The décor is warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed. And yes...those are real trees. That actually matters to me. I love restaurants with a beautiful aesthetic because it makes the whole experience feel special. Good food is wonderful, but good food in a beautiful space? That's even better. The menu is perfect if you're dining with friends because there are so many things to share. We ordered the traditional sampler, and it was such a fun way to try several Guatemalan dishes. Every plate that came out looked fresh, colorful, and made with care. The cheese pupusa was delicious, and the cotija cheese was the perfect finishing touch. Then there were the plantains. I actually stopped our server to ask, "Do y'all make the plantains from scratch?" They do. And it shows. They were fresh, perfectly cooked, and so good that I kept reaching for another one. Honestly, they may have been my favorite thing on the table. The steak was cooked exactly medium, had a great char, and was full of flavor. Portions were generous across the board, which is always a win because leftovers are basically tomorrow's gift to yourself. The spinach artichoke dip surprised me. If you're someone who genuinely loves spinach, you'll probably be very happy because spinach definitely got top billing in that relationship. It tasted incredibly fresh, and it made me realize I apparently prefer my artichokes to be just a little more competitive. The service was warm and welcoming all evening. I ordered a red sangria that never quite found its way to the table, but honestly, by the end of the meal I was so full that my stomach had already voted "maybe next time." One of my favorite parts of the evening was learning more about San Martín's history. Knowing it began in Guatemala and is especially known for its bakery and breakfast immediately put breakfast on my "I need to come back for this" list. By the end of the meal, we were full, happy, and already talking about what we'd order next time. That's usually the sign of a restaurant I'll happily recommend. Beautiful atmosphere. Fresh food. Generous portions. Outstanding plantains. I'd give San Martín a solid 9 out of 10, and I'm already looking forward to coming back.

It's it so hard to ignore the bakery section when it is so stunning and filled with beautiful baked goods! I got a oreo croissant and tortuga concha! I did not eat them (My bf did) but they looked so great! I did try my friends banana custard filled bread and that was great! I would go back for it! That is the only issue I have. Otherwise, keep up the good work.

Great food and coffee. Went for there first time today and had the croque monsier and an almond milk latte. Both awesome. Kind of a long line for Saturday at 11 am. Got to the counter and ordered. Got change to feed the meter and cashier volunteered fact that they could validate up to 1.5 hrs in Davis bldg garage. Then he said, here is a buck fifty in quarters to cover u for an hour on us. Fed the meter and by the time I got to our table girl was bringing out my friends food and my latte. She had the breakfast sandwich which was made w a chicken sausage which I could eat by itself, yum. Soon after my sandwich arrived and it was delish, poached egg could b a little more wet, but that's a personal preference. Getting more tea for the road and noticed the fine looking pastries, one divine looking key lime tart. Definitely going back, so much better than Ascension a block away. read more

I ordered the breakfast sandwich on wheat bread since I can't eat white flour. I liked the spiciness of the mayo on the sandwich. While I liked the flavor, I felt it lacked a lot. It had chicken sausage, mayo and arugula. I felt something was amiss. I ordered their grain bowl to go. It lacked a lot of flavoring - it was very bland. So much so, I had added a different dressing. It was okay, but for the amount they charged, I felt it could have been more flavorful, but it wasn't and had very few vegetables. I had also ordered a latte with sugar free vanilla syrup - they added so much syrup, that the taste was off putting - I couldn't tell if the coffee itself was good. I won't be returning. read more

Omg. The tarts are so good. I went for lunch today and got a meatball sandwich, then got the white chocolate key lime tart and the s'mores tart. The sandwhich was really good. Bread was amazing. Meatball was fresh. I may have preferred a little more cheese, but all in all, really good. The desserts though were ridiculous. They are a bit overpriced, but so amazing. The key lime one was full of fruit and had amazing flavor and was beautiful. The s'mores was was also pretty, but mainly just really good. Omg, I ordered two breakfast burritos The last time I had one of them was in May, and it still tastes the same. Very juicy, and so damn goooooddd. I love everything they put in that burrito. I think they make their own wraps from scratch. It doesn't taste like the ones from the stores. I had to stop eating it because the juice of the burrito was falling on my pants. I am OBSESSED with Commissary! This place is incredible. Their coffee is delicious, their pastries are delectable, the lunch options are difficult to pick from (because they are all so yummy) and you can get bagels from them, steaks, and rotisserie chickens.
