I recently stayed here for 4 days while working in Salem for a work assignment project. At first I was a bit disappointed. The receptionist put me in a far away room on one end of the building on the second floor when I asked for a high floor room by the elevator/lobby. Before I got to my room I was disappointed. I went back and had to wait a bit before I got helped. However, she switched me to a close room near the pool. I actually loved this room. Even though it was close to the pool, it was super quiet, recently remodeled, and convient to the breakfast room. They had sugar and peanut butter cookies at checkin with coffee and the breakfast was good. They even had grapes at breakfast too and a variety of food selections. They would switch the offerings so sometimes there was sausage other days bacon - and some days we had scrambled eggs and other days it was boiled and fried. Some days they had bagels other days they had English muffins. Lots of variety. I liked that they had a small little book and game library near the lobby too plus a variety of tourist literature. The place was cozy and felt like a small apartment. I had housekeeping one day, but not the others. I would have tipped to have housekeeping every day, but that didn't happen and i wasn't expecting it. I also had a bit of trouble getting recognized as a Choice reward member because my work made the reservation, but I did get things fixed. It's in a quiet business/medical cul-de-sac close to the freeway, but the rooms were quiet and the place had everything essential for a good stay. It's close to a pretty man-made lake. I stopped to see the geese and visit the bakery cupcake and cookie place nearby. It's a great value for what you get. I would stay here again. I would recommend this place for people staying in Salem. read more

As soon as you walk into the lobby, the smell is overwhelming. It stinks!! There was loud construction going on at the floor I was staying in so it was very noisy the whole stay. When you check in, the receptionist tells us that they do not clean our room during our stay, and if we need towels or our garbage emptied, we'll have to request it. I travel very often, and this is the first time that a hotel has said that we do not receive service to our room. They do offer breakfast in the morning and it's pretty decent. I called the Comfort Suites in Salem to request a refund since we are unable to make our trip there for June 7th - well over a week in advance. I spoke to Marie who said I didn't qualify for a refund due to the huge discount I received when booking this room with Expedia. However, I had your site pulled up and saw the rate would be $170. I failed to see how $22 is a huge discount. When I mentioned this, Marie laughed. So I asked her if she thought this was funny. She continued to be rude and condescending about my concern as to why I couldn't receive a refund. I find this policy outrageous and your staff extremely unprofessional. I called the Customer Service line at Choice (1-800-300-8800) and was told that Expedia would have to issue the refund. I called Expedia and they said Choice Hotels would have to issue the refund. They attempted to call the hotel in Oregon with me on the line and the manager refused to refund me. Expedia said the choice to refund is that of Choice Hotel. I called Customer Service again at Choice and they said they will not refund me. Period. This is nothing short of theft and is absolutely unacceptable. If I had made the same reservation on your website, I would receive a refund. Policy should not matter when life happens and reservations are cancelled within the company policy. This is NOT how you treat your customers. With so many choices of where to stay, I can tell you this experience has left me never wanting to stay at a Choice hotel moving forward. Room was clean, beds were super soft. Extra pillow and blanket in the room. Breakfast was really nice. The only problem is the pool and hot tub. Pool was WAY too cold to be comfortable and hot tub WAY too hot. If they put a couple degrees up in the pool and likewise down on the hot tub, everyone would be happy and it wouldn't change the cost of heating. Will look for someplace next time that keeps them more comfortable. read more

We stay at many Choice hotels for travel volleyball because they are usually clean, good breakfast, and excellent customer service. This hotel was poor in all departments. And FYI, if they get a chance to try and take advantage of you....they will. read more

