We got this hotel for out summer vacation. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights. I did 4 stars because: The Good: Ms. Sheena was carrying that front desk. She was lovely, approachable and very friendly. She was always greeting us with that wonderful smile of hers. Her other coworkers weren't as friendly or wouldn't even look at us at times. I also met this lovely blonde lady that works that evening shift. I regret not asking for her name. Mr. Jeremy was nice too. I thought he was aloof first. But he was friendly after i got to talk to him. Rooms: it was clean, and the beds were comfortable. The kids watched SpongeBob a lot in the tv while we relax in the room so that was very nice. Location: prime location, very good spot. Right in front of the beach which was excellent. Limited parking but we always get good spots. Pool- amazing pool. Very good outdoor pool plus they have outdoor showers which was great! The Bad: The main elevator was broken. One of our sunblocks were stolen from our bag while we were lugging the baggage. Given my husband did leave it out for a bit to lug the other things but come on people why?! Ice machines broke after day 2. But at least the lady bartender gives us ice in cups when when we need them. She was very nice too. Hotel needs updating. Very old it smells a bit not good when you first walk in the hotel. I wish they put some sort of freshener there sort of welcome for the guests. Air conditioning was good but just a tad bit loud. Overall even though many things happened. It did not deter us from having the time of our lives during our vacation. The outerbanks beaches were amazing. Beautiful and so delightfully refreshing to swim at. I did not have photos of our actual room since we were tired and we just wanted to rest right away after bringing our stuff down. Also, Ms. Sheena, i know it was your day off today, but thank you for treating us so well during our stay. I will forever be grateful that you were so very nice to us. read more

We paid about $150/night for two nights for a parking lot balcony room in April. It was a group rate as we looked up the normal rates and the room was about $250/night, mainly because we considered switching to an ocean front balcony but they were almost $350 a night and it just wasn't worth it at this aging hotel. We had a problem with our first room, we got in and it was hot....turned on the AC and tried to take a nap and the temperature never went down. It was 79 degrees in there. I went to the front desk and they gave me the option to move rooms or have maintenance look at it. I chose to move rooms and when we stepped in there was an immediate difference in temperature. The AC worked here and we were able to cool the room to about 70. It's a bit of an odd hotel. You go down a corridor and then take an elevator up one floor to get to another elevator to go to your floor. Beach access is also from this level and it's kind of odd...just a side door. No fancy beach entrance. The pool was closed which was a bummer because we brought swimsuits. There was absolutely no lighting on the walk to the beach or the gazebo outback...they had lights they just didn't work. The outside door lock was also broke, you didn't need a card to get into the hotel which is a bit of a security issue since the room doors stick and need pulled shut (both rooms we had, had this issue...we didn't even realize our room wasn't latched shut until we went to open it). Our shower wouldn't turn off unless you found just the right spot with the lever. Pillows need their own paragraph. I'm not sure what's up with them, there were four per bed. We got a room with two doubles and not two queens so it was really tight to sleep on with another person. But the pillows were half the size of a normal pillow, like they got some discount on tiny pillows. And each pillow had different firmness. It kind of made it hard to sleep. Breakfast was pretty basic. Waffle maker. Cereal. Egg patties, sausage patties, bacon. Bread, bagels, juice machine. Their coffee is from a machine so it's not really that good versus brewed coffee. They had a bar and restaurant that we didn't try. We did get ice and water from the bar since the ice machine on the second and third floor was broken. All of the staff was friendly and did a great job. For the price we paid I'd give this place 2.75 stars. If we paid the real rate it would be about 2 stars at that price...a bit high for what you get. The hotel is very old and a lot of things are out of date but it is clean and at a convenient location. read more

