This was my main draw to selecting this property. The air conditioner is only "allowed to" go down to 68 degrees. Sick of this save the planet aka save their money cooling restrictions. Is it really worth saving 50 cents a night to not allow your guests to sleep cool? The thick bedding / sheets are not breathable and I had a hard time sleeping. Only after I asked to check out early did they miraculously "get approval" to remotely reduce the room temperature by 2 degrees. What a joke. $350/night for a Holiday Inn level staffing and guest experience. The only good thing about this place is the location. Other than that I'll save my money and stay somewhere else where I'm valued.

I am writing to formally express my frustration with the ongoing issues I have encountered since…read moremoving into this building. The lack of communication between staff, combined with unfulfilled promises, has made operating my business here exceedingly difficult. Despite multiple attempts to reach out for assistance, I have been met with indifference, and on several occasions, I've felt that my concerns were treated as a nuisance. It seems that the priority is staff enjoyment of their holidays, rather than addressing the critical issues affecting tenants like myself. This disregard for the needs of business owners is disheartening and jeopardizes my business's reputation. I have been in business for 14 years and maintain a 5-star rating. However, the ongoing problems with building access are putting that reputation at risk through no fault of my own. It is incredibly frustrating to feel that my concerns as a business owner are not being taken seriously. Before signing my lease, I made it clear that I work nights, weekends, and holidays. Despite this, when I arrived at the building on January 1, 2025, prepared to serve my clients, I found that my key card still does not grant me access to my suite. This issue has been ongoing for two weeks, and despite repeated attempts to resolve it, I still cannot access the building or serve my clients. What is particularly alarming is the complete lack of response from staff. I have reached out via text, email, and phone with no reply. I have not been provided with a clear after-hours procedure to address emergencies like this, leaving me with no recourse in urgent situations. The building's expansive app is also malfunctioning. I understand that the company is closed today, but someone should have been designated to be on-call for emergencies. If I am unable to service my clients today, they will not be able to work tomorrow due to the OSHA-compliant certifications I provide. OSHA standards do not allow them to work without these certifications. These certifications are critical for their careers, and failing to deliver them today could have serious consequences for their livelihoods. While I have received several apologies from staff, apologies alone are insufficient without tangible action. A sincere apology is only demonstrated through a swift resolution of the issue at hand. Until the problem is fixed, further apologies feel disingenuous and unhelpful. I have been patient, but my patience has now run out. Each time I receive assistance, it is because I have had to take time out of my busy day, with year-end deadlines, to contact Expansive. I do not understand what they expect me to do in this situation. If the door on this level is not functioning, simply unlocking it with a key would be a reasonable suggestion. Why is there a need to prop the door open with a chair? Unlocking it would allow tenants to access the building until the issue is resolved. I am sure some may be upset about my writing this review, but this is only because I have consistently asked for help without receiving adequate assistance. I typically handle such matters maturely and do not write reviews. I am requesting immediate action to resolve the issue with my key card. I would also appreciate direct contact from the owner of Expansive to address these concerns, as it seems no one else cares. Please be advised that I will update my Google review once this issue is resolved. Until then, I would advise potential tenants to reconsider renting from Expansive--especially those who require access to the building during non-traditional hours. I am not the only tenant experiencing this issue; another tenant I spoke with yesterday, who moved in just a week ago, is facing the same access problems. This issue is clearly systemic, and I believe it requires action from the third-party company responsible for maintaining the building's security system. Attached is a photo of the communication from Dec 31, 2024, showing staff was informed about the key card issue. Instead of addressing the problem, they left to enjoy their New Year's Eve holiday. This is a historic hotel, one of the oldest in Dallas, and over 100 years old. What I didn't like were the in-room bathrooms that looked outdated. No bathtub is a bummer for me at a high-end hotel. The rooms aren't particularly large, either. For $400-500 bucks a night, you'd hope for a little more luxury but this is an old building. The staff here was incredibly polite and friendly. It is truly beautiful, and this is why I give it 5-stars. I know of the history of famous guests, and talk of being haunted. Cool.

My favorite random detail is that the hotel was outfitted with cutting edge electrical systems (of the time) from Westinghouse during its early years. Made in St. Louis so a home connection. That's where the 1904 World's Fair helped make Westinghouse a household name through its massive electric exhibits and features. So somehow standing in a glamorous Dallas hotel lobby turned into a weirdly specific St. Louis history field trip. The renovation is gorgeous and the team clearly has something special here.

The hotel is truly a 5-star experience, the decor and architecture was impressive. This build was originally the First National Bank Tower in 1965. Since then it has been reborn as the Thompson Dallas with several restaurants, bars and even a chick-fil-a in the build (can't access it directly in the hotel but if you exit it's right next door). I was greeted my reception warmly and was able to check-in early due to my AMEX perks. They gave me a run down of the amenities and perks I received. The entry is a large corridor that has a decorated exquisitely and festive for the Christmas season. The elevators were wide and hallways were quite spacious. The room was also nicely decorated with our own bookcase, lounge area, elongated, shower, and bathroom with great view of the city. We ate a mini restaurants at the hotel, including monarch and Little Daisy. The Little Daisy was amazing and was a part of my AMEX perk which gave me daily breakfasts of $65. By the end of the trip, the waitresses and bartenders would greet us by name and just felt like a neighborhood French Café. If you're staying in the downtown Dallas area I highly recommend staying here. The staffstaff are amazing and very accommodating, tons of restaurants and bars inside and close by. In room service with different menu options and unique treats in room (especially not at absorbent cost or price). It's really centralized and a great way to be a part of the action of the city with the elevated feel and sophistication that comes with the five star location.

We did a staycation here for one night. Being Dallas residents, it's a real treat to get to stay downtown and see the area from a different perspective. I don't mean to sound nit-picky, but in our room quite a few things were off. First, we were lacking a wastebasket. There was one in the restroom w/c, but there really should've been one in the actual room. Also, in our room, the curtains were stationary. We could not draw them to see the view of the pool below. Another headache was the led lamp on the nightstand kept flickering throughout our stay. Another issue we had was the shower head was missing some of the little rubber stoppers on the shower head, so there were some streams of water spurting in weird directions. Overall, the grand lobby sets your expectations high, but when you get to the room, there was a lack of maintenance in keeping the suite at its best.
