The hotel is a bit dated but the safe was friendly and accommodating. I rented a suit and slept on the sleeper bed. The head of the bed was broken and had to place the somerset cushions behind the head of the bed. A previous guest should have just reported it. The other individual on the trip with me had a very clean room as well but the fridge was very outdated in their room and it had mold. This was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. I was quoted the same price twice for an additional night, but when I went to actually book it, the price was suddenly changed without explanation. When I asked the general manager, Michael Clegg, why I was told the wrong price, he became defensive and implied I needed to leave then told me he was calling the police on me just for asking questions. Shortly after, he came to my room, knocked, and told me I had to leave immediately, saying the police were already on their way. I hadn't raised my voice or caused any trouble I was simply trying to understand the price change. I left before my check-out time because I refuse to spend my money at a place where I'm not welcomed or respected. When the police arrived, the manager changed his story completely, claiming he just wanted to talk and falsely accused me of yelling downstairs -- which never happened. Thankfully, I have a photo of him and his name: Michael Clegg. Avoid this hotel. Stayed here for three nights during COVID. While yes, we would have liked some kind of local meal voucher or something to compensate for the lack of amenities during this time (no gym, pool or free breakfast), we were told their prices have been decreased, so who knows. I enjoyed the King Suite (room 403) because it was kind of like paying for two rooms for the price of one. The pullout couch mattress was terrible, but I've slept on many and they're all like that. No problems with the fridge, microwave, two TVs, AC units. One small thing, the shower curtain keeps drifting open no matter how many times you try to slide it closed and the floor gets all wet. Quite clean, unscuffed, staff are warm and professional. Breakfast is all you could want in a nicely designed area.

This experience was wonderful. I have higher expectations, and they were met. They accomodated every whim with a smile. For the price, you can't beat it. The bathroom is laughably tiny, and we hated the way the ac unit was directed at the bed, but overall those things are expected at this price level. We usually try to get a luxe hotel, but a pool is a requirement so choice is more limited. We've stayed in everything from a 4-star to a 2-star, and found this to be a good hotel at a bargain. The reviews had me petrified, but I saw no bugs, no major flaws, or cosmetic damage. Staff was great. They handled each request promptly and kindly. The bed was off its rail and the towels were all taken by the pool. Both issues were handled while I soaked my sore muscles in the hot tub. The pool was so warm that the children in it were wishing it was colder, but it felt nice to me in the pm air. I had it all to myself until closing. This place definitely knows how to put the "comfort" in Comfort Inn. My stay was brief, but pleasant. I arrived late at night and was able to find plenty of parking right near the entrance. I was here for an event so I was expecting to have to park far given the anticipated crowd, but I was happy to find there that spots were readily available near the front. After I walked in, I was able to grab my key (my parents had already checked in, so I was just required to give my name to gain access to the room) from the staffer at the desk and onto the elevator. The room was spacious enough and clean. There was enough space for all of our things without feeling stuffy. I also liked the ample amount of outlets to charge our devices. The room also has some complimentary coffee and tea with a machine in case you were looking for a late night beverage. I found the bathroom to be great - enough counter space and towels for our stay. The room also had a large closet to house any additional items you would like to out of the way clearing the way for more space, and a refrigerator in case you needed keep any food items cold (I always appreciate a refrigerator in a hotel room :] ) As for the bed, the mattress was firm, which I prefer, and overall I feel like I was able to get a restful night of sleep. Amenities include free continental breakfast in the morning and free wifi to the guests. In addition, there is a business center, and area in the lobby for small groups to hang out. The staff were very pleasant and eager to help with any inquiries. I also appreciated the workers in the morning working the breakfast area, always refilling the stock of product as well as clearing away trash as it piled up. Creates for a relaxing, easy morning before getting the day started. The hotel is in a commercial park next to other hotels, though the full complex is a little secluded so I had to keep my eyes peeled to spot the location (especially while driving at night.) Overall I would stay here again if another reason prompts the need. It's a comfortable experience and that's what you're likely looking for when booking a hotel. read more

