This is an amazing store for a small Installation. There is a variety of organic and vegan options. There is a deli where fresh sandwiches can be made as you wait. Great selection of veggies, meat and dairy products. My favorite section is the sushi bar. There are so many varieties to choose from, to include poki. There is a bakery with lots of fresh goodies. I've been to my fair share of commissaries and though I love that this one has a wider variety of produce, I am not fond of the layout. The store itself feels crammed and hard to shop in. The toiletries and health food items are off to one corner in a serpentine like manner that is hard to navigate when you have many people around. There always seems to be a traffic jam of shopping carts and there's not much room to move around in. This also applies to the dairy area. The deli is one place I try to avoid because it is also crowded and packed with people so not only is it hard to find what you are looking for but it's hard to just plain get in there. Their frozen food/frozen veggies aisle on the other hand is much easier to shop around in and probably the area with the most space to maneuver your cart. What stands out the most to me is the variety of the produce here. Everything I've bought here so far is pretty fresh and they have so many more items than other commissaries I have been to. The produce is a bit overpriced compared to other groceries stores. They even have some pretty house plants and orchids! The staff is ok but every now and then you find some awesome friendly ones so that's a plus. I would've loved to rate this 5 stars but it's just a hassle getting through the aisles it's also disheartening when you overhear one staff tell another to just remove the items and restock them once the prices go back up. This commissary is decent considering Ft. H is relatively small. I agree that the produce isn't always the best, but we are in the desert. The parking lot is very poorly designed. The deli is pretty good, and they make fresh subs. Meat dept usually has a nice selection, but the steaks are usually pretty thin. You can get some meat here though that you can't even find at Fry's, like bulgogi, haggis, and liver. Please note that it's closed on Mondays. read more

It's a typical commissary for any military base. It is small compared to the one at other military bases. They recently moved everything and have made it harder to find items. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes when you check out it's a in and out process other times it takes forever. read more

I love shopping at the commissary they have a whole bunch of different foods and drinks from different countries. Meat department is great vegetable or fresh deli and bakery are awesome the employees and staff are friendly. It's a great place to work and the people are nice. Only active duty military and retired military can shop there. Also the Baggers works for tips only. That's how they make their living. read more

If you shop here, CHECK YOUR RECEIPT IMMEDIATELY after purchase. Management here gives poor training to the employees, so we almost lost $50 because of a new cashier's mistake. We bought beef ribs for what should've been $5.32 but was "accidentally" charged $53.27. We live off post and had to waste our time going all the way back to be met with an apathetic customer service employee. We also spoke to the store director who was equally apathetic and asked us what we think should be done. Wait, isn't she being paid for that? Regardless, maybe this commissary should consider having a new leadership who actually wouldn't let huge mistakes like this happen. Or at least give a heads up to customers that an employee is new (with a sign). Why should we be punished for the lack of employee training here? Some people may not have checked their receipt or just thrown them away, which means customers could be losing 100s of dollars. I just felt there was no sympathy and no effort to take any sort of action to improve after this event. How hard is it to input a price, then checking to confirm you typed correctly? read more

This is a great commissary! It's obvious this is an old building, but they have managed to make it work and have the same layout as other commissaries so items are easy to find. The workers are fabulous--helpful and nice--and seem to enjoy their jobs. Having shopped in commissaries all over the country, I feel very comfortable here. It's like shopping in a small town market except with a MUCH better selection. The deli section is one of my favorites. Better than our last commissary by far. But like all commissaries, there are days and times to avoid. This is a large installation with troops coming and going quite regularly. It also services many retirees! I tend to shop early just after opening and plan my pantry as they are closed Mondays. Baggers are all wonderful and work for tips. read more

I am new to military life and I had low expectations of the commissary when I first got here. One of the reasons being that everybody said it was very very small. Horrible produce department! Very common to get produce that looks good on the outside but is spoiled on the inside. Very rare to see ripe bananas, usually green. Forget getting a ripe avocado, every time I've looked, they're rock hard. Apples look like apples but are tasteless. They used to carry organic carrots, I bought some of those and when I got home they weren't even stiff! I buy all my produce downtown nowadays. Lots of other products have been dropped, they seem to like products that don't sell well as this cuts down on the need for frequent re-stocking. Huge assortment of high fat potato chips/sugar drinks. All the cashiers are very friendly however. read more

