Andrew cleared my clogged sewer line of roots and then ran a camera to make sure it was clear, which I got to see. That is the first time I have seen a plumber take that extra step, which I really appreciated. My old house does not have a clean-out, so Andrew had to remove toilet and run the rooter from inside the house. Andrew was very careful not to damage anything in the bathroom and cleaned up everything when finished. He also used an extra thick wax bead to ensure a good toilet seal. We had just moved to our new place and the sewer lines kept backing up. We called Andrew at Comet who came with recommendations from multiple neighbors. He and his team were caring, meticulous, trustworthy and very professional. They ended up fixing the pipes on the property and putting in a new clean-out with all the permits. Then we found out that there was collapsed pipes beyond our property line into the middle of the street. He got in touch with the city immediately and got them involved to fix their end of the issue which was very helpful, because some cities put the burden on the homeowner to fix that. I had a very major clog in our house caused by roots in the main line in front of the house. Andrew reached out within an hour of me filing a request on Yelp and came by to look at the issue shortly after. He used a camera to diagnose the issue, and we created a plan for installing a two-way cleanout and doing a trenchless replacement of the line in front of the house. Since I can't review each time Andrew and Comet have saved our bacon, I'll just list the jobs here: May 12, 2012 - My wife and 4 year-old daughter were alone when our ancient water heater rusted out and flooded the garage. She found Comet on Google. Over the phone, Comet helped her shut off the water to stop the flooding. Andrew arrived within the hour, showed us the cause of the problem, quoted the job, and purchased a new water heater that met our needs. He did extensive work to not only install the new water heater, but also to bring the entire installation, plumbing, and ventilation up to code. All was resolved, and bath time occurred right on schedule that night. August 13 - At my request, Andrew inspected the 20 year-old water heater in the condo we own. The same kind of flooding there would have been catastrophic, and Andrew pointed out the telltale signs that this appliance was indeed on borrowed time. I arranged to have Comet come in the next day when I had scheduled the delivery of a new dishwasher, as well as another handyman to do some unrelated projects. Andrew took great care in the installation of the new heater which was on the second floor of the condo. He was careful to stay out of the way of the other technicians while he installed everything to code and was meticulous with every step. I appreciated the time he took to communicate the rationale for each step he took. Later that week, we had a kitchen clog that was bad enough that I couldn't resolve it with chemicals or a snake. Andrew came by on his way home from a big job and used a high-pressure jet tool to flush out the clog, which it turns out was pretty extensive. This morning, I asked Andrew to come over to replace our derelict garbage disposal. He came over immediately and just happened to have a replacement unit on hand. He made our home safer and pointed out where we could improve the wiring under the sink. He also installed a water line for our ice maker that we'd been wanting to put in but had been procrastinating for fear of messing it up. The ice maker's doing it's thing as I'm finishing up this review. Can't wait to use it. A good plumber is someone you count on to get you through difficult times, and sometimes to make things just a little nicer at home. We're grateful and have real peace of mind with Comet. I really hope that my review doesn't get filtered out just because Comet doesn't pay for a premium listing here. Believe me, I wish I could give them zero stars. The guy (Andrew) came out to unclog my drain and not only FAILED to do so, but gave me a leak in the process! Started out by placing a 5 gallon bucket under the two sinks that were filled with water. I told him there's no way that's only 5 gallons in there. So I end up using one of my pots to scoop water out of sinks and into his bucket. 3 buckets later he starts 'working' on the clog. He left me with a leaking pipe stating that the last plumber did it. How's that when those pipes aren't even a year old and was not leaking until he touched it! He couldn't even fix the leak and left telling me to call a plumber! All told, he was here for about an hour and a half. I then called $15 Sewer and Drain and they were in and out in 15 minutes and fixed the leak he created. read more