The hotel is not very fancy, but it will get you through a 1 or 2 night stay. I came up to do house hunting and stayed here during the snow storm. The staff was great and even called around to all of the delivery places until they found one that was still open. They then started letting the customers know about it. The hotel has a moldy smell the second you walk through the door and the overuse of air freshener in the rooms saturated the sheets, pillows, bedding , towels etc and made for a difficult nights rest. Ok I may be more sensitive to smells and fragrances than others so for me not being able to breathe well all night is a deal breaker. I did open the window thankfully for fresh air and a little relief. The bed was lumpy but the choice of soft and firm pillows were nice even if they were only half pillows in size. The bathroom was small in comparison to the size of the room. Making the reservation was easy and they were pleasant in the phone.. The night manager was brusque and arrogant and that first encounter soured me on the hotel too. The breakfast included sausage and egg with cheese omelets, juices, fruits, cereals, waffles, coffee etc. It was all mediocre. The staff seems to work hard and the facility has wear and tear including the odd sounds in the elevator. There is plenty of parking on sight. read more

I am 100% pleased with my stay here. I was in town for a wedding right down the street, and was only here for a few days. I am not a nitpicker and am usually able to keep my expectations moderate because, well, a hotel is a hotel. I'm just here to sleep. But here are some things I liked: -Tons of parking. -Outdoor Pool, which I planned on using but didn't. It looked very nice though. -Decor of the hotel was not at all '80s' as others have mentioned. I found it to be recently remodeled even. -There was also no odd smells as someone else also mentioned. -Check in was a breeze, the man at the desk was super friendly. I actually rarely encountered staff because I was either not at the hotel or keeping to myself, but when I did, they were always very nice. -The room was a typical hotel room. Desk, armchair, king bed, flat screen. The bed was very comfortable. Complaints: -wifi never worked. It connected but then nothing would work on my phone, nothing would load etc. I was too lazy to call the desk and ask about it but I could see how this would be a problem for others. - the bathroom was small. -half pillows on the bed. (We have a king at home so I'm used to King size pillows) I will most likely never be in this area again, but if I were, I would choose this hotel again in a heartbeat. read more

I have never been so disappointed with a hotel. The hotel seems in dire need of renovations, but that is something I can look past. However, the rooms and facilities were disgusting. I had adjoining rooms, because we were traveling with our sons and wanted them to have their own space. When we checked into the room, the bathroom reeked of stale cigarette smoke. When we complained to the desk, they said there was nothing they could do for us. As the day continued, the cigarette smell continued to get stronger and stronger. We complained again. Again we were told there was nothing they could do. So basically, we either had to find another hotel or live with the smell. It was clear that no one cleans these rooms. My son was playing on the floor, and we found rotting food next to the couch. The floors were dirty and everything was disheveled. The showers were so gross. it looked like they hadn't been cleaned in forever. The worst was the pool deck. There was something rotting there that looked like no one had cleaned it up in days. I also stepped in gum. The hot tub was filled with dead bugs. Looked like no one had skimmed it in days. Overall, this was one of the worst experiences we have ever had in a hotel. We have been staying with Choice hotels for years, and this was unlike the standard experience we have always had. read more

I have stayed in Choice Hotels for over 20 years. I can say, without a doubt, that the experience at The Comfort Inn in Somerset, NJ was the best one yet! The staff was extremely polite and accommodating. The rooms were exceptionally clean and our entire stay was awesome. We often travel to NJ for family events and there is no way that we will stay anywhere else. We didn't come here to live in the hotel, but we did book Comfort Inn b/c we have had good experiences in the past with this chain & needed a place to rest for the night. To start with, we were welcomed by an unfriendly night manager at the desk who wasn't accommodating to our needs. After getting to our room, our card reader didn't work, so couldn't get in the room. (He blamed it on the cards being too close to our cell phones, but this has never been a problem in any other hotels we have stayed in.). During this time, he tried calling us in our room, which we couldn't make it to the phone to answer (he had some issue w/ registering our points...), then chastised us for not answering it after we got back to the desk. After getting the cards reprogrammed we got in the room, our carpet was torn in the middle of the room 210), our closet door was falling off the hinges, the furniture & bathroom vanities were all scratched up, no refrigerator in the room, the mirror outside the bathroom had brackets falling out of the wall, the bathroom was cramped (couldn't find the toilet paper - discovered it hidden under the sink). The next morning, after breakfast, our card readers didn't work well again... THEN the breakfast: very disappointed. No one around to service it (but 3 people showed up right at 9:00 & suddenly things were gone!), the fried eggs were smashed with a yellow dot in the middle, no wholewheat options (everything appeared white), items not intuitively laid out (like margarine - oh wait - no margarine!), the fruit was terrible (soft apple, dry orange, no bananas), the waffle I chose was suppose to be strawberry - but it was the plain waffle mix in the strawberry spigot. So, overall ranting 1/2 star - wouldn't recommend this place. Is it better than living out on the streets? Yes. Is this representative of Comfort Inn? - for the sake of the brand, I hope not! Would recommend a new manager to get this place running better, just a consideration... We are hoping to see better hotels from this chain as we travel to the northeast. Definitely hope they are better than this one, or we'll look at other hotels chains in the future... read more

