It seems that many of the hotels in this area relatively old and in need of rehabilitation, including this Courtyard. Though it was updated a few years ago, the underlying issues are obvious and prevalent. It's like painting an old car, the rust spots begin to reappear, and the engine is still old and doesn't run well. There is a newer SpringHill Suites and Fairfield Inn in the area, but I find the SpringHill Suites to have an odd layout, and the Fairfield Inn is Spartan. But, back to the Courtyard. There are a few positives here, they have a beautiful courtyard outside with comfortable furniture and beautiful landscaping. It's adjacent to the hotel café, which is comfortable and attractive, but offers a very limited, and not very tasty menu. The café is open for breakfast. My breakfast sandwich was so poor the first morning, that I ordered a Panera breakfast (about a mile away) every day thereafter. The hotel has ample parking and and a convenient location. The last few times we stayed here, I left a list of three or four maintenance items which needed attention, including a badly leaking sink pipe. This visit, we had four maintenance items (vent cover hanging off wall, broken screen, broken closet door, grout issues in bathroom), which I politely emailed to their General Manager. You'd think a response from one of these instances would have been warranted, but that didn't happen. So this Courtyard is off our list, we'll attempt to find a better venue on our next trip. read more

We had a really nice stay here. Our room was spotless, great TV and very comfy bed. The room also had a nice curved loveseat with ottoman that was appreciated - hate when a hard desk chair is the only option aside from the bed to watch TV and hang out. It was also nice and quiet at bedtime. Most of all, we felt very safe here, which is a priority for me. Front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. We'll be back. read more

This was a fine hotel, very middle of the road but price was decent. You can tell they are trying to step up their game in certain areas like the lobby. Staff was all fantastic, the woman that checked me in was named Cora/Coral (i forget) and was very nice and accommodating. The bed was comfortable enough but it had two of my biggest pet peeves with hotel beds - 1) it sloped downward so the head of the bed seemed lower than the bottom and 2) there was no headboard! It seemed that the rooms recently received a half-assed upgrade - new wallpaper, maybe new carpet, new couch, but all the wood furniture was old and beat up with chunks missing and the bathroom could definitely use some upgrading. My microwave didn't work, there was no hairdryer in my room, and there was mold growing on the shower head. With the exception of the shower head mold, the bathroom and room were clean of any debris/remnants of the last guest. The bathroom was overall very musty smelling though. I would stay here again if in a pinch but likely would try somewhere else, lots of other hotels in the area. read more

First night we checked in got up in the morning a car had been stripped of all four of their tires, it was sitting on a jack and block. There are no cameras on the outside and very few on the inside/ no security! Only one elevator was working. Mattress was very uncomfortable, sunk in the middle - 4 nights on this mattress was not good. Hated to change rooms since we already had our things out! It took a while for the water to run out of the bathroom sink. Ruby Tuesday was Ok but extremely expensive if you're doing room service. Absolute worst experience ever. I was visiting my mother for her retirement party. The hotel shuttle bus employee was not paying any attention and ran into the passenger side of my car. I was poorly treated noone even took the time to make me feel whole. Like they literally gave me a 100.00 credit and thats it. Noone from the onsite team even apologized!. I checked-in after midnight and was happy to see the Courtyard by Marriott after a long busy day.  The hotel is within a business park and suburban community.  You can find office parks and all the fixings of a suburban community within five minutes of the hotel.  I was lucky to be helped by a kind agent who got me the best available room even when capacity was scarce.  The rooms are nice and modern.  The beds are much more comfortable than some of the other Courtyards I have visited. I absolutely loved the large TV because it is smart and I could watch HULU and Netflix. There are even tubs to soak in after a long day.  My room was spacious and clean. There is ample free parking and a gym on-site.  Overall, I am very pleased with this location and will stay here again when in the area. read more

Just spent two days here. The location was perfect. Close to the highways and had plenty of parking. The front desk staff were super helpful and nice. Unfortunately my room was a bit grungy and run down. Dirt in the bathroom, chips in the furniture, and some interesting stains in the carpet. The bistro was not open at anytime. There are some good items for sale next to the front desk. Luckily there's a Ruby Tuesday's attached to this location and a Starbucks less than a mile away. read more

