and I am not quite sure why the coloring was pinkish but perhaps they were trying to add something to make it unique? Baked beans were very bland. The garlic toast was yummy. When my husband went to grab some BBQ sauce he saw some bottles of BBQ sauce, we were hoping it would be homemade sauce and not store bought. Recently tried the BBQ Pit with two friends and overall enjoyed the experience. We got there around 6:30 PM and went straight to the counter upon entering. It's a casual order at the counter type of spot. I got a BBQ meal - they were already out of burnt ends around 6:30 unfortunately! But the friendly cashier recommended I get brisket instead so that's what I did The brisket turned out to be delicious and the delicious BBQ smokiness was paired well with their sauce which was the perfect amount of savory sweetness. For my sides I got mac n cheese and potato salad which were both pretty good. The dressing on the potato salad had a different flavor than I typically see in potato salad, and it was good. My friends ordered a sandwich and a baked potato and both seemed to enjoy their food, with both getting a good amount of meat in their items. We really loved the Burger Pit, nostalgia wise, and food it was great. BUT We also love South Winchester Barbeque, so we were beyond happy to find that SWBBQ bought the Burger Pit location and turned into another great restaurant! They've kept so much of the original decor intact, that you still get that mid century modern grill feel. They even kept the feel of the sign art, even though our wonderful HIstory San Jose got the original Burger Pit Sign for the neon preservation project. The service was friendly and the food was PERFECT. The ribs were so tender, the meat just about slid off the bone and melted in my mouth. Also the Tri-Tip, as always from the SWBBQ family, is the best in the south bay. All in all, this was the best possible outcome for this treasured location, could not have asked for a better fit to take over the spot. And it's nice to have this same great food, a little closer to our house. read more

The three of us met up for a reunion barbecued lunch on St. Patrick's Day, we had not seen each other since last September. She ordered the St. Patrick's Day corned beef sandwich with potato salad and baked beans with meat. She enjoyed it very much, and shared a bite of the corned beef with me. She had got off her work shift and showed us that she had walked 8 miles during the day at work, she was bushwhacked, so the beer was nice and comforting. All in all, the Barbeque Pit is a great place to have a delicious barbecue with your friends or family. I bought myself a nice souvenir, the restaurant sells t-shirts, hats, drink containers and memorabilia for the Barbeque Pit. I ordered a St. Patrick 's Day large corned beef sandwich, cut into two portions and separately wrapped, with beans and mac and cheese to go, because my 90 year old mom wasn't up to coming out of the house to dine out today. There are some goods and some bads and that is what is expected for Bay Area BBQ Brisket: Easiest gauge of any BBQ spots prowess - in our 2 meat combo the brisket was nice, fatty & tender. Slightly overcooked but still tasted good. We ordered a separate 1/2 lb of brisket and this felt like all end pieces, overly salty and tough to eat. Tri-tip: Less tender than the brisket, not as salty though so tasted better overall Burnt ends: The sauce on the burnt ends was overpowering - a thick, sweet sauce masking tough chunks of meat. Would not buy again Sides: Fries + mac n cheese were great, we enjoyed those. Checked The Barbeque Pit, located in same building as the old Burger Pit. The restaurant looked great and very clean. Love that they have a lot of outside eating areas. Inside they have big screen TV's to watch a game. The service was excellent. We had a few questions and they answered with a smile. We got the 3pc combo and favorite thing was the Brisket by far. The chicken was good, but I thought the Tri-tip was average. As for the sides, the baked potato was very good, but sadly the Mac & Cheese and the Coleslaw were subpar. I frequent their other locations (santa cruz, gilroy) and was super disappointed at this location. First off, the bbq chicken sandwich we ordered had two pieces of chicken bones in it. They need to be a bit more careful when deboning the left over chicken! I cannot imagine a small child eating that sandwich! I chose chicken and brisket for my 2 meat plate. The chicken was pretty small as you can see next to the mint they give you. Almost as if they cut off half of the breast for other things. I forgot to take a picture of my baked potato. Upon arrival, I noted that this restaurant has received a full remodel and everything was really clean, including the restrooms. It is a self serve where you order and pay upfront. I was really impressed by the cashier behind the counter who answered my questions and was very polite and friendly. I noted the BBQ cooker was outside behind the building. During the hours of 7 AM-11 AM they focus on cooking the BBQ meats.. Therefore, there is a limited breakfast menu. I had the breakfast taco, which was outstanding. Brisquit, egg, BBQ sauce on a tortilla-excellent! A few days later, around 2 PM, I went back with my wife and had pork ribs, brisquit, coleslaw, Mac & cheese, corn bread, garlic bread, and potatoes salad. Everything was spectacular and cooked in house! The ribs were tender and the brisquit was great, although a bit heavy on salt and pepper-still great tasting though. The Stubborn draft soda machine was really a nice change. The restaurant is always busy, based on how many customers I've seen. Everything you order is from the menu (no specials). We really like authentic BBQ. The juicy smoked meats, the enticing aromas, the various sides... Today my husband & I tried the newish BBQ Pit (where The Burger Pit used to be on Blossom Hill). I had a Pulled Pork sandwich, my husband had the Brisket sandwich. Both sizable, hefty. First of all, my sandwich looked great, but with very little smoke aroma, which did not bode well...very little smoke flavor. I would characterize the dominant taste as SALT, not smoke! Also, I was very thirsty after dinner. Second, there was no BBQ sauce anywhere...? Just a weird liquid-y Very Spicy brown Hot Sauce. Not requested or explained. (Small container in photos) whew, SPICY! Thirdly, we could not distinguish his Brisket from my Pulled Pork. Curious! They flavor was so alike, it was very disappointing, we agreed. Pork is pork. Beef is beef. The Potato Salad was very tasty, the Sandwich rolls were awesome, all toasty on the inside. I finished my sandwich because I was beyond hungry. But was it good enough to entice me back? Came on a Sunday evening for dinner with a group of friends. When you first get inside, you order at the front and then find seating. It wasn't too busy when we went, as there was still seating available. There was regular tables, as well as booths and outdoor seating. We had a bigger group and were able to push two tables together. Since this is a restaurant that's located in a plaza, parking was plentiful. You have the options of regular and large, and you could pick based on how many types of meat you wanted. The combo meals also came with 2 sides and 1 type of bread (corn bread or garlic bread). There are also sandwich options. I got the regular brisket meal with mac n cheese, a baked potato ($3 extra) and garlic bread. I was honestly shocked when the meal came out because the baked potato was comically large. It took up 1/3 of the tray. The brisket was juicy and tender. I tried a piece of the tri-tip, and thought it was a little tough in comparison to the brisket. Also, between the garlic bread and the cornbread, the garlic bread was better (as suggested by the staff as well). Definitely would come back here if I'm in the area. read more

The space has been redecorated, modernized, and the salad bar is gone but the new joint is looking like a worthy replacement. I ordered the "Barbecue Mac" with slices of Tri-tip over creamy Mac and cheese. My date (ok, wife!) had the Tri-tip sandwich; both very good. I found the normal sauce too smoky but enjoyed the spicy version. (Don't let the name fool you, it may be mid-west spicy but it's California mild). The staff at the bar and register were helpful and attentive. There's a nice selection of local micro brews on tap so there's plenty of attractive beverages available. So why call it Barbecue Mount? When I was much younger calling something "the pits" was not a compliment and this welcome addition to the neighborhood deserves some high compliments. read more
