The location is very convenient and right off the freeway, but that also means a lot of traffic noise if your room faces the highway or Market Street. A big positive was the free EV charging -- I woke up to a full battery and continued my trip with no issues. Check‑in was friendly, and the warm cookie was a nice touch. The room itself was spacious with a couch, though oddly the couch doesn't face the TV. The end table was sticky and not cleaned properly, and I noticed a burn hole in the carpet near the bed. The carpet overall is showing its age and could use shampooing or replacement. They also charge $15 for a hotel type breakfast that would normally be free at other hotels which was disappointing. I skipped it and went to Elmer's down the street instead and had a much better meal for about the same price. Convenient location and great EV charging, but the noise, worn carpet, and cleanliness issues keep it from being a stronger stay. read more

On top of that the bed is hard as a slab. Very uncomfortable. The pillows are terrible. Fortunately I brought my own Hest pillow so at least that was comfortable. But here's the real reason for dropping it to one star I'd give them less if I could. Went to the lobby this morning no coffee! No breakfast! You had one job. You failed. Another Superb Stay with DoubleTree - Highly Recommend! After a wonderful stay at the DoubleTree in Tigard, we spent the next night at the DoubleTree by Hilton Salem, and it was just as superb! We made a very late booking and checked in around 9:00 PM. Angela at the front desk was absolutely awesome and so accommodating with our last-minute arrival.We immediately took advantage of the jacuzzi, which stays open until 10:00 PM--the perfect way to unwind. The next morning, we loved the breakfast. It is definitely not your ordinary, basic bagel-and-coffee setup; there were great quality options. From check-in to check-out, the entire process was completely hassle-free.I highly recommend DoubleTree and the Hilton family of hotels. We stayed here for two nights near the end of September while visiting family in the area. We usually stick with Hilton properties and like the Home2 Suites brand, but the Salem Home2 was considerably more expensive than the DoubleTree, so we decided to give this place a try. We booked ahead and checked in online, though we still had to stop at the front desk for keys. We're not quite ready to rely on the digital key in the Hilton app due to past experiences. The hotel is right off the Market Street exit in Salem. The area is fairly busy, and getting in and out of the parking lot--especially near the neighboring McDonald's--can be a little tricky if you need to turn left. Our room setup was somewhat similar to a Home2, though smaller, with just a mini fridge, microwave, and sofa seating. We were on the side facing I-5, so road noise was constant. It didn't bother us much--more like background white noise--but it was noticeable. The heating and cooling were controlled directly on the unit under the window, which is typical of older properties. Newer ones usually have wall-mounted thermostats. That said, the room itself looked recently remodeled and was generally comfortable. The only real negative was the desk chair, which had several tears exposing the cushion underneath and definitely needed replacing. We didn't use most of the hotel's amenities, but there is a breakfast area ($15 per person) and a small bar, neither of which looked busy when we passed by. The property also has an indoor pool and fitness area. Overall, this was an adequate and reasonably comfortable stay, and we were satisfied with our choice. read more