I left a long, negative review on Google Maps, which I will summarize here. I am Deaf. I DO NOT speak well nor do I have the lipreading superpower (this is a myth) and I have made this clear to the ignorant, moronic clerk named Warren Coore who checked me in. He continued speaking, even wearing a mask. I have asked him to write down what he said. He still refused. Either that or he was in one of these ableist panics and just didn't know what the fuck to do even though he DID understand what I asked him to do. He simply did not want to write because he was too lazy. Speaking was easier for him. If I could, I'd give THIS specific Marriott ZERO stars. In fact, this is the worst Marriott hotel I have ever stayed in. Period. And according to the more recent review, another employee is apparently rude. Clearly there's a pattern of bad customer service here. I think this calls for a full-out culling. Get some fresh-faced employees who understand how to accommodate to anyone that comes to the desk. Ya know? Good, old fashioned service. This is a much better (but still negative) review than the Google maps... anyway, yeah, don't stay here unless it's free. read more

I reserved a room at this spot for a weekend trip to NJ, deviating from the original hotel I stay at. The customer service upon arrival was good but that was about it. My room, despite being a non smoking room wreaked of cigarette smoke and I began to become ill. I attempted to move rooms and the shuttle driver was covering the desk and tried to assist. I checked out the rooms offered: one had hair in the bed while the other had a weird smell. I had to suck it up and stay in the smoke filled room. I've checked out early the next morning. The halls also smelled of cannabis. I get the feeling folx don't respect this space. I will never return. I had a big day for Saturday and Friday night did not allow me any rest and made me feel sick the entire day. My clothes, hair, and belongings all smell like cigarettes and I can't get rid of the smell or headache it caused. I do not recommend staying here, even if you can save a buck. They don't care about that property. read more

Courtyards, as I wrote last week, I'm not generally a fan. This location looks very tired from the outside, and worse, it has a Ruby Tuesday next door acting as the hotel restaurant. Not a good first impression. However, parking is aplenty. Then, upon entering, positives abound: =============================== 1) It has the new look Courtyard with a modern and stylish lobby. 2) Service is welcoming and warm. 3) Room was a good size, and very nicely decorated. 4) Bed and Pillows were comfy. 5) HUGE 60" TV in my room, loaded with Netflix that prompted for my sign-on. Love. 6) Property is quiet. The general area is all business, older and aged -- nothing new and nice that I could find. I'd rather stay at Hilton properties in the future, there's an older Doubletree and a newer Homewood Suites nearby. read more

This is a newly renovated Courtyard location, so most of the photos shown on Yelp don't reflect what the hotel currently looks like. The rooms are light and airy with the awesome mural wallpaper behind the bed (which I wish I could buy to put in my bedroom at home!). New furniture looked nice - and I absolutely love how they put the TV on a board with a light behind it. Very sharp looking. The only thing that didn't seem to get renovated was the bathroom - which wasn't bad, but you could tell wasn't new. The only thing that stopped me from giving this a 5 start review was the fact that there was a fire alarm that went off at 2AM that required evacuation of the entire hotel. While i guess it was caused by a guest messing with their smoke detector - which is beyond the hotels' control, i was disappointment with how they handled the emergency - While hundreds of guests were waiting in the parking lot for an update, the hotel staff was nowhere to be found. I would have expect the manager or an employee to make rounds and at least let guests know when it's safe to re-enter. I did contact the hotel about this and was offered a sincere apology by the manager. read more

First time at this location. A little pricey for a Courtyard, but most hotels in this location are not cheap. Easy access to 287 which means getting anywhere is easy. Booked a king room which was clean and hit the mark. Got there earlier than the 4pm checkin and they have me the room early. Unique for this location is the Ruby Tuesday essentially attached to the hotel - you don't need to walk outside. The restaurant also delivers to your hotel room which is a nice touch. So you could hear through the walls. This was bothersome as we wanted to sleep in one of the nights but heard what sounded like slightly loud conversation. Then my son crying was probably heard by other occupants as well. The bathroom in my room was outdated and the tub actually "creaked" which is very unnerving. Then, when I went to ask for clean towels, the towels I received were damp from the dryer. The King size bed didn't quite seem to be "King" either, which was weird. There was a small refrigerator, but no microwave. Lastly, the elevator buttons really had to be pushed to respond. The positives were really nice staff, the size of the TV, comfortable desk chair and good pillows. With that being said, I would not book at this location again. read more