Andy replaced a cast iron sink with a stainless steel one, installed a pressure regulator valve, and installed an expansion tank (two plumbers, about 5 hours of work). In addition, he fixed a leak and went into the crawl space to inspect for other issues. The plumbing was old and it ended up being a much larger job than expected. Andy worked through all of the additional issues without adding any charges. His website self-describes him as hard working and honest -- both of which I found to be true. My husband and I woke up Xmas Eve to a wonderful gift from our house: a broken water heater with NO hot water. Since we were hosting our family Xmas dinner, this was quite the curve ball in our plans. After basic troubleshooting, we realized the 28-year old water heater had finally croaked. We called several plumbers only to find voicemails. Just when we were getting disheartened and brainstorming back-up plans, Andy called back. Yes! He came for the house call and evaluated our situation. He agreed with our assessment, and that we needed a new water heater. He wasn't planning on working today, but seeing our dead water heater, he decided to come and help us. Seriously, how many plumbers would do that on Xmas Eve?!? Thank you, Andy!!! We decided, to respect his time since he was suddenly working on Xmas Eve, he would take a couple other house calls while my husband and I went to buy the water heater. When he returned, he spent 4 hours removing our dead water heater and installing our new heater. Andy is incredibly detail oriented. He pointed out several ways in which our old water heater (installed several owners ago!) was not up to code, from non-functional earthquake straps to unsoldered copper pipes! (Yikes!) The new copper pipes he soldered was routed like a pro (I'm an engineer, and it was exactly how I would have wanted it! Keep in mind, I did NOT direct/ask for the routing, he just did it like a boss!). There was a minor mishap, which is why it's a 4-star rating instead of 5-star, but I won't go into it, because his overall work quality is spot on. Plus, we're all human, so we all make mistakes. I tried to offer him food/drink along the way to express my gratitude for his work, but all he would take was one Coke Zero and a hot coffee. I have used Comet Plumbing for my last two plumbing jobs. On each occasion it was an emergency. The first emergency we had was on the evening of valentines day, the night before we were leaving for a weekend without the kids. I called at least five plumbers. All promised to be there in under an hour; by the time I gave up on them and called Comet, it was after 11. Andrew came promptly, worked quickly, and didn't gouge me with after hours fees. Then this past weekend after a big party, the pipes backed up. I called Andrew right away, on Sunday after 6 pm. Had a backup on main sewage line while having a party on a weekend. Andrew came out to do a routine cleanout but my sewage line was damaged and had a severe discontinuity. Nothing I didn't already know. I've had at least one backup and cleanout every year. Each and everytime, a plumber shows me the tape. It had progressively gotten worse. Yesterday - Friday night just got back from work stressed and I really wanted to chill out so I just went on WoW and downed a few beers + some shots with the online crew. During this time I went to the restroom and in my drunken stupor I must've done something stupid like flushed paper napkins or gift wrap or old google map printouts down the toilet. I flushed stuff but it came back up ick. I passed out in front of my comp thinking I'll get it checked tommorow but woke up a few hours later around 12:30am cause I realized my roommate was coming back tommorow morning - (#$*%(*$!. I needed to get my toilet fixed fast since this isn't the first time I've messed with the place and he's prolly gonna get REAL mad (possibly 'find a new roommate' mad o.O). I tried plunging it myself thinking I was a real man but I'm no plumber - some stuff came out but still the same issue :-(. To make a long story short I pissed and moaned to everyone on my instant messenger list until someone recommended I try a place called Comet. She said they do emergency jobs. I was thinking this crap (pun intended) was probably gonna cost me an arm and a leg but I really don't want my roommate knowing I messed up again so I went ahead and gave them a call. Good god it was like 1am but someone actually answered(!) and they were courteous and assured me someone would be on their way. Eventually Andrew came and worked on it for a bit before saying all done! THE BOWL WAS WORKING AGAIN! From the time they came in at the middle of the night to when they left was about 2 and a half hours. And get this - this is why I'm writing the review.