I have no words! Stay at your own risk I was already worried about staying at this hotel but I wanted to be close to my daughter. I walked into the room it smelled bad. The floor is something you can't even walk on; how any hotel could stay open with carpets as disgusting and stained as these were beyond me. I had to leave my tennis shoes on the floors are so gross, dirty, and sticky. When I finally decide to get into the bed, I pull back the blankets and a little bug of some kind ran across the bed like a ant or I don't know what bedbugs look like and then there were little black hairs all in the bed. Absolutely disgusting then they've moved my room. The floors are still just as gross. The quality of the bed is horrible. I could only imagine what has slept on these pillows or the last time they've ever been cleaned they're flat and gross. I don't wanna look inside them to see how stained they are, but I could only imagine. I just need to get out of here and then I can't even work so they're costing me money with no Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi is down which would've been nice if they told me that upon check-in perhaps I wouldn't be sitting in a room at 10 o'clock at night and I could've made other arrangements. Got in the room - I always check bed cleanliness first. Noticed 2 hairs. 1 on the pillow, another on the fitted sheet. Immediately disgusted. Asked for new sheets. They comp'd our $10 parking in a tiny parking lot. Pulled back the sheets to change them. Noticed a massive dried stain with yellow edges on the top sheet about the size of my hand. More disgusted. Threw everything off the bed and grabbed backup blankets from my car. When we checked out, they did nothing other than to inquire about who made the bed. Used my 22k Hilton points to pay for part of this room. Very disappointed this was my experience. I hate this hotel and do not recommend it to others. Unfortunately my partner and I chose this location after a long camping trip. There was nothing posted on website about a parking fee or a 15 per person breakfast fee. Got to our room looking to enjoy and nice brewed cup of coffee only to open our spoiled creamer. With how much money I spent you'd think they could remember to change things out. The building was also under construction they could've mentioned something about it online it wasn't the biggest issue just made the building a little harder to locate. Enjoyed my two nights here! Older hotel but has been updated over the years and is very clean. Checked in using my mobile app and it let me pick my room and floor I stayed on. Bottled water and warm cookies given on check in. Big room with a king size bed (mattress very soft) and living are with couch and desk. Exercise room is tiny and has little air flow (and no a/c). They have a little fan in the room that I used. They have charging stations for electric cars but need to designate them for electric car parking only, idiots without electric cars were parked in the spot. This is an older hotel that has been renovated. The room was spacious and modern. The staff was friendly and helpful. A+ There is still some renovation going on (scaffolding went up at 9am adjacent to my room). By the time you read this review, it's probably done so I wouldn't worry about it. Breakfast and parking are $10 each, which many Hilton family hotels do not charge. There is a men's club adjacent. Despite that, I did not see any nefarious characters, homeless, or anything out of ordinary at all. I slept like a baby. Terrible experience. First, they're remodeling so the floors in the halls are covered with plastic tarp like on grandma's davenport. Pool was out of order. In the room, we found one bed wedged again the AC unit. The windows were filthy and the screen was hanging loose in one corner. The wall and floor were speckled with something. Maybe food, maybe worse. The lampshade was cracked and broken, and there was blood on the sheets. This is supposed to be a premium property, but I've seen better in a Motel 6. read more

Staff were friendly. Pool, spa, etc not open due to Covid so we understood but were disappointed none the less. We stayed in a king suite room. Room was clean, but carpet was ripping, paint peeling from the bathroom ceiling and the AC unit in the area with the double bed was so noisy we had to turn it off to sleep which made it pretty uncomfortable. Either be the correct temperature or no sleep because of noise. Also had to pay for parking. Thought that was odd because of its proximity to McDonald's and the burlesque joint (both next door) We were facing McDonald's (opposite side faces the freeway) and it was still loud to the point of being woken up by sirens and someone with loud music in the drive through. We have previously stayed at the Hampton Inn down the street. Will definitely be staying there and staying away from here. read more

Beware! We had about 12 rooms as we were traveling with a group of teens. Several of the rooms were grossly dirty. One room we got locked out of and it took over 30 minutes to get access to it. After requesting to mine out of an exceptionally dirty room, there was a sketchy vial of pills found under the bed. Customer service trying to get this taken care of was terrible!!! read more

Parking spaces are maybe 2 inches wider than an economy car so many vehicles take up more than one space. The breakfast buffet is pathetic. I stayed here five consecutive Monday through Wednesday nights for work. The customer service is great! There is a reception Monday and Tuesday nights and it has complimentary beer, wine, and snacks. I have to give a shout out to Brianna, who was friendly and served wine with a smile. The front desk lady knew me by name after the second week. The rooms were clean and comfortable. They appeared recently renovated. The bed was very comfortable and I faced the freeway-however the traffic was more white noise than semis blasting their horns. The restaurant serves mainly bar food, but I am a fan of grubhub, so I didn't try the food. If I am in the area again for work, I would definitely stay here again. read more

OK only as a last resort- the Holiday Inn across the street is much nicer and costs less. This one charges a parking fee that is not disclosed until you check in. The room was dirty, with pee on the toilet and curly hairs in the shower. Carpet and curtains were stained and both light switches had some unidentified crud on them. A single filthy elevator services the entire 4-story facility. Overall dirty and outdated (but supposedly being renovated). Definitely has a Super 8 feel to it. read more