Marriott customer service at its finest! The reason I am a Marriott rewards member and choose to stay at a Marriott whenever possible is because I genuinely feel like an important guest at every one of their affiliated hotels. At this Courtyard I was absolutely blown away. I had driven through the night and realized I wasn't going to reach my destination in time. I thought I would boom a hotel and get a shower and some rest before continuing on my journey. I reserved a room at 8a in the morning anticipating at 3p check in time. I was at a rest stop prepared to sleep in my car when I thought I'd call to see if I could check in a little early. After explaining my situation to the desk clerk I was told I could check in right away! This Courtyard literally saved my day. The room was fresh, the TV allowed me to use my own Netflix account, and I was ready and refreshed for the last leg of my travels. read more

We came to see Jewel in concert at the New Brunswick State Theatre (next to Rutgers University) last Friday. Driving an hour from our location to get to New Jersey after work definitely prompted the need for a place to crash after the concert. And last summer we had stayed at a Courtyard by Marriott in Westchester, NY, so we knew what to expect in terms of hotel amenities. I am glad to report that this is a very consistent and reliable hotel chain. The contemporary decor of the lobby is really inviting, with the cafe and small market and free computer use all clearly and easily accessible upon entry. The seating area is also spacious and though this is not a 4-star hotel, you do get a real sense of comfort and ease as if you were staying at a higher grade hotel. Our room was very clean, and we even had a balcony on the 4th floor. I was surprised there was a microwave as well, which proved to be a real convenience as we had to heat up some sandwiches that we brought with us that night. The only small complaint was the noise from the fridge made it impossible to sleep, so the easy solution was to pull out the power cord, which proved effective. The noise on our floor from other guests was slightly annoying but it didn't disrupt our sleep and wasn't too overwhelming (just some audible pitter-patter). Overall, if you want a clean and contemporary hotel without paying a premium, Couryard by Marriott is a really attractive option. Our 1-night stay was under $100 which was better than some of the other places we looked into before booking here. read more

We stayed here for a night during a business trip, and everything about the stay was great. The hotel is located about a half mile down the road from the highway, so it's in a prime location. There is plenty of parking for the hotel, as well as the Ruby Tuesday's that is attached to the hotel. The lobby area was really modern, with leather furniture and interesting designs. Also, the staff at the front desk was very, very nice. In regards to the room, it was the standard size, with a king size bed, toilet and shower in a separate room, and the sink on the outside next to the closet. I have zero complaints about the room-- it was clean, the linens and towels were all free of hair, and no bugs were detected-- that always calls for a hallelujah! The only call out as a semi-negative was the smell of the room: it smelled musty, but I was able to live with it. I did take a gander downstairs to the "gym" to get a quick workout session in, but my goals were quickly deflated when I saw that all they had was a weight set, flat bench, some treadmills and an elliptical. Waa was waa. The gym may be small, but I was still able to get a basic work out in-- and it's really clean as well! You also have a view of the swimming pool, which I did dip my hand into and it felt like it was heated, aka winning! Also, one absolutely epic thing about this hotel is their breakfast! Wow! It was SO delicious!! They don't offer a continental breakfast, but you can order it from the little coffee shop downstairs. I ordered a Texas toaster with avocado and tomato relish with eggs. It was absolutely heavenly. One of the best breakfasts I have EVER had at a hotel. Overall, I had such a great experience here. The entire process for check-in and check-out was seamless, and if I ever come back to New Jersey, I will certainly look at staying here again! read more

I really want to give this place three stars, but I'm adding one extra due to their efforts to be reasonable. I recently visited this hotel in order to spend time with family members who were staying at the hotel. I had my service animal with me, and another family Reported this to the front desk, and demanded that my animal be removed. I explained to the hotel staff that my dog is a trained service animal, and I have a doctors letter which permits me to have the dog with me in any location. Front desk attendee went to speak with their manager, and during that time the family again complained and said that my service animal should not be allowed in any public location. The hotel employee told me that the policy is that animals cannot be in public places, but should be left in a room. After some conversation , the hotel staff agreed that my service dog could stay , as long as she stayed leashed. This was fine to me, but caused unnecessary stress. The hotel is clean enough and the outside was well-landscaped, but staff could use some training on ADA requirements, apparently. read more