I was impressed with check in & appearance of lobby. The lemon infused water was a huge plus on a hot day. The rooms were simply ok. They are a bit run down, but decent. Toilet paper must be scarce, we were given 2 rolls for 5 people, for almost 4 days. I had to ask for more from front desk, getting one roll at a time. I felt I had to beg for a second roll. The Good: LOCATION! Easy to walk to restaurants, and the beach is right out front. The outdoor pool was nice to have as it was super windy on the beach a few days. CLEANLINESS! The room was clean- however needs updating. The Bad: Our door to/from hallway didn't close properly & our door to the balcony only stayed closed with the safety latch. Even then it didn't "close" all the way, stayed open a crack. The King bed was clean, but basic. The A.C. unit was noisy, but worked well. The luggage rack was rusty, but, again, worked. Breakfast was minimal & the coffee was horrible. Many guests left their coffee cups right by the coffee machine once they realized it barely had any color to it. The chairs in the common area/ breakfast space need refreshing. They are all peeling and unattractive. The (one) elevator seemed sketchy, but we were close to the stairs & used them mostly. And finally, I noticed a faint smell of (propane) gas in the lobby area most of the times we walked through. We were told they wouldn't clean our room daily & to let them know if we needed anything. We were there for 3 nights & no one ever came into our room. We did ask once for clean towels. The staff was fine, some seemed friendlier than others. Our room was very clean and well presented. The breakfast bar was very nice and a pleasant surprise for the price we paid. Our beds were very comfortable and they had all the extra things in our room, coffee, hairdryer, and iron etc. The elevators were slow, and you could see into the very old parts of them. Going from ground floor to third floor, we had to transfer to another elevator. The staff were friendly and helpful, but we did encounter some uncivilized guests, lol. Overall, great deal! read more

This hotel gets a two star rating because of they're ignorant pet policy. People can come with their pets, loud dogs, etc., and leave them in the room, barking, climbing up the walls chewing up the electrical cords starting fires who knows what and just leave for the day leaving their pets inside the room so I would consider this an unsafe place to lay your head down at night. The room was old but clean. The tub needs to be reglazed. The door to the balcony was difficult to open and close. I was afraid to close the bathroom door I was afraid it would not open. The staff very friendly. Breakfast good but basic. The pillows were weird one bed pillow and 3 throw pillows. lol the bar the food was cooked when ordered. We checked in Sunday and out Wednesday which did not qualify us for maid service but you could go to the front desk if you need anything. Pricey but I'm sure everything is pricey in July. I would only stay again as a last resort. It's a good location. read more

Stayed in late July as solo on business. Ok room. Nothing special but was at least clean and no off smells or cleaning chemicals shoe smell. Bed was ok...not great. TV channels limited. Internet ok. Common areas in room section not so great and elevator area is awful. No issue with noise. Overall friendly staff. Bar was kinda so-so and food, though inexpensive was meh. Also, Fox News should not be what's on there either. Just don't need political crap on vacation or business. Bartender did change when asked. Rate kinda steep for what it is, but it has great beach access and a large pool. Convenient location. read more

After our room reservation at a comfort inn down the road fell through, we were able to make a last minute reservation here for two rooms (one being a dog friendly room). After spending the day on the beach we checked into our room around 5/6 pm. Our rooms were clean and ready for us. One room had two queen beds and the pet friendly room had one king bed. They provided a rollaway bed for this second room at no additional charge. The rooms were more expensive than they were at the first comfort inn down the road. I believe the rooms are nicer here based on seeing the rooms at the other hotel. Plus all the employees we interacted with were friendly, helpful, and welcoming. They even provided us with a list of local restaurants offering take-out or delivery. Due to COVID-19, complementary bagged breakfasts (see picture) were provided rather than having their typically breakfast set-up to keep guests safe. The hotel is conveniently located right on the beach so you only need to walk outside to get there. They do not have a large porch with seating or hose to wash the dogs off with like the other hotel. They do have a gazebo (the closer entrance was caution taped off so the only way to get to it is to walk down the beach first) and a shower outside the hotel. Since we were in a dog friendly room it had a door leading directly outside towards the beach. This made it incredibly easy to take our dogs outside to relieve themselves and for us to walk to the beach. Although this was nice, the pet friendly rooms are only available on the first floor. The first floor is noisy and our room was right next to the ice machine. The noise interrupted our sleep, but we were only there for one night so it was not a big deal. I believe we were in the handicap room since the bathroom was very large. The extra space was nice, however, the lock on the bathroom door did not work. Other information: -comfortable beds -TV worked well, only had one short issue with connecting -free wifi, new password everyday provided with the room key -good water pressure and temperature in the shower -ample bright lighting -large mini fridge We would stay here again. read more

