This hotel was clean, front desk staff friendly and the staff in the breakfast area were excellent. The room was clean and comfortable. We booked and paid via Priceline, experienced no issues there. The 2-star demerit is due to the signs on the "public" bathrooms stating that they are for employee use only. These are located right near the pool and the fitness center. This must be against ADA regulations. Also, when we checked in around 10pm the elevator floor had a large puddle of water. From the chlorine smell let's assume it came from the pool 10' away. Let's also assume that someone had to take the elevator upstairs to use the bathroom in their room. This seems like far more trouble than it might be worth to the apparently highly vaunted employees. Should a slip and fall occur in the elevator the owner of this property would likely be very upset... Would a swimmer just use the pool rather than go their room? I'll never know because I won't swim in this pool. read more

Every year I go to Dover to participate in the Amish Country Century, a 100 mile bike ride. This was my first time in this hotel and my last time. The front desk staff leaves a lot to be desired. I was so turned off by the employee who checked me in. He was on the phone when I arrived but did not acknowledge me. Then he took another call (hotel calls not personal) and still did not acknowledge me. When he finished I said I was checking in. He just stated, "Name and ID". This was how the rest of the check in went - him never actually looking at me and just saying what he had to say: Follow the prompts. Elevators to the left. Breakfast at 7. If mgt. is reading this, it was a black guy, maybe early 30s, with an earring. I brought my stuff up to my room and came right down to go to dinner. A friend who was staying at Sleep Suites (my friends highly recommended this hotel which is where I'll go next year) had helped me carry stuff up. Once back down he was going to use the bathroom and there were signs printed out that said they were for employees only! WTH?! When I came back from dinner there was a different employee. I asked about ice machine. She was very unprofessional looking and another one who didn't even crack a smile. In my room: handle fell off toilet when I flushed. TV worked but it was nearly impossible to push buttons on remote so it took awhile for TV to turn on and then I couldn't change the channel. I just gave up. No full length mirror. Coffee machine needed a better cleaning - residue in it. The positives were room was clean, quiet, and bed and pillows were comfortable. Checking out I dropped key cards on counter and a different staff member was there. No smile, just stared at me. Then I heard her call out THANK YOUUU. I've stayed at Comfort Inns before but I would never stay at this one again. read more

The staff was so great from check in, to leaving. The pool attendant was so nice and sweet, the front desk clerk was very sweet and quick (mscott). The breakfast attendants were nice and fast at refilling the stations. And the rooms were comfortable and roomy. And we were able to just swim alone with our group. The only downside is that the pool was locked and you had to get someone to open it, then you could only swim for an hour. It was understandable and we could come back in a hour (we didnt) but it was the only downside. read more

If I could give this hotel 0 stars I would. I arrived with my wife and 4 children at 11:30pm enroute to Ocean City, MD for a family vacation. I was fine that we all had to share a bed but when we arrived we realized that the sleeper sofa was only a full size bed, much too small for two people. No problem I thought, one of the kids can lay out the couch cushions and sleep on the floor. I went down to the lobby where the employee stated she could not give me an extra blanket..."it's our policy". I couldn't believe it, so I insisted she call the manager to allow us to get another blanket. She couldn't understand why I was so upset. The fact that she had to call her manager to give one of their customers an extra blanket is horrible. Let alone this place is a pit...I travel for a living and I would never recommend this place. We were in town because of a family loss. The staff were quite kind and accommodating. The front lobby is quite homey, but the front desk staff were frequently away from the front desk, as just the right times (when I was attempting to ask a question). There are snack machines in the hallway with quite a bit of options, but they were costly. They work in a pinch - despite the hotel being in a great location, with everything within mere steps away, the road itself is pretty dangerous, so you will need to get in the car to go anywhere. The hotel staff also alluded to the area being a higher crime area, but I never didn't feel safe. The room was clean and comfortable. We're early risers and enjoy our coffee first thing. The included breakfast wasn't ready at the time promised, but the wonderful staff person was working alone, so we were patient and it was worth the wait. There are plenty of options to choose from, for a variety of dietary needs and the coffee was GOOD, the conversation was better. I recommend this hotel for a clean, decent place to stay, right on the main highway. read more