This hotel is right by Ruby Tuesdays. I stayed for two nights. The hotel is clean, spacious, etc. The check in process was quick and painless. During the pandemic, there is a takeaway (grab and go) breakfast in the mornings. I also liked the laundry facility. I would def. stay again at this hotel in the future. I'm really surprised to read all the so-so reviews on here about this Courtyard. This was my fourth or fifth time staying there and probably the best so far. Last time I visited here was in the summer of 2010 and since then, they have renovated the entire lobby and also all the hallways. It looks very modern and chic! The service was great too. Some of the mornings I had called the front desk to ask for extra towels, etc and not even 2 minutes later, they had already sent someone up. I'm a big clean freak so won't stay at a place unless it's super clean. The entire hotel, including our room, was extremely clean. Housekeeping did a great job of tidying up the room and restocking anything that was necessary. It's about a 20-30 minute drive into the city so if you don't mind the commute, this is a great hotel to stay at especially when you get great service and rooms without burning a hole in your wallet. We travel all the way from NC and have stayed here a bunch of times and would stay here again in the future, for sure! read more

First of all, I always don't give one star rating, but this hotel made me so pissed off I'll tell you why. When we came to check in we couldn't enter our room on time they made us wait for more than 20 minutes because they didn't clean the room; moreover, the management treated us very badly. After the waiting they gave us a king bed room but we paid for two queen beds and they refused to change the room we are three people, so one of us was forced to book another room in another hotel because they said they don't have any rooms available. read more

I was in a crunch and needed to book a room on short notice. I also didn't want to spend much because we only really needed to sleep and shower there. The staff was friendly and wound up saving me when I left something behind and they recovered it. The decor isn't bad, it's kind of what I expected. The rooms are large enough, the bathroom could be brighter for sure and a little larger would help. I was happy about the size of the in room fridge. I'be been in more expensive Marriot hotels and the fridge in this location was larger. The pool area was pretty messy. It looked like they recently filled in a hot tub with cement. There was debris on the floor which really isn't cool. I have little kids and I had to make sure they watched where they walked. Someone should be on top of that sort of cleaning, there is no excuse for that. The air intake in that room was also very unclean. I can't imagine the air quality in the pool area is all that great. That room needs attention. Just an FYI about purchasing breakfast as part of your hotel stay. The kids meal ticket gets you a decent breakfast. It was better than the adult breakfast. I was very pleasantly surprised about that. The staff in that area were also friendly enough. Food was decent for a hotel. I'd spend another night or two here, but more than that and I would want a higher level hotel. I got what I paid for so no real complaints other than the pool area. read more

A quiet room, king size bed (and comfortable at that). There is a microwave and refrigerator in the room. Check out at noon. They make you sign something about not having parties, which I thought was a bit lame. There is a Red Robin attached to the hotel. We wanted room service late at night, but it was no longer available. No view out the window, but the only thing around are businesses. Definitely a business hotel. We stayed here when going to a nearby wedding. It worked well, I would stay here again. read more

As a platinum member I have stayed at Marriott's all around the country. This Courtyard hotel generally falls into the "average" category when I consider the others I have stayed in before. What does make this place nice though is the attached Ruby Tuesday restaurant. I would not normally seek out a meal from this chain, but after a hard day's work it's nice to come back to the room, kick back and order room service. But back to the hotel. The parking is more than ample, the downstairs decor has been recently updated, but the rooms certainly can do with a makeover. However, what makes this place exceptional is my experience with the day manager, Mr. Warren Coore. Besides being really friendly and kind, he is also very proactive. This morning, for example, while waiting to order breakfast at the counter, he walked over and greeted me with a warm handshake and big smile and asked when I would be back next. When I told him, he arranged the booking of the room and sent me a confirmation email. But that's not all. Earlier in the week he asked me if I had a specific room preference - not just type but room number. Armed with this information he has made sure that I will get that specific room on my repeat visits. That has never occurred to me before at any other Marriott, and that includes JW Marriott. Every time I walk in (or out) and he is at the front desk he will greet me using my name. Now that has happened only once before when I stayed every week at a Marriott Courtyard in Collegeville, PA - but I stayed there for 18 months so as to forge that close relationship with their staff. But this is only my 6th stay here in Somerset. Well done Marriott HR, you have a gem in your midst. I will certainly be back! read more

Let's start with the good- cheap, lots of parking, and close to my sister. The rooms are a decent size for an affordable price. There is also free wifi. The bad- The rooms smell like smoke. I know I am sensitive to this odor, but I wouldn't stay here again because of it. The colors are dated, and there really isn't much in walking distance. read more

