When I went to check out, the assistant manager simply walked to the register and told me to bring my items over. She did not ask if I was ready to purchase or if I had found everything I needed. I also requested a military discount and was prepared to show my military ID, but was told it would not apply to the shoes I selected. No clear explanation was given, and the policy seemed inconsistent and unclear. During the checkout process, instead of focusing on my transaction, the assistant manager carried on a casual conversation with the security guard, who was eating popcorn at the time. They openly discussed other customers in the store, which I found highly inappropriate and unprofessional. This was not only poor service--it was unacceptable behavior for someone in a management role. As the first and primary representative customers encounter, the assistant manager set a negative tone for the entire experience. If this is the standard of customer service that Famous Footwear accepts from its leadership at Tanger Mall, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this store to others. I mean it's a boutique with a luxury feel in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the country and you can walk out paying the same prices you would at a big box place like TJ Maxx.
