So staying at this hotel is about keeping expectations manageable. Considering what I know about Salem and that it's the only Marriott in town says enough. It is obviously an older hotel, and the age shows. The walls in a lot of places and scuffed and worn, things are out of order, and I'm not stepping back in that elevator. Any port in a storm, but C'mon man! We're visiting the Sate Capitol in Salem, and there aren't any upscale very nice hotels that I could find. So, as a loyal Marriott member, figured one night, a residence inn would do. (Yes, I admit, I'm a hotel snob.) Checked in easily and was happy as a Titanium Elite Lifetime member i got a nice room upgrade. The room had a big portable AC unit in it and no working heat. So, they moved us to a 2nd room. Out for a bite, came back, TV didn't work. Front desk man was nice enough to try and get it working. No luck. And, a $12 fee to self park in an open parking lot that said "park at your own risk." Don't stay here - even though there are few nice choices in Salem. read more

The manager was extremely nice and understand but there was a lady at the front today 10/29/2025 that was there around 2-3pm. She wore a n95 mask. She's probably one of the worst front desk reps I've ever dealt with in hundreds of stays. 1. The sheets in both rooms were dirty. 2. The walls and curtains... both dirty. Maybe this is what you get for $170 plus in Salem. The room was clean. We were there two nights and never saw any housekeeping service or staff. The heating worked well, if noisily. The bed was comfortable. The quality of the free breakfast was poor. I did not eat it. Everything is commodity cheap, builder grade. No design interest or character. The fridge was a decent size-- apartment type. Our 1 bedroom suite was quite small. There was barely room to walk between the bed and the dresser. The dresser drawers touched the bed when you pulled them out. The television was placed in a corner at one end of the room, not in a good place for watching it. read more

I stay in my fair share of hotels as I travel for work and this one is by far the worst thus far. There is a gross stain on the ceiling above the bed, the tub faucet drips continuously and is connected to the bedroom, the bed conch lights flicker for a minute before fully turning on, there is literal trash left out and random items found all around. I love Marriott, I would choose any Marriott hotel whenever I travel! But this place was a disappointment. The price didn't match the comfort and cleanliness I expected. The suite room they gave me needed a major upgrade. The bathroom could use some repair. The tub needs to be replaced. I thought it was just a stain but it wasn't. I mentioned it to the staff and she just said that they were aware of the problem. Hmmm?! They should decommission this room from their system until they have it fixed. It has a kitchen and my bed was ok. The staff are very nice. It's pretty run down and homeless people start trolling the parking lot after dark and don't keep their distance. The same parking lot you pay nightly for. The breakfast is pretty marginal except I do like their oatmeal topping options. The laundry machines are pretty gross, and there are two washers and dryers. Gym is ok not great. Elevator smells bad. Only Marriott in town and not a great representation of the brand. read more