This Double Tree is one step above a Motel-8. Upon entering you might not find the elevator. That's because there is a regular door with hinges that's connected to the elevator. It looks like a service entrance. I asked why the elevator had a lockable door, but the employee just joked. All of the floors have lockable doors on the elevator. Can you imagine going into the elevator and when the door slides open you see another door? Maybe some playful kid? Imagine the confusion. The room was organized differently. Upon entering the first thing you see is the bathroom sink to your right. I'm not sure if all rooms are like. In my opinion the bathroom sink should be in the bathroom. Later that evening I took a bath, which I had to finish off as a shower. Why? Because there was this thin flakes floating in the water. I couldn't figure out what it was. Not sure if it's skin from multiple showers, soap scum peeling off, or film from hard water. But I hoped it wasn't skin. The towels were super hard. The towel to dry off with didn't feel any softer than the floor towel. My friend said that came from over bleaching, but I'm not sure that's it. In all the remote control for the TV kinda represented the hotel. It was an older remote control and it was basic. So why three stars, instead of two? Because it still better than Motel 8. Plus, their customer service was good. The front desk saw that I wasn't getting as good a rate as I could have. So she fixed that. Also, I've never had such soft and chewy cookies. I took two. In the morning they had a regular breakfast assortment, and it was free. At night they had a free happy hour. The crowd appeared to be more "senior" so you won't get sloppy drunks. It's pretty centrally located around some restaurants, so a block or two of walking isn't bad. read more

They wanted proof when we canceled so I sent them proof still they did not reverse the charges. Being a gold card member and the Hilton being synonymous with luxury I was more than a little disappointed by my stay. The only thing good about it was the wonderful young lady at the desk with the pretty red hair. The room is run down and WAY past needing an upgrade. The window is so old it literally moved the curtains with freezing blowing air coming in. The toilet & tub and floor and wall had such huge amounts of filth on them I wrapped a towel around the pillow afraid to lay my head down. The carpet hasn't been truly cleaned in I have no idea how long but they're crusty to stand on. I wanted to stay a while longer to see my niece and nephew but I just couldn't sleep or relax in that place, I ended up at a best western about 4 miles away that at least had the business savy to have their tubs resurfaced (I asked) read more

Will not return. The hotel itself was very noisy. One of the nights we were there a group of guys, on hotel patio, directly under our window sang and laughed from 2am-5am. Not once did hotel staff ask them to be quiet or move on. The overwhelming smell of vanilla accosted me in common areas. Thankfully it did not follow inside the room. The 2 stars says most of it for me. This hotel was conveniently located for the work I had to do and being a Hilton loyalist it is the property I chose. It's a little dated and I believe it was once converted from a different hotel brand. It's not as spacious as other DoubleTree properties I've stayed at either. That being said, the staff was extremely friendly and the bed was comfortable. Sharing a parking lot with McDonald's was good for an easy breakfast since the kitchen is currently closed here. The lost stars are attributed to the dated feel of the place and minor imperfections around the room as a whole. Little things like bubbling carpet, thin walls that let a lot of noise in, and dinged up furniture definitely made me feel like I was in a Super 8 instead of a Hilton. I will probably go back to the Hampton next time I'm in Salem. read more

Our room was spacious, staff was incredibly accommodating and nice and our room on the fourth floor was blissfully quiet. Overall a good experience. Breakfast was really nice also. Lots to choose from. It looked like they are in the process of doing some updates. I'd stay here again. One other thing. Stayed in Woodburn two weeks ago and our room had bedbugs! Happy to report that our room was clean here with no bugs. My husband is an entomologist and since this is such a rampant problem, we always do a full check. Good job Doubletree! read more

Restaurant area closed ... had to pay for breakfast and take to your room. Ice machine on our floor broken. Air conditioner did not work well at all. It was very noisey with traffic from highway doors slamming etc flooring between bathroom entry and bedroom area uneven. The bed was ok. Room clean. I guess they think they can charge these prices because they are. Hilton and supply and demand. Not impressed. We've stayed at this hotel multiple times while my daughter was in college in Salem. The neighborhood around the hotel has really "gone down" with a large homeless encampment just across the street/parking lot (under the Interstate overpass and along the sides of the road). The hotel recently implemented a $7.00 per night parking fee - apparently as a direct result of the issues with the neighborhood (and to pay for security guards and more cameras). The cookies never disappoint, one of my favorite things about this brand! Service was good and friendly. Rooms are OK, nothing special. read more

It's super convenient and right off the freeway which is great. The room was clean, my only complaint was it was need of some Touch up work in the bathroom. The front desk was welcoming and gave us water and a warm cookie at check in. They offered toiletries that we had forgotten to bring. The bar/restaurant was a little underwhelming and limited but at least there's one on site. The noise was a little rough though. Traffic wasn't so bad but the noise of people slamming hotel doors, talking and watching tv next to us was pretty frustrating when we are trying to sleep. So the paper thin walls is why this is a 3 and not a 3.5 star for me. But for a cheap, clean, quick stop off on a road trip it's a good spot. The holiday inn across the street had a nice restaurant and I couldn't hear people all night long roaming the halls. As a suggestion. read more