My girlfriend and I took advantage of spectacular weather to spend some time at the Outer Banks. As we wanted an oceanfront room and there were plenty of options, we chose Comfort Inn on the Ocean because of similar great great experiences with that hotel chain. The Comfort Inn met our needs adequately. I must say customer service was outstanding and the ocean view didn't disappoint. However, the room was a bit pricey. I realize that rooms on the oceanfront tend to be more expensive than not; but, it is several weeks after tourist season. What was most disappointing is that the room was not a $250 quality, as seen by the attached pictures. There was rust in the bathtub, the sink was clogged (maintenance fixed it straight away, though), and the vent in the bathroom looked like it had a sweater on. That said, I would consider staying here again. Just not for $250. read more

The location is wonderful. We brought our dog they up charge daily for pets. I don't understand why. The room had dog food under the bed and pieces of a toy they hadn't vacuumed under the bed. I told the front desk all she said was " I will tell housekeeping " no apology. The staff is not friendly to the guests only to each other I said hello each time I passed employees they say nothing but when an employee said hi to another employee they talk and laugh. We love this little place. We've been coming here for about four years now, ever since a friend got married in nearby Kitty Hawk and I had to find a dog-friendly hotel. There are obviously hundreds of places to choose from in OBX, but we keep coming back here because the staff are so warm and friendly, they make you feel like family. It's of course not a fancy place (I hate fancy places anyway), but it is clean and well maintained, and if you have a problem with anything at all, you just have to ask and it's handled. I love that this hotel's "dune view" rooms are just a dune away from the beach, which is absolutely amazing for the price. Plus, the location is perfect: you are minutes away from everything. We just got here this evening and right now I'm listening to the waves and the wind I can't wait to wake up and walk the beach in the morning. One more thing: Rosie loves that the nice ladies at the front desk *always* have treats for her! P.S. I also love how the rooms have framed photos with beach themes instead of generic art. read more

Room was clean, hi def tv worked well as did the free wifi. Staff was polite. Breakfast bar had scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, a crock pot of grits, plus cereals, fruits, etc. Property features two walkways with beach access. One has a patio area with seats. During tourist season you will be paying a premium price to stay at all oceanfront hotels in this area, including here. Off season it was reasonably priced. read more

She should be more friendly to customers when checking in. We did ask for an early check in, but her overall communication and just attitude and personality was just not friendly. Got a last minute pet friendly room for Labor Day weekend, very happy with our choice. Staff were friendly, place was clean, bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in in a while and you just can't beat the beach access. Now we were on the ground floor because of the dog friendly request so our view was a sand dune, but if anyone complains because the OBX is trying to protect themselves from storms then they probably should stay home. Breakfast was surprisingly good. Overall, very happy with our choice and would go again. PET OWNERS BEWARE: this place refuses pets even though they advertised as a pets friendly hotel. They only have a small numbers of rooms are pets friendly. We booked the hotel online and indicated we have a pet, and drove four hours only had the hotel tell us that we couldn't stay because they didn't have pets room available, no apology no offer for future discount, no nothing. read more

This hotel is fine if you're looking for something to just get the job done. I wouldn't expect anything extravagant. Pretty crappy how they glorify the front lobby with a flashy fish tank but the rooms aren't that amazing. Everything is clean but some things do need to be touched up and repaired. Customer service is good, if you need towels or anything they bring it right up. Just very underwhelmed when I saw online the good reviews and this is the reality. read more