Not bad, but not the best. I booked this room for my mom based on the great reviews on bookings.com, but I guess some people have low standards. The room was very dated, stained walls and chair, worn out night stand, curtains could be replaced, lamp shades were beat up and the bathroom toilet could use better cleaning. The best part was the bed, AC, fridge and microwave. Front desk staff during check-in was nice, but as the days went on... not very pleasant. It was as if saying 'Good Morning' to us was a chore. Don't waste your money! The staff was rude. The room was disgusting. The fridge didn't shut unless you kicked it shut. The fridge also had trash in it from previous guests. The bed had multiple holes in the headboard. The bathroom door was falling apart. When we sat on the toilet, it shifted and almost made us fall off. The tub was grimy and disgusting. The pillows were absolutely awful. The lighting was absolute crap! I'm glad I brought my own pillow and blanket. I was terrified to see what the bedding looked like so I used my personal items. I know there aren't a plethora of places to stay in Dover, DE, but you'd be better off finding a bridge somewhere to sleep under. The guy yelling at rocks and drinking his own urine may be more polite than the staff at Comfort Inn Dover. I got into Dover at about 2 AM and had to be up at about 7 AM the next morning for a meeting. Needless to say, I've had easier times responding to my alarm clock. Staying at the Comfort Inn, first thing I did out of the shower was call the front desk to have my dry cleaning picked up. The conversation went something like this: "Can I please have my dry cleaning picked up?" "Okay," said the lady in a tone indicating she'd rather be having her fingernails ripped off with pliers than be answering this call. "So, do I leave my..." (Click) She hung up on me. So it was not entirely unexpected when I came back to my room later that day to find my dry cleaning still sitting by the door. I have three more days of the conference to attend and my clothes are balled up in a plastic bag marked "dry cleaning". I took said bag to the front desk and asked how to have these dry cleaned. "Oh, I don't know if we do dry cleaning here," said yet another helpful lady at the front desk, not acknowledging the "dry cleaning services" i demonstrated from the Comfort Inn binder in my room. Stay here, but first check if there are any vacancies with Dover Downs, the Marriott, La Quinta, Air BnB, Motel 8, someone's minivan, a shaded tree, and the bridge people. read more

When your kid's team travels to middle-of-no-where Delaware for tournaments, You either pay $400 a night for a clean hotel, or you cross your fingers and hope you get the decent room at the underwhelming bit over priced hotel. Our luck was not with us this time. The comfort inn and suites in Dover needs a major overhaul. Starting from the time you step into the lobby with its cheap decor, to walking down the hallways to your room and seeing all of the patched up, scuffed up door exteriors. When we walked into our hotel room, we were met with a overwhelming sweet perfume smell. Not a cleaning solution smell--no, it was leftover from the cleaning service's perfume. Our kid walked into the bathroom to get a shower and called me in--the floor had what looked like shoe prints all over it. When the shower started to leak out onto the floor and I used towels to wipe up the water, they turned black from the grime on the floor. As I inspected the beddings, because at this point I was skeptical, there seemed to be eyelashes on the sheets and pillowcases. Two of the pillowcases on one of our beds were stained. Spend the extra money and choose a different hotel if you're stuck staying in the Dover area. read more