Stayed here one night as I traveled for work. I am lifetime Titanium (have stayed over 1,700 nights with Marriott) and I often get free upgrades. This trip they gave me a two bedroom suite! Dingy, old, odd front desk staff but what really killed me is the WiFi BS in this hotel. I travel for work a ton and Im a Marriott Bonvoy member so I always try to stay at Marriot hotels. My work computer for whatever reason will not connect to the Wifi using my room number it will only do it with the access code (which is a choice in the sign in page). Never not once ever have I had a hotel refuse to give me a code. They were like "we dont have one". So I said call the manager...well that person was as clueless as the front desk staff. Some highs and some lows. I appreciate the firm mattress as I have to get my 8 hours and wake up not in pain. I appreciate the well insulated rooms because I had to stay there for 6 months and I needed my peace. Went to Salem for the weekend. Appreciate the early check in.... What we didn't appreciate: upon arrival we were advised the elevator is out (. & actively being worked on. Door closed and not a soul at the elevator all weekend) So for that they waived the $12.00 parking. Has it become normal to charge guest an additional fee for parking at your hotel ( that we paid $480 for). Clerk advised she would have some help for us carrying our things up the stairs. But not until the employee appreciation party was over. We reserved a king studio. Upon entering our room, we notice a few things: DUSTY sprinkler heads, mold over a weird little spot on the wall. Busted toilet seat ( you could see the busted washer and the seat swiveled.)Got our stuff upstairs and just at the top of the stairs the handle on our ice chest broke. Sending water, soda, snacks cascading down the stairs, I go to front desk and advise the clerk what happened and asked for someone to help us get the standing ice & water off the stairs. She advises after the party she will send someone. Approximately 45 minutes later no one has arrived so I clean up as best I can. Never had anyone show up to assist us. Maintenance man shows to fix toilet seat. We ask if pool is open. Told us he was filling it and just needed someone to ask. Fast forward after swimming: granddaughter goes to shower. Those showers look so nice. But your giant glass leaks water all over the floor, the water pressure is awful. Took me 20 minutes to rinse the shampoo out of my hair. Not to mention that the bottom of the shower becomes an ice skating rink the second water hits it. We had approximately a 1/3 of a roll of toilet paper and nothing else. The paper towels are the cheapest I have ever seen/ used. Not a single dish towel or wash rag in the kitchenette. Just mismatched dishes and I swear one of the pans was from 20 years ago with stuck on . Ewww. The hide a bed has to be 10+ years old. Our 35 lbs grandson couldn't even get comfortable. That mattress was maybe 3" thick and had some weird stains. The couch when sitting leaned in on one side and out on the other. Our table lamp had some type of short cause it flickered. So we didn't use it after seeing that. Barking dogs at 3:30 am that was fun. On to the breakfast bar: talk about a beautiful set up...... but not a single alternative for anyone with other needs. Bagels, toast and muffins & cereals but nothing gluten free / sugar free even available. Waffles and hard as a rock biscuits with gravy. Eggs that according to Cheyanne are " cooked in a pan." Every topping you can imagine available for waffles. Including whipped cream / strawberries. Upon asking I was told no alternatives are available. I will take my banana and toilet paper and go. Asked same clerk if pool was still open and advised it was. But once we got ready and downstairs there was a sign & we were told that the pool was being balanced. Weird since it was 10:30 am and the pool was closed from 11-5( maybe over night would be a good time to " balance the pool." I asked Cheyanne about her telling us the pool was open and was advised that 1000's of kids are in that pool. I asked if she was delusional because we had been the one people we had seen in the pool twice now. Was extremely disappointed with your hotel. I think maybe some of the higher ups ,making the decisions about these rooms should come and spend a couple nights in your own hotel to see exactly what it's like. Maybe send in a secret shopper. If you remember I wrote that we reserved a king studio, thought it interesting that the blankets on our bed stated queen size on the tag. And our 5'2" granddaughter laid across the bed and her ankles & feet hung off. Pretty sure your beds aren't the same size as beds on the outside. CONS: The convenience of an easy access to the I-5 can be a detriment as well, because this Residence Inn property is literally next to this I-5. The property is conveniently located next to highway 5 (& CostCo for gas). The staff was very nice & the Spa was enjoyable. The physical plant on the surface looks great. However, Being a Marriott Gold Member, I have a lot of experience with and expectation of Marriott Properties. I stayed in room 327. The freeway noise (cars going by) was noticeable enough to keep me awake, the bed sagged toward the middle, and the toilet would fill till almost overflowing and would slowly empty over several minutes (for no apparent reason). Now a year later, had some car trouble. Stayed in room 330 - all good till traffic noise woke me at 5:45am. Atleast breakfast at 6am. Suggest staying in a lower floor at other end of hotel. I'll begin this by saying I haven't stayed in a wide variety of hotels(I almost always go with the same companies), and I also don't like leaving bad reviews however, but we went on a vacation to Oregon and decided since it was a vacation we would spend a little more and go with a well known company like Marriott. Now as many have said before me I have no idea how this place has the name Marriott on the outside. While it's not dumpy, it is a pretty basic looking building. On the inside from the outdated carpets and wallpaper and yellow brass fixtures it's obviously never been updated since the day it was built. The first person that checked us in was polite enough but that sort of went downhill with the supposed "manager" by the sign on the wall Tim. We had an issue with the toilet backing up with normal use. And instead of sending someone to handle it. I was handed a plunger. The rooms carpets were stained and torn, the furniture was old and ratty and looked like it was picked up at a thrift store. The bed was so worn out that my back hurt every single morning I woke up. And it may sound like a first world problem but we spent the extra money because this hotel had a pool and spa tub. The pool looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months and the spa was "down for maintenance" by a sign but the employee there basically just said it was broken with no idea when or if it will be fixed. And it was wrapped off with caution tape. The whole facility was poorly run and in poor condition while expecting top dollar. And so I don't come off as just another loon. Pictures to follow. We have family in Oregon and if we ever decide to take a long trip here again. We will stay farther away and dodge Marriott in Salem just to have a decent stay. Will never return. read more