Am currently staying here for a few days, and I can already tell you that the customer service is absolutely horrid. If I could give this place zero stars, I absolutely would in a heart beat. I was part of a large group of people, many of whom were from China visiting New York City for vacation. Several rooms were booked together. On the second day, returning back to the room at night, I would expect my room to be made up and cleaned, just like any other hotel I've stayed at (and I've stayed at quite a few). Upon entering though, the room was untouched. Sheets still unmade, no towels changed, absolutely nothing was done. I talked to the other members of the group, and their rooms were in the same state. What was going on? Initially and naively, I had thought: could this hotel not provide this service?? WRONG. I talked to several other different guests, not from our group, staying in the rooms near me and they said that their rooms had been made up and cleaned just fine. It appeared that our groups' rooms were the only ones that hadn't been cleaned at all. What. The. Heck? I went down to the front desk to ask why my room hadn't been made up and was told by the haughty staffperson point-blank that: "We don't provide those kind of services here." No explanation, nothing. Are you kidding me?? I've probably stayed at hundreds of hotels at this point in my life and I have never been told that to my face before. I only have one more night here so I didn't want to instigate some sort of fight, knowing that the rest of the likely even-more haughty staff would all try to gang up on me and possibly try to carbon-monoxide poison my room. I swear, I don't think their noses could be held any higher. Or perhaps, and maybe this is a bold statement to make here on Yelp (sarcasm), the people at the front desk and the cleaning people were, I don't know, RACIST? I have no idea, but there is absolutely no reason why our groups' rooms weren't cleaned and the other guests' were. Do not ever try to book a room at this hotel. You will be met with a ridiculously atrocious and highly questionable service. The hotel itself is shoddy as well. I'm going to be issuing a formal complaint after I leave. read more

Definitely will not be coming back here. Wifi kept cutting in and out and someone sneezed on the open cereal at the continental breakfast. Also, BEFORE we were suppose to check out I noticed our keys were inactivated when I tried to go back into the room because I forgot my purse. I was then told I could not enter the room because it was again policy and an employee had to retrieve it. We had yet to check out so I'm confused as to how it was against policy to enter MY room??? I'm sure this hotel is probably comfortable to stay at but they never sent me a confirmation email so when I was actually in NJ on business I could not figure out which hotel I had booked my reservation at! I searched for 30 minutes through emails and tried calling several local hotels before concluding that I must not have booked anything and decided to make another reservation through a different hotel. I now have my credit card statement from that trip and discovered that Comfort Inn charged me for the night. When I called the hotel to air my complaint they were not willing to give me any discount for the night or a credit for a future stay. Note that there are some reviews as well for a Comfort Inn & Suites at 315 Davidson Ave. I believe it's all one property, at #255. There's a very 1988 look to the place, which makes sense given their history of converting from a Hampton Inn. The common areas, though clean, are dark and dated, and the breakfast is the typical cereal and danish, waffle maker stuff (don't think Hampton Inn breakfast here). The room itself, a suite, was a pleasant surprise. There were 2 separate rooms, a decent bed, 2 flat screens, a couch and work area in the living room, and a micro/fridge. I could nitpick (e.g. closet size, nothing brand new, elevator broke the day I checked out), but this is a very good value. I did notice the rates went up a bit during my 10 day stay. I wasn't aware of it until my employer got the bill and asked me. read more

Clean and comfortable room. Convenient to the expressway. The free breakfast was atrocious. Paltry selection, and very little of it. Not once did I see it fully stocked. The breakfast area was under sized, understaffed, and poorly equipped for a hotel of its size. They did not seem to have the capacity to keep replenished what low-quality food they had, although the attendant seemed to be constantly busy. So I suspect that the kitchen equipment was also inadequate. Unfortunately, my company won't reimburse breakfast expenses if the hotel offers free breakfast. So, time to find a different hotel, or a different company. read more