There was hair in the shower upon my arrival and my blanket was dirty. Imagine noticing brown smears on an off white blanket in the middle of a pandemic. Only to then realize that the smears are by the tag on the blanket, which means not only am I sleeping in/on filthy bed covers, but the blanket is upside down. This could mean nothing or it could mean the sheets weren't changed at all. I'm so disgusted. And bc its Covid, I cant get a new full set unless I find someone in the hallway. I can make my own bed but why do I have to also hunt for clean bedding. Repulsed isn't the word. read more

Really nice room staff friendly ruby Tuesday attached to hotel really convenient I would give it 5 stars except for the policy of acting like the airlines no complimentary breakfast they have a mini store by the front desk that "SELLS" personal care items you might have forgotten but the one that really tops it off is the bottle of water they put next to the ice bucket that has a little sign on it that says "please enjoy this bottle of spring water for a fee of $3.50" will probably come back would stay at a Hampton Inn if I had a choice! read more

Not really expecting much, but for $62 a night, I would have accepted anything that didn't have bed bugs. So for that purpose it was perfect. I'm not sure what happened to the Courtyard brand in the past few years, but quality seems to have declined. I know it's geared more towards business travelers, but the bath products and overall decor is subpar. 3 stars for adequate accommodations, but please bring back better quality and comfort. read more

I stayed at this hotel last Thursday night (5-12-16) because it was a short stay and with only having to use 10,000 points it was a good deal. I knew there was no bell service and that is something I have to have because of my bad back. The front desk clerk wasn't overly friendly but was good about finding someone on staff to help me with my bags. I was impressed that this staff member at first declined the tip I wanted to give him. I had asked the clerk (John) at check in if could get the same assistance in the morning and he said it would be no problem. Since I didn't have a car during my stay I was very pleased that they were connected to a Ruby Tuesday. Surprising a great meal for a chain restaurant. After dinner I went up to my room and wanted to watch a bit of TV. For some reason the TV defaulted to some setting that made changing channels to not work properly. I got the on-call Engineer to come up and fix it (he had to use some code that only he had). I had noticed that Bravo was a selection on the TV which was rare and I was really happy about until I found out from same Engineer that I wouldn't be able to access it but that he could try in the morning to fix it. It didn't help because I was checking out. I read a book instead and went to bed. The next morning I asked the front desk clerk a couple of questions and I was quite disappointed in his surly attitude. When I made a joke about it to call his attention to his behavior his response again was very negative and off putting. I had asked if I could get someone to help with my bags. He hesitated until I said the clerk last night said it wouldn't be a problem. I was very clear that I was flexible in terms of the time to just let me know how far in advance I needed to call. This was met with a "smart answer" that was completely uncalled for. This is not the type of individual you want at your front desk. When I checked out the sales manager was helping out and I mentioned my experience with the clerk that morning. She was extremely nice and insisted on putting award points in my account. I said it wasn't necessary but she said she would. Out of curiosity I checked my account today and didn't see anything deposited. She had also insisted that the manager come talk to me. I made it very clear I didn't want to do that as that same front desk clerk was standing nearby. It would have been very uncomfortable. She insisted though and called the manager who was off property so I fortunately avoided that situation. What was disappointing is that this sales manager was extremely nice but didn't listen to what I wanted and had promised something that she didn't deliver. It left me with a more negative view of my experience than I had with just that horrible front desk clerk. This hotel is very reasonably priced but it is a perfect example of you get what you pay for. This property could be an exceptional value with an investment in having a properly trained staff focused on the customer. I will say that the one shining star here was the two ladies that worked the counter/grill for breakfast. The young lady at the register was so accommodating and patient. The cook made my order to my liking and special requests and delivered it to the table. Now that was service. Maybe they can train Marriott's front desk. read more

Very nice hotel and room. Just off of 78, easy to get to and seems pretty safe. Bed and pillows very comfy. If you're a Rewards member you can get a discount also. This is about 35 minutes from Newark airport for an easy commute. Free internet but no free breakfast. Food is available for a price though. Shower pressure was great. read more

We stayed here this weekend for a dance competition. The staff was courteous, friendly and very patient. There were lots of little girls running around and they not once were aggravated. The beds are very comfortable and we enjoyed our sleep in the rooms. There are lots of hotels in the area but I'm glad we chose this one! read more