They did not honor the reservation. 11 hours before check in time, a notification--by email only-- they were somehow "overbooked". Some kind of miscommunication with their sales team apparently! And unfortunately, someone had to go. But not to fear, a replacement has already been found, at the nearby Doubletree! Omitting to mention that hotel is a construction site with unfinished rooms, scraped furniture, no internet of any kind, a hole in the bathroom ceiling, and (every hour there's something new) noisy footsteps from the room above! Do not stay at this hotel! BEWARE they don't care and will sell your room out from under you to make a buck! Our flight was delayed and we didn't check into midnight only to find out that the hotel DOWNGRADED our room to one bed + couch from a 2 BDRM suite! It's so hard to believe that a MARRIOTT property would do something so low class! My son is in town for 2 days of a tryout out for a spot on the college roster and is forced to stay in less than ideal conditions for an athlete! He will never have this opportunity again to be in front of the coaches again. Thank you to the MARRIOTT in SALEM - you may have ruined his one and only shot to play at this school! If you need a place that takes pets, this may be one of the only spots for you. I gave this an extra star for that reason only. It might get another 1/2 star for being a newer property and the rooms are not the worst I have seen. In regards to be a "suite" hotel, the rooms are rather small and really does not provide that "suite" experience or room to move. Luckily Oregon has a lot to see on the weekends, so off we went for every moment we could vacate the premises. So...that was the good. The bad, and is all correctible with minimal effort from the hotel. Smell...the 1st floor hallway going to the front lobby smelled of animal piss daily...sometimes it would drift up the stairway. Cleanliness...hallway rugs were disgusting. Side door exit was constantly littered with cigarette butts and it would appear they were picked up about once every other week. Parking lot always had some type of trash in it that would stay for several days. Lawns...guest with pets chose not to curb their pets and it was a minefield of poop. Now I know it's the irresponsible guests that cause these issues...and there were plenty...but it's the hotel's responsibility to recognize and take action; clean more, put a smoking area with butt disposal out there. The GM needs to get out of his office and check on these items. Breakfast: ran out of coffee ALL THE TIME...I would say 33% of the time I had to request more coffee be brought out. Yes, they were understaffed, but not my problem. And the bagged breakfast...not good. TV in rooms; nice selection of channels and streaming services, but they constantly would switch back to the hotel home channel without warning...very irritating when watching final Jeopardy or the end of any show. Not going back. Cannot recommend. You have been given far warning. read more

The housekeeping staff does not clean the pullout couch, nor behind the beds. We found a sock in the pull out bed, popcorn, and a large amount of crumbs. while looking for dropped ear buds, we found half a pancake under the bed. The shower floor was stained (?) with a mysterious substance that was orange-ish. The window screens were torn in both bedrooms, and there were large stains on the floor. The refrigerator looked as if someone had shot it with a BB gun, there were so many dents. The halls smell of cooking foods and the neighbors can be heard talking. In the bathroom, the paint was peeling off the door. The front door had paint splotches where they attempted to touch it up. All of these issues caused me to question what other items had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. I am a Marriott member and would not recommend this location to anyone. Marriott needs to pay more attention to their properties. read more

I absolutely cannot believe that the going rate for a room here is $350, $89 would be more like it. As a Marriott Gold Elite member I spend a fair amount of time and money at Marriott hotels but this is hands down the worst I've been in. While the front desk folks were incredibly nice I can't sing the praises of anything else. The hotel smells old, the furniture looks like it was picked up free from Craigslist, the kitchen cabinets were haphazardly assembled, the tub was so shallow I don't think I could soak my feet in it, and worst of all the hot tub was broken. Usually this type of thing would be posted on the Marriott bonvoy page allowing me to choose a different hotel. We nearly chose to stay at a Marriott property in Beaverton or Corvallis but opted to pay out and come here instead (I booked with points but it cost 8500 extra points a night) to spend less time commuting to the McMinnville area each day. I wish we had opted to stay elsewhere. TLDR: don't trust the photos the hotel is dated and smells like your grandmas closet. PS I hate giving bad reviews. read more