Whoa hot mess! They should be discounting rates for this! There was zero disclosure at checkin. There are little vague "excuse our dust" signs. They don't do it justice! BIG mess! The gentleman who checked us in was friendly enough, but he failed to let us know what the breakfast situation was. When we came downstairs in the morning for the continental breakfast that was specified on their website, the very rude woman at the front desk pointed to a piece of paper on the counter and told us we could order something off it and they would bring it to our room"when they had a chance." We've stayed at other hotels, including the Comfort Inn in McMinnville (which is great!) that offered a modified version of the self- serve continental breakfast during COVID. My biggest gripe is the service. My attention to the front desk was likely heightened because of that single interaction. However, we stayed there for 4 nights. Not even one single time were we greeted by the front desk as we came or left the hotel. Very different than McMinnville. We won't be staying there again. Too bad, since our kids just moved to Salem and we visit them 4-5 times a year. read more

Stayed here for two night. Check in was easy. Front desk was always friendly. Room was great. Bed was comfortable. Plenty of grass for our dog. Room came w refrigerator and microwave. Complimentary breakfast was discontinued due to covid. Not knocking stars for something out of their control they passed out snack bags that any child would love. We don't eat muffins or granola bars at our age. Again nothing to complain about. Easter Sunday they offered egg sausage biscuits. Water pressure was fine and temp was hot enough. Terrible experience with front desk. Rude and incompetent. We used to love staying here, but this time were assessed random charges, and not given AAA discount that was promised. Called the hotel multiple times after check out, and was told the manager would "call me back" but never did. We've stayed here a few times while visiting our college student. It's comfortable & clean. The breakfast is typical. This stay was interesting as the fire alarm went off at 2am and then again 3-4 times more. No one seemed to be concerned- no evacuating, no announcements. Found out in the morning that it was a failed sprinkler system. Not a great experience the first night. Thankfully it didn't happen on the second night. Not sure if stay again. read more

Comfortable hotel with good sized rooms. Very clean and they have a small gym with a treadmill, elliptical and bike. Also has free weights in there. There is a large pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast was good with plenty of options including cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy. Coffee and tea are available 24/7 and there are cookies in the evening. They also have a grab and go breakfast option if you have to head out early. Conveniently located just off the freeway and next to a Costco. read more

Arriving around 12:45pm, we had hoped to check in early after all our driving. The front desk clerk said thr toom was not available until at least a half hour. We actually waited in the lobby, too tired to explore. Exactly a half an hour went by and the clerk (forgot his name, but brunette with a small pony tail?) remembered my name and checked us in. He was a blessing. The room was spacious, every inch of that hotel was spotless. We got to smoke our cigars and enjoy our adult beverages in their courtyard. The only downfall to that is you can't get back in without going around the hotel. I would recommend a key-holder door installed. Breakfast is standard with eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage and or bacon, cereal, yogurt, danishes and assorted breads. We didn't utilize their indoor pool or gym but from the patio, it looked spacious and clean. They provided lemon iced-water in the lobby that yes, we refilled our water bottles to keep hydrated. There were lots of little things that they provided to make your stay even more pleasant. I would definitely stay here again if ever in Salem as all the staff were welcoming and pleasant. read more

The reason I selected this place was because it was pet friendly. In addition to your room rate, there is a $35 pet fee to keep your pooch with you. The place is clean, which is always my main concern. I can't speak for the free breakfast as we left before breakfast was served. There is plenty of parking available here if you have a car. Only a few complaints about the room. The bathroom was small. if the bathroom door is open, you need to maneuver around the door to get around the bathroom. Also the mini fridge in the room doesn't get cold enough. There is no central air and instead there is an air conditioning unit attached to the wall, which is very noisy when it is turned on. read more

The front desk people were nice enough when you first check in, however the situation reverses as your stay progresses. I paid by credit card and then the next day, paid in cash for the credit card not to be charged. I did this twice, for my 2 day stay. The last day, when I paid in cash to reverse the amount on my credit card again, thefront desk provided a receipt that showed I had a balance for what I just paid. When I questioned it, I was told that I just didn't understand the amount in parenthesis actually was a zero balance. I have been trying to contact anyone at Comfort Suites to look into this situation, but all they provide is a useless phone number to contact them. Your basically in a phone/computer loop LIKE VERIZON, where your told how busy they are and how much your business means to them. AWFUL PLACE, AWFUL STAFF. read more