The measure of a grocery store is based in its produce. That's why there are two stars. The meat department isn't that great either. Everything just seems really half-assed. The Sushi stand is a nice touch, and what they do have is fairly priced. The parking here, just like the PX, is horrible. I really like this commissary. The produce section can be hit or miss depending on when you go. I've gotten rotten apples, spolied strawberries, and rancid lemons before. So be careful. I also check the dates on items, especially the bread. It is very easy to purchase something that is spoiled or about to spoil. I also think more effort could be put into restocking during the day. The service is really great, and it has more in stock compared to bigger posts. I like the small set-up but the organization and placement needs some work. They have a sushi bar that makes whatever you want fresh and the meat selection is very large. The produce is the same as any other store but it is not as pricy. They are closed on Monday. The parking lot is quite a ways from the front door even if you get a good spot, a lot of parking is reserved for officers. It drives me crazy, I have 4 small children and the higher ranking officers get reserved spots. Last time I went the artichokes were moldy. I found all the Ortega whole wheat tortillas were outdated by as much as a year. After I got home and unloaded my groceries I discovered both my containers of coffee creamer were 3 days past the "use by" date. The prices are generally a little cheaper, but you need to be careful, a lot of stuff is old. Update: The lower prices on meat and pantry items is enough to keep me coming back. The produce is not great, but it's cheaper. This store is close to home for me and with a large family to feed the savings and convenience outweighs the drawbacks. read more

I do like this commissary and I never had any issues with it. They carry most of the things I need and they have awesome prices. Their rewards card is great! I usually shop on Tuesday's and sometimes Sunday's. Those days are not that busy and the staff is usually very polite. read more

We tend to save 10-20% off our food bills when we shop at the commissary instead of in town. The produce isn't always the greatest, nor are the cuts of meat available (especially over the weekend), however they have a decent selection and a good variety of goods from overseas that are not available in most other grocery stores. I've only been here for a little bit but today me and some others went to get some cleaning supplies and stuff to make breakfast and we went through the self checkout line since we were paying separately. We get there and we're greeted with very rude service along with nasty looks. Other than feeling the constant presence of stares by the workers , we were constantly questioned and told what we did wrong by coming to the line. Then another women who seemed to maybe be a manger came up and tried to say under her breath "wow, are you serious" . We each had under the 15 item limit. Bottom line up front: This place needs to train its employees and management better. I purchased beef ribs for $5.32 and instead get charged $53.27. When I brought it up with the management to include the director, they kept making excuses about how she's only been working for 2 weeks and that we're all human. At this point I almost started singing "Human" by the Killers to tune out their excuses. As someone who also used to be a cashier, 2 weeks is more than enough time to learn to do your job right. The director even had the nerve to say I should've caught the mistake when it was loading on the screen. I wish I could've but I was too busy checking to see if Ela, the apathetic cashier, had broken any of my glass items that she roughly scanned and tossed. The director even asks me for a potential solution to which I say mistakes should come out of the offender's paycheck, to which she disagrees. No sense in repeating what has already been said, so will include a few things that might be of help. The commissary is closed on Mondays (for stocking and since most federal holidays land on a Monday). Case lot sales usually happen once a month which will save you quite a bit on things you already buy i.e. we bought a case of soup which came out to 21 cents a can for what normally on the shelf cost 88 cents. most new shipments come in on Tuesdays, yeah you read that right-stocking happens on Monday but stock comes in on Tuesday, must be nice to have a time machine to help stock shelves. Best time of the week to shop is the Wednesday right after an arrival of new stock but the odd week that is not payday, as most military families shop on the first and mid month, so go shop on the "odd" weeks and you will have the store all to yourself. read more

The commissary has under gone a huge appearance change. I really enjoy going there now, produce selection is better, the isles are more open and products are much easier to find and there now seems to be a flow. I love the new refrigerators and freezers, better lighting and organization. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, even though they frown just a little to much (this is my only negative). read more