The front desk person, Tim checked us in both times, and both times he seemed to be put out by having to check us in. Oh, there wasn't a lamp on either side of the bed I will say that the breakfast and the breakfast staff are nice, the reason for the 1 stars. I agree with other reviews about the "grandma's house" feel of the hotel. It permeates the place, from the carpeting to the light fixtures to the asbestos-locked low popcorn ceilings. Even the carpeting in the room is reminiscent of a time back in the 60's. When I walked up to check in the guy saw me coming but went into the back anyway and wasted 5 minutes of my time when I needed to get checked in quickly. Window was also letting a lot of noise in, was not triple pane or anything and didn't seem to be sealed. It didn't sound like highway noise, it sounded like a distant helicopter but it was constant. Not loud enough to keep me from sleeping, but annoying. Best Western in Woodburn is right next to the hotel too and had a fraction of the noise going on - for 1/3rd the price per night, mind you. Bed felt like an air mattress. Springs way too bouncy and soft. Clean, but wow. Pillows were okay, but I've certainly had better. Sound of running water can be heard through the walls - so when they're taking showers or whatever you will hear it. Also, clomping around upstairs (in other words, do NOT get a downstairs unit if you can swing it. This Residence seems to stay full though, so...) Central heating/AC system was LOUD in the bedroom. This was surprising - I've stayed in many a Residence and I've never heard it be this loud, even with detached units where it was right outside the window. In other words if you plan to run the heater overnight to keep the temp down, expect quite a bit of sound to come at you. Room was extremely dusty. Corners, the popcorn ceiling, everywhere is visible dust. To the point you can tell there hasn't been a change to the carpet in at least a decade. Wireless connected but you couldn't do anything with it, it took at least 3 minutes for it to reply with the sign in page alone. I just used my phone hotspot because it wasn't worth the headaches. They need different housekeepers Sonia is very rude and has it out for younger females that work there. Hotel staff should be nice at all times even to workers I don't like seeing workers get treated bad or guests to be treated bad just because they feel intimidated by them. Maintenance worker Ruben every time someone complains about something about the room they take days to get it done which everything should be done because it is a hotel and it's hospitality the hotel guests should come before if you want to do it or not I get that it takes time to order things but if you want your business running you need things done when it needs to be done. The rooms half of the time don't seem clean which hotels should be a clean place for people to stay , some rooms stink , some rooms need to get a exterminator for bed bugs and fleas because a lot of dogs stay there I think it could be taken care better here. The managers are really sweet and nice they just need to hire dedicated people not people that are lazy and blame things on others when things aren't going the right way. read more

Been staying here for 2-3 weeks a month since April. Hotel property is clean, and generally the guests are quiet. Some folks complain about highway noise on one side of the building -- not very heavily traveled in comparison to a lot of larger cities. It's never bothered me at all. Tim is awesome. Would give the place 5 stars from his help over the last few months. Always helpful and friendly, I should probably fly a lobster from Boston one of these trips as thanks. Hotel internet is notoriously bad. As a biz traveler, I'm used to it. The service here is terrible. As platinum elite, I get the 'enhanced internet service' as part of the perks, can't imagine what the basic service is like. The gym is super tiny, about the norm, basically a glorified closet. The equipment (two treadmills and an elliptical) are in good shape with functioning TVs. Very limited free weight selection, and all but a single bench. Kitchenettes are definitely needing some work. I would call the cooking surface more of a lukewarm plate -- you can make it work, but certainly room for improvement. Some rooms have a full stove, which is nice, with standard electric burners that work pretty well. Pretty average overall, with great service at the front desk. read more

We have stayed here many times in the past with family. This past weekend was just my hubby and I. Check-in was easy and Sean was friendly, helpful and informative. He offered us a free bottle of water and a snack. Our room was spacious, comfortable, quiet and very clean. Breakfast selection was good. We used the fitness room and had trouble getting the cooling system to work. It was brought to their attention in an email review. Hope it was looked at and fixed. My boyfriend and I stayed here in our recent trip to Salem! The check in was really easy and it was so nice to be greeted by such a friendly staff member. I don't remember his name but he was a Marine from San Diego! Cool Guy! There was always at least 2 people up at the front desk at all times so no waiting at all if you needed something. They also have like a "gift shop" for toiletries and snacks! Thank you for the Ramen! The room was clean and quiet, the bed was super comfortable and they had all the makings of... well.. a residence? Microwave, fridge really great for an extended stay! Breakfast is great too! They keep the eating area CLEAN which I was super impressed by because sometimes you don't get so lucky! Highly recommended for the price. I'll be staying there the next time I go there. read more

So, I have no idea what this hotel cost (company paid for it). But I'm pretty sure it was totally worth every penny. The room was nicer than an apartment I lived in with my now wife. There was a small kitchen with a full-sized fridge and a little breakfast table. The living room area had a couch and a chair, and the TV could be made visible to that area. The bed was a queen-sized (I think) bed, and also could be made to be visible to the TV. The bathroom was split - tub/shower and toilet in one room, with the sink across from the closet in another area. Really nice set up. Everything was clean and functional, too. I had no reservations about anything at the hotel, and settled in easily. Not only that, but there were enough plug-ins for my obsessive electronics needs, which I really appreciated. In addition to all that, they have a breakfast in the mornings, as well as social events a few nights each week. Awesome. The folks at the front desk were really friendly as well. Very welcoming and great at their jobs. A welcome change from so many other hotels. If I'm ever in Salem again, I would VERY happily stay at this hotel again. read more

There is not much around there besides other hotels and Costco but we had a tournament and didn't really need much while there. This is my second time staying here and that should tell you all you should know. If a place is great,you naturally wanna come back! Staff, Vince at the front desk was so helpful with check in and letting know which restaurant to hit up for a great lunch (Gilgamesch was great!) Hotel is close the I-5 which was a plus. it's a little tucked back off the road so it's almost cozzy you could say. Everytime I go to Salem, I will stay only at this hotel! read more