This place again is old and run down and horrible like the two other Choice Hotels in awful Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head. The smell in the lobby is worse than the bottom of a Pirates ship. Choice Hotels has turned horrible and the managers of these places are lousy and have no self worth or pride of ownership. All three Choice Options in this horrible place called OBX first, Choice is the problem for allowing this and new management and new buildings are needed. Will that ever happen so the nightmare for paying customers will end? read more

We kicked off our vacation with one night at the Comfort Inn before heading to our rental in Avon. We were able to check into our room a little early which was great after our long ride. The hotel staff was great, especially Joel at the reception desk. The others were also friendly and eager to please. The room was clean and the air conditioner was super efficient. The pool was a nice alternative to the beach and both were very nice. The continental breakfast had the usual choices and there was plenty of everything. All in all, while not the Ritz, the Comfort Inn was a really good choice, affordable and staffed with great help. There were a few places that could use a little cosmetic work but on the whole it was a very pleasant place to stay. read more

Came here for my birthday/Super Bowl weekend. I must say this was a pretty decent hotel. Stayed for two nights and it was only $78/night. This was my first time visiting Outer Banks. There's a hot breakfast buffet every morning. Bacon, sausage, eggs, waffles, cereal, fruit, yogurt, everything. Food was ok. I especially enjoyed the cinnamon roll waffles. Our hotel room was literally on the beach with a great view of the ocean. I was able to find a gym in the hotel but it was only a leg press machine, treadmill, and stair master. Nothing for lifting:( There were a lot of places near the hotel but most of them were closed because it's winter time. I plan on visiting during the summer so I can really explore the town when it's open. read more

This is my second stay at this hotel. I've found most of the beaches in obx are pretty dingy and smelly. Even though this hotel accepts pets, it is neither dingy nor smelly! They have some rooms for customers with pets and some rooms that pets aren't allowed. This provides a much more pleasant stay. They also have a much better than average free breakfast. The staff cooks it and it tastes so much better than most hotels I've been to. It usually just tastes like microwaved disaster. They are renovating the hotel now so I expect some even nicer stays in the future! This hotel is right on the beach. If you get a first floor room, you'll have direct access to the beach. 2nd floor and above have great views. Either is a win/win! read more

They are doing a good job during this challenging time with the pandemic and things were kept socially distanced and safe as possible. Overall, the hotel building needs some TLC as it is showing it's age. Pool was nice and warm enough to enjoy it but the landscaping around it was sad. Looks a bit disheveled overall and area to walk out to the beach could use a make over too. Looks like some attempts were made to reconstruct some of it but it's rough. Our room was average with a lumpy bed and one suggestion is to provide a paper TV channel listing that could be disposed of and replaced for each guest. read more

It's an ok hotel. Our ceilings looked like they were going to fall apart, our door's peep hole has paint over it ?? The cleaners are over the top friendly but front desk has this stuck up white woman. We've gone down to ask for towels many occasions and they gave us 1 each time because "they are out of towels". I guess they can't afford more towels or something. Edit: I wanted to give a shoutout to the awesome cleaners, breakfast workers, and maintenance guy. They've all been super helpful and kind to us! My husband and I pricelined this hotel for $56 (taxes and all) during the offseason (January) and couldn't have been more pleased! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were incredibly clean and the breakfast was terrific. We loved it and will definitely be back!! read more

It has bad reviews on yelp and I still went. Why? Budget and pet friendly in the outer banks. This place is not clean and we were prepared for that. We kept our shoes on. You can smell the faint but distinctive dog-smell in the hallways. I squished a small bug on the floor in the bathroom. And when I went to walk the dog before bed I smelled pot in the hallway. The sheets felt clean and the pillows and mattress were fluffy and comfortable. The employees were nice. We only stayed one night and promptly took showers when we got home. I felt a little gross but got a good night's sleep and a free breakfast. Am I a little ashamed that I stayed here? Yes. Next time we will save more money before vacationing and budget more for the hotel. But after pet fee and taxes we paid $135. read more

