Like another reviewer we often stay at La Quinta due to its (generally) predictable quality. When we arrived at 11 pm the night clerk was gone - when they returned their demeanor was odd - no greeting, flat affect, almost had the feel of being put out at our presence but not quite. I attributed it to the trend that nighttime employees are often a little different...the entire interaction was just off putting. As we step out of the elevator the hallway has a lingering odor of cigarette smoke, dirty and an unsuccessful cleaning attempt to deal with the odor. We get to our room which is like stepping into a sauna - hot, musty and humid but was quickly dealt with by turning on the air conditioning and opening the window to get fresh air in (it was cool night). Then the bathroom...shower mat covered in hair, hair on the walls of the tub and generally dirty - but that wasn't the best part of the stay... The best part was the smoke detector battery starts going off at 3am - and it isn't the slight beep like on a home detector - but a loud, obnoxious beep that could not be ignored. Almost a sleepless night - what sleep that was had was out of pure exhaustion. With the overall lack of attention to so many things it's not surprising that the staff would fail to change the batteries in their smoke detectors on a regular basis despite just about every fire department in the nation reminding everyone, every year, to change out the batteries in your smoke detectors twice annually to ensure they work... If this were some mom and pop hotel off the beaten tracks with low occupancies and few resources I might give them 2/5 stars - but this is an established chain with Wyndham's name....the fact that they can't reliably clean the general facility including the bathrooms (not just my experience - but a trend based on other reviews) but they also don't seem to have a routine maintenance schedule that includes maintaining the smoke alarm battery replacement. This isn't just an inconvenience, but a safety issue that has no excuse for being overlooked. Do yourself a favor - keep driving and find somewhere else. Update* I hadn't seen the shower at the time of the review - the ceiling is covered in mold...

Line to get checked in at La Quinta

Be prepared to wait 20-30 minutes per reservation to check-in. The WiFi seems to be decent so I'm not sure if the lady in the front is running background checks on everyone or what but it takes forever to get checked in. Other than that it's not a bad place to stay

We got the spa room and it was disappointing... the spa tub is a tub shower and very shallow and dirty. We have stayed and less expensive hotel chains that had better layout and spa rooms for less money. I would not recommend if your looking for s romantic room... it's a small and cramp room even for one night... our toilet Became logged and my husband had to get a plunger because the front desk said there was no maintenance staff... what a waste of money The reason they got one star is that they did accept my comfort animals (cat) while relocating so she did not stay in a cold car.... this was our first stay at at La Quinta and the last. Too much money for what is offered.

Floor was clean for the most part

Desk was great, lots of room with a large additional rolling table for more space if needed. (I did move a lamp to the desk for more light) Mattress/pillows-5-Very comfortable bed, could have used a firm pillow to match the medium and soft ones; overall a great sleeping experience. Bathroom was large and the water was super hot. Elevator speed/availability-3-There are two elevators and only one was working, and it seemed to get stuck on floors occasionally. The good news is the stairs are right there and easy access. Gym/pool-5-I didn't use the pool(although many people were) but the gym was very good. The was a full compliment of dumbbells from 5-50 lb., a cable machine, bench, kettle bells, and cardio equipment. Restaurant-n/a none, but the free breakfast was very good. Staff-5-Front desk folks were really nice and helpful. No known benefit if you are a Diamond member which surprised me, I was told that because there is no on-site restaurant there were no a diamond perks...not sure what that means. Price-5- Very good pricing. Overall-5- I will definitely stay there again if I am in the area. Shout out-Raven at the front desk, really nice, hospitable, and answered all of my questions with a smile.

We selected this property because of its overall location which was not only convenient to family and friends but also extremely convenient for hopping on I-5. We checked in around 3 PM in order to get settled in our room before meeting family for dinner. As always, we appreciate the size and layout of the Home2Suites line of Hilton properties. We appreciate the kitchenette and apartment size refrigerator/freezer, along with ample counter space including two sinks, one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom, and a place to easily set up your laptop if needed. The entire flow of the room works really well for us. The studio suites are large enough to accommodate more than two people, but we've also enjoyed staying in the one bedroom suite which offers even more room and is similar to a small apartment. We learned they opened in February of 2021 and were busy from the start. We were told they initially housed many families that first year who were displaced from their homes because of Oregon wildfires in the area. In addition to being very convenient to I-5, it is also extremely convenient to Highway 22 which runs east and west through the area. As common in Home2Suites properties there is a nice size gym, laundry facility, a better than average hotel breakfast served daily, and this particular property has a indoor pool and hot tub, which makes it nice since it is open year round. There is also a patio area which offers outdoor seating and barbecue grills. Also, every staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful. But a special shout out to Terrence, who was extremely helpful in assisting my wife with her early morning laundry routine. Our only negative experience was they do not appear to have enough luggage carts for the property. We struggled upon check in and check out to locate a luggage cart, which makes it much easier for us to transport our cooler, which is not on wheels, and of course, helpful with transporting additional luggage.

Downsides: - Hotel temp was HOT. ALL THE TIME. The elevators were too. - Pillows lumpy, need to be replaced - Showers have rain shower heads...really just the worst when you're not a man. - Don't go here for the views. My window looked out at the top of a building lol - TV's are still on DirectTV. Yall really gotta switch to streaming services (Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, etc) Upsides: -I appreciate that the hotel cares about conservation and limiting their carbon footprint -The complimentary aluminum bottled waters were nice - They have a sound machine which is pretty neat -- haven't seen that in other hotels - Staff was nice

My room was far larger than expected, and was very well-equipped. In addition to all the standards (in-room refrigerator, microwave, etc.) was a white noise (and others) machine to assist with sleep (one minor gripe is that the sound isolation between rooms isn't terribly great), and a wall-mounted thermostat for the air conditioner and heat. One very thoughtful touch was two bottles of water, free of charge, already in my room upon arrival. Staff was incredibly helpful, professional, and friendly. My room was immaculate, and there were no signs of wear on anything nor neglected repairs. Complimentary breakfast was better than most. The mains also vary from day to day. There is a separate waffle station from the main hot dishes, and it features pastries that were far better than most, which was a really pleasant surprise. The covered parking garage is TIGHT, and is shared with the in-hotel restaurant (Bentley's), and the Salem Convention Center, so it can get crowded. There are two "Blink" EV charging stations, which is appreciated.

The receptionist put me in a far away room on one end of the building on the second floor when I asked for a high floor room by the elevator/lobby. Before I got to my room I was disappointed. I went back and had to wait a bit before I got helped. However, she switched me to a close room near the pool. I actually loved this room. Even though it was close to the pool, it was super quiet, recently remodeled, and convient to the breakfast room. They had sugar and peanut butter cookies at checkin with coffee and the breakfast was good. They even had grapes at breakfast too and a variety of food selections. They would switch the offerings so sometimes there was sausage other days bacon - and some days we had scrambled eggs and other days it was boiled and fried. Some days they had bagels other days they had English muffins. Lots of variety. I liked that they had a small little book and game library near the lobby too plus a variety of tourist literature. The place was cozy and felt like a small apartment. I had housekeeping one day, but not the others. I would have tipped to have housekeeping every day, but that didn't happen and i wasn't expecting it. I also had a bit of trouble getting recognized as a Choice reward member because my work made the reservation, but I did get things fixed. It's in a quiet business/medical cul-de-sac close to the freeway, but the rooms were quiet and the place had everything essential for a good stay. It's close to a pretty man-made lake. I stopped to see the geese and visit the bakery cupcake and cookie place nearby. It's a great value for what you get. I would stay here again. I would recommend this place for people staying in Salem.