Hotel seems to be in good condition. Hotel staff was very nice and professional. Room was clean. The mattress was comfortable but soft. The bathroom was small but there was sufficient counter space. This hotel is deplorable and dirty! We booked two nights; upon entering the room and uncovering the blanket on one of the beds there was dirt and footprints all over the sheets. We were moved to another room on an upper floor. The next day we asked the housekeeper to change the sheets due to a nosebleed that occurred. The housekeeper said they only change sheets every THREE days. This makes sense why our first room had soiled sheets. They don't change sheets even if a new guest is arriving unless it's within the three day timeframe. Upon returning to our room later that evening we could not enter the room, twice we had to report to the front desk for assistance and the desk clerk had to come up to use the master key to open the door. Once we entered the room and went to use the bathroom, to our surprise hanging neatly were black and yellow soiled washcloths and towels. Was this a prank on us for asking to change the sheets or is this the standard practice for this hotel? Nick the hotel manager comped us one night stay but as we were driving home, we received a call from this petty establishment asking us how to treat the mattress because it was wet. very disappointed. Dated yellow stained walls, even the phone was yellow stained. The air conditioner in the room was extremely loud and furniture in the room was stained... I was extremely upset with this hotel considering the price I paid. We stopped here the night of Easter Sunday for a quick night's stay before traveling to VA. I chose this hotel based on its reviews. Maybe the hotels in Dover are particularly bad, because the reviews for this hotel are pretty great.....but for us it was really very average. It definitely served its purpose. We arrived late (9:45) and went right to our room. The room was nicely decorated and the biggest thing I do first now at any hotel (sadly) is check for bedbugs. The beds were generally clean but on the pull out couch we did find two bugs that looked suspicious. They were dead, but a very similar shape and color to bedbugs. Since we found absolutely no other evidence of bedbugs (I've done my homework) we had to HOPE that they were not. So assuming they weren't (we've had no problems now that we're back), the bottom line is that we still found two small dead insects in the bedding of the couch! So we weren't off to a stress-free start, but it was only for a few hours. Next thing we noticed was the doors were filthy. I mean, really gross. I'm not a neat-freak...and expect some scuffing or residual marks from suitcases/kids/etc....but the doors were gross. They had fingerprints, smudges and dried on who-knows-what on them. There were two doors inside the room (bathroom and back bedroom) and they were both dirty. The bathroom had hairs on the floor (automatic ick-factor in my book) and even the walls had hair on them. To me, this means they use the same rag on the floors/sink/counters (where hair may fall) on the walls and fixtures when they clean them. The little packets of toiletries to use had soap bubble residue on them and were sticky when we picked them up. Again, I'm no dummy and I'm sure that cleaning a million rooms every day can make a person cut corners...but overall, it just didn't feel as clean as I thought it would be. Thankfully, the room smelled clean and we had no other cleaning issues. The mini fridge made a loud clicking noise intermittently for an hour or so while trying to sleep, until we just unplugged it. Our room was near the elevator (about 3 doors down) and you could hear it all night through the door. Are these deal-breakers? No. We'd stay again if we were passing through....but it was just a very average hotel stay. We didn't get to experience much else from the hotel since we left early the next morning. Their breakfast was your typical hotel breakfast and was nice enough and plentiful enough to get us through lunchtime. Things were restocked nicely and everyone enjoyed their choices. The few employees we dealt with were friendly. The price was very reasonable and it's not a bad choice in the area, they just need to up the housekeeping a bit! read more

I stayed here over FireFly weekend when the hotel was sold out, crowds are massive and there is every opportunity for a screw up. This hotel was great. The rooms were very comfortable, our housekeeper Marie was great, the front desk people always had a smile and were helpful, and the complementary breakfast was sooo much better then the average carb fest normally offered. I have a completely different opinion about this Hotel than the other 2 reviewers (perhaps the Hotel cleaned up their act a bit in the housekeeping department because of the poor 2013 review, or maybe that reviewer unfortunately just had a bad housekeeper. Not all housekeepers clean the same!) Overall, it got great reviews on TripAdvisor, which is why we chose to stay here. First off, we travel ALOT (Husband, 10 yr old Daughter, myself) throughout the year. Lots of weekend/overnight mini trips. Therefore, we stay at LOTS of different hotels. I am very OCD about room cleanliness....and I also check for evidence of bedbugs. This hotel exceeded all my cleanliness standards, and then some. The Lobby, upon entering, was decorated beautifully for the holidays and spotless as well. The desk person was extremely pleasant. When we got off the elevator to the 3rd floor, the hallway smelled nicely of cinnamon. Our room was almost spotless. Clean sheets, clean bathroom. Room smelled very clean. We asked for extra towels, and got them (plus they threw in a few extra shampoo/conditioners.) We spent 2 nights here, and saw NO evidence of bed bugs (either dead or alive.) Bedbug problems are why we always check Tripadvisor first prior to staying anywhere (my mother battled a bedbug nightmare for 2 months, and I never want to deal with that myself!) So I can say with certainty that the room we stayed in (327) is bug free. I wish I can say that most Hotels are as clean as this one...but sadly, they're not. I should also mention that my Daughter used the pool twice (again, pool area very clean.) Impressed as well. We had breakfast on our last morning prior to check out, and they had a large variety of good breakfast foods to choose from. The coffee was perfect, too. Overall, we were very impressed with this Hotel, and I'd give it 6 stars if possible. We'd definitely stay here again!! read more