Great experience at the hotel. Came for one night on February 24th with my dog ($25 pet fee). Staff was helpful and friendly. The hotel is under major renovations right now so the elevator doesn't work but who cares about a little extra walking - I asked for a top floor room anyways and it was no big deal walking some stairs. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. Each room has a balcony. My standard room also had an unexpected microwave and fridge which was perfect and useful during my stay. There are a couple reviews I don't really get. What else are you expecting out of a freaking hotel room? Is it clean, is the bed comfortable, does it have four walls, a roof and a bathroom? Everything else is a bonus. Lay your cry baby head down and go to sleep. I'm heading back again this weekend and will gladly stay at the same hotel again. Some reviews say that during the 'on' season rooms are 300 bucks. That sounds pricey to me, but I'd assume most hotels around that time of year are that expensive if your paying standard rate. We had to make a quick trip to the beach for visiting and randomly chose this place. It was clean. I stayed here for two nights recently on a little getaway with my boyfriend and our dog. I was ... less than enthused about the place. When I walked in, I immediately saw how lovely the lobby is. It's clearly been renovated in the past few years. There's a bar area + lots of nice seating. The people that work here are really, really nice. Once we left the lobby, though, it kind of went downhill from there. (Or perhaps I should say uphill ... because there are two rather steep ramps you must go up to get to the elevator and/or stairwell. Rather odd!) There were signs everywhere apologizing for hurricane damage, and we saw the occasional a/c unit lying around the elevator doors (presumably they were being replaced after Hurricane Irene). The whole place beyond the lobby just looked ... tired. I booked a pet-friendly, non-smoking room. We were definitely on a smoking floor (the third), which to me is the same as being in a smoking room. Ick. The room was a bit worn, which I'm fine with, but it definitely smelled of cat -- specifically, cat litter. Double ick. Since we were here in the off-season, it was mostly quiet, which was nice. The people in the room directly below us left their little yip-yip dog in their bathroom all day, which meant we heard it crying/barking when we were in our room. Uncool. Wi-fi was free but sluggish. On the upside, we had a great view of the ocean from our little balcony. And I cannot stress enough that the employees were very friendly and helpful. A notebook of mine fell off the luggage cart on our way in, and Pixie at the front desk found it and called my cellphone number, which was in the front of the notebook. She brought it up to the room right away, which was so nice of her. And the employees complimented our dog when we came in and out of the lobby. So I guess with this place, it's all a trade-off. Good and bad. But if I plan another short trip to the Outer Banks, I'll probably look into another pet-friendly place. read more

I feel like this hotel was built in the 60s or 70s and has not been updated well. Overall, the back deck overlooking the ocean is very nice. We had an oceanfront room which we enjoyed. I don't think we would stay here again but want to definitely thank the staff for being so friendly. read more

This hotel is so incredibly NOISY! You hear every movement of the guests around you. The doors are VERY loud so if you are a light sleeper, I do not recommend. The room itself is very dark, and ocean view rooms on the first floor do not actually view the ocean. The gym consists of one treadmill, one stair climber and one leg extension machine. Felt like we were taken advantage of due to the pandemic and the sudden easing of travel restrictions. Charged $500 per night and accomodaitons were barely adequate. Great view of ocean yes and that was about it. When we first arrived and going to our rooms heard housekeepers loudly complaing about management and lack of support in getting rooms cleaned. Went down stairs to talk front desk staff and they were arguing among themselves about who was supposed to do what, etc. Then were upset that they had to stop and assist us with information. The free breakfast was barely adequate to say the least but I admit I loved their waffle machine. One other positive was that we had our 80 yearl old dad with us who has to use a wheel chair and we had an handicap parking spot immediately adjacent to the entrance that we were able to use for the entire stay which was great. Mainly upset about the price we were charged for rooms which was extreme for the accomodaitons and service. read more

Staying in the area for a wedding, we got there a bit early. Darlene at the desk was great and got us into an ocean view room a couple of hours early. The staff was great and we liked this much better than the other Comfort Inn we had stayed in the night before down the shore. Hotel is right on the beach and you can just walk right out. read more