I stayed here in August , 2014, for 7 days while judging Oregon State Fair. The hotel is a bit on the outskirts, you would need a car to get around. Moving about would run a lot of cab fares. They should have a shuttle. That is the only negative for me. The hotel is pretty new. The rooms are well equipped, new Samsung flat screens. all amenities that are expected are there. They have one of the BEST breakfast selections,and, I stay in a lot of hotels. They also serve a small dinner three nights(which I did not try). Since the only restaurant nearby is Dennys(about 6 blocks)--good thinking. The staff is genuinely on the ball. Was here for a training class today. We were in the Oregon Room. Nice facility. Room was adequate for the class. One thing about a training room that always is a bother is the room temperature, the room was just the right temp. I liked the touch of a single cup coffee dispenser in the meeting room! Worked great, however the brand of coffee they serve needs to be upgraded...tasted stale and burnt. read more

I booked a room for Friday and Saturday night (this was the last weekend my husband and I get to spend together before his deployment). On Friday night at 5 pm, they called us and said our room was overbooked and that there were no rooms left for the duration of the stay. We were offered no solutions so we had to cancel since we didn't have a room! We had to scramble and found ourselves at a horrible Choice Hotel property the first night before switching to a much better Hilton property. This was so stressful! read more

PROS: I brought my daughter & her friend to Salem for the Oregon State Fair on a 3 day weekend. Checked in late last night (Friday) & Front Desk Staff was very friendly. Asked us for preference of level of floor. Fresh baked home made cookies were available on Front Desk Counter. Pool closed at midnight but staff allowed my 15 year old girls to swim & enjoy the jacuzzi as late as they wanted (we did not arrive at hotel until 11:30 pm). We had two queens, dresser, new Sony flat screen TV, two comfy chairs, micro & fridge. Bathroom clean & roomy. Shampoo lathered hair, conditioner nice & soap did not leave sticky film on body :0) Breakfast was a variety of waffles, oatmeal, fruit, muffins, biscuits & gravy, bacon, & OJ. CONS: We stayed on the bottom floor & did not hear foot steps up above. In the morning we did hear muffled sounds of doors opening & closing (not bad) & vaccuuming (louder than doors). Check out time is 11 am. We asked for a noon check out & was told the latest we could stay would be 11:45...ok. The breakfast room was 75% full & was abruptly interrupted when the Front Desk Staff announced in a loud voice to my daughter & her friend, "Before the two of you get anymore food you need to go get shoes on your feet." Startled, we looked down & surely they forgot to put shoes on. I get it. ...but so did everyone else trying to enjoy their breakgast stay. Next time though, "Excuse me, could you two please go put your shoes on before you finish getting more food", in a nice & subtle way would be preferred. Checking in, the front desk staff made me feel welcomed. They let me know there was a light dinner available and cookies would be served fresh shortly after dinner. Cool! Dinner was a simple lettice salad and turkey and cheese roll-ups. Food was good! My room was very clean and comfortable. There were extra pillows, and the bad supper cozzy with plush quilt topper mattress. I was very happy! In the morning, breakfast was pretty good. They surved eggs and sausage along with grapes, apples, oranges, yougret, breads, bagles, juice and coffee. The place is well kept, clean and happy! I will be back for more! read more

This hotel has been our go to in Salem for over 3 years. We have used this hotel with good experiences pretty much every time. It sits just a short distance back behind the Costco so it is easy to find. It's not perfect but does a great job for us. Glad to recommend it to anyone. Was told I was going to have a whirlpool room when I book got there and they said there will not be a whirlpool room for me which kind of pissed me off since I was told that when I paid. The stairwell smells like BO (the main front stairs from the lobby to my room), what do I expect them to do about it? It went on for 4 days. Quick night stay was clean and comfortable. Hotel was right off the highway and quite easy to get too, although it's in a commercial park area and so it seemed a bit out of place.
